I've read a few Phillipa Ashley books and was excited to receive this one but I didn't love it as much as the other books I've read. It's a nice summery easy read and is still very enjoyable.

Sheer escapism! I loved this light, frothy book, a perfect antidote to anxious times. I loved the concept of Rose, given a second chance at life, after receiving donor bone marrow, seeking out her donor. Encouraged by a letter left by her recently deceased grandmother, she heads to Cornwall to track down her donor, her only clue provided by a postcard depicting a local scene painted by a Cornwall artist. Rose finds work on an architectural dig and by a chance encounter in a magic shop, finds accommodation which offers a unique vantage point on the boatyard owned by the handsome Morvah brothers, one of whom is her donor. She quickly gets absorbed into the lives and interests of the locals and also gets very close to both brothers. No spoilers but it makes for very enjoyable reading! Extremely well written, well researched, great original characters and good strong plotline. I loved it!

Another great book by Phillipa. Stunning Cornish scenery, well researched professions and likeable characters combine to make this a lovely read.

Another great read from Phillipa Ashley. I love all of her books they're so easy to read and the characters are always down to earth and easy to relate to. I highly recommend this author.

A lovely, escapist, easy read set in beautiful Cornwall. Locations are beautifully described and draw the reader in from the start.There is a lovely cast of characters which are believable to the reader and a great sense of community.

Phillips Ashley has penned yet another perfectly charming visit to Cornwall, this time focusing on stem cell donation and archaeology. A delightful visit to a seaside town and two brothers who work a boatbuilding business for their mother forms the anchor of this novel about donor anonymity and the powerful changes their donation brings to the life of others when it successfully abates the underlying disease. A sweet romance blooms despite unfinished business between the brothers. A perfect summery read.

A lovely gentle escape to Cornwall read. the story follows Rose on a quest to find her stem cell donor. A lovely with a mix of sailing, history and love. i enjoyed this book and love a happy ending which this book has.

I read this book in the middle of a house sale and move, and it was just the tonic I needed. It was engaging and the characters had me hooked from the first paragraph. I have loved all of Phillipa's books and I was glad to be able to read this one too.

The story begins with Rose the main character in hospital waiting for a transplant. Her father died when she was a child and her mother chased her career so Rose was brought up by her Grand mother.
Rose moves to Cornwall to a job for the summer she has taken this job in a village where she believes her donor lives. She find a nice flat and makes a friend who works in the shop below her flat. She also meets 2 brothers Joey and Finn who own a boat yard the brothers are like chalk and cheese in every way.
She gets involved in all the activities this little cornish seaside village put on through out the summer months, while trying to find out who her donor.
She dates the one brother but her heart is attracted to the other.
There are many twists and turns to this book it keeps you gripped. I wanted to read as fast as I could to find out what happens in the end, at the same time I did not want the story to end.
Phillipa Ashley has done it again another wonderful book. I could write more but I don't want to give away the middle or the ending I just hope there will be a second book on this story line.
Thank you Phillipa for a wonderful read to take me away to Cornwall away from the pandemic that has been our bug bear for the last 16 months.

My thoughts…
Quick sweet read. Since traveling is not an option right now, reading about Cornwall in a hot day beside the pool was almost good enough. 😆 The premise was sweet: about Ashley looking for the person who literally gave her a second chance to life. I do like the small town feel, meeting the residents and learning about their quirky lives. I enjoyed the boat theme, and how the story was not too predictable.

It’s always a joy to read a Philippa Ashley book and this one was set in Cornwall which adds to the pleasure of reading them. It was such a sweet read and I look forward to reading more. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

A lovely book that transports you to Cornwall when Rose goes looking for her bone marrow donor who saved her life and helped her continue her PHD. The description of scenery is lovely as is the Cornish Magick shop with piskies and potions! Rose meets the two brothers who run the boat building company with their Mum after the death of their Grandfather and she tries to find out which one is her donor!

A good summer read with a good story.

Absolutely loved this book. I had all different emotions going through me as I read it. I loved the setting of the different places. I could picture the Morvah brothers and Rose too.
Can't wait to go back to Falford again when the next book is out.
Phillipa Ashley's best book yet in my opinion.

Rose Vernon has survived a potentially fatal illness with weeks in hospital supported by her dear grandmother, and saved by an anonymous donor. She is so grateful for her life, she begins a search for the donor which takes her to Cornwall and the Lizard.
What a gorgeous breath of fresh Cornish air this story is! Sailing, history, Cornish culture, friendships and more.
Really loved this book and cannot recommend highly enough for a perfect Cornish escape!

A wonderful summer read by Phillipa. Following Rose an archaeologist and survivor of a life threatening illness from Cambridge to Cornwall this book does have you guessing the plot in a light hearted way. It’s a great summer read as she enters into village life with a will she won’t she thread.

This like other books by the author is set in Cornwall and is described beautifully.
The characters are all interesting and there are several themes within the book (archaeology, boat building & stem cell donation). I would imagine a great deal of research went into these elements as it all seemed perfectly believable.
This was a thought provoking book that also had friendship and romance in it.
A perfect summer staycation read.

Phillipa Ashley has written a heartwarming story that we incredibly hard to put down. The story started with Rose Vernon in the Isolation Ward of the hospital as she awaited her stem cell transplant. As she had no close relatives she had been on the Global Register and there had been a match. Rose was raised by Granny Marge.

The story continues four years later after the death of Granny Marge who suffered a massive heart attack while working in her garden. She left behind a letter for Rose telling her find her stem cell donor and thank him. All Rose has to go on is that it was a male. Through the Donor registry she is able to write a thank you. From the postcard she receives she figures out where he might live. Rose is an archeologist and she is granted an application to work on a dig in Falford, Cornwall. She has narrowed it down to two men - brothers Finn and joey Morvah.

Rose makes friends with Oriel and rents a flat above her Cornish Magick shop. Rose can't decide which of the Morvah's is her donor but she knows that she's falling in love with one of them. As she immerses herself into the village life, she finds that she doesn't want to leave when her time on the dig is up.

This was a wonderful read and I am looking forward to see what Ms. Ashley writes next.

A wonderful story set in a beautiful location. Philippa Ashley writes such heartwarming stories with engaging characters and the scenic backdrop of Cornwall just adds to the overall ambience.
Rose’s story is really emotional and I loved how we followed her journey. The inclusion of the boat building and myths and legends of the area were fascinating and when added to the wonderful mix of characters made this is a brilliant read.
