Nadine spent a lot of time trying to get away from her past to have it come crashing back into her life, she's had a large secret that she hasn't wanted others to know. Her mother, Arlene is a serial killer, and Nadine is the one that led to her capture. Nadine now works as a forensic psychologist and has been pulled into a new case that eerily seems comparable to her mothers work. Who's behind all of this? Who can she trust?  

Some of the story line, conversations and assumptions just felt too far fetched to me and at times I lost track of who was who with the amount of characters being discussed. I really enjoyed the plot though and found the storyline to be intriguing and could see some fascinating charter buildup for future reads. I'd be interested to see where the series goes from here.

Firstly, I loved the concept of this book. The main character is a daughter of a serial killer. I don't think I have read any books with that trope before. Secondly, the narration was fantastic. The narration had multiple POVs in first person and this was including the killer. So, right from the start, we knew what was going on in the killer's mind.

What I didn't care for is the romance in the book, it felt out of place and forced. Who feels that much for a person they just met? I just couldn't accept that. Thankfully, romance is just a tiny portion of the book and is negligible. The writing style was articulate and clear. The language was lucid. I loved all the characters in the book, they were super creepy.

The plot was so different and unpredictable for me. The story was about Nadine who is a forensic psychologist. She was called to take on a case and provide the killer's profile. She then realises that this current murders were similar to her own mother's crime. Nadine had changed her name and none of her current acquaintances know about her family. The lead detective on the case and her have sizzling attraction between them. The killer is copying her mother's crime in an accelerated time frame. Will they catch the killer before he finishes? Read to find out!

Overall, it was a thrilling read. I would recommend this book to all thriller lovers.

Great start to a new series. Slow build thriller with some good twists.
Nadine has been hiding from her past for years. As the daughter of a vicious female serial killer, Nadine has no friends or relationships, suspicious of all people and struggles with feeling safe.
Assigned by her supervisor to be a profiler on a homicide, Nadine is terrified her past will be discovered.
And it is. Nadine realizes she isn't the only child of a serial killer working for the county and city.
Ohhhh gave me chills.
Love the characters. Nadine doesn't depend on her love interest to progress her research into the case - she definitely struggled with her insecurities but did a great job pulling it together herself.
Great book, looking forward to the next.

I was immediately attracted to this book because I found the premise to be extremely intriguing!

It was well written. I enjoyed the way the plot slowly develops, picking up pace as we read on. Even though it was interesting right from the start, the additional twists and surprises made it even more engaging.

For me the main highlight in this book, apart from the obvious search for the killer, was the growth and development of the main character Nadine Finch. We are able to read how her life right from her childhood has always been a struggle and her way of dealing with her mother’s crimes are pretty amazing. Her instant connection with Detective Demko and friendship with Juliette is understandable considering their similarities.

I’m glad this is the first book in the series. It was definitely an excellent start. I’m looking forward for more books involving Nadine Finch and hopefully even Detective Demko and Juliette since they make an amazing trio!

Well that was certainly a very different plot, bravo for that Ms Kernan.

Let’s get the bad stuff out of the way first. For me the book started in a very inauspicious way and I was dreading what was to come. There was a lot of hand wringing by our fearful protagonist, Dr Nadine Finch (you know I hate that stuff) and quite a lot of repetition. Yes, I heard you the first time you bemoaned the fact that your mother was a serial killer and you were very nervous of people finding out. What would they think? And then there was that cringeworthy scene where she met the detective she would be working with, I mean she’s just met him and she has a “longing ache in her heart” already! Really?

And now the good stuff. The book soon improved and settled into its stride. The plot was really interesting - someone is recreating the series of murders committed by Nadine’s mother, Arleen Howler. Arleen had killed four couples over a period of years. They were all married - to other people. She seemed to have a thing against infidelity. The way they were killed and later discarded is being closely replicated now, years later. Is this a homage to Arleen? A copycat? Or, as Nadine fears, is it somehow to explicitly draw her into the investigation. Nadine is tasked to work with the police department as a profiler (not her usual gig) after the first couple is found.

From then on, she can no longer ignore the similarities between the current murders and those committed by her mother. So Nadine knows there are more killings to come but she thinks they have more time. They don’t. And, in a creepy twist, she learns that a bunch of people she works with have more in common with her than they know. How could this be? Who can she trust? As the pace escalates the coincidences stack up and Nadine knows this is all to do with her but she doesn’t quite know how. It got very suspenseful towards the end. So three stars on average but I will certainly be keen to read the author’s next book. Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Jenna Kernan for proving me with a copy to review. My opinions are my own.

What an action packed read this was. From the prologue this book had me gripped. I enjoyed this book which is the start of a new series from Jenna Kernan.

A Killer's Daughter tells the tale of Nadine Finch, a forensic psychologist trying to disconnect from her troubled past of growing up with a mother who was a serial killer. However when murders are discovered which have similarities to the murders her mother committed, she's drawn into a dangerous web.

The novel is told mainly from Nadine’s point of view and the reader is able to explore her past and see how it informs her character. The characters were well developed and the plot had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing.

A Killer's Daughter was well paced throughout and also well balanced. There was some gore, romance and tension and I'm looking forward to the second book in this series. If you like psychological thrillers with lots on intrigue, complex characters, dialogue that flows and a good amount of description throughout this could be a read for you.

