This is a heartwarming and emotional romance that is a perfect fit for readers who enjoy stories about second chances, healing, and the power of love to mend broken hearts and souls, set against the picturesque backdrop of a small town in California.
Enjoyable read, though I liked the town and its intricacies and the big cast more than the main focus romance itself. There was something a bit 'lacking' between the main protagonists, like they had to fall in love because they were the couple slotted for this book, but the story in and around them is a nice one, though, and makes for a pleasant few hours' read
Choosing you by Stacy Finz did not work for me. I read it ages ago but it was slow moving and I was not able to finish it early on due to lack of interest. The romance part did not work for me that time even though I wanted to like the book.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing me the chance to read and review. It was a one star due to not being able to finish and because I do have to rate here.
This is a sweet, small town book that’s part of a series. Nugget CA embraces all its new residents, in this case a widow and her severely injured son. The come to Nugget to get help from an extraordinary orthopedic surgeon.
Blurb:
Picturesque Nugget, California, couldn’t be more different than the glittering caverns of Manhattan, but Brynn Barnes is grateful for the change. After the accident that took her husband’s life and seriously injured her young son Henry’s legs, a clinical trial from a pioneering young doctor offers Brynn hope that Henry may walk again. And even as the magnificent landscape and the town’s hospitality help mend Brynn’s broken spirit, it’s a certain handsome surgeon’s compassion that soothes her aching heart. Reeling after a bitter divorce, Ethan Daniels has brought his medical practice and his young daughter to Nugget, where he hopes its homey warmth will ease the transition to a family of two. A new relationship is the last thing he should be thinking about. But Ethan can’t help his immediate attraction to beautiful Brynn—or the feelings she’s awakening in him. For two people battered by life’s cruelest blows, love may be the perfect prescription.
I liked this book, the main characters had great chemistry. I’d like to read the other Nugget books now. 4 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This was such a fun and cute romance, I really enjoyed following these characters throughout the book and seeing their connection grow! I loved the writing style and really think this was a pleasant time.
Didnt know this was a series, which means I shall go back and read all the others!
Cute slow burn romance perfect for a cozy night in!
This is a slow burn romance, and this is the 11th book of the Nugget series. I cannot say how much I love the characters in this book. The main characters as overcome so much, and that made me love them even more. The side story was almost better then the romance in this book, but I really loved the side story. The romance really did not happen until around half way through the book, but once the main characters got together the romance was hot and fast. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Kensington Books) or author (Stacy Finz) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
A great group of characters that you can’t help rooting for. Will definitely be looking for more by this author.
It was a great story, very emotional, and heartfelt. Great characters, great kids! I really liked the romance. There is not much I didn't like. I love this series.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest review. When I originally started this book, I felt a little let down...my fault, entirely because I chose this book based on the cover alone and didn't even read what it was about. But a dog, a suitcase, and a truck heading to the mountains...where was the dog?? Did I miss it or am I forgetting it and it was there the whole time? Anyway, I grew to love the book and all of the characters that were in it. This was a group of people that you really feel you know by the end of the book and you root for each one throughout...I am not sure if Nugget itself is a real place or based on a real place but I fell in love with that place... so I will definitely be reading more books from this author so I can head back any time I want to.
Choosing You by Stacy Finz is a contemporary romance, and part of the Nugget series. I have not read the previous books, and while it takes place n a small town and it is clear that characters will pop up repeatedly in the series, it seems like each can be enjoyed on their own as well. Choosing You is a sweet romance with a sprinkle of heat.
I absolutely loved the setting of this book! The relationship between Ethan and Brynn was perfect and you couldn’t help but root for their relationship. Henry and Roni added nicely to the story and all the extra characters from Nugget were great as well. Thank you for the opportunity to read this!
Choosing You was the first book of Stacy that i've read.
It's a cute romantic story, with good charathers and a nice and soft plot. It's the best option for the summer days :)
Absolute perfection! This is exactly what I needed! I love a good romance and this one deirvered! I can’t wait to read the second one!
While I have read and enjoyed other books by the author, I had not been to Nugget, so read this as a stand alone. While abundant characters from previous books where there, it was not difficult to follow the story. Nugget seems to be a wonderful little town with lovely town folk, who I plan to get to know by reading the previous books.
