This was a really fun collection of sleep stories, filled with facts I’d never heard of. Kids will enjoy hearing about animal sleep habits, and why we need to sleep. My kids are getting more into audio books this year, as am I, so this was a cute resource to test on them when we just want to listen to a few chapters. It was really enjoyable. Thanks for the copy, Netgalley!
These are the perfect bedtime tales for little ones. The stories are interesting and engaging without having too much excitement. The narrator, too, manages to find a space between having great expression in her voice and being engaging without making the listener feel like they should be getting riled up. I felt like this was the perfect before-bed story book that everyone in the family would enjoy.
I had a great time listening to this audiobook. For nonfiction, it was very interesting. I thought it was great that it could be interesting and soporific at the same time. For bedtime stories all about sleep and what happens at night, I thought it was great. If I had small children, I would definitely want this in my library. Not all bedtime stories have to be fantastical. I love that you can make fun bedtime stories out of interesting factual tidbits.
My son was excited when he heard that we would be listening to these, and although he's a bit old to doze off while listening to a five-minute story, they were very enjoyable! The voice was calming and soothing, and the length was great, just long enough to be interesting but not too long! I would highly recommend these to friends, and if you had younger children, it would be fantastic to make this a part of your bedtime routine!
It is a really nice bedtime story audiobook. The voice and the recording are very soothing which makes it possible to calm down right before going to sleep. The stories are also the perfect length so that you can just fall asleep without missing anything important. The stories are very interesting and from different subjects so there is something for everyone. Would definitely recommend it for kids that are interested in history, science, or facts in general.
I loved this audiobook, which was a collection of true facts that were told in a soothing voice which made each fact sound interesting and exciting. I really enjoyed learning lots of facts which I did not know about. Children will love this book and be eager to soak up lots of interesting information. I loved the narrator who had a great voice and her presentation made it seem like she was in the room with me.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Really True Bedtime Stories for any age in my opinion. The Stories are interesting factual pieces of information that you may not know about . The narrator speaks in a very soft melodic voice that soothes you to sleep.
Nice book..
My kid love to listen to books as they go to bed with our Amazon Alexa. These books were good for my almost 6 year old since he is all about facts and learning. My almost four year old girl would not listen to any of it. She needs a fairy tale or real book, not facts. The voice of the reader was very relaxing and easy to listen to and great for before bed.
This was an enjoyable collection to read as a family that we all learned from the various stories and looked forward to the next one without fail. Thank you so much!
I will definitely purchase a hard copy of this or anything similar that follows
Review of 5-Minute Really True Stories for Bedtime - Audiobook
This is a very different sort of bedtime stories book in that they are all true facts and not fairy tales. Very interesting for children and educational and informative at the same time. They are themed around bedtime and have such titles as Why do we sleep and King Tut's bed.
We had the audio book version read by Joanna Lumley. The reading was very well done and she has a wonderful voice for this sort of thing. There is such a lot of information given that it would be beneficial to have the physical book alongside the audio version I feel. My six year old enjoyed listening to these, but I do feel having the actual book as well would reinforce the facts.
I love the 5-minute storybooks because there's so much in them and kids enjoy them so much. This one was very interesting and I loved the audiobook version and how the narrator really brought the stories to life.
Engaging facts, perfect increments of facts for the young brain - older brains as well. Educational informative, not really bedtime stories - fact - not fiction but great for the inquisitive minds that will explain sleep rituals and help kids to realize the need for bedtime and sleep in general. Kids will learn new facts in each reading. It is beautifully illustrated. I'm excited to share this with my grandchild. I am purchasing a hard copy today. I like the audio version as well - the narrator's voice is pleasing and soothing. I will have it ready for an upcoming road trip!
