I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide me review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
I love this series. Each book gives me more and more about the characters. Great plot, great writing. Best read in the daylight unless you're really brave.
Reading Between the Wines book review #103/115 for 2021:
Rating: 4 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 🎧: Cry For Help
Author: Wendy Dranfield
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASED on February 22, 2021!!!
Sipping thoughts: I love Detective Madison Harper and this book did not let me down. I love how you find out more about her background, family, and childhood. Evil is so prevalent in Lost Creek and you never know who to trust. When a teenager is found dead and it looks to be a suicide, Detective Harper has to help the same police officers who may have set her up and arrested her years prior. I cannot wait to read the 3rd installment, Little Girl Taken.
Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @Wendy_Dranfield and @Bookouture for an advanced copy of @CryForHelp.

Love this book and sure do want to read more by this author. Excellent series, very enjoyable. Can’t wait for the next one.
A fast paced, gritty and highly entertaining thriller that kept me on the edge.
This is the first book I read in this series but it can be read as a stand-alone.
The plot is complex, full of twists and turns, and gripping. I was on the edge and guessing till the end.
The setting and the characters are well developed, I liked Madison as she's a strong character, clever and strong willed.
I will surely read other books in this series.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'Cry For Help' by Wendy Dranfield.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 22nd February 2021
This is the first book I have read by this author and it is also the second book in her 'Detective Madison Harper' series. This book can be read as a standalone.
I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis. It also stated in the synopsis that this book is for fans of Melinda Leigh who I am a MASSIVE fan of so am looking forward to see if it loves up to this. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of a prologue and 72 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in the USA 🇺🇸.
This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Detective Madison Harper, Nate and Detective Mike Bowers. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out on anything.
This books is very well written with vivid descriptions creating the perfect atmosphere for the storyline. The book cover and synopsis works perfectly with the book plot and I am most definitely looking forward to reading the next book, and the previous one in this series.
An addictive and compelling storyline which had many layers of mysteries and crimes for the reader to be kept guessing throughout. Filled with twists, turns, shocks and red herrings throughout I had no idea who did what until the end. This is an achievement in itself as it is definitely getting harder to surprise me with the amount of crime novels I've read. The plot was unique and realistic. It started straight in the action and kept you going on a roller-coaster ride of suspension throughout. The timeline jumped from present to past at just the right times slowly drip feeding the reader information on what happened in just the right amount.
I loved the fact that the main lead was such a strong female with alot of background and yet having gone through so much and still going through so much Madison still didn't back down!! I cannot wait to read what happens next with her. I also enjoyed Nates character but of course being an animal lover my favourite has to be Brody!!! All the characters were strong and well defined. I was shocked by some of them and nicely surprised by others. I am looking forward to seeing if anything happens between Nate and Madison. I enjoyed that the author gave just the right amount of background information on the characters to let us know about them for it to be a standalone but not too much so if you've read the first book your not going over the same information too much.
Overall a pulse racing, addictive page turning crime thriller thay will keep you on edge.
Genres covered in this novel include Crime, Police Procedural, Crime Thriller and Mystery amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Melissa Leigh, Angela Marsons, C. L Taylor, Carol Wyer and anyone looking for a great new series.
339 pages.
This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!
Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I enjoyed the first in this series earlier this year and as I know the third is coming out soon; I thought I'd better catch up with this one.
Madison is heading home to clear her name and find her son, but things get complicated when the body of a teenage girl is found. She and Nate can't leave it unsolved, but the case quickly gets personal for Madison.
Cry For Help is one of those books that grabs you from the very beginning, getting more and more taut with tension building to a satisfying and action packed ending.
This book had so many little shocks and surprises along the way, which I didn't see coming and absolutely loved!
I really enjoyed getting the full story of Madison's arrest and more bits and pieces from her past, something I felt was missing from the first book. Of course that meant Nate sort of took a back seat for most of the book but I think it worked out well and I wonder what Wendy Dranfield will do next with these characters.
I absolutely flew through the first half of this book but for some reason I found the second half a little more slow going, maybe it's just I didn't want it to end!
Cry For Help is a fast-paced and addictive read and I can't wait to read more from this series!
Another Brilliant installment of this gripping series, I'm so glad I started these books they are so good and I'm glad to say I have the next book ready to go. The book follows on from the first one in which Madison and Nate have arrived in Lost Creek to find Madison's son. Lots of twists and turns throughout makes this another really good read.
Cry for help by Wendy Dranfield.
Book 2 of Detective Madison Harper series.
A brilliant read that I didn't want to put down. I didn't want it to end either. Nate and Madison was my favourite characters. I wasn't sure about Douglas at first. I definitely didn't like Angie or Wyatt. I'm looking forward to the next book. 5*.
This is the second book in the Detective Madison Harper series, following on from Book 1 “Shadow Falls”, we see Harper & Nate return to Madison’s home town Lost Creek, Colorado where she served as a Detective, in an attempt to clear her name and get custody of her son back. Not everyone is pleased to see Madison after she was arrested and served 6 years in prison for the murder of officer Ryan Levy.
This was another fast paced addictive thriller with suspense and twists plentiful in a town full of corruption and deceit. I could not put this down and am moving swiftly on to No. 3 “Little Girl Taken”, cannot wait, I love when I have the next one lined up to see where the characters and events take us next. Highly recommend this as a series.
