Book Description:
As the High Prince of the demon-fighting thrax, Lincoln knows he must marry for political gain. Not that he minds. For all of his eighteen years, Lincoln’s been bound to his duty. Then the prince glimpses Myla, a part-demon girl.
Everything changes.
Emotion blossoms, along with a single question: What happens when a woman you’ve never met upends your life completely?
Lincoln’s about to find out.
My Thoughts:
When reading the description I thought this would entail some kind of romance. It's not. You don't even get to meet the character Myla...like it says you get a glimpse of her. The description is very misleading and has nothing to do with the story. The only thing that is true is that Lincoln is going to marry, but you don't get to meet that person either.
The characters in this story were unbearable. Lincoln...is the self righteous...I am the hero of the story type of character. He is over confident in his skills as a demon hunter and says he knows all, but he also has a friend that tells him this information. I can't even describe why his parents annoy me.
The character I hate the most is Altred, the father of Lincoln's soon to be bride. A man who is overwhelming into himself and thinks he is the best person ever, but in reality is just an asshole who is okay with getting his team murdered.
I’d like to thank the publishers and netgalley for an arc in exchange of an honest review.
Okay so I understand this book is apparently part of a wider series, but this wasn’t at all obvious when I requested it. I believe it is the first book from the Male MC rather than the female character, a la midnight sun style. Is this something that is in right now?
Anyway, it’s a short book, and doesn’t take very long to get through. Probably about two hours maximum if you read the same speed I do. I’m not sure if this is shorter or longer than the original? Can someone tell me?
Anyway, the MC Lincoln is highly unlikeable and cringe. I really wanted to smack him. Or maybe it’s all the cultural references to make the book seem self aware even though they’re not human? I’m really not sure but in the first 10% Batman is mentioned about five times alone, so is cable and tv and a band which I already forgot but one of the traditional rock bands everyone had T-shirt’s for but haven’t actually listened to.
This book feels like those people. Trying to be cool but kinda missing the mark. I didn’t like it personally, but it’s a bit of fun so if that’s your deal you’ll enjoy it. The writing isn’t bad, I just didn’t like the tone and characters. It felt like a big juxtaposition between tones to have people royal all dressed up and in purgatory talking about cable and Batman. Also whoever eats wilted strawberries for breakfast concerns me.
This wasn’t for me, but give it a try if you’re into more paranormal romance lit.
Who knew Lincoln was so fabulous without Myla? (laugh) I loved getting this chance to meet Lincoln before Myla barges into his life. I always viewed him as a stuffed shirt and wow he has a heart.
Christina Bauer brings action and intrigue to Duty Bound the first in the “Angelbound: Lincoln” series. It is a prequel to the “Angelbound” series. We get to hear Lincoln’s side of the story. For me, Duty actually makes Lincoln human to me and I respect him more as Myla’s partner. He has a strong sense of morals and is willing to risk his life to save others.
I fell in love in this book too. Young Zachary is absolutely adorable. The best conversation in the book is between Zachary and Lincoln because it showcases who Lincoln is and will become. Zachary’s hero worship, fears, and honesty make me want to hug the young soldier. Keep drawing Young Zachary!
It is kind of funny to have read the stories that come after this one first and watch Walker squirm because we know the truth! (laugh)
If you haven’t started the “Angelbound” series yet, this is actually an excellent book to start with because you will connect with Myla and Lincoln as a couple for the future faster than the rest of us. (smile)
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
The first in a series and I got so involved I read it in one sitting. Lincoln the noble Prince of a warrior race who fight demons to keep the humans safe on earth, tries to trick his future father in law into giving up leading demon hunting squads as his subjects keep dying. This is a great introduction to the character of Lincoln who is trying to do the right thing by his people. In this instalment that means saving the warriors lives whilst balancing the demands of his parents thag he narry for duty and never fall in love. The only problem is he is being distracted by a demon human warrior whom he can't get out of his head.
Looking forward to seeing where the story goes next!
Absolutely love this series, great entertaining reads, great characters, fast paced and. The edge of your seat reading. Addictive series
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
I give 3 stars to this book for the storie, got me bored sometimes, Felt that sometimes give so much details that you get lost but the conversations were pretty good.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for providing an ARC.
This book was good, but had room for potential. I loved the characters and their developments however felt some things moved too quickly. The writing style didn't pull me in as much as id hoped and that affected my experience with Duty Bound. Overall, an enjoyable book, but I probably won't continue the series.
I have not read the original series so this is a full discovery of Lincoln for me and I have to admit that I'm intrigued! The setting is quite interesting with demons and demon hunter. The Prince who has to choose between duty and love... It's quite enthralling. However, I think the "love" that Lincoln developps is way too fast. Not much happened in those few pages but its not really a problem, it didn't prevent me from enjoying the writing and the story all the same. I plan on reading the other books of this short series.
4 stars
This was so much fun. I like the characters, the magic system and world building. Lincoln was an interesting and fun character to read. I loved his personality and that he didn't back down when he knew he was right and for the right reasons. It was super fun.
I'm very excited to keep reading about this world.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Duty Bound is the first Christina Bauer book ive read, and although her writing style isn't one id usually read i enjoyed the change.
This very quick read reads like an episode more than a standard book but the story line moves along quick enough that you feel like you could binge the series like a new show on Netflix.
The storyline feels a little Shadowhunters like, but has enough differences to make the book an adventure of its own and I look forward to seeing if anything will happen with Lincoln and the quasi demon.
Yes I’m reading another installment of the Angelbound series, and yes I like the cover. This one, however, is a little different than the others. This is a prequel, set before the first book. The cover is really pretty, and it fits well with the other books in the series. Yet another story about Lincoln and Myla, and I’m not disappointed by it. They’ve been the same characters we know and love through the story, and that doesn’t change in this book.
A little different than the others, this book is from the point of view of Lincoln, the High Prince of the Thrax, otherwise known as demon hunters. It begins with him stating how many demons he’s killed to date, one thousand four hundred and thirty-seven, but he has troubles connecting with his mother. Especially when she’s interrogating him about Adair, from the Acca house. Even worse, Adair’s father is killing off his own army just to spite Lincoln. To top it all off he can’t stop thinking about a certain quasi-demon that he saw.
I really enjoyed this book and it was a nice addition to the series. I liked seeing things from Lincolns point of view, and getting to know Walker better too. Definitely check it out if you get the chance.
I am enjoying this series from this point of view I do love this couple and this new take just makes me love them all the more. I would recommend this book and any by Ms Bauer I have not read one I don’t like .
Having read the stories of Lincoln & Myla, this was a wonderful opportunity to read the backstory as it were, from the point where Myla first enters into Prince Lincoln's sphere of consciousness.
We also meet Aldred & hear of Adair for the first time.
My only complaint....the book was finished before I knew it!!
A big thank you to NetGalley and Monster House Books, LLC for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first in a series. This is good from Lincoln's perspective, the Prince of Thrax. This happens prior to his involvement with Myla. In this story she is a Mystery Girl. It's a quick, fun story. I felt frustrated for Lincoln at the ineffectiveness of his father!! Poor guy. 4 stars
This is the angelbound series from Lincoln's perspective. It's wonderful to read more about Lincoln and see things from his point of view. Loved it! You don't have to read angelbound to understand the story but it's definitely better to have read the angelbound series. You'll get more from it...
