Lady Meg Winters is one of four innocent young women with the same scandal breaking over them. Her father has his idea of how to solve her problem and protect her reputation, but she doesn't agree. She is going do things her way, with the help of an old friend and her twin sister.
Captain Lord Harry De Vere is back from the war against Napoleon. He was wounded and has a task to perform for a dead comrade, but gets delayed by an old friend.
This is the last book in a series of four and if you are reading the full series, it should be read in order. You could read each book on it's own and thoroughly enjoy them, but the dastardly villian works his way through each story, getting more dangerous as he goes. There is much more to this story than just that villian. Our heroine has a very hectic, but strangely enjoyable few weeks to get through. Our hero faces many challenges not the least of these battling his own desires.
Wonderful characters on a fun-filled adventure.
I loved it.
Lady Meg Winter rushes home to her father the Duke of to avoid a breaking scandal. Her parents only see one out of the scandal and that’s to marry her to her longtime and confidant Lord Harry de Vere. Meg has a plan and she convince Harry run away together to her sisters and her house party. Harry has always loved Meg, but she’s not yet come to realize her perfect husband is also her best friend. Harry doesn’t want a forced marriage, he wants Meg to choose him so he goes along with her plans. The best plans go awry and there’s more at stake than they realize, there’s a traitor in the mist the puppet master, Lord Barden, the architect of the scandal that was supposed to ruin four innocent young women. A captivating read to see them fall in love, solve the mystery, catch the traitor and Lord Barden in the end. I have voluntarily read and reviewed this wonderful story.
Mary Lancaster is a fairly new author to me; this being the second of her books for me. Reading the description intrigued me even though this ARC, Unmasked by Her Lover, was the fourth in the Season of Scandal series. The synopsis pulled me in, and I so enjoyed the final in the series that I want to go back and read the first three books.
The twin aspect reminded me of the very old Patty Duke Show with Meg trying to play herself and her twin Martha. Loved it. I, also, loved Harry, who is adorable as a love-sick, young man. He approaches life from a military perspective of observation, planning and strategy to reach his goals.
There are several goals Harry plans out quite well, with the help of others in the book and includes characters from the earlier books to protect and defend from the original scandal. The plot and subplots are nicely done. The slight sensual nature of the book adds to the relationship between Harry and Meg.
You will love Meg’s journey as she realizes Harry really is the only one for her. And, you will appreciate how the subplots and secondary characters revolve around our H/h as all is repaired.
SCANDAL ORGY AT C PALACE
Lady Mary Winter has fled London to her twin sister's home. Lord Captain Harry de Vere won't let her travel alone, so he follows.
To save her reputation from the London scandal, her father wants her to marry Harry. Mary won't marry her childhood friend if her father forces him to ask. Only if Harry loves her and asks on his own, without her father's influence, will she say yes. Scandal, a villain, spies for France and a clue to a traitor all come to a head at a masquerade ball. I'm just wild about Harry.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Meg is trapped in a scandal that only her friend Harry can help her out of. Harry is a returned war hero that finds himself embroiled in more than just Meg’s scandal. I was able to appreciate Meg and Harry’s story just fine. However, things got a bit confusing at the ball at the end as to whom the other characters were since I had not read the previous three books in the series. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
Scandal, Subterfuge, Hot Men, & Sexy Women this is the book to give you a few hours of relaxing enjoyment from your daily cares! Author Mary Lancaster has written a stand-alone, but it is also the resolution of the Scandal of the Season Series! If you haven’t read this series don’t make haste, go back and revel in a fantabulous Read!
In this particular book, Lady Meg finds herself being coerced by her parents into being betrothed to her childhood friend, Captain Lord Harry. She already turned him down once in her childish teen years and he went off to become a hero for the Crown. Not only is she refusing this edict from her parents, but he is as well.
She decides she wants to make amends with her twin sister, Martha and Harry is to escort her to the estate. Things are going going to heat up, but will it be between these two souls or at the sisters home?
Read the book because fireworks are about to begin because we are going to have missing people, extra people, and a duel you will not believe!
The characters are strong and fun and the book moves slowly in some areas, but it is not slow enough to make you put it down!
I would definitely recommend this book!
I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

This has been such a good series, I’ve been hooked since the beginning.
Set in the Royal court , the destinies of a group of the Princesses hand maidens is changed forever by a mean and devious Lord Barden.
This is the final book and holds the attention I think more than the others , especially as matters come to a head.
Fun , passion and intrigue are to be had, as all the ladies come back together to give the gent his comeuppance.
If you’ve read the previous books, don’t miss this.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
This is the last book in the season of scandal series.
It is a thrilling conclusion to the series. Harry and Meg make a perfect couple and we revisit the other couples in this series.
Mary Lancaster tells a excellent tale.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily.
4 stars
A fitting end to a great series. As many of the characters from books 1-3 return its less of a stand alone but still really enjoyable. Meg is the last debutante affected by Lord Barden's staged ruin and in this book he gets his comeupance.
There were elements of farce as Meg has to play both herself and her twin sister, there are elements of intrigue with spy's looking for information and villains trying to find and destroy evidence. It takes Meg a long time to realise that the hero, Harry is serious in his affection and I was pleased when all was resolved.
