I really loved the synopsis of this book. And I really wished I enjoyed reading this, but I didn't. It was just okay.
It has not a wow factor for me. It was just a good 3 ,stars read for me.
I wanted to love this. I was intrigued by the premise. However, for a story that is about a want-to-be writer, the narrative style involved too much of the main character talking at me, instead of showing me things about her life through descriptive scenes.
It was a sweet and lovely romance story. It made you really feel connected to the characters. It was very easy to read and i loved everything about it.
I wanted to love this book based off of the synopsis. I wanted to love the main characters but I found it hard to connect with them. I don't feel this boom was horrible I just wanted addie to be stronger
I really wanted to like this book and I did like some of it . The writing style is chatty and full of (oft repeated) slang and phrases which are ok at first but which become wearing after the first couple of times. I did like the bulk of the story about Addie and her brother (who has Down's syndrome) . The book tour seemed too good to be totally believable and the relationships could have been fleshed out better. Great that this book shows Down's syndrome in a positive way.
Addie is quite naive and the stuff about family relationships seemed a bit far fetched. All in all though, I was rooting for Addie and her brother.. The book was not bad, but with a couple of tweaks could be better.
Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
I loved that Addie is a older single woman. I find to many times the singles women are in their 20s and complaining about being single. Jamieson ans Addie relationships could have used a little more sex and steam.. It was cute none the less.
Owen was funny and had the best lines. Dorothy is the worst.
All in i enjoyed the story and the characters
Love the cover as well
This book reminded me of a Hallmark movie and I loved it!!
Addie is an awesome character who is so relatable. Her life gets out of control and somewhere amongst all the craziness she finds love, even if she doesn’t trust it as first.
I absolutely adored this book and could not love it more!
Thank you NetGalley for an advance copy of this book for my honest review.
This book was definitely a different type of romance novel. Her Turn by Allison Jones follows Addie as she navigates sudden celebrity after a publisher buys her book. During her book tour she falls in love with her publicist, Jameson and encounters many life dramas. What I appreciated about this book was bringing down syndrome into a more main stream novel. However, this books starts out slow and it is hard to get invested in any of the characters. Once I got just under half way through though, I felt more interested by the characters and what was developing. I would say the beginning is definitely rough but for those that stick it out, it’s a good read. The blurb I read on NetGalley that was provided by the publisher definitely pulled me in but I can also understand other reader’s issues.
Addie has been working on her book for years. When she finally finishes it, and it becomes a hit, she’s unprepared for the media storm that follows. She just wants to focus on protecting her brother Owen, who has Down’s syndrome. But as she thrust into the limelight, there are always people that feel they deserve what you have. Jameson is an ex navy seal which has left him with his own inner demons. He now works as a publicist. When he meets Addie, there’s something about her that draws him in. Both Addie and Jameson feel the connection, but fight it because of issues in their last. But Jameson makes it his mission to make sure Addies and Owen are safe.
I absolutely adored the bus book. It had me laughing, and tearing up. Addie is such a strong wonderful character. She’s fiercely protective of Owen, and has dealt with a lot from people. But she doesn’t let it dampen her spirits. I can relate to Addie, in that I share a lot of her insecurities. This book was well written, and you are drawn into the story of these characters lives. This was a super fast read, and I didn’t want to put it down once I started it. This is the first book of this authors I have read, and I love her writing style and will definitely be reading more from her. I definitely recommend this book.
Her Turn was such a great read! I really enjoyed it. It combined romance and a bit of suspense just perfectly, I loved the different characters in the book and how Allison Jones put in life lessons. Each character had their own problems and she helped them overcome them. If there’s one takeaway from the book that I really took to heart, it was to enjoy the beauty of life.
Was not able to finish this book, had to DNF about 20% of the way through. It has a great premise, and I liked the representation of having an older, single woman as narrator. Unfortunately, the writing was juvenile and the dialogue was unrealistic and stilted. Most of the writing is written in a very explanatory way, info-dumping and telling instead of showing.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I have to say that it s pretty cute. I loved the characters as well as the story itself. It was a bit slow at times but I guess that's because this is a light read. I could easily relate with Addie about all her worries and insecurities, which made me adore her even more. While Jameson definitely seemed like a dream man to me. The romance was really sweet and captivating. Absolutely recommend this book if you are in a mood to escape the real world.
this book was a cute and quick read. I loved the relationship between addie and her brother. I do not typically like books with multiple narrators as I find them confusing but this one was okay.
At 40, Addie writes a best seller and goes on a book promotion with her publicist, the handsome Jameson.
Addie has a lot to contend with as she enters a whole new world full of glamour. Her nasty relatives smell the
money and make life miserable for her. , But Addie has her lovely brother Owen with her. He has Down
syndrome and has the gift of making events look good..
This book is a wonderful page-turner with tension, trust issues, and romantic bliss.
Her Turn is well written, funny, and thoughtful. . Join Addie as she carries her emotional
baggage and decides what to dump and what to hold close. to her heart.
I liked this story. It was lighter than most of the romance books that I typically read. I liked the interactions of the characters. The story was a little slow in parts but given this is a lighter romance, it was to be expected.

