It was a promising read with good themes of determination, hardwork, and friendship.

A coming of age read that would suit teen readers well, I wanted to like this book but got really bogged down in the info dumping and how this book felt it was telling me instead of showing me. It was slow moving and predictable for my taste, though it was a nicely done plot.

Overall, this was a struggle, and I picked it up and put it down multiple times. There were many positive things about it, but it just didn't hook me.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Historical romance but make it medieval and YA! Overall this was an enjoyable read. I tend to like my romance to be steamy but this one is perfect for folks who maybe that isn't their cup of tea. It's a clean book as far as romances go. And I always love a murder mystery. A dead king and queen? Mysterious!

This was a story about a young princess who has to learn to become queen! I really enjoyed the storyline! Rosemund is a strong heroine. The author did an excellent job of building an intricate world! Thus, I recommend this for fans of Nadine C. Keels, Melanie Dickerson, and Jody Hedlund!

The Crown of Rosemund is a beautiful medieval novel. This YA by author Michele Ashman Bell is extremely well thought, researched, and written. This is the story of Rosemund. Her parents, the King and Queen, have died. She now has to prepare to stand up and defend her people. She trains to become the young woman needed as a ruler. It is a captivating story that grabbed by attention early with engaging characters. It gets a 5 star rating from me. I received a copy from Net Galley, but all opinions are my own.

This book is like nothing I’ve read before. You won’t want to miss it.

“ The king and queen are dead, murdered by one who will stop at nothing to rule. But the young princess—Rosemund—has survived, spirited deep into the forest by her parents’ most trusted advisor. There, she finds refuge in a small cottage and a new life, one in which she must play a role that will ensure her survival. Soldiers are combing the countryside searching for the lost princess, and they will not rest until she is found—and eliminated.”

4.5*

I really enjoyed this book and the story of Rosemund. I loved watching her grow in strength, both mentally and physically. She loses her parents, the king and queen, at the beginning of the story. She doesn't have much time to mourn as she is also fleeing for her life with the help of her father's trusted advisor Jacob. Jacob was one of my favorite characters in this book (ok to be fair I really liked and connected with all of the key characters in this book).

I loved seeing how Rosemund was protected throughout the book. Whether by strangers, by those close to her or by those who grew to trust her because of her goodness even without knowing her true identity. She truly took up her crown long before she was officially crowned Queen. I loved how she was aware of her parents' goodness and care for their people that she wanted to protect and care for them as well. It truly showed in her interactions (undercover of course) with the people of her kingdom.

I loved when she started to step up and speak to the people to help rally them and ask them to join the cause of overthrowing the Regent. Especially because she was still in disguise. But she didn't shirk away from her duties as the princess/queen, she met them head on and did so with strength and a desire to do what was right by her people whom she was a steward over.

Such a great book. I think that fans of YA will really dive in and enjoy it. I can't wait to share it with my own YA loving family members. I listened to some of this on audio and I really enjoyed the narrator. She was fabulous! So if you choose to read or listen, you're in for a treat!

Content: Clean. This book does deal with the overthrow of a kingdom so there is some death, some fighting, some training, bloodshed and such. But the author wrote it in a way that wasn't overly graphic and flowed well with the story. There is an underlying love story and there is only one kiss at the end. The love story is not the focus of the book.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Rosemund just grow up fast when her parents, the King and Queen are killed by a trusted friend and now they must his the princess until she can take over and rule but until this time she just be hidden and learn to rule the country but that takes time. You follow all the ups and downs that being hidden comes with .The characters in this story are so outstanding and become real as you continue the story and see what happens to Rosemund as she learns the secret of being a princess and what responsibilities that comes with.. As you read you get more and more involved in the lives of the ones who want good for her and have to learn who to trust and who not to trust! Enjoyed this story very much and you see how this girl becomes a woman and ruler of a country .Michele Bell did a wonderful job in this tale of love, loss, deceit and loyalty! Received from Net Gallery!

This book was spectacular!

Definitely on my re-read list as Michele Ashman Bell is a talented writer and I will most assuredly be reading more of her books in the future.

I enjoyed that is was a clean read, that was exciting and entertaining, as well.
The fight scenes felt real, without being overly graphic or nasty.

Rose was a wonderful heroine that you really relate to and I appreciated that aspect for sure.

If you are a fan of Young Adult literature set in Medieval Times this book is definitely worth checking out.
It's action packed and gives a new spin on this type of tale.

I love historical fiction and I love an underdog. I got so invested in Rose’s story I had to stay up reading until I finished it. While the outcome is predictable, Bell does a great job of making the journey an unexpected one. The characters are relatable and the plot moves at a good speed. Definitely worth losing the extra sleep over.

The Crown of Rosemund by Michele Ashman Bell, 256 pages. Covenant Communications, 2021. $17.
Language: G (0 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content: PG13; Violence: PG13
BUYING ADVISORY: HS - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Princess Rosemund is fifteen years old when she becomes an orphan. Taken to a small village where Sir Drake can’t kill her as well, Rose lives as Silas with her late-father’s most trusted advisor. And so Rose trains and waits in hiding until the day she’s ready to lead a revolution and take back her throne.
Rose has the difficult task of hiding who she is while becoming a princess worthy to fill her beloved parents’ shoes. I love watching her gain confidence in the transition because we all go through a struggle in trying to become the best we can be. Unfortunately, I found the climax, where they actually put the plan to take back the castle into action, confusing and hard to follow at points. I was disappointed by the anti-climatic feeling the confusion invited, but I still enjoyed the story overall. The mature content rating is for mention of rape, and the violence rating is for battle scene gore and mention of suicide.
