This thriller was actually almost impossible to put down and its title and cover are SO fitting.
If you are in the market for a book with characters in which you aren't quite sure who to trust and some past history that is left pretty murky until the near-end of the book, this thriller will be right up your alley. It is well written, the characters are great (there are some I personally *liked* more than others, as was intended, haha), and the plot thickens quickly and rapidly.
A perfect summer thriller - I don't want to say too much about this because the twists are best experienced on your own, but the ending was worth the ride, for sure.
Just finished reading YOU WILL REMEMBER ME by Hannah Mary McKinnon. Thank you to harpercollinsca for my ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. Official publication date was May 25th, 2021.
A thriller that will leave you mind f***** 🤯 at the end! Every time I think I have figured it out, Hannah Mary makes me pick my jaw up off the floor.
Imagine waking up on a deserted beach with a gash on your head, in only a pair of swim trunks. That's what happens to Jack or Asher....He can't remember who he is or was, except a foggy memory of a phone number that leads him back to Maine for answers. But the search for answers leaves him with more questions.
Lily Reid's boyfriend Jack is missing, and Maya Scott's brother has just returned to town out of the blue. Will Jack aka Asher remember why he left his hometown in the first place in time to save his future?
I love how Hannah Mary McKinnon can completely shock me with her twists and turns 🤯, and how about that ending 😱😭🤣. She has a wicked mind and I want more!
My second Hannah Mary McKinnon book was another hit! This was highly anticipated for me, and I'm so grateful to Tandem Collective Global and Mira books for my copy of this one for a readalong.
A man wakes up on a beach with no memory - what is his next step? While this one initially worried me that it would be very similar to other books that follow this plot line, I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't take the typical route those books do. I loved the 3 POV's this book took, which really helped form the overall story, in a good confusing way to make the twists even more shocking. Even though I had figured quite a bit of it out, I still didn't expect the path it took. I was wildly shocked at the ending, which doesn't always happen with these types of books. If you love twisty, confusing mysteries, I highly recommend this book - you'll fly through it!
This is HANNAH MARY McKINNON’s fifth published book and her second psychological thriller. This is my first read by Hannah.
You Will Remember Me is an amnesia psychological thriller about a man who washes up on shore during a storm. He hurt his head and can’t seem to remember his name or anything about himself. Jack is 32 years old. He went missing while swimming off the coast of Brookmount (MD) Friday evening. His partner, Lily Reid, raised the alarm the next morning. Efforts to locate Smith have remained unsuccessful. Owing to violent storms and heavy rainfall, the search efforts have been postponed. Lily found his truck parked in the lot phoning the police they discovered he’s been lying to her about who he is.
Jack buried his secrets in Maine and started a new life in Maryland where he met Lily with Ash escaping into a new life as Jack. That’s until he traveled back to Maine after suffering from retrograde amnesia. Upon his arrival he remit his stepsister Maya whose been filling in the gaps of lost memories. Unable to give up on Jack Lily decided to investigate.
Ash wanted his memories both from when he spent time with Maya and Lily.
Hannah alternates between Lily’s experience and Jack’s experience during this period of time. Lily’s journey is quite the opposite of Jack’s where she knows who he is, but can’t locate him. Jack’s journey leads him back to his past in Maine where he doesn’t know who he is. The life he had in the past and the life he built are long forgotten memories. While both venture down different roads it’s fascinating how they cross paths.
Written in three points of view: Lily, Maya, and Ash. As Ash navigates his way into regaining his memories Lily p’s character shares experiences of a life she built with Jack. Maya relives memories with Ash. Maya’s character has his past memories while Lily has his most present memories. All the while Ash is unaware he built another life separate from Ash.
With each new chapter and with each point of view the reader gets closer to the truth.
All I can say is, “wow”. I’m blown away by the twists and turns and tragedy. I’m so glad Hannah went and stayed in the dark side. Often times writers aim for a HEA avoiding the true and natural reality that some people just are evil. By giving her readers a more realistic outcome was fascinating and a little scary. I’m glad she ventured onto this path because it made for a spectacular read.
