In “What’s Up Beanie,” the titular character 5 year old Beanie travels forward in time and meets up with her adult self and they reminisce about different stages of Beanie’s life. The comics travel from the stages “Baby Beanie” to “Teenie Beanie” and finally “Adult Beanie.”

This was an absolute delight to read. It’s a very fun and light novel as you travel through various points of the main character’s life and learn about her love for dogs. I also really enjoyed the message of allowing yourself to be happy in the present, without regard of what may happen on the future.

This comic features stories throughout Beanie's life through her recalling them for her younger self (who is visiting via time travel).

Overall this was a very cute book and I highly enjoyed the comics. I saw a lot of myself through Beanie's awkward interactions and desire to be a "lazy bed gremlin." I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys comics based on everyday real life events and relationships.

This is the cutest comic!!! Beanie shows up to her adult self and you see how she was so excited about life when she was 4!!!! Many of these were a reminder of things that I did when I was little!! The hide and seek, being all squishy in my bed all covered up, and just exploring the world around me. I liked that this was a full book with being over 200 pages. This is such a cute read for anyone that wants a little nostalgia.

Beanie, I love you.
Baby Beanie is so cute and Adult Beanie is so relatable; I loved this comic. If you don’t follow her on Instagram, you definitely should. I really don’t have much to say here except that the stories were quite funny, adorable and relatable most of the time. I really like the drawing style also, with pink-hair Beanie. I recommend this feel-good graphic novel to any one, kids and adults.

This was a very cute graphic novel. The artwork was beautiful and I really liked all of the main characters, especially Beanie and her sisters at the beginning. Her relationship with her boyfriend (and then husband) is so wholesome, their scenes felt very homey and comfy. It is separated in different sections, baby, teen and adult, and I really enjoyed seeing her growth. I think the section I enjoyed the most was baby Beanie, and in my opinion it was the funniest, but the most relatable for me was (obviously) Adult Beanie. I definitely saw myself in several scenes.

Lovely story from start to finish. It was easy to identify myself with Beanie and found Tysoe's depiction of herself utterly relatable and humorous. 10/10 recommend to brighten up your day, as I was smiling my whole way through. Tysoe perfectly captures each moment of growing up and the nostalgia that come along with it.

I've enjoyed this webcomic for a long time and I'm so glad to see it will be getting a more permanent home in the pages of a book. Tysoe has great comedic timing and her comics always bring a smile to my face. Her personality really shines through and reading her comics makes you feel like you're passing notes with a friend. Plus, she's a dog person and there's a lot of comics about dogs.

I do want to specifically comment here that my review edition had a persistent error in which the comic boxes were out of order. I'm not sure if this is a glitch that only affected me or if this is true of the arc edition in general. Since this isn't a finished copy, I did not include this paragraph in my review published elsewhere, but I did want to point it out.

So in the comic we follow the author, Beanie, from childhood into adulthood after being visited by time traveling baby Beanie (which I found really funny and unique).
Some of the panels I had already read them in Alina's instagram account but I still enjoyed them.
The comic feels very relatable and nostalgic especially in the "baby Beanie" and "teenage Beanie" phase. Even though we all might live somehow differently I bet that there are some panels to which one could think "that happened to me when I was a kid" or "I have also felt like that, it's good to see that someone is going through the same". As for example, moving to a new city and having to make new friends or just having a bad day for no apparent reason besides the fact of feeling sad.

Overall the theme of the book is very lighthearted and funny but it does have some moments where it depicts anxiety and depression. Making the reader invested in the story and making the book even more relatable.

Adorable and laugh out loud funny, this is a wonderful collection of comics! It follows Alina throughout her life, from childhood funny incidents, teen years, and the fun of adulthood. Very relatable moments and just an all around joy to read. The art work was amazing and I loved every page of this book!! If you’re looking for a fun read that will have you chuckling then this is definitely for you!

*Thanks Netgalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

* I received an eARC of this book via Netgalley. All opinions in this review are my own.

This was SO adorable! I haven't come across these comics on social media so this book was news to me. I love the drawing style. It's simple and detailed just enough to look good. The author also knows how to carry an overarching story throughout the novel and weave it into the stories from the short comic strips, which is something I've seen a handful of times since I've been reading graphic novels.

It was super cute!!
First of all, I knew the author of this acutely relatable comics because I am a follower on her instagram account. I share her post with my friends and family because somehow, we all are Beanie. I laughed so badly reading again my favourites sketches, such as Waiting; Alarm; Olives and Dear Diary
Obviously, this recopilations has a story itself, Baby Beanie come from the past to the future to see the Adult Beanie, and talk about her life and how she has really changed, or not. I loved the final message from the Adult Beanie to the Baby Beanie. It was a simple but a powerful message.

What's Up, Beanie? follows the everyday adventures of Beanie from childhood to adulthood in a series of comics that capture the kindness, awkwardness, and hilarity that make life fun. The comics range from sweet family memories to classic coming of age blunders to the happiness of finding someone as delightfully weird as oneself.

I was so happy to see that this collection stayed true to the adorable and wholesome webcomic @whatsupbeanie. I've been a great admirer of the work since then, and this was a great collection to see! The art style was fun, and the comics were tied together to present a nice narrative structure.

I loved this book and I'm excited to see more from the author!

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet and wholesome collection of comics from the web comic series of the same name. The comics are linked via a through story that involved the adult author meeting her time traveling younger self and the two discuss their shared lives and memories. Familiarity with the web comic is in no way needed, as the conceit of the plot provides all necessary background information.

I was already familiar with the artist, since I follow her on Instagram. But I was delighted to find some known stories, others unknown, or even with an "extended" part.
A real pleasure, I recommend! Whether to people already fan or people who do not know yet.

A cute and wholesome collection of comics! Beanie has two much older sisters which creates an interesting family dynamic-- there is no sibling squabbling and they act like secondary care givers to Beanie.

Very fast read and cute art style!

How have I never heard of this Webcomic?! It's so adorable and wholesome, I love it so much! We see Beanie go from being a kid to being an adult and all of it is super relatable. Like her love of dogs. Dogs are the best. Dogs are wonderful pure gifts from heaven. Or! How embarrassing it is to flail your arms and accidentally hit someone. Or how if you eat too many tomatoes you might become a tomato. Seriously, I loved everything about these comics. 500,000,000 / 5 stars, would absolutely read again, am definitely following the artist on all the social media networks and eagerly awaiting the next published-to-the-web comic.
