I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book. 2 in the Everleiigh sisters series. This one picks up right were the first book leaves off. Isobel just married the Marquess of Roth and is abandoned in the country side by her new husband. She is fed up and decides to fight for what she wants this was a good read and I enjoyed it a great deal.

Initial Thoughts/Expectations:

I devoured this book’s predecessor in one sitting and was left needing more of Amalie Howards scintillating take on historical romance novels! I was excited and apprehensive to start Isobel’s story because she wasn’t necessarily my favorite character from THE BEAST OF BESWICK. Her sister Astrid was willing to sacrifice her own happiness to try to save Isobel from a bad suitor and Isobel couldn’t have been more ungrateful, in my opinion. However, after discussing Isobel with my book club, good points were made that Isobel deserved her own independence and she never asked her sister to go through such great lengths to save her. Keeping that in mind, I endeavored to give the younger Everleigh sister a chance to tell her own story.

What I Loved:

Amalie Howard’s take on historical romance feels modern and exciting while keeping to its traditional roots. The Ladies are elegant, and the Lords are debonair, but the wit and way they converse with each other feels freer and less formal. Isobel and Clarissa, her best friend, write a scandalous advice column under the pen name Lady Darcy, in which they dispense feminist ideas to the masses. Their writings were cheeky and filled with what I would imagine to be taboo topics back in the day. I cackled at the thought of uptight nobles reading the equivalent to a modern-day Cosmo magazine!

I adored the female friendships in The Rakehell of Roth. Isobel, Clarissa, Violet and Molly formed a motley crew, and I enjoyed the supportive cast. Clarissa was the BFF we all deserve in life and the MVP of this story; brazen, outspoken, and never letting Isobel doubt her self-worth. She made me laugh out loud during many parts and knew just how to break the dramatic tension that steadily increased throughout the book. Let’s be honest, it’s not a romance novel without, well, the “romance”, and The Rakehell of Roth didn’t let me down in that regard. Winter and Isobel have a contentious relationship, to say the least; as the man married her, bed her, and then left her with his dad on his country estate not to be seen again for over three years! When next they meet, his docile sweet kitten has grown up into a lion with claws sharper than he remembers. From there the sparks fly and we begin a game of cat and mouse. Isobel originally wants to exact revenge for being cast aside, and Winter’s end game is to scare his wife back off to the country with his rakish ways. It becomes clear rather quickly that both are in over their heads and in danger of losing their hearts, but that doesn’t stop them from their initial plans. The push and pull between Isobel and Winter was, in one word, HOT!

What I didn’t Love:

Unfortunately, I had a hard time understanding Winter’s motivations for not wanting a relationship with Isobel, even though it was apparent he had deeper feelings for her than he would ever admit to. Winter has family drama that caused him to become very emotionally cut off, which I think made it hard to get a feel for the man he really was. Because we didn’t have all the information on his family skeletons until the second half of the book, Winter’s actions came off cold and perverse. He was deliberately cruel to Isobel at every turn. He’s the one that decided to get married, no one forced his hand, so I found his actions after the wedding to be repugnant. Once we are finally allowed beyond Winter’s bad-boy façade, I could see the broken man underneath that deserved to find his happily ever after. Thankfully, Isobel also gave as good as she got and was up to the task of handling his churlish ways!

Final Thoughts:

Overall THE RAKEHELL OF ROTH was a steamy historical romance novel that pushed the boundaries for what I would typically read in this genre. For those of you, like me, who binged the Netflix series The Bridgertons and were left wanting more, Amalie Howard’s series will definitely fit the bill!

3 – 3.5 stars

This book was pretty good. I didn’t really care for the main characters, but I LOVED the supporting characters. I’d like to hear more from them, especially the twins. 

I did enjoy this entertaining story very much. I loved the way Isobel took things into her own hands and made more than a match for Winter, Marquess of Roth. At times, I felt like giving Roth a shake, especially when he purposely said cruel things. However, Isobel was certainly up to the task she set herself. It was good for Roth to be told a number of home truths. There are a number of interesting secondary characters, dangerous events and another romance. Altogether, an engaging read. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received an advanced reader’s copy of The Rakehell of Roth by Amalie Howard.