5-Minute Really True Stories for Bedtime by the Britannica Group is a collection of short segments with real facts related to sleep and bedtime. This review is for the audio version. It is a unique collection and inquisitive children will love them. However, they are probably not well suited to bed time. Truly inquisitive children may have difficulty listening to just one segment and not asking a myriad of questions afterwards. Surprisingly, my son absolutely loves this collection and is not asking a million questions afterwards (just a few). I also think this collection was mislabeled with "stories." While there are some stories told, this book is honestly just a collection of interesting facts, not stories. We loved this book in audio format because the narrator's soothing tone was perfect for calming before bed. We highly recommend it! I received a digital copy of this audiobook from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
This is an absolute delight. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this is perfect for bedtime. The first story is 'why do we sleep' and from that you go on an unexpected journey which covers, human biology space, the natural world, history etc. It is fabulous and I highly recommend it. Joanna Lumley has the perfect voice for this audiobook and her narration adds depth, humour and leaves you satisfied yet wanting more. It's the best audiobook I have ever listened to - I loved it.
5-Minute Really True Stories for Bedtime is a book full of amazing knowledge that has been presented in a way that allows children to comprehend and learn! The stories include information ranging from why we sleep and dream, to world records for snoring and sleepovers to sleeping in space or on the move! It was a great book full of interesting facts and stories that would have kept me entertained as a child! I mean, who doesn’t want to learn about how people sleep in space or why we dream?! Even as an adult, there were a lot of things I learned while reading this book!
I’m a fan of sleepy time audio (I listen to chengyus like it’s my job to help me sleep) and this narrator did a great job. She has excellent pacing and expression. I would love to listen to her read almost anything.
These 5 minute pieces aren’t stories, they’re more informative little essays, which I actually like better for resting/sleeps but wasn’t expecting because of the title.
I can absolutely see this being used at home, and maybe as relaxing break time resource (or in the calm down corner) in the classroom.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for a positive review.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Brittanica Books for a download copy of this audio book in exchange for my review.
I loved it, I mean really loved it!
I am already a fan of bedtime audio books but this one stands out, particularly for my eldest daughter, who at 8 years old and often leans towards non-fiction over fiction material. She devoured this in one sitting.
This has been one of the few non-fiction audiobooks we have enjoyed.
(The reference to farting could have had something to do with that enjoyment)
These stories’ are mostly Interesting facts about sleep, told in a story format. 29 stories to be exact and all roughly 5 minutes long.
In my opinion this is an excellent way to not only educate but to settle the mind before bed.
The stories are simplistic enough to understand, but also encourages the listener to think and use their imagination or visualisation skills.
The narrator asks question like, “Where in the world would you like to sleep?”
This audiobook also explains subjects like what happens in hospitals, how astronauts sleep in space, and my favourite, nocturnal animals.
The scene is set through the stories using subtle sound effects that add to the story but not so many that they become distracting as we have found in other audio books.
I love the narration, Joanna Lumley is perfect for this role, engaging and clear throughout with a voice that sounds enthused and natural whilst remaining soothing for a settled bedtime.
The stories are ended with beautiful lullabies from around the world.
I’m delighted to have received a copy of this for our bedtime routine, I can see this becoming a firm favourite!
Really interesting little short stories. Although I am not sure stories is the right description as it is more just about sleeping and factual information.
I love Joanna Lumley and listening to her is a big sell for me! My children found it interesting and because they were only short installments they actually listened and absorbed some of the information.
I was expecting though for there to be actual bedtime stories, that may have been sleep or bedtime related so wasn't quite what I was expecting
Granted an early release copy by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. These are great short stories! The narrator does a great job presenting them so I will definitely have to get a copy for my nephew.
This audio book was a great find as it was so different. This was also the first non fiction book my daughter has listened to at bedtime and she loved it. The book consists of lots of five minute episodes all about sleep. It's hard to believe that there can be so much information to fill all these stories but there was so much to learn! Each story was full of information and covered all topics: how we sleep, sleep in space, The Northern Lights, Tutankhamen, star constellations etc. The book was narrated by Joanna Lumley who has a lovely calming voice, just right for bedtime. It has become part of our bedtime routine to listen to one of these each night together and we have both loved it.
Thank you NetGalley and Brittanica books for the advance audiobook.
