STUPID LOVE really pulled at my heartstrings. It’s a friends to lovers story with deep and long hidden feelings of love, not just suddenly looking at your friend and realizing they are kind of hot.
But of course it couldn’t be that easy for Lauren and Theo. The obstacles they put in their own way could end up ruining their love and their friendship and neither wanted to take that risk.
You see, Theo was a divorce lawyer and the child of divorced parents. Both made him jaded about love. Lauren was a singer/songwriter who regularly put her heart out there through her songs. The lyrics written in the book would make great songs and one even made me cry, it was that good.
Lauren and Theo are sweet and playful in public but they surprised one another with the force of their passion. Our Theo is a dirty talker, with a touch of jealousy and possessiveness - my favorite kind of hero.
I received an advance copy of this book. This is a voluntary review.
Although the pace is a little slow, I enjoyed Lauren and Theo. But she was too passive. Just waiting for him to figure out how he felt. I wanted more backbone from her.
It’s a predictable story with few surprises. I was more interested in other characters.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for my honest review.
I absolutely love friends to lovers romances and this one was beautifully done. You go inside the friendship of Theo and Lauren, best friends for 10 years who are essentially in a relationship under the guise of friendship.
I loved their chemistry and the way they were so natural with each other. Theo has faced so many difficulties regarding relationships from his parents to him being a divorce lawyer and I really liked how it was emphasized that he worked as a lawyer to help kids like himself who face difficulties when their parents split. Lauren is a kind and gentle soul who really knows and understands Theo sometimes better than he knows himself and I loved seeing how they were so easily able to take it to the next level.
I really hope we get to see how their relationship progresses in future books!
Stupid Love is the first book in The Prescotts series by Tara Wyatt. The sexiest man Lauren MacKinnon knows also happens to be her best friend. He’s six-foot-four of masculine perfection. He’s smart, and funny, and has one of the biggest hearts around. And she has no idea that he’s completely in love with her. Theo Prescott, however, is in denial. Or at least, he’s trying to be. See, he’s not exactly boyfriend material. After growing up in a volatile household and now as a successful divorce lawyer, not to mention his utterly disastrous dating track record, he’s come to accept the fact that he sucks at love, and he’s not willing to risk his friendship with Lauren. Who is gorgeous and awesome and probably perfect for him. But he’s terrified of breaking her heart. No matter his feelings, she’s his best friend, and that’s where she needs to stay. Because there are rules that come with having a best friend. Rules like no kissing, no thinking about each other naked, no having sex. And no matter what, no falling in love. But one by one, Theo and Lauren are going to break the rules.
Stupid Love is a great introduction to the Prescott brothers and cast of interesting secondary characters. I tend to enjoy the friends or enemies to lovers tropes, and this book fit the bill nicely. Lauren and Theo are best friends with unresolved, secret feelings for each other that everyone around them seems quite aware of. I also had a spark of joy for the very real interaction that Lauren had while working in a library- but a job like that is increasingly hard to find these days, and I was a little jealous of her full time, professional library gig that many, many people in the field would jump at the chance for. I also found her a bit too perfect, so understanding and making excuses for other people's issues. I was very happy when she stood up for herself- even if it waited until the big crisis of the book. Honestly I wanted to know more about some of the secondary characters than I did Theo and Lauren since their happy ending was pretty much guaranteed and with very few surprises. However, while the crisis was expected and I was expecting it for half the book, I did enjoy the ride and thought the journey was well written.
Stupid Love is an engaging romance that I enjoyed reading.
Stupid Love was a refreshing friends to lovers story. Lauren and Theo were so cute together and I loved watching them slowly realize their feelings for each other. This story is well-written to give all the feels from their relationship.
This is my first Tara Wyatt book and I'm sure it will not be the last. This book is steamy, adorable, and fun to read. I highly recommend it and cannot wait to read more by Tara soon!
Thank you to Netgally and the author for a chance to read this book for an honest review. Theo and Lauren have been best friends ever since Lauren dated Theo's roommate in college. Theo and Lauren have gotten along very well for the last 10 years as friends....see Theo is relationship shy due to the fact that his parents had a horrible marriage and he is a divorce attorney. So these two decide to set each other up, and its kind of comical how they sabotage each other. This book was great, I loved the characters and how the reader was rooting for them, I can't wait for more books with Theo's brothers. Great read! Highly recommend. Make sure to go on the authors site and sign up for the bonus epilogue.
The sexiest man Lauren MacKinnon knows also happens to be her best friend, and she has no idea that he’s completely in love with her.
Theo Prescott, knows he wants Lauren, but he's in denial about it all. Or at least, he’s trying to be. He grew up in a manipulative household and spent most of his life trying to get away from his past. He's a divorce lawyer so he can help other kids like him and his siblings whose parents to use them as pawns in divorce proceedings.
