What’s Up, Beanie by Alina Tysoe is a comic book featuring an adult Beanie being visited by past baby Beanie in a feat of inexplicable time travel. Baby Beanie is a pink-haired, adorable, hilarious, mood-enhancing ball of energy that you won’t be able to put down. Every day childhood moments that many people can relate to experiencing in their lives are boosted by the comic style.
You’ll feel lighter after reading a few scenes of this comic, something I know a lot of people will benefit from!

I received an ARC from the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Very relatable to my childhood, my love for puppers is just as high. Adorable cartoon/graphic novel. Love following author on Instagram.

“What’s Up, Beanie?” really is true to its title, because indeed it couldn’t be more relatable and accurate about life and the events and mishaps of going through all stages of life.

I loved the artwork; it was simple but incredibly adorable and… dogs! Because I couldn’t relate more than I did with someone who just loves dogs so much, since a child and into adulthood! It’s a simple book and yet so deep in it’s meaning, and I think everyone can relate to most if not all of the situations depicted in it.

It was a fun read, with some important advices we should all remember as we go through life and sometimes find ourselves in not-so-great moments.

Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

What's Up, Beanie was such an adorable comic collection. I related to a lot of the things she discussed in her comics, like social anxiety and the big love for dogs!
Something I especially loved was that the artist included a childhood picture at some point. It showed the accuracy of this particular story and that made the story even better!
What I also loved is that the collection is the divided in different life stages, which feels very organsed and not chaotic.
This collection was a comfort read for me and I'm glad I got to read it at this time. This book is an example of why I love comics and graphic novels!

I soooo adored this little graphic novel! In the vein of Sarah's Scribbles, CatanaComics etc, What's Up, Beanie? is also a slice of life comic strip series where the author shares some interesting and hilarious accounts from her life with her audience! Since reading this book, I went and looked up the comic page on instagram and OMG IT HAS THE CUTEST ANIMATIONS OKAY AHHH

Anyway, I realllly loved reading this book! It's just one of those comics that make you feel all nice and cosy. Also, I LOVE THE ART STYLE???? SO MUCH??? It's very bright and vibrant and feels...idk, dynamic? It really is the perfect style for animation and the author definitely took advantage of that!

10/10 would recommend. Also would read a whole other book just to stare at those drawings!

I received this and as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for giving me access.

This collection of comics were hilarious and super relatable. Beanie is an awkward adult with her younger self taking her for a stroll down memory lane. Such a great representation on what out younger-selves might ask us if they would meet us today.

What's up Beanie is a collection of 160 coming of age comics with cute illustrations and an adorable main character Beanie! Through the comics we go on a journey through time and see the eccentricities of Beanie from her childhood to adulthood.

Awkward, weird, funny, sweet, and extremely relatable, Beanie is a treat!

A perfect light read to refresh your mind!

I've read some of the comics in this book but many I still hadn't and it was so cute and funny and so very relatable that I found myself nodding and laughing so many times.
Beanie is such a cute little character: we see her from a very young age until now, married and looking for a dog. I love her love for dogs!! It's so cute!! Like that's next level obsession and I'm here for it.

The art is really simple but that doesn't mean it's less than any other. The way the artist can convey all these events and emotions even without dialogue is what gets to me. I really love it.

What’s Up Beanie?
Author & Illustrator: Alina Tysoe
Genre: Comics
Pages: 226
Publication Date: 8/3/2021

Description: This is a collection of web comics about Beanie. The book focuses on three stages of her life – child, teenager, and adult. The book starts with adult Beanie making tea for a 4-year Beanie and explaining how she got to this point. The comic is described as slices of life and does not have an over-arching narrative.

What I liked about this book:
*The artwork is adorable and colorful. Baby Beanie is so cute and I loved how she learned about the world and puppies!
*I loved that the author’s love of dogs came out throughout the comic collection.
*I liked that the author varied the number of panels to match the content of the comic. Some comics had 10 panels, and some had as few as 3.

