How to grill vegetables is an amazing cookbook jam packed with recipes to get your taste buds tingling!
The beginning of the book goes through all the different types of grills you can use which is very handy for a novice like myself and should have good info and insight for more advanced veggie grillers too.
Each recipe sounds delicious and the pictures are so mouthwatering. This book made me so hungry!!
I can't wait for some good weather to try some of these recipes out!
If your looking to change up how you get your veggies, this is a great book for you to use. These dishes don't have to be just for vegetarians either as you can easily adapt them to meet your needs and requirements.
How to Grill Vegetables: The New Bible for Barbecuing Vegetables over Live Fire by Steven Raichlen is so great! I love to watch all his grilling shows on television. Having a cookbook with pictures, advice, and grilling information is wonderful. I have tried The Buffaque Broccoli with Blue Cheese Drizzle was yummy! I cannot wait to try all these vegetable recipes.

Who knew vegetables could sound so tasty?? There are tons of delicious sounding recipes in this book including one for Brussel sprout, bacon and date kabobs that I cannot wait to try! Surely some of these will help me get my kids to eat their vegetables, right?
A well-organized and photographed cookbook. Steven Raichlen explores so many vegetables through a variety of grilling techniques, which are thoroughly explained and include ingredients that are easy to find, as long as the vegetable is in season.
I really appreciated the explanations of the types of grills, fuel, and gear needed as well as the "grilling hacks" found throughout. Many of the recipes have variations of the ingredients for example, wood-grilled bruschetta could be grilled with tomatoes and ricotta or toasted pine nut and goat cheese. Overall, a thorough exploration of a variety of vegetables and how to grill them.
Thanks to NetGalley, Steven Raichlen, and Workman Publishing Company for an advanced eBook in exchange for my honest review.
The Perfect Accompaniment to any kitchen cooks collection!
I loved this book, it has opened my eyes to a vast array of recipes centering around vegetables - we usually default to coleslaw with our BBQ but not anymore!
This book is laid out really well with easy to follow but creative recipes, so easy to pick up and follow - the caveman corn is to die for.
I highly recommend this gorgeous book to any aspiring cook, perfect for vegetarians and non vegetarians alike and want to thank the author and netgalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wow! What a perfect gift for the guy or gal in your family who loves to fire up the grill or smoker!
Raichlen, a rock star behind the grill, shares loads of recipes, hacks, and tips for transforming your favorite vegetables into the showpiece of your dinner table. And your breakfast table too! From grilled wedge salads to pizzas to caveman caviar to grilled eggs, the author offers recipes to please every palate.
I look forward to experimenting with the dishes in this beautiful cookbook, and I plan to give copies to the bbq-ers in my family. Thank you for the ARC and the opportunity to review this book.
This book has its pros and cons.
Pro: The recipes are cool, new and unusual and there is a bit of everything, from dips and starters to large plates, vegetarian and meaty options and everything is grilled, even if it doesn’t look it or is just part of the overall recipe. It turns out, you can even grill lettuce and it gives lovely results.
The cons are that it’s not your average simple grill book for your veggie barbecue. You need to pick a grill, know all the types of grill, set up, and some recipes are very details and intricate – more effort than most of us would go through for a little side when having a barbecue with friends.
Overall, this is more for someone who looks at grilling as a style of cooking than a veggie looking for a few dishes to add to a barbecue. But if you are a keen griller, then this is it, because the recipes really are good and take grilling to a new level.
Strong vegetable grilling cookbook with delicious photos and interesting recipes. Most of the recipes require some form of outdoor grill or an industrial-level high heat range, which makes it perfect for the upcoming summer BBQ season. Recipes for dips, salsas, and other accompaniments are included.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
4+ stars
Beautiful cook book on grilling vegetables.
Lots of different equipment choices even though I would only be using a gas grill. Tons of “grilling hacks” offered during the book. Beautiful pictures with detailed recipes. I can’t wait to try out some of the recipes.
A very thorough and inspiring guide to grilling vegetables, I've tried several of the recipes and they are all delicious, i can't wait for the onset of spring summer to get grilling even more!
There is a very useful equipment guide a the beginning of book which helps you get yourself set up for success as well as techniques for different vegetables. I'll be buying a hard copy of this book for my veggie friends as it's so detailed. The recipes however are the real star, grilled radishes were new to me and a gorgeous new find and the smoked beet salad with smokey vinaigrette is next level.
There are photos for many of the recipes which makes the book a pleasure to read and inspires you to try new things.
This book is going to take my summer barbecue to the next level and beyond! The simple title of this book is quite misleading, it is so much more than I expected it to be, it is packed with amazing recipes which I simply cannot wait to try out. There are things in this book which I would have never thought of grilling (avocado) but the results look so impressive that i'm seriously thinking of buying a separate grill to accommodate all the vegetables I want to cook this summer.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy of this title in exchange for an unbiased review.
This is such a good cookbook. The beginning shows every little thing that is needed to grill some vegetables. You don't need to be a vegetarian to get something from the book. What the best part is that it gives real life pictures of what each vegetable looks like grilled. The recipes that come is easily to be read and used. Again, I loved the pictures of what it will look like when you are finished with the recipe.