This book hooks you in from the start. One feels Isobel’s frustration with Roth. At the same time there’s understanding and sympathy for Roth. There were a few moments where I wondered why she bothered to keep trying with him. The attraction they have for each other came through and there was plenty of sexual tension in the story. I really enjoyed how each tried to gain the upper hand over the other.. I also enjoyed reading when Roth came to terms with his past.

Overall, this was an engaging, entertaining read. This was the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m looking forward to reading more.

Words cannot express how thoroughly I enjoyed this romance.! The drama & the angst kept me wanting more. The angst is a whole other level & being the angst loving romance reader that I am, I loved it.
I was a little worried that this wouldn’t live up to The Beast of Beswick but I was so very very wrong. This is just as good if not better.
I feel this can be read as a standalone but you get a bit more backstory between the characters of you read the first one first.
I’m crossing my fingers that this series continues because I need more of the Everleighs in my life.
(Plus the covers are to die for!)

Audio Review:

Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5

OMG – so hot and funny and romantic!

This book is only the second one I’ve read by Amalie Howard and I loved it just as much as The Beast of Beswick. These two books are connected (the female MCs are sisters) but you can easily read each as a standalone story.

I alternated between reading and listening to this book. Once again, Nina Nato turned in an outstanding performance of the audiobook. I will definitely look for other audiobooks that she’s performed.

I wasn’t expecting this story to be a steamy as it is – it was a pleasant surprise. 😉 Both Isobel and Winter are great characters. I loved how strong Isobel is and how determined she is to get what she wants. She thinks that Winter is indifferent to her but we soon learn that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The pearls of wisdom from Lady Darcy (the anonymous author of a women’s sexual advice column) that are sprinkled throughout the story are priceless.

As there are no more Everleigh Sisters, I’m guessing that there are no more books coming in this series and that makes me a bit sad. M/F historical romance isn’t my “normal” go to type of book but I’m going to take another look at Amalie Howard’s backlist!

A review copy was provided by the publisher via NetGalley but this did not influence my opinion or rating of the book.

Fun Regency romance with a twist of intrigue and heartbreak to keep it interesting. Roth has to marry to maintain his inheritance even though he doesn’t want to be the Duke’s heir. He wants an unemotional matti age of convenience and no heir. Izzy needs to marry to escape a loathsome suitor, but she also wants love and children. After being abandoned in the country, Izzy goes on a campaign to seduce her husband. The supporting characters are entertaining and the dialogue witty. (You will need to forgive some very modern turns of phrase, but it doesn’t detract from the story.)

A fantastic read that shows the true power of a woman scorned. Lord help Roth!
Ingrid was such a great character that shows how your circumstances can impact a person. Roth is hard and cold, to the point of being cruel but Ingrid will break through that exterior. Masquerades and passion mixed with great characters, I could not put it down!

Oh my gawd where has this beauty been all my life?! I am obsessed with this. There was so much steam and I was LIVING for it! And I love me a "gotta fix that marriage" trope!

This has so many different things in it that I just loved. I will definitely be buying a physical copy of this as well as checking out more books from this author!

He's no rake.

No.pe. Winter, the Marquess of Roth, is a changed man. The catalyst is his beloved sister Prue's death.
Winter was very young (21) when he married Isobel (whom we met in Beast of Beswick). At that point, he had undergone a metamorphosis from a rake to someone leading a double life with a purpose and a voracious need for money.

Isobel was even younger when she married Winter, a mere teenager, now, three years later, she, too is leading a double life of sorts. She is the writer Lady Darcy, a scandalous cross between Jane Austen and Fanny Hill. For three years, she's had to simmer in resentment, hurt and anger over Winters supposed notorious infidelities.

After the briefest of consummations after their nuptials, they have lived apart with no contact for three years.
And this is where their story really begins, after three years of marriage.

Smart, a little bit angsty, definitely sensual, its a great match up between two people meant for each other but who are living double lives.

Recommend.

The Rakehell of Roth by Amalie Howard
2nd book in the Everleigh Sisters series. Historical romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.

The Marquess of Roth married Isobel, did his duty and left her alone in the country for the next three years at his fathers estate. She tired of the gossip and heads to London to confront him.

