This children’s story was hilarious, impactful, and thematically strong! Front of the line for teachers of young children.
1st Line: "The Big Race: THE FAST AND THE FEATHERIEST!"
Prose (Story): Everyone in the forest has been preparing for months for The Big Race - until suddenly, throughout the forest, posters for the events are showing up vandalized! Now on friendly terms with the wise wolf in underpants, the other animals enlist his aid in finding the culprit, the wolf's investigation turning up a tiny little chickadee with a very big attitude. Learning the reason behind the chip on the bird's shoulder, the wolf - aided by his trademark underpants, no less - finds a way to again bring peace to the forest in time for the big event, in book three of the popular series.
Don's (Review): This is my second Wolf in Underpants book (still have to read the debut, but The Wolf in Underpants Freezes His Buns Off was terrific), and while the same themes of making friends of supposed enemies and working together for the greater good still make for a great story here - and while I loved the chickadee and hope to see her in future volumes - I would rate this book just a tiny bit behind the previous one, as for me the previous story of the wolf being more at odds with his fellow forest creatures, his attitude more cantankerous, made for better conflict. It's a mild quip, though, as the characters and story here are as fresh as ever - and really, who couldn't love a wolf in striped underpants, under any circumstances? 4/5 stars
NOTE: I received a free ARC of this title from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
The author mixes story and lesson and comedy so well. There are laughs aplenty and lots of talk of underwear, but in the end, wolf is as helpful as ever.
'The Wolf in Underpants at Full Speed' by Wilfrid Lupano with illustrations by Mayana Itoiz and Paul Cauuet is the third graphic novel for young readers about wolf who parades around in underpants.
The forest is getting ready for a big race, but someone has been defacing the posters. Wolf goes to investigate and finds a small bird with an attitude. It turns out the bird is bitter because it was born without the ability to fly, so the race just makes it bitter. The wolf finds a way for the little bird to compete.
This is a fun series, and I loved the new character in this one. The humor is pretty funny and I think young readers would enjoy this outing.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Lerner Publishing Group and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
I had heard good things about The Wolf in Underpants series, so decided to see what we thought about them. Well, who doesn't love a story where the main character is a wolf strutting around in striped underwear. This is a beginner graphic novel with great illustrations. It was a lot of fun to read and just seeing what is in the images adds so much to the story. It is race day and all the posters have been vandalized. Wolf is called in to find the culprit after badger comes back a bit worse for wear. Wolf finds an angry little chickadee with revenge on its mind. Wolf is empathetic and listens to this little bird. They hatch a plan to allow the chickadee to enter the race, and maybe even win. This is a very cute story with a great message. Wolf listens, shows compassion and tries to come up with a solution. As the story progresses, chickadee realizes that friendship is more important than winning. Overall a fun story that my two older grandchildren thought was pretty funny. I am not sure if the younger one understood the message, but the older one did and we had a nice discussion after we read the story.
My daughter absolutely loved this book. It was our first book with the Wolf in Underpants, and she's learning to read. The dialogues were easy enough that she could read and understand them (our first language is French, she's learning English at school as a second language). We had fun reading this!
Many thanks to Lerner Publishing Group for the complimentary e-copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Wow! It has been a while since I last read a children’s book that dealt with sports! And I used to read lots of children’s books that dealt with sports when I was little! So, when I finally got back to downloading books from NetGalley again, I stumbled upon this interesting children’s book called “The Wolf in Underpants at Full Speed” by Wilfrid Lupano, along with illustrations by Mayana Itoiz and Paul Cauuet and man, did I have a fun time with this book!
Today is the day for the big race in the forest! But unfortunately, someone is ruining everybody’s fun as the posters have been vandalized! So, the other animals ask the Wolf in Underpants (yes, there is a Wolf running around in underpants in this story) to investigate this case and once the Wolf searches throughout the forest, he finds a little chickadee. It turns out that the chickadee is the one who is ruining the posters and the reason why he is lashing out is because he was born with one of his wings being shorter than the other and therefore, he cannot fly. Once the Wolf in Underpants learns of this, he decided that he will find a way for the chickadee to participate in the big race, one way or another!
Will the Wolf in Underpants be successful in getting the chickadee in the big race?
Read this story to find out!
Now, I will admit that I was a bit surprised to find out that this book is actually apart of a series called “The Wolf in Underpants” and this is the third book in the series! Seriously, NetGalley tends to only give out half of the books in a series and I usually find myself either reading the second or third book in a series first before reading the very first book in the series. Anyway, despite that, I really found this book to be so enjoyable and fun to read! Wilfrid Lupano did a fantastic job at writing this story as the wolf is portrayed as being a friendly guy who really wants to help out the chickadee with his predicament. I also loved how humorous and snarky this story is as all the characters, including the wolf himself, tend to make witty comments throughout the story, which really made this book fun to read! Mayana Itoiz and Paul Cauuet both did fantastic jobs at illustrating this book as the characters are humorous to look at and I loved the way that the forest is mostly in purple colors as it makes the forest look extremely unique from any other illustration that I have seen of forests in children’s books.
