What’s Up, Beanie? was cute. I especially liked the reflections of both young and adult Beanie as they looked back on their life.

I know im not allowed to say anything but could I just say that this was so wholesome that now I want to cry and hug my mini me? Honestly, if I could draw I would like to do some adventures with my baby self so too bc I felt somehow very related. Thank you for this opportunity. I loved the drawings and how the author keep going with the novel so that you don’t want to quit it or put it down. I was aware of her art but Im so glad that I got to know her story with this book. I would definitely like to read more and have a copy myself and yes, obviously I recommend this to everyone. Beanie will touch your heart I swear. Thank you so much to Netgalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and oc the author. Keep it going girl! One of my favs for the year definitely. .

This fun read is about young Beanie who time travels to meet adult Beanie and ask how life is. We progress through a series of comics of Beanie as a child, Beanie as a Teen, and Beanie as an adult. The author/artist did a great job linking the various comic panels together to tell one story. It was lots of fun, darling, and a quick happy read.

I received an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a fun and relatable collection of 1-2 page comics that follows the daily life of Beanie, a sweet and sometimes neurotic character that loves naps, snacks and dogs, with her family and friends rounding out the lovable cast of characters. I'm a big fan of the author's web comics which often give me a good laugh, and I loved going through a whole collection of them in one sitting. It follows a loose chronological timeline and some comics with similar themes were clustered, giving it slightly more of a story feel than reading individual comics. And as a big plus many of the comics were brand new to me.

I would recommend this to fans of Catana comics and for any nap, snack and/or dog aficionados looking for a quirky, heartwarming collection of comics. I think this would also make a great coffee table book for browsing or a gift for friends.

I’ve been a follower of Alina Tysoe’s comics on Instagram for two years now. It’s great to finally have a collection of her Beanie comics in one book! She writes about childhood, pets, and family life in a way that is so relatable.

Her comics remind me of Calvin and Hobbes, and are a refreshing source of comfort and humor during this pandemic. I’m probably going to get a physical copy of this book for my personal library.

*Disclaimer: I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Being a collection of comic strips, this was a quick and light read. The illustration is adorable and the author shows life’s everyday joys and challenges throughout her life in these comics.

If you’re looking for a light non-fiction read, or you’re new to graphic novels or comics, this would be a great place to start.

3 out of 5 stars!

Aaahh, this was adorable! I loved reading through this comic memoir. This collection is awesome because it's relatable to so many people. The imagination, weirdness, awkwardness, social anxiety, and love of puppies of Beanie throughout her life means that if you have any of these quirks you are likely to find something in here that resonates.

The idea that you as a child has time traveled to meet adult you and reminisce about what has happened in the past is so fun. Many likely had very different ideas of what their life would be like when they grew up and this is a great way to showcase many of those differences.

This was such a great read. I loved how the author wrote these little extra comics of herself conversing with her younger self throughout the comics. It added a little something special to help with the flow of the book and it also reminded me of the Studio Ghibli film, Only Yesterday. These comics were funny, endearing, well organized and made for a relaxing and calming read. I could see myself picking these up again to enjoy.

Several times while reading this book I felt like someone had been spying on my life and then made it into a graphic novel. Completely relatable and so very sweet. The illustrations are simple but lovely. I loved this and will be keeping my eyes peeled by any future work from Alina Tysoe.

First of all, I appreciate that you have provided me with this book, I follow the illustrator on social networks and I like her art a lot, but despite that I will be honest in review. The book is a compilation of strips that she has made where she tells different moments of her life, her childhood, youth and adulthood. Some of the stories I already knew since they are on Instagram, but others were new to me. The stories have their touch of humor but that does not mean that it fails to deliver a message in each story. And in some I felt a bit reflected in the fact that it is difficult to make friends and it is all uncomfortable in the beginning. Although there were stories that I already knew, that is not why I liked it less, since they put together the book in such a way that it looks good that those stories are there and if you do not follow the work of the illustrator, it will make you follow her. For me it is a good book that has a good common thread showing how the illustrator has changed, has grown but continues with her essence as a child in the background. That is why I give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars, more than anything I give it because I would have liked to see more unpublished material, but that is not why it stops being a good read to spend the afternoon.