I enjoyed the first book, more than expected since historical romance isn’t a particular favorite. This book was better. Maybe it was just the mood I was in, but the tone was lighter and the man spent hours on accounting and charity work. And he has been faithful while staying away from her all that time. Why not fall in love with him? But he too, had some growing up to do and letting go of the past
Lovely humor and glorious sexual tension. In a naive sort of way. Some old troupes and some kick it heroine.
I don’t know if this is typical of the author but I will be checking out some of the backlist.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I also purchased a copy to share and a copy to keep. I love a feisty heroine.

After The Beast of Beswick, I’ve been desperately waiting for Isobel and Winter’s story. Their marriage was one of convenience and I was ready for Isobel to return from the country and fight for her husband. Isobel is truly a great heroine. She may have been an innocent when she married but the years apart have taught her what she wants and she’s not afraid to go after it. The sensuality of Isobel and the burning attraction between her and Winter lights up the pages. This book is sexy and scandalous and that made me love it even more. Winter is haunted by the tragedies of his past and doesn’t think he deserves to be happy. Because of this and that he senses his new wife would make him happy, he leaves her in the country for three years and occupies the scandal sheets instead. However, I will say that there isn’t any cheating in this book for those concerned. When his wife shows up and is determined to win him back, Winter struggles to fight against her wiles and his own desire for Isobel. This leads to very sexy scenes and a burning tension between the characters.

In addition to Isobel and Winter, the side characters of Isobel’s best friend Clarissa and Oliver, Winter’s brother were equally interesting. The plot of the scandalous club Winter runs is great and the hints about his ducal friend make me intrigued for future books. I think Isobel was definitely the strongest character in this story and I loved that she turned a lot of different tropes like the heroine in distress and the shy virgin upside down.

I couldn’t wait to read book 2 in the Everleigh Sisters series, but I have to admit it was going to be hard to beat Astrid and Thane in The Beast of Beswick. Astrid’s sister Isobel and Lord Winter Vance, the Marquess of Roth had their work cut out for them, but their entertaining and tumultuous game of cat and mouse is a big hit with this reader.

It’s been three years since Winter left her after their wedding night. Over time Isobel’s broken heart turns into fury as news of her husband’s nefarious escapades in London turns the naïve and sweet young girl into a daring and determined woman ready to set London on fire while seducing her rake of a husband.

Lord Winter Vance is a stubborn and lonely man with a notorious reputation though it’s all lies now to keep his club running. His marriage of convenience to the beautiful and innocent Isobel helped him secure part of his inheritance to put money down on his scandalous club in London. But his conscience is bothering him and his thoughts drift to her often, until she barges into his London home and throws down a sexy and sizzling gauntlet.

I love how Isobel grows into a fearless and bold woman drawing upon her fake persona The Daring Lady Darcy who Isobel and her best friend Clarissa conjured up as an anonymous and wicked women’s advice columnist for the ton. Watching her shock and entice her husband to the point of frustration is priceless especially when he uses some of his wicked charm and naughty talk to throw her off balance as well. It’s a true corruption worth waiting for. I also have to mention the hilarious and side-splitting names Isobel calls her husband, the best being the Maggot of Roth.

The supporting characters have their own captivating story to tell. Especially between the saucy and outspoken Miss Carissa Bell and Winter’s grumpy and stick-in-the-mud brother Oliver. In addition, I enjoyed the fond relationship between Isobel and her father-in-law, the Duke of Kendrick. Their conspiring to win her husband back is delightful with the Duke’s staidness and Isobel’s forthrightness. There is a lot of hurt and secrets between the Vance men that center around the loss of Winter’s mother and sister and the author does an excellent job revealing and resolving the misunderstandings.

Amalie Howard has done it again! She has captivated me with her enchanting characters, entertaining dialogue, and sensual encounters which is just what I needed for a cold winter’s day.

Thank you to Ms. Howard and Entangled Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

The notorious Marquess of Roth never wanted to get married but agrees to marry Lady Isobel Vance to protect her from a former gross peer.
After their wedding night, he slips away back to London leaving his new wife behind at his father's estate. This way he'll never get attached because he can't be what she needs.

Three years later, Isobel is still leaving apart from her husband and learning of all his exploits via the gossip rags. When the latest piece arrives she decides enough is enough and heads to London to win her husband back by channeling Lady Darcy, a persona she and her best friend created in order to write a bawdy advice column.