This was a cracking book by the author. Though book 2, I vaguely remembered book 1, so this worked well as a standalone. Madison along with her partner Nate worked the case of the alleged suicide of a teen along with Madison working on another case that involved the carer of her son. With dual subplots, it was fun to read the author writing both in the same fervor, making Madison a wholesome likable character who had had some hard knocks in life. I liked her doggedness and persistence to bring every case to a close. Quite a few red herrings, the story had many twists that made it thrilling.
Cry For Help by Wendy Dranfield
Shivering in the early morning chill, the caretaker flips the switch on the Ferris Wheel and stumbles back in shock.. The teenage girl’s body is slumped in a halo of pretty colored lights, her eyes fixed forever on her dangling feet.
Wow! What’s a book. Filled up to the brim with blood, murder, corruption, and bad cops! Filled with intrigues NDA some messed up characters! I recommend this book.
Thanks to Net Galley for sending me an advanced reader’s copy for my review.
I love this series. I definitely recommend reading it in order to understand Madison and Nate’s relationship as well as both of their pasts and why they are both so distrusting. I love a crime thriller and this is such an interesting twist on the detective novel. I need more from this duo asap. This book is packed full of suspense and drama and I had no idea who could be trusted or where it was going. The action packed ending had me on the edge of my seat and feeling a whole host of emotions. Highly recommend checking out this series
I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
The action seamlessly picks up where the first book left off. I thought the author did a great job of building the tension, starting with the initial scene. She writes with such description that I could absolutely picture it all, almost like I was watching it on television. It was that vivid. She has also developed the characters well. This plot seemed heavier on the personal and less on the detecting than the first one. Regardless, the author knows when to stop a chapter so that there is a natural desire to want to keep reading. Read the first one so you have a better background on the characters. It will be more enjoyable. For a detailed review, please visit Fireflies and Free Kicks. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a digital ARC of the book.
Cry For Help is a very well written and entertaining thriller. The plot is a real edge of your seat page turner. Could not put this book down.
This had me up a few late nights I was absorbed and just couldn't put it down, this is the second book in the series (although I haven't read the first). As with most series it can be read as a stand alone as there was alot of recapping on previous events but having read this and being enthralled by the read is encourage you to read the first.
Madison returns to her home town with her friend and boss Nate and ex police dog Brody were she was a detective after serving time for the manslaughter of her colleague that she didn't commit to clear her name and find her son. It's clear to see not everyone is thrilled by her return.
Nate clearly has his own passed which I believe is told in book one so you get glimpses into his life this is more focused around his plight.
A book full of violence, corruption, deceit, jealousy, highly addictive going on my top reads that's for sure.
This is book two with Detective Madison Harper and is a great read expanding on the characters we met in book one.
Can’t wait for book three.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Cry for Help picks up the story where Shadow Falls ended, with Madison and Nate heading back to Lost Creek after hearing the news that Madison’s ex-girlfriend has been killed.
Having already agreed to help Madison find her son, Owen, Nate understands the new urgency and is 100% willing to get justice for Madison’s wrongful conviction and to find the corrupt cops who framed her. His hatred for the police has only intensified since meeting Madison, and since he has no new information on Father O’Connor who set him up for his fiancée’s murder, he is more than happy to expose police corruption while he waits.
As the two of them, along with former K9 dog, Brody, make their way there, local police are dealing with the death of a teenage girl at the amusement park – first indications suggest suicide but a link between this case and the murder of Madison ex-girlfriend can’t be ignored. After all, two suspicious deaths in a small town like Lost Creek is more than a coincidence.
Once again, the author has created a story with characters you can’t help but care about. Putting aside Nate and Madison (whose history and relationship develop beautifully throughout), the story of the teenage girl – Nikki Jackson – is heartbreakingly sad and written with great compassion and empathy.
That said, the villains are appallingly vile too. As the truth about her ex’s murder becomes known, Madison is forced to face the cruel reality of her relationship with her own sister as well as with some of her former colleagues in the police force.
Clearing her name, finding her girlfriend’s killer and tracking down Owen all combine into one monumental challenge, and the author doesn’t give in to Madison’s demands easily. She really makes her and Nate work for the truth. All of which makes it compelling reading.
A certain scene with flies buzzing around a dead animal had me worried. Surely no one would hurt Brody? Was I more concerned about the dog than catching the killers? Probably 😉 Nonetheless, this made it even more of a page turner.
Another excellent story that ticks so many genre boxes – drama, crime, thriller and suspense – yet holds together as a cohesive whole. And, I’m even more delighted to hear that book three is not far off and Nate’s own story will be further explored and hopefully concluded.
This is the second instalment featuring former Detective Madison Harper.
The book opens with a prologue from 2012 when Madison was arrested for the murder of fellow officer Ryan Levy. An arrest that saw her imprisoned for six years.
Now in 2019, Madison returns home to Lost Creek, Colorado with unlicensed private investigator Nate Monroe in an effort to uncover who framed her for the murder, which also resulted in her being separated from her son who she is desperate to find. Madison is also searching for the truth behind the murder of her ex-girlfriend Stephanie. As if this isn’t enough to be dealing with, the pair also become involved when the body of a local teenage girl is discovered in what looks to be a tragic suicide.
This was a fast-paced thriller filled with suspense and twists. This title could be read as a stand-alone, although I would highly recommend the first book – Shadow Falls - which was an excellent read. Highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys the mystery and thriller genre.
Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the review copy.
