This is a quick, engaging read that will captivate you from the start. If you've read the Angelbound series, then you're already somewhat familiar with Lincoln - and this is told from his POV. He's a great character, and if you weren't in love with him before, there's no way you won't be now. (You don't have to read Angelbound to dive into this, Bauer does a great job of establishing Lincoln as a character, and it won't be too hard to follow everything). This may be short, but along with the character development there's excellent world-building, setting us up for the installments to follow - and I can't wait to see where Lincoln's story takes us next.
This was interesting and while it didn't capture me completely, I did go on to read the others in this series and enjoyed each one a bit more as they went on.
I finished Duty Bound last night as part of the A-Z Reading Challenge. I requested this book on NetGalley, not knowing it was a novella (stupid, I know). HOWEVER, I was pleasantly surprised by how I could follow the story. I did miss some world building, but that was to be expected. I won't judge this book based on that, because it was my own mistake.
I will start with saying: Walker is my baby and I will kill anyone who tries to hurt him. That being said, the author managed to make me like and hate characters in a novella smaller than 200 pages without a lot of buildup. That is impressive.
Lincoln is a ballsy character and I love it. He knows what he's doing and he doesn't act without thinking. I love the relationship he has with others, for example with his mother and with Walker.
I'm excited to read more about Lincoln and the mystery girl. Despite not having enough world building, I'm glad I got to read it before Angelbound because it gives you more information about Lincoln. I can't wait to start Angelbound!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me this eARC to review.
I did not get into this book like I expected to which is so disappointing. I sadly couldn't get into any of the Angelbound series so this is clearly just not for me while I am sure others will love the series.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is well written and the characters are described well. This is a fast paced fantasy. I absolutely enjoyed this authors writing style. This book will suck you in from the first page. I enjoyed Lincoln, Walker, Zachary and Myla. This ebook is in stores for $3.99 (USD).
Welcome to Angelbound. Christina Bauer has built a world and populated it with many characters that we have come to know and love. Duty Bound is a novella that gives us a little more background to our favorite fantasy world. Short read but of so good!
Thank you to Netgalley and Monster House Books for sending me a copy of this book! All opinions are my own!
As someone who hasn't read the Angelbound series before, I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book, but I was pleasantly surprised! It was extremely engaging and kept me wanting to know more about Lincoln and his world. I enjoyed the worldbuilding that took place and thought that it was very unique. I haven't read anything like it before, but it reminded me of Supernatural, and I loved that.
Lincoln was a very interesting character, and I enjoyed being introduced to the conflict he's dealing with and seeing him grow even in such a short amount of time. I also can't wait to see where things are going to go with the mystery girl.
This seems like a really great introduction to these series, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here!
If you're a fantasy romance fan, you'll want to check this series out!
Angelbound, Dutybound (Book 1 of the Angelbound Lincoln Series) – Christina Bauer
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher so I could provide an honest review.
Christina Bauer is an American author who writes many fantasy stories. Besides the “Angelbound Offspring” series she has also written the “Pixieland Diaries” and the “Beholder” series plus many more.
Lincoln is the Prince of the Thrax and has a hard time stating out of trouble and listening to the rules that his parents have set out for him.
Namely, he has to marry the daughter of the Earl of Acca and his parents insist that love not be a factor into the consideration of the union. Further, and probably the hardest part for him, is not interfering the in the Earl’s reckless deployment of his soldiers against the demons that threaten the humans of Earth.
And honestly Lincoln is fine with the arranged marriage – kind of fits into his plans of disrupting the Earls deployment of his troops, which is something he will never stop doing.
But one thing threatens all of this – a mysterious quasi demon girl in purgatory. And Lincoln isn’t normally one to let a girl district him.
“Dutybound” is a short paranormal fantasy story that has the first stirrings on romance entwined in the tale. If you are wanting a short read that will keep you entertained on a train ride or a short road trip to see a friend – then I would definitely recommend this one for you. The only complaint I have is that this ending left sooo many unanswered questions, but as its book 1 of the series – I can look past that!
This prequel Novella introduces you to Lincoln before Myla. What's not to love? A Demon Hunter Prince that stands for what most of us would consider the right path.
It was a fun short read with an introduction the world and characters and I look forward to continuing the series.
A most fun exciting read! Told by Lincoln and takes place before Lincoln meets Myla. Seems romance can take place and make fighting demons come in second! Love these fun reads! Thanks #netgalley and #MonsterHouseBooks for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
Started with Angelbound Lincoln Series instead of the Angelbound series, thus don't know the other side of the story. The novel did seem a bit small. It was a bit slow-paced as compared to the Magicorum series, Will definitely continue with the series.
Thank you Netgalley and Monster House books for the early in exchange for an honest review.
It was great to meet Lincoln before the events of Angelbound and to see just how much of a douche the Earl of Acca is.
However, I was expecting a little more from it so when I finished it I had questions.
Between the different personalities of Myla who is pretty much a hot head and Lincoln who gives a whole new meaning to calm and the action this book is non-stop! It's told from both of their points of view so you get to know them both very well! They really are the definition of opposites attract! All of the books in this series are fast paced with lots of adventures and action! Great read for anyone who loves fantasy books!
Oh; the questions this story left me with. Lincoln is a young man, Prince of the Thrax and demon fighter across realms. Till now his life has been filled with his duties. He is angered by his future father in-laws (a political marriage) disregard for the men under his command throwing away their lives and fighting Lincoln’s attempt to train them correctly. What does his future father in-law hold over Lincoln’s father? Who is Myla the part-demon girl and warrior? This book introduces you to the characters and the issues and leaves you with questions and wanting more.
2.75 stars.
It was not good but it was not bad?
I found the main characters a bit interesting, so i`ll see what else happends too, in the next book.
I found this book very interesting from the description, but unfortunately had not read any of the other books in this series. Therefore, it was relatively difficult for me to find the connection. Even though it was a prequel, a lot of knowledge about the world in which it was set was assumed. I think if I had read the other books beforehand, it would have been a good book, but as it is, I can't give it a top recommandation.
I got an ARC from netgalley of "Duty bound" by Christina Bauer. For an honest review.
It's a fun short story, but it didn't captur and seduce me to reading it. But it's easy and a at time fun read.
I really enjoyed this short novella. I enjoyed the introduction of demons and let’s just say I’m intrigued to continue the series. I enjoyed Lincoln’s character and I am with him in wanting to find out who the mystery girl is. Thank you Netgalley for this copy. I will definitely continue reading the series.
Really enjoyed this cute little insight to Lincolns POV on the first moments on the Angelbound story. I recommend for fans of the series. It was quite short with not a ton happening but regardless it was an enjoyable read.
I received an ARC of this from the author via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
For not having read the original series this is based on from Myla’s perspective, this was actually pretty good. The story stood on its own and offers a completely different perspective and insight into Lincoln’s life. It was short, sweet and to the point but it does a good job of laying a foundation for the rest of the books.
The only thing that really irks me is Lincoln’s and his parents relationship with Aldred. I don’t understand what kind of power he has over Lincoln’s father but I’m dying to find out.
I enjoyed this and am currently reading the 2nd one in the series.