Her Turn by Allison Jones

This is Allison Jones’ debut novel and promotes itself as a “bookish romantic comedy.” I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book from @netgalley.

Addie Snyder struggles with all the attention when her debut novel becomes an overnight sensation. She goes from having a quiet life in NYC to attending swanky parties, appearing on talk shows, and needing an agent, a publicist, and a stylist. Her main goal is to keep her brother, Owen, who has Down syndrome, out of the spotlight. However, Owen is loving the attention, especially from the ladies. Addie originally cannot stand her rigid publicist, a former Navy Seal named Jameson, but when he does whatever he can to protect Owen, she begins to trust him. When her long-lost dad comes back into her life, she must do whatever it takes to keep her own life, and Owen’s on track.

I have to be honest and say that I was scared of reading this book at first. I saw so many reviews that said people DNFed it. I found it to be a quick read, so I did finish it. However, throughout the novel, certain things kept bothering me that took away from the story. I enjoyed the multiple POVs, but the repetitiveness of the chapters killed me. I also was turned off by the fact that every narrator talked directly to the reader. I will say that I absolutely loved Owen’s character and just wanted to hug him!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Addie has just achieved her dream. She has written a book that is changing her life and making her an overnight sensation. She is an extroverted introvert and the whirlwind she is being swept up in is almost more than she can handle. Enter Jameson, her newly assigned publicist. Jameson is a former Navy SEAL with issues of his own. Even though their personalities clash, there is also a mutual attraction that captures them from day one. Also part of the mix is Addie's thirty-year-old adorable brother with down syndrome, Addie's friend Nina, Jameson's friend Harrison, and a few people from Addie's life that want to cause problems.
This book has multiple narrators. They are written in such a way that they are telling the story as well as speaking directly to the reader. It was a little to get used to, but once I started reading with their voices in mind, I rather enjoyed it. I think this book would be great in audio with multiple voices. I really liked the story and characters. There were a few points where I thought the story was dragging a bit, but I really wanted to see what would happen next so I kept reading on. I'm not a big fan of the cover on this one. The guy depicted on the cover in no way resembles a former Navy SEAL who is a "silver fox". I can see the appeal of the colors and cityscape in the background, but I really like the characters depicted on the cover to match the story.
My sincere thanks to BookGoSocial and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read Her Turn and give my unbiased opinion of the book. I will definitely recommend it and will be watching for an audio version hopefully in the future.
Can we talk about the cutest book ever? Ugh. My heart. #herturn #allisonjones #netgalley #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview We meet Addie her mom has passed away and she is the care taker for her brother Owen. He has #downsyndrome which means he isn’t stupid. He’s special. He is such an adorable character. Addie has written a book and Jameson is hired. He is there to navigate her since they predict her book will be famous. She’s your average forty year old. No love. Thinks she’s fat. Battles with herself. It was so hard not to get captured by all the characters. Drama ensues as Addie “games” soars. Her and Jameson develop feelings for the other. This is definitely a cute book you want to escape into. #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #booklover #readmorebooks #bookstagrammer #readersofig
This was my first book to read written by Allison Jones. And I must say... nkwnim interested to read more and see what her others are like (if there is any).
But this was a romantic novel. And while I always love a good romance this was a cute read. Very quick. Entertaining. Cute. Read.
I felt it lagged in some areas. But overall good quick read.
This was a heart-warming story of the bond between the main character, Addie, and her brother who has down syndrome. As an educator, I teach kids with special needs. This book gave me a point-of-view from the caretaker of a person with special needs. This story was enlightening and showed the struggles and successes of someone caring for a sibling with special needs. A family custody battle is thrown in the mix bringing realistic drama to this enlightening story. This family drama becomes the main character's muse to creating stories of her own. I enjoyed this ARC edition and my honest review is that I appreciated reading about Addie's struggles to protect her brother.