Well well well, Hannah Mary is back, okay, she never left, but man-o-man, she just keeps bringing it! This beaut of a story starts with a man waking up on the beach not remembering what happened or who he is; a woman who’s boyfriend doesn’t show up in the morning when he’s supposed to; and a step-sister that can’t believe her missing brother has just shown up in their home town. Let that sink in, I’m sure you can tell that, yes, they’re all tied together. Now how they’re all related well I’ll let you read the book to find out. But the way this is written from each point of view is so addictive and definitely keeps you hooked and need to know “what is going on?”, yes I said those words out-loud a few times throughout (in a good way of course)! So go pick up this amazing book or listen to it, and enjoy the heck out of it!
Thank you Hannah Mary McKinnon and Netgalley for this E-ARC!
This is a story that caught my attention from the get-go. Though amnesia is used often in books, if it’s done correctly it still works. When a man wakes up on a beach in Maryland with no idea who he is or what he’s doing there, I wanted to know more.
But it takes some time to work everything out since the chapters jump back and forth between “the man on the beach;’” Lily who is upset because her boyfriend, Jack, has disappeared from a beach; and Maya, who in a very unusual way discovers that her missing stepbrother is the man on the beach, whose name is Asher. Sound confusing? Well, it is and it takes a bit before everything starts to come together. So bear with it. And just continue reading.
You Will Remember Me is interesting and kept me turning pages. Fairly quickly I was pretty sure I’d figured everything out, but the pages continued flying. Surely I hadn’t. It was way too easy. I’ll let you see if you have this ending pegged.
What Concerned Me
In this case it’s going to be difficult to say much without spoiling the plot for you. But I was left with a hollow feeling when I finally hit the last page. The characters were okay, but kind of flat and I didn’t really connect with any of them. And, yes, the plot did keep me turning pages, but all and all, it just missed that something special. The wow factor didn’t even pan out for me at the end.
Final Thoughts
When I rate a book 3 Stars it only indicates that it didn’t stand out for me. But since rating a book is completely subjective, this type of rating doesn’t negate the possibility that you’ll love it..
I say, You Will Remember Me is pretty predictable up to a point, and you will have to decide if it works for you or not. If the description sounds good, then this is a thumbs-up. Give it a try.
My thanks to NetGalley & Harlequin for the chance to read this eBook and to review it with no stipulations.
If you like a good psychological thriller/suspense, you will want to pick this up! Wow! What a twisty, thrilling tale!!! So much of it I didn't expect and when I started to untangle all the knotted threads, it still left me reeling! That ending was intense!
I didn't find it graphic as far as blood and gore, but it has some content that certain readers might find triggering. I personally felt it was what I want in a thriller - enough gravitas, mystery, weight, and foreboding to keep me engaged, but nothing overtly scary or graphic. Twists and turns that pack a punch - and yes, there's some diabolical behavior, but it all comes together in an easy-to-read wont-want-to-put-down "delightful" piece of fiction!
A man comes to on a beach, wondering who he is. Lily frantically searches for her boyfriend Jack who is missing. Maya has been looking for her stepbrother Asher. All these pieces of the puzzle will come together with quite a bang. This has to be one of the twistiest, creepiest stories I have read in a long time. The ending alone left me with heebie jeebies. I was not expecting things to turn the way they did. It may start off on a simmer but believe me, the pot will boil over.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin Mira for a copy of this book for review.
A fast-paced thriller with an unreliable narrator - a great book for beach reading this summer that I will be recommending to others!
This was an interesting amnesia story. When Jack wakes with a pain in his head and no memory he struggles to know what to do. When he remembers that he was from Maine he heads that way to look for answers. Lily is searching for her boyfriend who went for a swim after work and never arrived at her apartment.