I enjoyed Lauren and Theo's romance as they try to move from friends to more, but the plot moved all over the place and I never felt like I got to know either of them super well.
This was a perfect romantic romp, and Tara does a great job with the relationship parts of Theo and Lauren's relationship, and they definitely have all the heat.
This was my first book by this author. Overall I liked the writing style, the pace of the story was good, the characters were well developed, I liked the 2 POVs. I enjoyed the premise and the fact that Theo and Lauren were best friends for so long. The supporting characters were fun, and added some good direction in the story, especially Lucien.
There was a lot of introspection but I think that Theo could have come to his realization a bit sooner.
There was a bit too much repetition at times ( I counted 5 references to his sister having been married before)
Theo Prescott and Lauren MacKinnon have been friends for a decade. They actually have feelings for each other, but Theo is in denial. He doesn't believe in love and thinks that he's incapable of being in love. Because of the nasty divorce of his parents and his job as a divorce lawyer, he only see the worst side of love.
And when they turned into 'friends-with-benefits' relationship,
Theo is too scared to risk his friendship with Lauren if he told her his feelings.
What will happen to their friendship?
This is the first time I read a book by this author.
Friends-to-lovers stories are always my favorite kind.
I love the friendship between Theo and Lauren.
The story is both entertaining and frustrating at the same time.
Theo's insecurities are pretty depressing to read. But I like how brave Lauren is to tell him how she feels.
I like the character's development, I like that both the Hero and heroine are very hard-working and supporting each other for their dreams.
I like their circle of friends and not to mention all the gorgeous Prescott brothers, and of course all those super hot sex scenes.
BUT there are some parts that I think happened too 'sudden' and 'unrealistic' that makes me can't rate this 5 stars.
Sorry, Spoiler alert:
When they're talking about the audition Lauren is going to take, then all of sudden one of their friends suggested Lauren and Theo to set up each other with other people. I was like... what??
The conversation that time has no correlation whatsoever with them dating other people in the first place.
And there's this one scene that I think is soooo unrealistic. Right after Theo and Lauren had a hot, intimate sex for the first time, the next day suddenly Theo needs an appendix surgery..... 🙄
And the fact that it's written in third person POV is a little minus point from me. I don't really like third person, in my opinion, it would be much more interesting if it's written in first person, dual POV.
Other than that I really enjoyed reading this book.
Will definitely read the next one.
Actually I'm so curious about Lucian. Can't wait for his story.
Thank you so much to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review written above.
Stupid Love by new to me author Tara Wyatt, is one of the steamiest books I have ever read. It is a best friends to lovers romance between two wonderfully conceived characters. This is the first book from The Prescotts series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone.
Lauren MacKinnon and Theo Prescott met during college and became the best of friends shortly thereafter. They both treasure their friendship greatly, and as a result, keep their respective romantic feelings to themselves. Lauren is a talented musician, on the cusp of making it big on the music scene. Theo is a divorce attorney with scruples, and always gets his clients what they rightfully deserve. Due to his experiences on the job and disastrous upbringing, he believes he is incapable of loving.
I liked getting to know both Lauren and Theo. Their love affair was replete with heat and emotional baggage. I am looking forward to next book in the series.
Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

I have one word for Theo: therapy. Seriously. He needs to talk to a professional. While I liked him and Lauren together I see no way how their relationship is going to work in the long run if he doesn't talk to someone about his issues. I find it somewhat unbelievable that he hasn't made a move for 11 years and ends the relationship because he thinks it will inevitably end, but after one talk with his brother everything is resolved. I don't feel like that's going to be enough to have a healthy relationship. The book itself is nice even though I think there could have been a bit more background information. Does Lauren have a family? There is absolutely no mention of it and why would Theo conveniently have taken the bar in California? Overall I would say it's a nice read if you don't want to delve too deep into anything.
Stupid Love is a friends to lovers romance. Theo and Lauren have known each other since college but have never acted on their attraction because the did not want to ever risk their friendship. Theo is so jaded by what happened to his parents (betrayals, divorce, etc) when he and his brothers were kids and as a divorce lawyer (sees broken relationships everyday but wants to help protect the kids) he has steered very clear of any relationship. Lauren has known and understood this and has kept her feeling under wraps. I love when romance books have both POV's as I think it just adds so much more to the story and I can't wait to read about each of the brothers, bring them on!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. All spelling and grammar errors in this review are totally my own.