Since turning vegetarian, our grill has been looking a little neglected, but this book has me yearning for summer and freshly grilled veggies. The recipes are well set out and enticing, and the food looks delicous. It's nice to see a cookbook not dedicated to grilling just meat.
I love a cookbooks and I have a variety of them for grilled meats and I was hoping to expand my skills. This book is filled and with a variety of recipes to try. How to Grill Vegetables is an excellent reference for anyone wanting to up their grilling game and expand to vegetables. This book has an excellent overview of equipment and supplies needed and easy to understand instructions. How to Grill Vegetables would be a great gift and it is a must have for any grill master interested in incorporating vegetables into their grilling regimen.
I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
Don't let the simple title fool you. How to Grill Vegetables is an encyclopedic look at grilling vegetables in ways that highlight their natural flavors. Author Steven Raichlen has included everything that a novice home cook needs to know with sophisticated techniques and recipes that will appeal to the more advanced chef.
The cookbook begins with the basics, described in simple language and accompanied by photographs. What kind of grill or smoker will you use and what kind of accessories do you need? Temperatures and techniques follow as well as some grilling hack advice.
Recipes are next. They are organized, with mouth watering photographs, into the expected groups: starters, salads, small plates, salads and sides, etc. My favorites are the grilled corn on the cob with parmesan, Old Bay seasoning, or wasabi butter; Romesco Sauce and, for dessert, Hasselback apples, thinly sliced and featuring rum and sugar. There’s even a recipe for smoked yogurt. One of the last sections, “A Vegetable Abecerarian” lists all vegetables and the way to prepare and grill them.
How to Grill Vegetables is a welcome and necessary addition to all cookbook shelves. It’s a classic. 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Workman Publishing Company and Steven Raichlen for this ARC.
How to Grill Vegetables, by Steven Raichlen, makes me wish it were summer and the garden is full of fresh veges. The recipes look delicious and easy to prepare and I can't wait to try them all. There are many different items that I would never have thought to grill, and that alone, makes this an exceptional cookbook.
For folks like me who love a grilled meal and want to upgrade their practices and recipes, How to Grill Vegetables is an excellent reference. Accessible details of equipment and supplies and manageable how to instructions really take this guide to the next level. Boasting a huge variety of recipes, How to Grill Vegetables would be a great gift or book to own. I love the way the basics are enhanced to become an uptown version, and the foods I wouldn't think to grill become instant possibilities.
I love Steven Raichlen’s cookbooks, and How to Grill Vegetables: The New Bible for Barbecuing Vegetables over Live Fire is no exception. He includes all kinds of important and useful information on his subjects in easy-to-follow chapters (with pictures), and then adds good recipes for using that new information. Grilled vegetables are all the rage right now, and since they are for everyone (carnivores, vegans, vegetarians, etc.) this cookbook is very timely and apropos for today’s cooks. Raichlen explains how grilling vegetables is different from grilling meats, and his information makes it possible for them to be tender and delicious without overcooking them or smoking them until they end up “smelling like ashtrays.”
Not only does Raichlen cover vegetables, but also includes grilled eggs, cheese, fruit, and breads. He includes innovative recipes that vegetable lovers (and everybody else) will actually want to make, and the instructions are easy enough to follow that any cook, from novice to expert, can make picture perfect dishes. Unfortunately, there isn’t a picture of every dish, but the photographs included are beautiful.
Because of this book, I’ve learned that eggplant (a new favorite) can be grilled using less oil and is just as good or better than the fried versions which are used in Moussaka and Italian and Middle Eastern marinated recipes and dips. Incidentally, Raichlen’s Cedar-Planked Eggplant Parmigiana is to die for. He includes dozens of vegetables most of us are familiar with, and gives explicit instructions for grilling them into wonderful side dishes, main dishes, salads, a soup, and even a few desserts.
Most fans of Steven Raichlen (including me) hope he never retires and continues to write excellent cookbooks on grilling, barbecuing, smoking, and outdoor cooking because he is the best – a genius, maybe. His recipes and advice will be valuable to most of us who actually cook and follow his recipes. Five stars, as usual.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
This is a gorgeous cookbook with really delicious recipes. There is a great section in the beginning that walks you through the different kinds of grills and throughout the book are tips on how to best grill the ingredients. Some ingredients might be hard to find, but I mostly found the author provided great alternatives. There were also great tips at the beginning of each recipe and in side-bars about the ingredients and ways to change up the recipe or pair it up with other ingredients.
How To Grill Vegetables is my "go to" book this summer. This book covers the basics of grilling with special tips to handle vegetables. In particular, the Vegetable Abecedarian at the end of the book is extremely useful. So many times do I have a veggie and don't know quite how to cook it. Simply turning to this section tells me exactly how to grill it properly.
The recipes in this book are a mix of classics like Elote and grilled tomatoes with unique ones like Grilled Egg Kebabs and Nashville Hot Cauliflower. Some of the recipes in this book require a roasting spit which I do not own, but most of the other can be accomplished with basic grilling tools. Most of the recipes are vegetarian, but a few use meat, typically bacon or ham, in the dish.
If you are looking for a book to shake up your usual summer vegetable grilling ideas, like corn on the cob or grilled zucchini, check out this book for inspiration.