Thanks to #Netgalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for making this book available to me for an honest review.
I have been following Alina Tysoe's work on Instagram for a long time and they have always brought me nostalgic comfort no matter the mood I am in. Her illustrations are so comically eccentric and absolutely self-aware that it makes it easy to read and love.

What's Up, Beanie? is a collection of short moments in Alina's life that tells us a lot about her as a person and her relationship with her family and the world in general. These illustrations are so genuine that you tend to see yourself on the pages. As someone who lacks interest in social interaction and always appear to be the odd one out in social occasions, it was amazing to see her put some levity and fun into her interpretation of events.

She illustrates growing up and the pains associated with family and moving away to start one of hers. I absolutely loved it and I would highly recommend it.

Love this book!! Maybe am gonna reread it soon.

This is a comical version of Beanie's life, from childhood to adulthood, with her funny and honest way of telling her life. Beanie is the youngest of three sisters, waaaayyy younger than her older sisters. So she either bullied them into compliance, or they bullied her in older sisters way. A fun read to cheer you up.

I follow this account on Instagram and love her artwork. I have bought merch from her. I love her style. This did not disappoint. I will definitely be picking it up when it releases.

The idea is nothing groundbreaking if you like what she posts on Instagram you'll like this. It's fun relatable comics that are hopeful and cute. Her art style is delightful and I was impressed by how few comics had previously been posted.

My one issue was that the ebook I received had the comics out of order no matter what I did. So I wouldn't recommend the ebook, just in case, this wasn't just an arc issue.

A solid 4 star read for me. I will be buying one for me and a few friends as a present.

This was really cute. I've loved Tysoe's What's Up Beanie comics in the past so it's really nice to revisit and to see what I've missed. The child Beanie comics are still my favourite, she's so cute and funny. I really wonder how accurate they are to real life.
What's Up Beanie is so relatable especially to any animal lovers or creatives. I think the only downside is if you are already familiar with her work you will have seen a lot of the comics before but if you're like me and its been awhile, it is fun to revisit them.

Thank you NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for the digital advance reading copy of this book.

Aw, these comics are awesome! Alina does a great job of illustrating everyday worries and excitement within her comics. I love all of the panels with puppies, they were great (side note I freaking love puppies!!!).

Highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good read.

I've come to find that I greatly enjoy comics that correctly portray real life, especially when there is relatable good humor for comedic effect. This comic had me giggling throughout about the little things going on in everyday life. It starts with Adult Beanie meeting a time traveling Baby Beanie and goes through memories and events in her life when Baby Beanie asks what she's done. I adored seeing a curious baby Beanie exploring life in the way only a kid can, and then seeing how the traits she portrayed as a child developed into her personality as an adult.

I wasn't sure at first how to feel about Baby Beanie being a time traveler and talking to Adult Beanie, but the more I sat with it, the better I felt about it. That said, the beginning was probably my least favorite part because of this uncertainty. It also got a little confusing occasionally when I forgot that Baby Beanie was involved in all the memories Adult Beanie was reliving. She'd just pop up and catch me off guard. But after their interaction at the end, I really appreciated her presence because who doesn't want the chance to give their former self some advice, and get some in return?

The art style of these comics is absolutely amazing. It's adorable and fun while also managing to be extremely expressive. I cackled throughout the whole thing at the expressions the characters make, particularly with their eyes. It's a very engaging art style, and I'd love to see more of it!

Overall, this was a well done, very enjoyable collection of comics. On a final note, every single dog related comic was entirely accurate and extremely relatable. A+ doggo interaction.

I would say.....'a cutely relatable' comic collection! They are unique, cute drawings, & I'd guess most women will find several experiences in them relatable! It's a real quick enjoyable read. I think it is geared to a female, older audience.... probably experience-wise.....all things we can relate to, with a smile (relationships, parents, siblings, pets, food, work & play.) It is of a 'warm fuzzy' variety!
I received an e-ARC provided by publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt via NetGalley, after offering to read it & post my own fair & honest review.
