This book has sweet and cute moments. And hot vibes. But that is all. I don't really like this type of romances. He loves her forever and she is marrying his best friend... And they sleep together... No,no...
Just 3 stars.

Were there funny moments in this novel? Sweet ones? Sexy ones? Yes. Still...I had a hard time getting over the main premise of this couple. He's loved her forever, but never said anything. She was engaged to his BEST FRIEND. Here comes some spoilery stuff, but honestly, this all happens in the first few pages. They sleep together the night before the wedding, which wouldn't be a total deal-breaker for me, but she was drunk. He knew she had been drinking, and he still slept with her. After that, I just couldn't really get into the two of them as soulmates. It's true that later on in the book ***SPOILER***she admits that she knew who she was sleeping with, but it's too little. too late.

The story of Alex and Ellie.
He has been in love with her for years, and althought everyone else seems to realise this, has Ellie? Will he have his chance with her now she is newly single, or has he ruined everything?

I'm a sucker for a good romance story

I really enjoyed this book! I don't know why, but it didn't feel like a run of the mill rom com to me. I'm guessing it's because of the format? I'm not sure, but I do know that I really enjoyed it!

First of all, the characters. So lovable. So funny. So sweet. So understanding! These are the most understanding characters I've ever seen! All the characters were so much fun to learn about and to go along with in their journey. They all acted so naturally and were written so well. The dialogue was the best part, you could hear the characters having conversations as if they were right beside you.

I'm so beyond excited to continue this series and the development of the different characters!

Give this book a read if you want some sweetness in your life, and maybe even a little steam!

DNF at 45%.

When you can't stand either of the main characters and nothing seems to be happening then you know it's time to bail!

This kind of starts off well. we are at a wedding and Alex Brennan is nervous, does he have the bottle to do 'it'? He must, but will everyone hate him? What will she say? He can't bear it? If that is irritating you then I suggest you avoid this book. Alex is wetter than a wet weekend in the Partry Mountains (which google tells me is the wettest part of Galway), he is the sort of person who walks back and forth wringing their hands and never doing anything. In fact the book is written just like the blurb for this book always talking round and round in circles, never coming to a point, always harking back to some vague thing in the past where 'something' happened.

Frankly, I got nearly halfway through the book and I was bored rigid. I have 40 other books on my Kindle to read and I can't waste my time with drippy Alex. Also, this is supposedly set in Ireland, but other than the obligatory pints of Guinness (which hello can be drunk all over the world) and the fact that Alex and Ellie work in a whisky distillery (also all over the world) and the odd Gaelic word it could be set anywhere. In fact I was shocked to discover it was set in Ireland as I had imagined it was set in the US. Now I hate books that are dripping in brogue for the sake of it which is why I rarely read any books featuring a man in a kilt on the cover, but to have absolutely no Irish language markers at all? No mam? No sure or grand? No feck?

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

3.5 Stars!

I enjoyed the first half of the story, because for one, it was written mostly on the hero's POV. The hero wasn't some hot guy that plays around and he was in love with his best friend.

Some may find the hero coward or lack bones to speak up how he feels but somehow, the writings made me believe that he was just that type of person. He's sweet and think of others first than himself.

The daily struggle of Alex tugs my heart. At least, for the first half... his fears, disappointments and love towards Ellie was just hard.

Sadly, once everything was brought out to light, I find it too cheesy to my liking. I'm more into angst filled reads so probably, it's just me.

I'm a bit disappointed for not getting a longer glimpse with regards to Alex and Ellie's relationship during their younger days. How they became the best of friends, when does Alex's feelings starts to bloom and vice versa. His struggle to cover his feelings, her denial or longing or anything that'll led us to believe their strong love.

Oftentimes, I felt like being told that Alex really love Ellie very much, so the reality that Ellie was unaware of it was not believable. The whole town actually knows, except for Ellie. How naive/numb/ stupid can she be? I mean, even Justin knows. 🙄

A book that starts out with the best man announcing he slept with the bride the night before the wedding doesn't usually end up being about the love story between the bride and the best man. This book definitely takes the left at the altar trope and turns it on its head. With a lifelong love story between the bride and the best-man and some seriously emotional family moments along the way. Alex has been in love with Ellie for 30 years (since he was 6 years old). They've been best friends and he supported her through everything. He never asked her to stay when she left their small town to find her own way and go to college - but he never stopped loving her or waiting for her. The night before Ellie is set to marry Alex's former best-friend Chase, he and Ellie have sex (Ellie was not 100% sober at the time) - Alex chooses to interrupt the ceremony and tell everyone what happened. Not his finest moment.

From there on out - the story is really about Ellie and Alex finding their way to each other. With the meddling help of their families and friends in their very very small town. It is also about Ellie and Alex finding their in their community and business as well.

I adored reading a story with a totally different take on this trope and where neither of the characters is insanely wealthy or super duper smart or otherwise "special." Alex and Ellie are both normal people who have faced challenging parts of their lives and have to continue to exist in their community. Ultimately, I think this story was really about finding your way home.

There are parts that had me laughing out loud - and several places where I was sobbing (<spoiler> particularly when Justin's mom wants to take him away from Alex and Alex is just crushed</spoiler>). Overall - I really recommend this as a great start to a promising series.

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

I really like this story! It's a really emotional love story between childhood best friends.

We start in the midst of with- Alex stopping Ellie's wedding to his best friend (who's really not). Alex is hopeful that, after sleeping together the night before, she finally returns his feelings. But things are more complicated and there's a lot of hurdles they have to get over.

I liked the dual POVs. We get to know Alex, who's quiet and doesn't want to cause drama, most of all for Ellie. He's not emotionally smart and struggles to show her how she feels, but he's quietly loving and dependable. I love it when it's the guy who has been pinning for the girl for forever. He's also an A+ dad.
Ellie is strong headed and independent. It was great to see her open up to Alex and seeing a future with him.

His book is an emotional journey that I got invested in really quickly. And though sometimes too cheesy for my taste, I really enjoyed the story.

Now, I can't not get over the age difference (6 years). I just kind of ignored it while I was reading because the thought of a 21 y/o in love with a 15 y/o is just creepy. And the idea that with that age difference they would have been friends and played together is just not believable. (In my head he's just 2 years older)

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for anyone looking for an emotional romance between friends.

Thanks to netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with this ARC.

This book started off pretty crazy, so I thought it was going to be a fun read. Unfortunately for me, it lost most of it's steam. I loved the friends to lovers theme. I loved that they were best friends most of their lives I loved that he stopped her wedding and her from making a huge mistake. But, he wasn't perfect. Took a little long to get where he needed to be.

A friends to lover story. Alex has been in love with his best friend Ellie for the longest time. Unfortunately, she is now engaged to his other best friend. Alex is great... Totally devoted to Ellie... even at the cost of his happiness... A sweet and touching romance. :)
