This was a standard cozy which was okay. I would have given it more stars except for a glaring issue in my opinion. Mac’s friend asks her to drive her as she has been driving.. Mac then proceeds to have a “small glass” of wine when she drops her off as she is driving. This was inappropriate and turned me off the character. There was also some need to have two “villains” have drinking problems which is used as a way to vilify them, along with a comment of they are missing some steps (AA).
Very disappointed.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of MURDER AT THE TAFFY SHOP (Book 2 of the Cozy Capers Book Group Mysteries) by Maddie Day in exchange for an honest review. Mackenzie “Mac” Almeida owns a bicycle shop in Cape Cod, her friend Gin owns a nearby taffy shop, and they belong to a book club focusing on cozy mysteries. Beverly Ruchart is a wealthy genealogist who is infamous for her grouchy personality and constant complaints. Gin finds herself invited to a dinner party at Beverly’s. After being thoroughly insulted by her hostess, Gin leaves the party early that evening; the next morning, Gin becomes the prime suspect in Beverly’s murder. Mac, with the help of her book club, investigates the crime in order to save Gin from being arrested for Beverly’s death.

I liked it. Though I skipped the first book in the series, I had no trouble following the story or keeping the characters straight. I recommend this book to fans of cozy mysteries featuring murder, small businesses, and family drama.

Maddie Day writes good cozies and this second book in the Cozy Capers Book Club series is no exception.

There’s a dead body and Mac’s friend Gin is prime suspect number one. Mac, Gin and all their book club friends team up to find out who the murder really is, since they know Gin didn’t. I like Mac’s character and the parrot, Belle, was fantastic.

The characters are great, with a sense of a true friendship. I liked the Cape Cod setting, you could picture the atmosphere well based on the descriptions. The writing style flowed nicely too.

One thing that stuck out to me, negatively, was the poor description of OCD, It was a small scene but it just hit a nerve I guess. That’s really the only thing about this book that I didn’t enjoy.

I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

A new to me series by one of my favorite authors. Definitely an eclectic mix in this story, bikes, book group, candy, genealogy, murder and a Parrott that make this well written mystery very entertaining. I'll be going back and reading book 1.

Murder at the Taffy Shop is a well written cozy mystery that takes place on the shores of a town near Cape Cod. The main character is a bike store owner who lives in a tiny house with her bird Belle. The mystery is solid and you are left with many suspects to weed through. I found the characters very interesting, I especially loved the bird Belle, and found her Amazon interactions hilarious. I enjoyed the writing style and look forward to reading more by the author. It is a fun cozy mystery with a great setting, likable characters, and a fantastic cover, I highly recommend it.

A Body And A Person Of Interest....
The second in the Cozy Capers Book Group series of mysteries and an enjoyable visit to the Cape Cod bicycle shop owner Mac and her mystery book club. Chaos is unleashed with the appearance of a body and, Mac’s friend and taffy shop owner, Gin becomes a person of interest in a murder investigation. A fun, escapist read with well drawn characters and a delightful setting.

Murder at the Taffy Shop by Maddie Day is an advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. MacKenzie Almeida is visiting her parents when a neighbor, Beverly, brings her parent's puppy over. The puppy, Tucker, was for his granddaughter. He had been digging in Beverly's yard. MacKenzie is the owner of Mac's Bikes in a small Cape Cod town of Westham. Mac's best friend is Gin who runs Salty Taffy Candy Shop. Mac and Gin find Beverly dead. 9-1-1 is called.
This book was very entertaining. Maddie Day draws in the reader, making it hard to put the book down. Then the story is over and I want to read more. I can't wait till the next one is out.

This is a new series for me. I have read the other series by this author and enjoyed it. Becuase this was the second in the series, I was sometimes trying to figure out who everyone was and how they fit in. One thing that really irritated me was the attitude several times in the book that Mac was messed up because of her OCD. People kept telling her she could get help to fix it and acting like she was broken instead of accepting her for the way she is. And while it is not usual, there are women out there that do not want children, this dialogue made it seem as if they are all broken for feeling that way. I did think the resolution of the culprit was also a stretch. This book just did not sit well with me.

Mac Almeida is a hometown girl who runs the bike shop in her Coastal town in the Cape Cod area. It’s August and business is hopping as people rent bikes and come in for repairs. When Mac’s best friend, Gin, finds the body of hostess from the dinner she attended the nigh before, Gin becomes a prime suspect. Luckily the book club Gin and Mac belong to are on the case.

Since Beverly was universally unliked, there are quite a few suspects. As Mac and the book club work their way through their list, Mac hopes that none of them gets too close to the murderer and ends up being the next victim before the police can make an arrest.

This is the second book in the series and I had not read the first and there were no gaps. It reads fine as a standalone. I want an African Gray Parrot now as Belle steals the show and is quite the charmer. I’m a big Maddie Day fan, and not sure why I missed the first book in this series, but am glad I finally got caught up. Maddie is a superb story teller and you can smell the salty air as you become completely immersed in the story. You NEVER go wrong with a book by Maddie Day!

I’m becoming attached to this series and the great characters that author Maddie Day has created.
Mac Almeida is a solid character, she has a good personality and a strong sense of right and wrong.
When a murder strikes to close to home, Mac can’t help but become involved. Not only is she trying to figure out the murder, but it seems her relationship with significant other Tim seems to be hitting a rough spot.
It isn’t until she comes face to face with a murderer, does she find the answers she needs.
I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.

Murder at the Taffy Shop by Maddie Day is the second book in her Cozy Capers Book Group Mystery series. This was a fun whodunit to read. I had met all the major characters in this book in the first book in the series, Murder on Cape Cod. It was great seeing them again, especially the main sleuth "Mac" Mackenzie Almeida who owns and operates Mac's Bikes, the retail, rental and repair bike shop in a tourist town near Cap Cod. Mac does a super job of sorting through clues to eliminate suspects. In this case the murder victim is Beverly Ruchert, a woman who rubbed a number of people the wrong way. I liked how Mac's book group Cozy Capers worked on solving the murder mystery especially when one of their members, Gin Malloy who is the owner of the Salty Taffy shop becomes a "person of interest" in the case.I love Mac's parrot Belle. She is quite a character and plays a major role in the story.

Kindle Copy for Review from NetGalley and Kensington Books.

I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Taffy owner Gin finds herself in a sticky mess. A not so welcoming dead body is found on her candy shop front door. She becomes prime suspect when it is found out that she brought a box of taffy to the victim’s house the night before.

Step in the Cozy Capers to help solve the messy situation of the dead wealthy genealogist. A sweet cozy that will keep you entertain.