I loved this so much. Especially Isobel's overall growth from when we first met her in the Beast of Beswick.
Oh man, and every time Winter ordered her to leave, I'd feel the sting and wonder what she would do next to get her husband's attention.

Do we get a Westmore book next?

Thanks so much to Entangled, NetGalley, and the author for this ARC to review.

Owning a unprincipled and wicked club, the Marquess of Roth has a reputation to uphold. He definitely does not want to be seen as a family man and so he leaves the wife he was pushed into accepting because of a strained father-son bond.
Isobel, the new Marquess of Roth has decided three years of exile and total silence from her philander of her husband according to the gossip rags is no longer going to be tolerated! She decides to journey to London on his territory and become a seductress to catch his attention.
Fireworks erupt when he discovers her arrival and how much she has changes from the young naive girl he first married.

The author makes the characters fun and fresh! I was wanting to turn the pages to see what would develop next.
I definitely would recommend this book!

I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

I had a great time with this book! I fell in love with the first book in this series of stand-alone novels, The Beast of Beswick, so I was really eager to read this book. I went into this book with pretty high expectations and I was not disappointed. The story pulled me in right away and I was hooked until the end by this pair of characters.

The book opens with Winter and Isobel's wedding. After their wedding night, he leaves his wife at his father's estate and goes back to London where he remains for the next three years. Isobel has grown up a lot during those three years and now writes an infamous advice column along with her best friend. When she reads the newest gossip headline involving her husband, she is furious and decides it is time to go to London herself.

I loved these characters. Isobel knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to take steps to make it happen. She sometimes does things that would be considered improper which I loved. Winter doesn't feel like he deserves to be loved or truly happy so he has kept his wife at a distance even though he is drawn to her. He works very hard at making his rather scandalous club a success. He has a lot of things to work through and Isobel is more than willing to help him do it. I loved the chemistry between these characters and their banter was a whole lot of fun.

I really liked how original this story was. I don't read a ton of historical fiction but the genre is not new to me by any stretch. This book started with the couple getting married and then we get to see them fall for each other instead of the other way around. Isobel was a lot more assertive than I am used to seeing and I loved her for it. I think that the author did a fantastic job of creating two characters that were perfect for each other in this book.

I would recommend this book to fans of historical romance. I thought that this book was a lot of fun, filled with great characters, and had a good dose of excitement to keep things interesting. I definitely plan to read more of this talented author's work in the future.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Entangled: Amara via NetGalley.

One of the best historical fictions I have ever read! This story is everything; emotional, romantic, sad at times, and a lot of fun. I loved all the characters, especially the main characters. I'd definitely recommend this book to every historical romance fan.
Lady Roth is tired of waiting for her husband to remember her. It has already been three years and now she is ready to chase after him. She knows he might not be easily persuaded, but she won't know unless she tries. So here she is, in London, ready to take control of her life once again.
He is known as the Rakehell of Roth, but he is not just that. There is a lot more to him and his wife will soon find it out unless he makes sure that she goes back to where she belongs. He isn't ready for a family. Marriage was just a necessity. And it's not like he was cruel to her or anything. He only wants to live his life the way he always has. And there is no way in hell he will ever give his father the satisfaction of seeing him happily married.
The two of them are in for a surprise. They will find out that neither is what they seem, and life will surely get a lot more interesting.
If you are looking for an emotional rollercoaster of a historical romance, then you must read this book.

What a delightful read! An insecure woman become a strong, independent one, and decides it is time to reel her husband in who has been in the scandal sheets for too long. Isobel has finally had enough of being left in the country and decides it is time to seduce her husband. Winter had his reasons for marrying Isobel and has carried the past on his shoulders for too long. Winter is proud of his club, but he uses it for something else. He is shocked to find his wife in London and demands she return to the country. Isobel has no intention of leaving and a battle of wills begins between them. Winter craves his wife, but cannot give her what she wants. He hurts her to try and get her to leave, even though he wants to do wicked things to her. Isobel is stubborn and she has a few tricks up her sleeve, but it will it be enough to sway the marquess?
I received this novel as an ARC from net galley and the publisher. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
