The amount of steam in this book is incredible. The lack of biphobia is sublime. I love Selena and how she chooses her vow of celibacy to reclaim her life.
The parents and aunt annoyed me to no end as far as making Cade having to be the only adult and leaving her with a huge mountain of debt.
The slow burn of their romance made their coupling that much sweeter.
Satisfaction Guaranteed is such a delightful LGBTQ romantic comedy. The last thing Cade Elgin expects to inherit a house and a failing sex shop from her deceased Aunt but suddenly she is called from her life in NYC to Portland, Oregon for exactly that. She is not the only one who has inherited though. Her Aunt Ruth has spilt the inheritance between her and a local young sex educator Selena Mathis.
Cade and Selena are about as opposite as they can get. Where Cade is straight laced, Selena is fun and easy and where Selena is artistic and sex positive, Cade is formal and professional. It is a bit of a bumpy road but they agree to work together in honor of Aunt Ruth to try and save the failing sex shop. Cue the awkward moments, sweet moments, and unfortunate misunderstandings that occur as they are getting to know each other and their business model.
Satisfaction Guaranteed follows the opposites attract trope perfectly but also shows that people have layers beyond what it initially shown. I loved getting to know these characters and watching as they grew together and took risks for themselves. I also really enjoyed how body positive and sex positive this book was! The discussion of and exploration of female pleasure is done in wonderfully informative way that is not usually shown in romance.
If you are a reader who enjoys sex positive romances Satisfaction Guaranteed will likely be right up your alleyway. As I mentioned, it is also really body positive, and there is a lot of discussion of female anatomy throughout. If these type of discussions make you uncomfortable, you may want to skip this one. But if you enjoy books where the main characters grow, find themselves, fall in love, and learn about sex, this may just be the book for you!
What a fun read! I love reading books set in areas I know well. Highly enjoyed this one. I am looking forward to what comes next from this author!
Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters
10/10, 5 stars!
I’ll keep this one short and sweet: I flew through this book and absolutely ADORED it. The writing style was seamless to read, making it quick and fluid. It was witty, charming & such a fun read. Though it tackled issues lightheartedly, this book addressed the repeated themes of asking for consent always, using sensitive language/approaches to discuss topics that not all individuals are comfortable talking about & the delicacies of relationships, both healthy and unhealthy.
I absolutely recommend this one. Thank you so much @readforeverpub @grandcentralpub & @netgalley for the #giftedcopy of this sex-positive bombshell of a book.
This was such a unique romance novel - I loved it! I'm always on the hunt for more inclusive romances and this one was so refreshing. It deals with some heavy, difficult topics in a lighthearted way, making this a good summer read but also a super insightful and thoughtful story.
I am always on the lookout for more Sapphic fiction, and I am so happy I found this one! Satisfaction Guaranteed is fun, romantic, and so swoon-worthy. I absolutely loved it!
Stetz-Waters does a wonderful job creating two characters who are completely different in almost every way, yet they’re both endearing beyond words. The emotional appeal I felt for Cade and Selena was just as strong as the connection they feel for each other. Cade is quiet and unassuming while Selena is vivacious and unconventional. There is a tenderness that develops between them that’s just as strong as the physical attraction pulling them together. They bring out the best in each other, and that’s just one of many highlights about this book.
Let’s talk about sex! Nope, I’m not talking about the sex scenes (which are great). I’m talking about the sex positivity that’s entwined throughout the story. Selena encourages Cade to talk about her sexual experiences with absolutely no judgement on her part. She never pressures Cade for sex, and when they decide the time is right, Selena lets Cade set the pace. Consent is woven into every scene, and the women talk about vulnerability and inexperience without shame. I’ve never read a book that delves so deeply into sexual health and well-being.
I’ve never read Stetz-Waters before, and now I’m looking forward to getting her entire back catalogue. This book has joy written all over it. Even when Cade and Selena are at odds with each other, there’s a natural goodness within each of them. I was so invested in their happiness! The story moves at a great clip, and it’s full of brilliantly realized side characters. Satisfaction Guaranteed is full of humor but not at the expense of Cade’s self-consciousness around sex. I like everything about this romance, and I hope you do too.