The twists and turns in this book are wild! Just when you think you have it all figured out, boom, the rug gets pulled out from under you. As a thriller/crime fiction junkie, the title of this book alone was enough to catch my eye. But once I got into the heart of this book, I couldn’t put it down. I mean, a chance to read about the child of a serial killer and how she tries to move on from and hide her past? Sign me up!

The prologue gripped me instantly. I loved how the author inserted small snippets from the murderer’s viewpoint. At times I did feel that the writing was a bit choppy, but as the book goes on I could tell the author found her groove. As you read, you are able to get glimpses into Nadine’s childhood and events leading up to her mother’s trial. Nadine clearly has emotional scarring from her childhood, and I enjoyed being able to watch (read about?) her growth as she learns to allow people into her life.

I’m glad this is the first in a series, and I’m looking forward to Nadine’s next adventure!

This book was excellent! It was hard to put down and once I did, I couldn’t wait to get back to it! It was thrilling from beginning to end. I read a lot of mystery/thriller books, and this one was unlike any I’ve read. It was fresh and exciting!

This novel is about Dr. Nadine Finch, who works as a forensic psychologist in Sarasota. She is no stranger to her work because at the age of 14 Nadine was the star witness in the trial of her serial killer mother and her mother was sent to prison.

Nadine is asked to join the team that is investigating the couple that was found and disposed of in the same manner as her mother used. She is asked to join has a criminal psychologist tho.

When she starts the investigation she thinks that the killer is a copycat, but she won't say so because she doesn't want to blow her cover to the others. But then she discovers that she’s not the only one with a killer as a parent. Will she blow her cover? Will the killer be found? Is the killer a copycat?

This book was great, the details were so good and really made you think and feel like you were there. It has a little bit of everything gore/romance it was like the tv show CSI. It also had lots of twists which was awesome. It didn't take me long to read this one. I just wanted to know more about the story. I finished it in one day. I recommend this to everyone.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC of A Killer's Daughter by Jenna Kernan. I'm one of those people obsessed with serial killers and FBI profilers. I've watched Criminal Minds so many times that it's probably a bit worrisome for my husband.

This book intrigued me right from the start. I enjoyed the alternating sections where you get in the killer's head. That's how the book started, so it really hooked me from the beginning.

I also loved Dr. Nadine Finch as a character. She was flawed and conflicted about her mother (a serial killer), and that felt authentic to me. Her relationship with Det. Demko at times felt a bit rushed.

The premise of this book really interested me, but I also found myself being very skeptical of that many children of killers conveniently working together, and of some of Dr. Finch's actions when searching for the copycat killer. Because of that, I am only rating this book 3 stars, however, for people who enjoy crime fiction and this kind of thing, I believe they will really enjoy it. My library is pretty small and my patrons who enjoy enjoy mysteries won't appreciate the addition of the romance, so I likely won't be purchasing this for my library unless it is requested.

Wow! What did I just read. A Killers Daughter by Jenna Kernan is book one in the Nadine Finch series. The book of course follows the story of Dr Nadine Finch a police forensic psychologist.

A horrific double murder takes place at the very start of the book and is very familiar to Dr Finch. It brings up what she went through as a child and having a mother that is a killer - a serial killer. Nadine is drawn in to solving the murder with her partner Detective Demko when she is given the opportunity to be apart of the case.

This book is definitely not for the faint hearted. Parts of this story are quite gruesome. The ending was everything a crime thriller needed. It had me guessing who the killer was up until the last few chapters. I recommend reading this one if police crimes are something you enjoy.

I am very much looking forward to reading the next instalment of Dr Nadine Finch and Detective Demko.

I enjoy thrillers and true crime types of books and this one was right up my ally!
This is the first book in the series, which if the series keeps up the pace and action I will definitely read all of them! Dr. Finch is a forensic psychologist, who unfortunately her mother is a serial killer. While she tries to keep that information on the down low of her colleagues. She has changed her name and worked very hard to keep that information in the past. However someone she works with is threatening to expose her.
When two bodies are found floating in the Florida coast, they are mangled and slashed. The crime is horrible but as Dr. Finch gets a closer look at the bodies there are eerie familiarities that are raising flags with her. The crimes look very similar to the crimes that Dr. Finch's mother used to commit and is now in prison for. So when Dr. Finch is asked to assist curiosity gets the best of her and she agrees to help. The twist and the turns are amazing! I enjoyed this one a lot! I would definitely recommend it if you like Sandie Jones or Christina McDonald type of books!

This is Book #1 in a new series from Jenna Kernan. I almost skipped over this one, because I’m not a fan of series. Some of them go on forever, plus you have the wait between book releases...too much stress, lol. And I already have so many books on my TBR list. So glad I didn’t!

Dr. Finch is a forensic psychologist, who happens to have a serial killer for a mother. Although this isn’t common knowledge among her coworkers. She’s changed her name and worked very hard to keep her personal history a secret. But someone knows, and is threatening to expose her...someone she works with.

Ms. Kernan’s comparison to Karin Slaughter is spot on! This thriller is excellently written...but vivid, grisly and descriptive. Reader beware!

There was a touch of romance between the two main characters, but nothing overly mushy. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more about Dr. Finch and Detective Demko!