What I did not like:
*The teenager section is very short and not well-developed. For a teenager, they focused way more on Beanie cleaning and doing household chores than other teenage awkwardness.
*Some of the comics were cliché such as one person (in this case Beanie) being a bed hog with their partner.
*I feel like I was missing context for a lot of these comics. If you look at the author’s website, each comic has a brief statement about what she was getting at and asking the audience a question. I would have loved to see that in this book to help understand why she is jumping to these different topics.

Overall, this was an enjoyable comic with colorful, adorable artwork – particularly the baby Beanie section. I’d recommend it based on the baby Beanie section, artwork and the love of dogs throughout the comic collection.

A collection of humorous comics inspired by the author's experiences growing up. A cute and lighthearted book that will appeal to adults looking to relive some of the magic of childhood as well as those looking for a short, fun, fluffy read. The art is adorable and the bright colors add to the energy and peppy vibe of the comics.

I followed Alina Tysoe some time ago on Instagram: I love her style and her humour. This book is no different!

It was very funny, adorable, sweet, super relatable and blessed with a touch of seriousness sometimes. I still love the author's style, be it regarding illustrations or what she's telling us! I loved the way the book was divided - I didn't think my favorite part would be about Baby Beanie but it is! She's so cute and what happens to her sometimes really made me laugh! I still loved the other parts, Teenie Beany and Adult Beanie, because I could relate so much sometimes!

What can I add except that I want more? Ah, maybe that I badly want a physical copy now?

The level of cuteness in this book was nearly overwhelming, and as the oldest sister of my family there were many of these comics I found myself grinning at in memory of similar situations with my own siblings. It made me nostalgic for the days spent with my small siblings, while they were an annoyance at the time. There are memories from then that I would never get back.
If you are an only sibling, I am not sure this book is for you. But if you have siblings, especially siblings with a large age gap you will find comradery and nostalgia in this book.
I honestly cannot wait to have a physical copy of this book in my hands.

This was just lovely. I follow the Beanie comics on Instagram and love seeing aspects of myself in Beanie but also to get a better understanding of neurodiversity. It's drawn beautifully. Definitely recommend!

Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Alina Tysoe, and Netgalley for the ARC of this book!

I have been following Alina Tysoe's online comics for a when now, and I have always been charmed and entertained by the adorable and true-to-life stories she tells within them. Each comic is easy to view and enjoy as a single entity, but I didn't realize how cool they would be put together as a bigger story.

This collection of comics shares who Beanie was as a child, teen, and who she is now as an adult. Through it all, child Beanie interacts with adult Beanie to show what she grew into and how her past self would react. The various versions of herself teach her lessons about life, family, love, and lots of puppies!

This book was absolutely adorable and I greatly enjoyed reading it.

What's up Beanie? it's a cute series of moments of life. The color scheme and the lines give you sometimes a nostalgic feeling of thinking about the past. other times, it's also a reminder to always be your self and you will find yourself surrounded by people who'll understand you even in your darkest moments, or the one in which you feel more as a drama queen.

I'm glad I found another cute, funny and relatable comics.
The book is divided into three parts: Baby Beanie, Teen Beanie and adult Beanie. Each one presents adorable and/or humorous pieces of the author's life. All very relatable, I must say.
Some of Beanie's characteristics I relate quite a lot is her love for dogs 😍, and if "my childhood me" would visit me, I'm sure she would ask the same question Baby Beanie did to Adult Beanie, "Where are the dogs?", and that's one of the few things I have been able to accomplish, at least she wouldn't be so disappointed of the adult we've become 😅.

The digital and hardback versions of this book will be published on 03 August 2021

I received this as an eARC via Netgalley. These opinions are my own.
I loved how cute, adorable and how relatable this comic.
I easily feel in love with "Beanie" the main character. Just watching her grow from a 4 yr old toddler to a married adult.
This book just warmed my soul and a good palette cleanser from books that I was reading before this. I will definitely look for more from this author.
