Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
It was nice to listen to a short story at bedtime with the family and then be off to sleep. Well, it might inspire a little conversation, which is also very nice. 5-Minute Really True Stories for Bedtime: 30-Amazing Stories: Featuring Frozen Frogs, King Tut's Beds, The World's Biggest Sleepover, The Phases of the Moon and More by Britannica Group is an audiobook I not only recommend to youth, but to families as well as anyone that is interested in interesting stories. They are quick and interesting stories.
Haha, I’ll give it this: the book definitely works for nighttime.
There are a lot of pretty fun stories included with this and I truly think the audiobook overall will do wonders for children to listen to as they fall asleep.
As someone who listens to audiobooks to go to bed, I fully support the theory behind this book. And honestly? The stories and narration are really easy and nice to fall asleep to.
This book is perfect for my fellow INTPs!!!
These bedtime stories are something else, and the title's 'really true' part is just so on point. This was a fascinating and informative read. I listened to the audiobook and it was a really magical experience.
While listening to this audiobook I learned a lot about the history of sleeping, nocturnal animals, how astronauts sleep in space and many other fun facts. My curiosity and imagination were positively intrigued and to say I loved it would be an understatement.
There is one downside though. Was it because I found these stories so interesting, but my brain was all awake and ready to learn?! With that being said, these were hardly bedtime stories for me.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Britannica Group for providing this audiobook in exchange for an honest review!
This audiobook is a treat! Very cute, very informative, beautiful narrating. It's a neat idea that was totally pulled off! It's calm and somehow both relaxing and stimulating. My 5 yr old enjoyed listening with me. The info kept him engaged.
Thanks netgalley and Britannica Group for an audio version to read and review.
This is a clever idea. This book is thirty stories which are short and engaging. They are great for the inquisitive lower elementary child who loves facts. Stories about history, science, and other topics are presented in manageable chunks. The audio version would be a wonderful bedtime resource for busy parents. I thank NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to listen to this audio ARC.
This book is very unique because it’s a nonfiction about sleep habits and what happens during nighttime. It was perfect for my 7 year old, we enjoyed listening in the evenings! The narrators’ voice is extremely calming, it contains fun sounds to relate to her stories and includes so much information. I would recommend for any kids that like Nat Geo type information books.
I was given access to this as an audiobook from NetGalley for my honest and unbiased opinion
I enjoyed the narrator of this book and found some of the stories to be quite interesting. It's a cute book for short nightly reads.
This was rather interesting, but not what I expected - my fault there, I probably didn't read the synopsis properly and was expecting different true stories, not necessarily all about sleep. But I did learn a couple of interesting information
My 8 year old son and I loved this audiobook. We've never listened to a nonfiction audiobook, and I was surprised at how engaged he was at the content.
Each chapter centers around a sleep-related question, and gives the scientifically-based answer in kid-friendly language. The narrator was soothing, and I can see kids listening on their Bluetooth devices as they go to sleep at night. Highly recommend.
5-Minute Really True Stories for Bedtime is a collection 0f stories 5 minutes or less that covered topics around interesting bedtime topics. My boys and I enjoyed stories about beds across the world, sleep, dreams, nocturnal animals, and other really interesting facts.
Every night my boys would beg me to listen to the audible book and it would become our tradition every night. Here are the reviews from the kids: "It was interesting, it put me to sleep quickly, and I wasn't tired in the morning. It also had some amazing facts about different topics." HIs brother said, "it taught you cool stuff about animals, too." I found myself looking forward to listening to the book every night and enjoyed the fun facts and time spent with the boys as we learned and relaxed.
To sum up from the young ins, "we highly recommend the book to anyone who reads it. You will have a fun and relaxing bedtime stories for 5 minutes. And enjoy when you're sleeping so you will fall asleep quickly and won't be tired tomorrow if you have school." I agree. Definitely a must read for anyone regardless of age. We give this a five star rating!