I really enjoyed reading this book! It was so refreshing to see so much sex positivity and a truly engaging WLW relationship. I look forward to reading more from this author!
Satisfaction Guaranteed is a funny rom com. Cade Elgin has a life and career in New York City. She is a very organized hard working serious person. However her parents are the exact opposite. They live a hippie lifestyle with very layback attitudes. The three of them own a very popular art gallery in New York. Cade actually does most of the work of getting the artists and running the business side of the gallery however, the public thinks that her parents handle the artistic side.
Cade unexpectedly has her life thrown into chaos when she goes to Portland for her aunts funeral. She learns that she has inherited her aunts sex toy shop as well as her house and cabin. However her aunt has left it in a bankrupt state and Cade must work to save it from foreclosure. In addition, her aunt had also left half of these possessions to Selena who is an artist that lives in the small house on the property of her aunt. Selena is an artist that works in the sex toy shop. Selena and Cade are exact opposites in personality and values. Selena works hard to teach Cade about the business and they work together to improve the financial situation. Cade agrees to let Selena put on a big event for clients to come drink wine and paint their vulvas. This is definitely out of Cade's comfort zone. Both of the woman are lesbians and neither are in a relationship at the time. Selena had a bad relationship that has really affected her opinion of herself. Cade has not been successful in having any relationships. In spite of their differences, they are both attracted to each other. It is interesting to see how they handle their feelings for each other. I recommend this book.
Thank you Forever Publishing and Netgalley for gifting me an ARC of Satisfaction Guaranteed!
This sapphic romance was as sweet as honey. Based on the premise, I was expecting a lot more steam and ~use of the store’s merchandise~. And don’t get me wrong, it’s there, and it’s super sexy and fun! It just came much later in the book and wasn’t as prominent as I expected. This romance is definitely a crowd pleaser based on that!
I liked the third-person multiple POVs from Selena and Cade. It was helpful to see into both sides of the relationship. I did sometimes find the timeline confusing, though.
It took me a long time to come around on Cade, our more reserved and responsible character. But I love Selena and Cade together - they truly bring out the best in each other. I’d totally consider it a happily ever after.
Definitely gift this to your friend who is wanting to get into romance, or wants to expand their queer romance reading!
I do, I love this book. It is a great opposites attract, lesbian rom-com. Cade is wound up so tight and Selena is so carefree and open. That are a beautiful match and they complement each other very well. It was a touching story about finding who you truly are and believing in yourself.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one and I look forward to more.
I'm not sure what I was expecting when I picked up this F/F romance about two women who inherit a sex toy shop together and despite their differences, must learn to work together and of course, fall in love. But what I got was this totally heartwarming at times, steamy at other, wonderful read about opposites truly attracting, standing up for yourself and so much more. I will absolutely be looking forward to more from Stetz-Waters in the future.
This is the second opposites attract, lesbian woman forced by relatives to save a relative's failing business, must work with rose colored glasses, oblivious (yet incredibly attractive) employee book I've read in the last month. Neither title felt all that well-written or fresh, but this one piqued my interest in that it centered around a sex toy store. However, it ended up being a sex toy store as if run by a member of the red hat society-- upper middle class, middle aged white cis-woman.
Cade is billed as an accountant extraordinaire in a family of eccentrics, who also happen to own a reknown art gallery. Selena is a genius artist (natch) who has forsaken her talent after a bad breakup and is content to work in the sex shop and float through life with no responsibilities. I'm going to focus for a second on Selena because I pretty much hate her character. She's the obnoxious version of Blanche Devereaux; you'll be having a perfectly fine conversation about the weather, and suddenly on a dime she'll start talking about labia and clits. No, ma'am, I don't want to be in the middle of a serious conversation with me only for you to ask "want to see my vulva?" and toss over your phone. That's not cute. That's not normal...pretty sure that's at the very least sexual harassment. I also have absolutely no idea whether she's 20 or 45; it's never really stated nor clear in context, but what is clear is that she's immature as hell. She's pretty much the worst and I don't understand the attraction between Cade and Selena other than the standard lazy lesfic writer fallback of "they're so hot!".
