The SEAL’s Convenient Wife by Leslie North

Patrick Nelson returns for a seal mission to discover his daughter has been abandoned by her mother and now is in foster care. Imogen Mendel is his daughter's kindergarten teacher who is in witness protection so they decide to marry for a year so that his daughter is settled and returned to him permanently by the CPS.

A good easy read with a few twists & turns.

This was a super sweet romance. The characterisation was brilliant, and the backstories were really well developed for such a short book. The plot was fun, although maybe could have been more dramatic when imogen's storyline came to a head. However its only a short novel so I understand why it isn't overly elaborate, but it did make me feel like I was waiting for the next big thing to happen but instead the book ended. Like I said, the romance was so sweet although I again felt like the ending left with potential issues with their relationship which is unusual for a romance but I suppose it is more realistic to real life.
As always I enjoy Leslie's writing style and the sex was very fun in this book. Great quick read, thoroughly enjoyed.

Yay, another SEAL series from Leslie North. We have the hot SEAL Patrick, who finds out after his latest mission that his ex has left their daughter with Child Protection Services, while moving in with her new lover. And now Patrick wants his daughter back. But that will not go as easily as he thinks: partially because Ellery's teacher, Imogen, has doubts that Patrick will be able to singlehanded raise his daughter.
But Imogen has more worries that just Ellery's tantrums: she is being threatened because she is about to testify in a murder case. And although she is a witness protection program, it appears that they are after her. So, now Patrick sees a solution for both of them: a fake marriage so Imogen can help Patrick raise Ellery and he can protect her from her enemies.
And after one year, they will go their seperate ways. But after some time, the fake marriage maybe doesn't feel as fake as it is...
Suspense, romance and sparks flying. What's not to love? Four out of four stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

This book made an enjoyable read. I would rate this book 3.5 stars.

The plot was well written and realistic even if the storyline was a cliche. The best part of the book was that nothing was exaggerated. All the situations and characters were believable and relatable. Unlike all the books out there, the young daughter wasn't an angel but was portrayed as a troubled kid that had had a rough childhood. The challenges faced by parents was also well written and explored.

The disappointing part was the romance. The book was too short to build up the romance well. I would have enjoyed some dialogue between the main characters. I wish the author had included more scenes where they developed a relationship.

Overall, it was a great book and would definitely recommend it for a light read with HEA.

I really liked the MC characters Patrick and Imogen, but I was a bit disappointed with the lack of fake-relationship-to-real-relationship, it mostly went to real within a day or two, so that trope didn't really get fulfilled. The lack of suspense/ action was a downer too, since that was the reason behind Imogen agreeing to get married, there was hardly any action. We get a hint that Imogen's handler is dirty but then we never hear more about it. The cast of characters should have also been fleshed out more- the only character we get to know a tiny bit are Patrick's brother and fellow seal mate Anderson.

I was given this ARC for my honest review through NetGalley.

It was a fast read story, touching on a couple really tough/ hard issues. I have seen Patrick situation as being a military wife for 12 years, it hit close to home. I wanted to take Ellery and just protect her from the world, and Imogen was a great teacher.

Good read, with some sad parts, just be warned.

This was a pretty good, easy read. The connection between the two main characters was quick and the story wasn’t drawn out with too many details. Although there were a few small plot points, nothing too major happened but that’s what makes it a book you can enjoy in a day or two, or in just a few hours. I loved that the main characters were a SEAL and a Kindergarten teacher since I can connect with those. Overall, a good book!

I read it in one sitting. It was as predictable as any other novel of the sort and i guess that when you go for a book like this... its to get that story that will go well. And end well

The seal's convenient wife by Leslie North.
This was a good read with some good characters. Although I didn't like Grant or his father. I liked Patrick Ellery and Imogen. I liked the story and even though it was a little predictable I did enjoy it. 4*.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Relay Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first in a series. This is a sad but enjoyable book. I felt bad for Ellery. Patrick is a Navy Seal and wants to control everything. Not happening!! Imogen is an unexpected surprise. 3.5 stars

Patrick is a Navy SEAL who is home between missions when he discovers his ex-fling has abandoned their six-year-old daughter to foster care. Ellery's kindergarten teacher adores the child and as she is awaiting to testify against some bad guys, decides to marry the SEAL to help him raise his child and for her own protection.

This is a quick, fun read but the story feels a little disjointed. I couldn't understand why two strangers would jump into a relationship the way that they did. That being said, it was a fun read.