The format of this audiobook is just right for all ages. Each bedtime story is broken up into a 5-minute vignettes that are informative, and relaxing to listen to. The audiobook starts by telling about different kinds of beds that people have slept on around the world, or throughout history. It goes on to discuss animals' sleep habits, the solar system, and climates around the world. The narrator has a British accent, and speaks in soothing tones. My children enjoyed listening to this at bedtime as they fell asleep, as well as in the car on the way to school. We all discussed things we heard and felt like we learned more about animals and history. Highly recommended!
Thank you to Netgalley and Britannica Books for an advance copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a great book for children to learn about lots of things regarding sleep. The book is different than I imagine as the title suggests it is true stories for bedtime. Whilst they are true stories they are more factual details rather than stories. But still very enjoyable and informative.
Johanna Lumley does the narration and I thought she did a marvellous job. Here in the UK she often presents various historical and factual programmes and she has the perfect voice for the job. I also like the sound effects used throughout the book and I am sure children and adults alike will really enjoy this book.
Expected publication date 13th October 2021.
I am not sure why I went into this thinking it would be stories for children. I am assuming due to the cover? I was pleasantly surprised when I started listening to it that it is not at all. Well, maybe you could have a child listen to it but I am not sure if they would enjoy it as much as an adult.
This audio book did put me to sleep, not because it was boring but due to the content that just relaxed me. It was full of facts and knowledge about sleep and the narrator was amazing. I could listen to anything that she does because her voice is just so soothing and calming.
I HIGHLY recommend this book, especially the audio version. I loved it!
Oh I loved this. Such a unique idea. So I approached my two sons (Thom aged 11 & Jem 8) to ask if they were interested in listening to these bedtime stories each night, they were so we did!
We listened to the audio version voiced by the delicious Joanna Lumley who added so much to the experience.
Each of the 30 stories tell us little factual nuggets about sleep... Such as why we snore, when we dream, why lullabies help us get to sleep, how turtles breath through their bottoms when they sleep...my boys loved this, especially my eldest. It's genuinely fascinating, a great learning curve but also very relaxing having Mme Lumley tell it in such a wonderful way.
If you want to break from the norm of bedtime stories I would highly recommend this, very educational, fascinating, wonderful bedtime book
In 5 minute segments, Joanna Lumley narrates 30 bedtime stories that will delight young listeners who love science, facts, and nature. Each story has a different nighttime related topic, with occasional background music or sound effects that enhance the narration.
From how to sleep in a hammock, to different sleeping spaces, to the habits of nocturnal animals, there are interesting topics that will engage the listener. Occasional mentions of farts and poo are sure to grab their attention, and a few words may need to be explained for American listeners (zed, lorry, ladybirds...).
Joanna Lumley was an excellent choice for narrator, with her low voicing of the text relaying that perfect bit of coziness. While some of her pronunciations were not as expected, this is likely due - again and despite some familiarity with her accent - to an American ear and a British voice.
If you enjoy reading aloud at bedtime, or if looking for a bedtime read for your more independent non-fiction reader, this is a great choice. But having Joanna Lumley reading these stories, and singing the lullabies from various countries at the end, may be even better. Recommended.
This review refers to a temporary audiobook galley I voluntarily listened to via NetGalley, courtesy of Publisher Spotlight Audio and Britannica Books. A positive review was not required and all opinions expressed are my own.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. The information and the sound effects really added to the overall feel of the book. I like that you learn new things as you listen, and the narrator has such a nice, calming voice you can drift right off to sleep as you listen. I will definitely recommend this one to parents.
I really liked this book, I was worried it was going to be one of those 5 minute story books that are very annoying. Instead they were very informative and interesting stories. We found ourselves chuckling and saying wow I didn't know that. My kids definitely wished they had the actual book to read when they want lol.
Thank you to NetGally and Britannica Group for this gifted audiobook. This is a book compiled of short 5 minute stories about different topics that relate to sleep. Night hunters, different styles of beds, why we sleep and dreams. I listened to this each night with my daughter. She loved hearing these little facts and the narrators voice was very soothing.
My boys and I absolutely loved this compilation of short stories. They were so inquisitive after each one. It was hard to stop them asking questions while listening to the recordings. We have listened a few times now and they still really love it. Well done Brittanica!!