The only unanswered question was did the villain's valet get paid?
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this final book in the Season of Scandal series. While it can be read as as standalone, it would be better to read the series in order.
The plot was more driven more by intrigue than emotion. The characters were engaging and fun. I hope to see some of their family members in a new series.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received.
Disclaimer: I got this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Are you a fan of Reign or Bridgerton? If yes, then you're going to adore Lady Meg's story. I was in a mood for a book like this after I finished binge-watching Bridgerton. I definitely want to read more of Mary Lancaster's books if Mary writes another series.
The conclusion to the Season of Scandal series, this was a satisfying read, in that we learn the fate of the final lady in waiting, Lady Meg, and we also see the dastardly Lord Barden get his comeuppance.
When Meg finally makes it home, her parents are already poring over the scandal sheet that has been delivered to them where her being compromised at a bacchanal that took place in Queen Charlotte's residence. Unbeknownst to Meg and her three friends, Hazel, Juliet, and Deborah, who locked themselves safely away in a room, Queen Charlotte was not there, so they were unchaperoned.
Meg's parents, the Duke and Duchess of Dearham want her to marry the second son, Harry De Vere, who had been in love with her, just before he went off to fight in France five years ago. he has been injured in the fighting, and now mostly recovered has returned to England. He has already been summoned by the duke. Meg is reluctant to marry, recovered from her infatuation with Lord Calvert, now married to her twin sister Martha, she is ashamed of her behaviour five years ago, and has no desire to entrap Harry. At that time, sixteen year old Meg had been best friends with Harry and just sixteen, scared of her changing feelings, and imagining herself in love with Calvert, she had rejected Harry's feelings for her, and as the daughter of a duke, her parents also felt she could do better.
Meg intercepts Harry and convinces him to spirit her away to her sister's where she can pretend she has been for a few days before the planned house party starts, and thwart the scandal mongers.
Of course as they set off, their true feelings start to reassert themselves, but Meg is determined not to force Harry into anything, however as they tend to, unexpected things happen, they break a wheel and have to stay overnight at an inn, they bump into a fellow soldier and his wife, also heading to the party. Meg starts to realise her feeling for Harry on the journey. When they finally arrive at her sister's house, Lord Calvert tells them that her sister is missing, and convinces Meg to masquerade at Martha, and host the house party, while he heads to London to try and find her.
Can Meg sustain the masquerade, and thwart Lord Barden. As Meg and Harry try to solve the mystery of missing Martha, and invite Hazel and Joseph, Juliet and Dan and Deborah and Christopher to help unmask Lord Barden, can Lord Calvery see the error of his ways, and can Harry and Meg get their own HEA?
The main characters were delightful, Meg, openhearted, yet practical, wanting to help everyone, learning to understand and see herself more clearly, and being brave enough to face her feelings for
Harry at last. Her presence of mind and skill at impersonating Martha, and facing up to Lord Barden. Harry was also delightful, determined, engaging, brave and loving.
It was a fabulous end to a lovely series, and the epilogue was just lovely.
Highly recommended.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book an al opinions are my own.
Lord Barden's plot has been thwarted 3 times now,
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
The final lady in waiting to the Princess of Wales, Lady Meg Winter knows that the scandal she and her fellow ladies are facing could ruin her whole family. As the unmarried daughter of the Duke of Dearham, being implicated in a scandalous orgy is the worst thing imaginable. Her parents plan to marry her off to her childhood friend, Captain Lord Harry de Vere, who once asked to marry her, but was refused for being the younger son. Now a noted war hero, he's a respectable choice when there aren't many left, but Meg won't do that to Harry. No, instead she asks Harry to help her flee to her sister's estate in the country, and put out that she was never at the Palace, but has been with Martha the entire time. However, when they eventually arrive, it's clear that Martha is missing, in the middle of a house party she had planned, and now Meg's brother in law is begging her to masquerade as her twin sister so no one is the wiser. Will Meg be able to weather the storm, and help save her sister's marriage, all while serving Barden the just reward he so desperately deserves?
I have really enjoyed all of the books in this series, and was desperate to see how the sorry saga all four ladies found themselves in was finally dealt with. Meg was a lovely main character, who was well placed in society as the daughter of a duke, but she never wanted to marry, and had always been more at home with her family and friends, like Harry, making plans and messing around, rather than settling down. When Harry left to go fight on the continent, she was heartbroken, but even then she didn't understand her feelings were anything more than friendship for her oldest friend. Now that he's returned, injured but alive, and seemingly will be forced to marry her imminently, she will do anything to ensure he isn't forced against his will, and instead decides to go along with Calvert's harebrained scheme of masquerading as her twin, Martha. I loved her strength and sheer will to help others, not even really thinking of herself. For Harry, he suited Meg so well, and they were made for each other. He, on the other hand, had always loved her, and never forgot her while abroad, so finding himself as her hero was almost a blessing in disguise. Yes, there were a lot of twists and turns, trials and tribulations that got in the way of their happiness, but I loved the conclusion of the book. Seeing all four ladies again, happily in love, and working together to stop Barden once and for all, was amazing, and the epilogue was just that added bonus that nicely tied the whole series up. A perfect ending to such an enjoyable series.
