I've really enjoyed the Ancients Rising Series, Avery has been asked to watch over Mikael and his brothers who are new to the city and have just risen. They move in with Avery and her two brothers. Mikael has an instant attraction to her but decides to not act on it for now sensing she is not ready. Avery has taken over the raising of her two brothers after the death of her mother and her father abandoning them when her mother needed him the most. The city is in chaos and she wants to help rebuild it along with Mikael's help. After watching the what happened to her mother she doesn't trust love anymore but with a new enemy attacking all over the city she will need to overcome this survive and help Mikael.
Loved this story and the characters in it, I hope to read more about all of them in future books.
A series that is completely endearing. These men and the way they love their women. This book is another filled with excitement and complete devotion.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I'm definitely late to this party - but I really really liked this entry into the series. I am going to have to go back and read the books that came before! Mikael is a dragon shifter who, along with his brothers, recently woke up from a long sleep. Before they went to sleep, he lost his family and clan to an evil dark mage. Now, Mikael is in New Orleans living with a human woman and her brothers as he assimilates to the world again. The world that has recently been almost destroyed by evil dragons who revealed the supernatural world to everyone. When Mikael met Avery he almost immediately realized she was his mate - but has been taking it very slowly to ease her into this idea.
Avery is a woman working in construction and trying to rebuild the world that was almost destroyed. She has been through some major losses and betrayals in her life. She's kept Mikael firmly in the friend zone - assuming that even if they acted on their attraction, he'd quickly lose interest. She's 100% wrong - but it is cute that she doesn't see her own appeal ;)
This book drops you into the world without a lot of preparation - but it isn't hard to follow. There are a lot of names - that maybe I would already know if I had read the previous books - but I caught on very quickly.
Overall - I liked the world the author has created and can't wait to read more!
Definitely recommend for fans of Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
I’m loving these Ancients Rising stories. Shifters claiming their mates while fighting evil. Action and intrigue, witches, shifters, vampires, and a whole host of supernatural beings, all make for a dramatic and sexy read. Book 3 sees dragon shifter Mikael finally manning up and admitting his feelings for sweet, caring Avery, a human, who, it appears has friend zoned him. She’s friend zoned him because she has trust issues, she’s been burnt in the past and doesn’t want a repeat. It just so happens that Mikael is quite good at reading the signs, and there’s no way he’s letting her go without a fight. Of course there’s a bad guy messing it up for him. Great story, intriguing characters (I’m looking forward to more of these magical misfits), and wonderful writing. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
House flipper Avery agrees to shelter three dragon shifter siblings who are struggling to adjust to the new world. She is instantly attracted to the oldest, Mikael, but refuses to act on it or let him know. But when an old enemy arrives and starts causing problems, Mikael and Avery are forced to confront their feelings.
I enjoyed Avery and Mikael’s story. These two have been ignoring their feelings for the past two books and I knew it was just a matter of time before they gave in. Avery wasa hardworking, independent, and extremely kind woman. Mikael is a quiet, brooding, alpha male who is extremely protective of Avery. I liked both of them and thought their relationship was very sweet.
Their adventure to stop the enemy from Mikael’s past was action packed and filled with a lot of emotional scenes. This book also expands this post-apocalypse world with new kinds of paranormals, and different realms connected to the world. All of which I found extremely fascinating. I love a unique setting that grows with every book. But my absolute favorite thing about this book was that there were more baby dragonlings!
Overall, this was another great addition to the series! I really hope the next book is King’s though because I know it will be a good one.
The third book in the Ancients Rising series, Ancient Enforcer focuses on Mikael and Avery. Mikael is an ancient dragon shifter new to New Orleans who falls in love with Avery, a human charged with looking after Mikael and his newly-awakened brothers. As Avery and her brothers help Mikael and his brothers acclimate to the modern world, their friendship turns to more. With enemies old and new threatening them, their family, and those they love, Mikael and Avery will do whatever it takes to protect them and each other.
Mikael and Avery have a wonderful friends-to-lovers romance. It’s pretty clear that they care for each other from the start. However, both resist acting on their feelings for fear of ruining the friendship as well as the friendships that have developed between their respective brothers. I like that Mikael and Avery don’t act selfishly or impulsively, and they respect each other and the friendship they created. They have a deep and lasting bond, and their chemistry is fantastic!
I also love the other dynamic relationships in the story. From King and Aurora to King’s relationship with his people to Avery’s strong friendships, the author does a wonderful job of highlighting the importance of love and family throughout this series. Mikael and his brothers, for example, lost most of their family centuries ago. However, they are warmly welcomed into the family by Avery and her brothers. They all develop a strong bond and begin to see each other as brothers. I love how loyal and dedicated they are to each other, and they prove that family is what you make of it.
Something that continues to amaze me in this series is the author’s skill in creating a unique and vivid world filled with a wide variety of supernatural beings. In Ancient Enforcer, much like Ancient Enemy, the people of New Orleans continue to rebuild after the global exposure of the supernatural. New hierarchies have been established, and it is interesting to see how humans, dragons, vampires, witches, and more figure out this new normal.
Speaking of the new normal, we have another baby dragon! Hunter is the newest addition to the super-fantastic, charismatic, and lovable baby dragons, and he is a little ball of happy energy! I love Hunter and his playful antics. He is so lovable and silly, yet he shows such bravery and determination when it matters most. I adore the pet dragons and hope to see more in future books!
Finally, I just have to mention King’s story, which continues to intrigue me. He is a fearless and honorable leader who garners respect from the entire supernatural world. King’s relationship with Aurora is the slowest-building romance ever, and I’m totally here for it! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for King, Aurora, and all of the other characters in the series!
I highly recommend Ancient Enforcer to readers that enjoy urban fantasies with unique characters, a ton of pulse-pounding action, great world-building, and a fantastic friends-to-lovers romance. Plus, there are dragons!! Though this is the third book in the Ancients Rising series, it can be read as a standalone. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Amazing!
Another beautiful story from Ms. Reus. We travel back to New Orleans and follow the tumultuous journey of Mikael and Avery who prove they are will to do whatever it takes to be together. Action and drama abound.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
Mikael is a dragon shifter and he and his brothers just woke up after years of hibernation. He lost his older brother and parents right before they went to sleep. Avery builds buildings and flips houses and is no stranger to heartbreak. Her and her brothers live together and work together. King, the Alpha of the territory, asks Avery to house Mikael and his brothers. Mikael realizes Avery is his mate but he takes things very slowly. Avery’s brothers get taken and the kidnapper want a key that Mikael supposedly has. But with a vampire out there draining people and another creature turning humans, Mikael decides he’s gone slow long enough but he gets sucked into another realm and Avery will do whatever it takes to bring him back. Will Avery see her brothers or Mikael again?
Suspense, killing, and sexual tension. Mikael is strong and protective. Avery is independent and doesn’t believe in fairytales any longer. Loved it.
