Fifth and probably final book in the Witch of Edgehill series is the best of them all. A satisfying conclusion that wraps up the major storylines without taking its foot off the gas getting there. Really this is one of the few series that really should be read in order as Amber Blackwood's journey from odd recluse to positive and strong young resonates more. Amber's shop, The Quirky Whisker, is hit by two incidents questioning the safety of her teas and her animated toys. Meanwhile the backstory over her mother's grimoires and feud with the Penhallows ups the tension and paranoia of who can be trusted. Throughly enjoyed it.
This is a Cozy Mystery, and this is the 5th book in the Witch of Edgehill series. I have read and review the other four books in this series, and I have to say this is a series that you really need to read the books in order. I think you will be lost if you just pick this book up without reading any of the other books in the series. I really loved this book, and I think this is my favorite book in the series so far. I love the characters in the series, and there are so developed. The little town that this book takes place in is so cute, and everything in the town is cats. This book is way more suspenseful then any of the other ones. This one is fast pace with a lot of suspense in it. I would almost call this book a suspense book, but the other books in this series is not as suspenseful. The book before this had a ton of suspense and fast pace drama going on right before it ended, and that carries over through out this book. I loved this book from the beginning to the end. I do feel that you are just dumped into a ton of drama right in the beginning of this book, but it is done so very well. If you love cozy mystery with witches then you should check out this series. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Ringtail Press) or author (Melissa Erin Jackson) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
I felt that this book was way too long with nothing in particular happening, but I should say that I haven't read more of the series, so it might be that. I'm gonna keep my feedback as neutral as possible due to that fact, but I didn't enjoy it.
This is the next book in this series and it is even better then the first. This series has great characters and is set in a wonderful location. I cannot wait for the next book.
So, it hasn't taken me very long to become a fan of Melissa. I have enjoyed all of her books and this is no exception. I feel like her books are very well thought out which makes the flow of the story go very smoothly. I love all of the characters in Pawsitively Betrayed because they are all so supportive despite what they find out. She has the best family on top of that.
The only thing that bothers me is that the main character lives in a small town and those who live around her are so judgemental about her being a "shut-in". I wouldn't even really call it that but she doesn't have a lot to do with some of them. Because of that, they think she's weird. I guess in a way I resonate with her a bit and find it aggravating when people think you're weird because you like being home.
Pawsitively Betrayed was a nice addition to the series! I just hate that it's ending here!
This is the last in this series I love and I will surely missed the characters and the setting.
Even if it's enjoyable I found it a bit too slow burning and sometimes I felt it dragged a bit.
I was happy to catch up with the characters, likable and well written as usual, and the mystery is solid.
I think it can't be read as a standalone.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I enjoyed the other installments in this series, but not this one at all. It took me months to finish, it was too long with nothing happening for too long. Disappointing end to a series.
The reviewers are correct. This was an especially difficult book to get into without reading the previous books in the series. The author did try to provide some of the highlights of the previous books but I felt lost most of the time. I am usually a reader who reads from the first of the series. I really liked the some of the characters, Amber in particular. I want to read more about the Here and Meow Festival. I definitely will be going back and reading the rest of the series.
I just cannot get enough of the Pawsitively series. Each one is a joy to read. Warm fuzzies I crave, which means I'll return to these books again again...especially around October!
Another excellent edition to a wonderful series! Full of twists and turns that leaves you wanting more and enjoying each moment until the end when the killer is caught!
I enjoyed this cozy. There's a little bit magical as well as a good mystery about the story. The setting is the small town of Edgehill. The town loves it's kitties and is hosting the Here and Meow Festival.
Amber is still growing her powers and learning about her history. Evil is stirring and Amber and her Aunt and her sister must stop all the bad juju.
Fun story and I like the characters. Obviously there are the ones to hate and you are not quite sure who to trust. Great escape!
I received a free copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun ending to the series. Though I feel like this could pick back up 10 years down the road with these characters, I think I liked how it ended. You got to see everyone one last time and the final battle was pretty exciting. There’s a lot to cover in this book, but though it’s a fast pace, you feel like it pulls you along for the ride and doesn’t leave you behind for one second.
This series is always fun and entertaining. Pawsitively Betrayed is the fifth book in the Witch of Edgehill series by Melissa Erin Jackson. I highly recommend reading the entire series. I have read that this is the last in series and I will miss the series and hope the author creates more series in the future. Thank you to Net Galley and to the publisher for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own.
The Here and Meow Festival has arrived in Edgehill. ! Amber Blackwood is very busy with preparations of this feline themed festival. Edgehill town is in need of the economic boost from the festival and everyone is hoping the festival goes off without a hitch. Before the festival two incidents happen to Amber's shop that make her shut down the shop during this critical time for business. Amber suspects its a fellow witch and sabotage. . A bad clan wants to steal her families grimoires which she went to great lengths to hid. Among these events she has troublesome people and is afraid the festival will be a disaster.