Theo and Lauren's story was very good, it's a best friends for years, told from both POVs, a lawyer and a musician, they won't know what hit them until they realize that feelings have changed. I truly enjoyed the story, would definitely recommend it for a nice story where chemistry is off the charts and for anyone that enjoys a good friends to lovers romance story. The characters are quite interesting and opposites in a certain way. Great new start to The Prescotts series.
I like a good friends to lovers romance. I enjoyed this first book in the series and will definitely read more. The chemistry was hot! Thank you to netgalley for the ARC!
It's complicated. Stupid Love is one heartache short of a full deck and Wyatt holds all the cards. Theo and Lauren will make your heart beat faster, your emotions run deep and your yearning never end. From tiptoe to temptation there is a lot to love about The Prescotts.
This was the first book I've read by Tara Wyatt and it definitely won't be the last! I absolutely devoured this first book in the Prescott Series. Theo and Lauren's journey is a friends-to-lovers romantic comedy that was very well written. We're introduced to the entire Prescott family and I have a feeling that each and every one of them will have a very interesting story to tell! I loved Lauren's personality - she's kind and compassionate and a great friend to everyone. I really wanted her to have her HEA because she deserved it. Theo has been her best friend for the past ten years and has some serious emotional baggage he's trying to overcome so you can imagine what happens when the sparks finally fly between these two. Their chemistry is explosive! I loved everything about this read and I can't wait for Bastian's story next. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
*Happy sigh*
Stupid Love, by Tara Wyatt, is everything I love in a contemporary romance novel. It's my first novel by this author, but she's quickly made her way to the top of my Must Read list of authors.
This smart, emotional, funny story hooked me from the start, and I finished the story in one afternoon. Theo and Lauren, best friends for a decade, finally give in to their separate, secret feelings for one another and enter into a relationship. Because of Theo's bad experiences with romance (parents' dumpster fire of a marriage and the disasters he deals with daily as a divorce lawyer) and Lauren's aversion to any kind of conflict or confrontation, they leave the exact nature of their relationship undefined. Ultimately, it's not enough for Lauren. Will Theo be too stupid to hang on to her?
The beauty of this story is the strong and solid friendship the two have developed over the years. Too many romance novels go from "nice to meet you" to "love of my life" too quickly to be believable. Stupid Love is more about people who know each other perhaps too well, almost to a fault. It's impossible not to root for them.
Add in a mix of friends that you just want to adopt as your own (and yay, sequels!) and you have a book that you'll come back to again and again.
I was grateful to receive an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!
Theo and Lauren are best friends, but secretly in love with each other. They don't want to make a move and then potentially ruin their friendship forever. Theo is afraid he will ruin his relationships no matter who they're with so its safer for him to just stay friends, or single than break anyone else's heart. Which we all know that love has a tendency to sneak up on us when we least expect it, and that's what happens with these two characters.
I loved these two together, they are so much fun, and know how to have fun together. Lauren and Theo know pretty much everything about one another, yet they both take the easy way out when things get hard. I really liked Theo's brother Lucien, he was an interesting character that I would love to learn more about. This was a cute friends to love story. I recommend.
Friends to lovers is a favourite trope of mine and when it’s done well, it’s fabulous.
This was done really, really well with some delicious tension, fabulous chemistry, witty, sparky banter and likeable characters. The smut was hot and plentiful and he had a dirty mouth. The wider circle of friends and siblings were also interesting and quirky and I was just really into reading it which is what I long for in everything I pick up.
The only reason it’s not a five is that the conflict was resolved a little too easily and swiftly, the author had done such a great job of creating a complex conflict that built up nicely then, idk, it was all tied up in a page or two. It felt a bit rushed.
Complete story but part of a series with recurring characters. Recommended for fans of friends to lovers.
*Thanks to the publisher via NetGalley for the arc.*
What can I say? I'm a sucker for slow burn romances with a friends-turn-to-lovers theme. And although I hadn't read anything of Tara Wyatt, I decided to give it a go. And although I liked the main characters, Lauren and Theo, the burnrate wasn't very high on this story.
Theo comes from a highly disfunctional family. Although rich and famous, his father and mother went through a very nasty divorce years ago. And Theo and his siblings still have the scars from it. So he has a commitment phobia, which is enforced every day at his job as a divorce lawyer. His brothers, Max, Sebastian and Lucien are hilarious characters and I can't wait for their stories as well.
Lauren knows of Theo's ideas of relationships and therefore she has always kept her attraction and crush from him. But slowly they move from friends to "friends with orgasms". How long will Lauren be able to fool her own heart? And how long will it take for Theo to realize that they have left the friendzone a few orgasms ago?
At some point I wanted to smack both Theo and Lauren on the head for not addressing the very - and I mean very - big elephant in the room. But in all, a very funny, cute and hot story! Let's keep those Prescott's stories coming! Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