If you're looking for light fluff without much of a plot that you don't have to think too hard about (and thinking about it just makes me angry) then I guess this is a fine read that will float your boat.
If you are looking for a sapphic romance, I recommend Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters. This was such a fun, heartfelt romance, with a quirky set of characters. Being set in a sex-toy shop, this book is sex positive with just the right amount of romance. While definitely a rom-com, this book also touches on some deeper issues. This is a well-balanced and well-written romance.
This was a delightful f/f, opposites attract. and forced proximity romance. I loved how open door and sex-positive the book was- a focal point of the book is the sex toy store that Selena and Cade jointly inherit. Portland was a great setting for the book, and I felt like the author really leaned into the arts community in that area.
Cade is a slightly uptight and grumpy art gallery owner who lives in NYC. Inheriting half of a sex toy shop from her late aunt is unexpected and unwanted at first. It was not left in good shape and she feels obligated to get things back on track.
Selena is a sales associate at the aforementioned shop, who was more or less a surrogate daughter to Cade's late aunt. She's also a painter who has hit an artistic roadblock in the past few years. due to an emotionally abusive ex. She is not sure what she is going to do if she and Cade can't fix things with the store.
This book was funny, and fairly light. Cade and Selena have great chemistry, and while they both grew quite a bit in the story, I think the characters could have been more developed. I just felt a bit let down in the end, that there wasn't more. It was a bit of a slow burn and I wanted more of the MCs once they got together. But overall it was a sweet book that I enjoyed reading.
I loved this! What a delightful read. I thought I was tired of the "sex shop as setting" for romances, it's so 2021~ but this was a clever spin on it. And I think the author took some nice chances in making things play out differently than expected. One thing I would say that I struggled with a little is the idea of Cade at like 29 or 30 years old never having had an orgasm. Idk, this is just not my favorite plot device ever, and I just think it's perilously close to basically "magical sex partner bc of true love." But that is a minor thing overall. I loved Cade and Selena and the entire cast of characters. A great read. Highly recommended.
DNF at 20%. I really wanted to love this book - was super excited for a FF romance and the premise sounded great. Two women who are opposites in a lot of ways inherit a failing sex toy store and have to work together to save it. Yes!!! Here for all of that!!
Unfortunately, the execution isn’t working for me. The characters feel overly exaggerated - I could see their differences without needing to be hit over the head with it. I also feel like it’s moving pretty slowly - 20% in and it’s really all been setup so far.
Please don’t let my review hold you back if the premise draws you in. It could definitely be the reader instead of the book but right now we aren’t a good match. Thank you to Forever and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.
Special thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A fun and unique sapphic romcom that needs to be on your list if that’s your jam! Our two main characters—one stuffy gallery girl and one celibate former artist—meet at a funeral and then end up inheriting a sex shop together. It only gets better from there. This is very sex-positive with great relationship development! A great pride month release and read!
Overall, I liked this book! I loved that it wasn't an angsty coming out story about the hurts of the LGBTQ community. While I think those books are so important, there are so few queer books that just revolve around queer joy and queer people having their own rom-coms just like straight people have. Our love stories are almost never portrayed as typical romances; there's always complications to queer love.
Some of the feminism in this book felt a bit second wave, very "lets talk about genitals all the time and attach them genders and constantly shove it in your face" it felt like I was hearing two pussy-hat wearing feminists talk to each other at a protest sometimes. It's time we as a society move past associating all feminism and womanliness with vaginas.
Satisfaction Guaranteed was just a delight: Cade and Selena’s chemistry had me invested from the start.
The characters stood out in this book, and the plot was fun to follow through to the end.
