I enjoyed reading this gentle historical fiction book set during homefront World War II. I learned about the publishing industry during this time and also the horrific problem of "baby farming' that occurred during this time. I really enjoyed the strength and determination of the main character Alice, the friendship between the female characters, and the romance that slowly developed. For me this was a very emotional and heart-rendering tale and I look forward to reading more books by Caroline Beecham.

"When We Meet Again" by Caroline Beecham
Release Date: 7.20.2021

Alice Cotton, a book editor in London, is doing great at her job. The public wants books to distract them from the war, and she's excited to find them! Publishing was affected greatly by the rationing. As things are going well, Alice finds out she's pregnant.

Alice's family promises to help raise the child, and Alice flees to a small town to birth her child, Eadie. Her mother sells the newborn to give up for adoption. Alice starts the hunt to look for her daughter.

The New York book office is run by Walter, the brother to the publisher in London. Walter sends Theo to London to help them cope with the challenges from the war. They realize they need Alice's help, but Alice disappeared.

What a good read. Much research went into this novel. The story was engaging! I couldn't wait to find out if Alice would find her daughter. There was a mix of mystery, romance, and drama.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in response for an honest review.
