This book is one I still think about, after having read it several months ago! The characters, the atmosphere, the emotions....all were so real and engaging. The story is heartbreaking, but not without hope and was presented in such a way that made you feel like you were a part of the story. I would definitely be interested in reading more from this author!
Great read by author Sadeqa Johnson. I featured Yellow a wife as book of the day across all my Black Fiction Addiction social media channels and interviewed the author for my Black Fiction Addiction blog.
The Yellow Wife was a wonderful book that's based on true events. It's a powerful story that is not sugar coated and makes you face the brutality that slaves had to endure. That's not to say that it's graphic, but realistic. I watched an interview with the author and all of the names in the book came from slave ledgers during her research as a way to pay homage to them. It's a very heartwarming book about endurance, courage, and perseverance. If you liked The Underground Railroad or Sing, Unburied Sing, this is a must-read.