Ethan Daniels is a top orthopedic pediatric surgeon, working with experimental treatment using stem cells from bone tissue to repair severe bone damage and deformities. He is also a cowboy, growing up on a ranch near Reno, Nevada and another in Nugget, California. After divorcing his wife, and getting sole custody, he moved his daughter and step mother to Nugget, close to Renown Children's Hospital, where he works.
Widow Byrnn Barnes's son, Henry was severely injured in an accident, in which his father Mason had died. Byrnn, managed to get him into the clinical trials that Dr Daniels is performing. Ethan had built a small cottage on his ranch, for patients to stay if there was no room in Reno, sort of like a mini McDonald's house. It is offered to Brynn and Henry, since they live in Manhattan. Henry immediately forms a friendship with Ethan's daughter Roni, but Ethan and Byrnn also form a quick attachment, which they unsuccessfully try to fight. Love is in the air, but once the study is over, Byrnn and Henry need to return to their life in Manhattan, where Byrnn is the owner of a top advertising firm. To complicate matters more, Ethan's ex has cleaned up her act and wants her daughter and husband back.
Despite having grown up in the 60s, I never understood then or since the ease that people become intimate without really knowing each other. While both Brynn and Ethan's marriages had failed, and they aren't looking for a replacement, to have unprotected sex without even having gone on a date, is irresponsible.
I read an ARC from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
This is my first read by Stacy Finz. Even though this is not the first in the series, this book was truly a standalone and I did not feel lost in the story. The story was cute and heart wrenching at the same time. I had a hard time with the power dynamic between doctor and patient’s mother. I enjoyed that the characters were older and more mature! I felt that both Brynn and Ethan were well thought out characters but I personally did not connect with them as a couple. I loved the side characters and the town. I am excited to read the other books in this series!
Despite being the 11th book in a series, this is my first read by Stacy Finz. I am normally adamant about reading in order but in this case, I don’t feel I lost out on the story though I’m sure I would have known the side characters better.
Despite the cute cover, this is a book with a decent amount of angst and two damaged characters. I won’t lie, the story was a bit boring and I didn’t connect well with the characters. I didn’t dislike the book at all but it felt a little flat. Maybe I just didn’t care for the storyline? I’m not sure but I’m in the fence of recommending this book. I’m sure if you’ve enjoyed this author, this will be great.
Otherwise, if you like to read about more mature characters then you may enjoy this as well. Just be prepared for a slower paced, though sweet romance.
Choosing You is the eleventh book in the Nugget Series and was fine reading as a stand-alone. It was a slow burn romance, and I was instantly drawn in by the warm-hearted characters and the town of Nugget. The book was beautifully written and the plot of the story and the characters seemed real-life and genuine.
Recently divorced Ethan Daniels and his six-year-old daughter, Roni, had moved from the city to the small town of Nugget, CA. His work as a children’s orthopedic surgeon doing clinical trials with stem cells repairing bone fractures was world-renowned. Ethan knew he had to keep the relationship between himself and Brynn strictly professional as her son’s physician.
Brynn Barnes’s husband had died eight months prior in an all-terrain vehicle accident which also left her son Henry severely injured and unable to walk. Henry had been referred to be a part of Ethan’s clinical trials, so Brynn and Henry left Manhattan to stay in Nugget. She wanted Henry to heal and be able to do everything he wanted to do and hoped this treatment would work.
The relationship between Brynn and Ethan was slow-burning. They knew they lead different lives with successful careers and Brynn would eventually return to Manhattan but that did not stop their love from growing for each other. This was an amazing book and left me smiling at the end. I look forward to reading more amazing books from this charming small-town.
This was my first time reading Finz. I really like small town and the trope of doctor helping a child in need. 100% a me thing, but this works much better for me when there is a power imbalance. I don't know why, but I like what I like. LOL. Also, I was concerned at how the ex-wife was being portrayed as an "addict". I will try to give her book a read though because I love the redemption of a unlikeable woman.
I really enjoyed this book! It is my first book by this author and it will not be the last. I loved Brynn, Ethan, and the setting of this book. I definitely recommend it!