Overall, “The Wolf in Underpants at Full Speed” is both truly heartwarming and hilarious to read through and anyone who loves reading children’s books about sports and humor will definitely enjoy this book! I would recommend this book to children ages six and up since some of the humor might be a bit too witty for some smaller children.
So cute! I mean, beyond cute! Witty and so fun for the parents reading this out loud to kiddos! I will never tire of these wolf books!
The Wolf in Underpants at Full Speed is a cute children's story that teaches us about how ego and failures in our lives. The wolf is a great character to help the cocky chickadee understand his dilemma--he has a big chip on his shoulder because life has dealt him a raw deal. Life is not always going to go our way. The graphic novel shows children through playful scenes, great dialogue, beautiful images, and with a good message that we can overcome the adversity in our lives by facing them head on and finding a solution instead of mistreating and blaming others for our problems. By working together with The Wolf in the Underpants, the chickadee learns to be a better person for it in the end. The chickadee learns to think more highly of himself and learns to be good at something else even with his own handicaps. I highly recommend this graphic novel for children.
I had a lot of fun reading this book. The Wolf like everyone else is looking forward to a big event coming up. When someone starts putting graffiti on the posters, the others critters ask him to find who is behind this crime. Once he discovers who is doing it, he decides he wants to help them out. He comes up with a wacky idea, and it will make this race one no one will forget about for years to come. Fans of this series of books will want to check this one out.
So there's a wolf who likes to wear underpants - this is the third book in a series, and it's the first I've read, so I suppose his sartorial choices have been explored in previous volumes. The fact that said wolf wears underpants has no real pertinence to this book's story.
There's a big race in the forest, 'The Fast and the Featheriest'. There are posters tacked on trees announcing the race, and some malcontent has been ruining them, painting on slogans like "NOT" and "TOO BAD". No one knows who did this. Enter undie-wearing wolf.
Turns out it's a tiny bird who has one malformed wing, and therefore feels he can't partake in the race with any sense of fairness. And so the wolf decides to help him.
It's a nice story, with fun illustrations, overall it's a bit My First Graphic Novel.
A cute book about the value of not giving up your dreams and helping others. Young readers will enjoy the use of the word underpants as well as graphic novel format.
ARC kindly received from NetGalley and Graphic universe in exchange for an honest review.
This was a super cute children's book. The illustrations were beautiful and the story line was very sweet.
In this book our hero meets a surprising and sweet villain, who quickly become firm friends.
This is a great book that looks at friendship, acceptance, and realising that winning is not everything.
I would definitely share this book with my class.
4/5
What a fun book. I was not familiar with this author's work, however, after reading this, I was excited to explore the others in this series. I can see any young child pouring over the illustrations, commiserating with the angry bird, and laughing at the wolf in underpants. The message of inclusiveness for differently-abled characters is explored and doesn't gloss over the anger that bird feels because of his difference. The resolution is sweet and unexpected. Definitely, a must-buy!
The scene is set! The entire forest is getting ready for the big race but then, a vandal defaces the advertising posters! Surely, this a job for the wolf in underpants! Sure enough, the vandal is found and the plot thickens!
The artwork is great - there's so much activity in each page that kids are sure to enjoy. Characters are smart and writing is hilarious!
I read this with my 8 year old who found it hilarious. I appreciated the jokes and puns that might go over kids head a little, but makes the reading experience more enjoyable for grownups. There was an empathetic message of exploring your feelings, not giving up, and always being open to trying something new if things don't quite turn out how you expected, which I think is a really important message that all kids should have exposure to. The drawings had lots of interesting and clever details. We look forward to reading more books in this series!
As usual, we spent a delightful moment following the wolf in his adventures. He is still a favorite in this household.
This is a cute story. The birds are all getting ready for a race. The wolf who wears underwear goes unto the woods to find out who beat up the guards. It's a little bird that one wing didn't develop; he can't fly.
Lerner Publishing and Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It will be published on March 2nd.
The bird is really depressed but the wolf comes up with an idea. He takes the bird to where the race was started, pulls the banner back like a slingshot and flings him in the air.
The bird loves it! He can try all those things other birds do in the air. It gets him close to the finish line, too. Will he win the race?
In this book someone is graffitiing the posters of the great flying race. It is called the wolf that discovers the little pesky.
A very cute book with a good message.