Trope is marriage of convenience. I received an ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Heartwarming romance between a navy seal and teacher. I like the way Imogen helps Patrick become a father to his daughter. Lots of different themes running through this book, which keeps your interest

The SEAL's Convenient Wife is a quick read and a decent story, as long as you don't think too much about all the weird gaps. 2.5/5

Patrick is a Navy SEAL, home between missions. He discovers his ex-fling has abandoned their six-year-old daughter to foster care. CPS is now involved, and they aren't too convinced that he's good father material. Enter Imogen, Ellery's kindergarten teacher, who also happens to be ineptly hiding from some bad guys. She's just waiting to testify, so she figures she'll marry Patrick and help him with Ellery. He's on board with the idea because he knows he can keep her safe, being a SEAL and all that. Also, a dog.

The story reads like a mashup of two entirely different stories that really didn't go together. (As I understand it, Leslie North is a pseudonym for a co-authored work, so perhaps that makes sense.) The How to be a Dad story had enough material to stand on its own. The Kindergarten Teacher/Material Witness story perhaps less, but it had potential. As it is, it's just...odd.

That said, it's not awful. It's a fast and relatively fun read.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!

First in this newest Leslie North series. A SEAL returns home to find his daughter in foster care and the story escalates from there. Interesting read, there is romance, steam, drama, angst and humor. A good read, add to your TBR list.

Imogen a kindergarten teacher in witness protection, and Patrick a Navy Seal who returns from active duty to find his daughter abandoned by her mother and in foster care, decide to get married for a year, so he can get his daughter back and also protect Imogen from her harasser. They work together and feelings develop, but Imogen gets kidnapped and after the rescue and trial is expecting to get divorced, but this is a Leslie North story, so we do get a happy ending
Great characters and plot, just what you expect from this author. Looking forward to the next in series.

I received an advanced reader's copy of The SEAL’s Convenient Wife (Hartsville's SEAL Heroes #1) by Leslie North from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Since I had read a book by Leslie North previously, I was hopeful that this novel would be as enjoyable as the others. Happily, it was!

The Good: The story was a quick, easy read, plus the characters were well written. I quite liked the dynamic between our main characters, kindergarten teacher Imogen Mendel and Navy SEAL Patrick Nelson. The dialogue between them was entertaining and their chemistry was readily apparent.

Overall, I though this novel was fun and I look forward to the next in the series.

The SEAL's Convenient Wife is the first novel in Leslie North's new Hartsville’s SEAL Heroes series, and while I generally love marriage of convenience romances, and while this was a one-sitting read, it simply didn't grab me the way I had hoped it would. It wasn't a bad read, but it wasn't a great one either, and that's the reason for my 3-star rating.

The plot is a familiar one--Navy SEAL Patrick Nelson returns home after a long deployment and his first stop is his daughter, Ellery's , grade school because he wants to surprise her, but the surprise is on him. She's not there. Since it had been a field day, the students had been let out 2 hours earlier, but the real surprise is what he learns from her very attractive teacher, Imogen Mendel. Patrick is shocked to learn that he's not even listed as approved to remove his daughter from school, or even listed as being in his daughter's life, but then comes the real shocker--his daughter is now in foster care, having been abandoned by her birth mother, who left her with a nanny, who received no pay or had a way to support her, so she turned Ellery over to Child Protective Services, and the agency placed her in foster care.

Patrick wants and needs to get her back, but how? He has no experience with raising a 6-year-old daughter, especially one whose behavior has been less than stellar--she's prone to temper tantrums, and what child abandoned by her parents wouldn't have emotional issues? But Imogen seems to know how to deal with Ellery, and she and Patrick agree to a one-year marriage of convenience, during which time she can teach Patrick the parenting skills he needs to learn, and also help him get past the every 3-months CPS evaluations he'll need to pass before CPS will give him custody of his child, not to mention he still has to track down his ex-girlfriend, Ellery's mother , and convince her to give up her parental rights to Ellery. As if that wasn't enough, Imogen is keeping a closely guarded secret, which might up-end Patrick's plan and also put Imogen in danger.

Among my main issues with this novel is the lack of character development. Patrick seems nearly as clueless by the end of the novel as he did at the beginning. The expected romance between Imogen and Patrick seemed to come out of left field, since they really had very little in common except for being physically attracted to one another. When they act on their attraction and agree to have a physical relationship, the expected heat level wasn't very hot. Finally, when the suspense ratchet's up, when it should have been harrowing, it all seemed rather flat and mundane.

All in all, it's a well-written story, but low on heat, low on suspense, and rather slow-moving, with nothing endearing about either of the main characters. If you're a fan of this author, you'll probably like it more than I did.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Patrick is what I come to think of when I think of a military father after a split form the mom. He's totally left out of the loop. His problem was trusting the mom to do the right thing. Imogen is so patient with Patrick and his daughter Ellery. I love his daughters name, so pretty.