This was a great end to the series. I loved the festival and the supporting charcters. A enjoyable read .
Princess Fuzzypants here: Often there are series that you can dip into at any point and read away. There are others, of which this is a prime example, that the reader needs to have read from the beginning of book one to the end of the series. To do otherwise would not only confuse the reader but it will detract from a skillfully woven tale that builds each book upon the previous one until you come up with the penultimate book in the series. By this time, the reader has become so invested in the characters and the life and death struggle between two witch families, one good and one evil. You are looking for resolution and it comes with this book.
The Here and Meow Festival, around which all the books have revolved, is almost here. The floats are being made. The preparations are almost complete. This presents the Penhallow’s, the evil family, a perfect opportunity to raise havoc and force Amber to hand over her mother’s grimoire with the spell they seek. They threaten Amber’s business and Amber’s town and everyone who is coming to celebrate. This family has inveigled its way into Amber’s in a most insidious way. They also have a habit of putting on glamours so often Amber is not sure if the person is truly the person or a Penhallow in disguise.
For most of the book, they are able to keep Amber off her game. They play her like a fine violin until they make one fatal mistake that allows Amber to do unexpected things. They underestimate her even though she has already defeated and subsequently “cured” one of their members. Amber walks a very dangerous path, never knowing for sure who is friend and who is foe.
The stories are filled with fascinating characters, some humour, and lots of excitement and suspense. And it has a Maine Coon named Savannah. I would have to love the books just for that. But I have loved each one and this final chapter is both surprising and satisfying.
Five purrs and two paws up.
What a fantastic, wild ridge of a finale to a great series, hoping for spinoffs with some of her characters.
Pawsitively Betrayed is the fifth book in the Witch of Edgehill series by Melissa Erin Jackson. I highly recommend reading the series in order, as there is a larger storyline that is concluded in this instalment.
The Here and Meow Festival has finally arrived! Amber Blackwood and her fellow festival committee members still have plenty to do before the celebration of all things feline begins. Even though Amber’s witchy past keeps interfering, she knows the show must go on. Edgehill’s livelihood depends on the festival’s success. When two incidents involving her malfunctioning products cause her to shutter the doors of her curiosity shop, The Quirky Whisker, only days before the busiest season of the year, Amber thinks things can’t get any worse. An investigation into the incidents reveals sabotage is to blame—sabotage that only could have been carried out by a fellow witch. Things just officially got worse. With Edgehill overrun by tourists, any unfamiliar face could be a member of the nefarious Penhallow witch family. Though her parents’ grimoires are hidden in a remote location overlaid with protective spells, Amber fears that won’t be enough to deter the desperate and cursed clan from trying to get their hands on a legendary time-travel spell. As the opening ceremony of the Here and Meow approaches, Amber contends with a nosy lawyer, mysterious government officials, and a charismatic superstar. Through it all, Amber senses the Penhallows have something planned—something big. With her new circle of close confidants by her side, Amber must find a way to thwart the Penhallow family’s scheme before it’s too late. If she can’t, the Here and Meow will be ruined, and Edgehill could be wiped off the map.
Pawsitively Betrayed is a quick moving and emotionally suspenseful read. I spent more than one scene wondering if everyone was who the others thought, and who was scheming beyond the expected. I liked that Amber, Willow, and the other major players were still growing and evolving as characters- because that is what people do, grown and change as they experience things. I thought the mystery and magic was really well done, and I spent a great deal of time trying to puzzle out everyone's motives, personality, and next move. There were a couple scenes that were hard for me to read, mostly because I did not want the bad things to happen, and they were written so well that I could picture them. I liked that friendships, romance, and family dynamics were a big part of the story but never took over from the mystery and larger story line. I am sad to see this series end, but I will be taking some time to read other books from the author.
Pawsitively Betrayed is a well written book, and a satisfying conclusion to the Edgehill series.

A thrilling and adventurous end to a magical saga. It is not intended to be a standalone but you can read the tale backwards. There are some parts that are reminiscent of Harry Potter, themes of love, family, forgiveness and friendship permeate throughout. A thrilling tale for magical and non magical folk.
This is new author and series for me.
I have to say I truly enjoyed it!
I loved the paranormal plot and humor. I definitely will read the rest if the books from the series if I have a chance.
I was new to the series but was able to follow along. I do think readers would find the story more enriching to have the background from previous books. I enjoyed this adventurous paranormal tale. There's plenty of danger and mystery. A strong supporting cast keeps the story warm and hopeful.
Another great addition to the series. Great finale, looking forward to any offshoots staring any of her characters.