Will Jack remember who he is and why he left home? Will Lily be able to find Jack?
Thank you Netgalley for complimentary copy.
This story begins with a man that wakes up in the beach in his swim trunks with a gash to his head. He doesn’t remember anything, he has amnesia.
The girlfriend, Lily is desperately searching for him and refuses to believe he has drowned after finding his truck at the beach.
Meanwhile in his hometown, his sister Maya is also searching for him but for over two years now. Where can he be?
How these stories intertwine is amazing because of Hannah Mary McKinnon’s writing style. If you love psychological thrillers as much as I do, you need to read this one. You think you know what is going to happen at the end, but she always adds a twist! Who is the real villain in this story?
Hi, my name is Arianna and I am part of the @hannahmarymckinnon fan group. You Will Remember Me is SO GOOD.
Hannah is the queen of the epic ending and YWRM blows it out of the park. I was lucky to be a part of a Readlong for the book, hosted by @tandemcollectiveglobal and @harpercollinsca and it was such a fun thriller to read together. Check out my highlights to see real time thoughts! I love Hannah's dark and twisted writing mind :)
A man wakes up on a beach in Maine with no memory of who he is or where he's from. All he remembers is a phone number that leads him to his step-sister Maya. Over in Maryland, Lily's boyfriend has disappeared after going for an ocean swim and she's desperate to find him. And that's all the plot I'm tease here!
Hannah does an amazing job at writing mysteries with strong and developed characters and twisted family dynamics. Here we have three POVs- Lily, The Man and Maya. Maya is such a fascinating character and seeing her layers get reveled was so much fun to read.
This is the kind of book that makes you stay up way past your bedtime to finish with absolutely zero regrets. 10/10 recommend.
Thank you to Tandem Collective, HarperCollins Canada and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review!
WOW! I was sooooo rooting for a happy ending, but the ending was def a twist. The characters were so compelling and the story was so engaging!
You will remember me is for all readers who enjoy a dark psychological thriller with many twists and turns! You will not see this ending coming!!
Hannah Mary McKinnon, is able to captivate an audience early on. This novel is narrated through multiple points of view and the details of each character makes them come to life and will have you feel like you personally know each of them. You will easily feel the tension!
At times I did feel like it was quite predictable but it did not deter me to continue on reading. I thoroughly enjoyed You Will Remember Me, and I would definitely recommend this to thriller book lovers.
I struggled a bit with this, even though it's my favorite genre.
I never really connected with the characters. In fact, I didn't like most, if not all, of them that much. Midway through the book, things really started to drag. Key plot points were a bit too predictable, though the ending was unexpected. The ending just wasn't surprising enough to bring up the rating and overcome the other issues. I did enjoy the alternate points of view. Overall, this isn't one that will stick with me.
Thank you to MIRA for the digital arc copy of this title. All opinions are my own.
One sentence review: You Will Remember Me by Hannah Mary McKinnon is a character driven thriller that will keep you wondering throughout and the ending - yikes.
The story centers around a man who wakes up on a beach in Maryland with no memories. Acting on instinct he finds his way home to Maine. The story is told from three viewpoints - the man and two women who know him. I went into this not really remembering much from the synopsis other than he had amnesia and it really worked for me so I'm leaving this synopsis here.
My thoughts:
- This is a really well written, character driven thriller. I went through the book pretty quickly wanting to know what the heck was going on.
- The characters are what really drives this story - and one the characters is a doozy.
- This is a thriller that I think will make thriller lovers very happy. Because that ending.
- I have a love hate relationship to thrillers. Definitely prefer mine to be on the lighter side or involve a mystery. This one was bordering on the outside of my comfort zone. That being said I think it is a brilliantly executed thriller.
If you love psychological thrillers - go out and buy this one today. If you like your thrillers a bit on the lighter side, this may not be the book for you.
TW: drug use, violence, murder
Wow! Wow! Wow! This one totally different from any suspense books that I've ever read. So yeah...I absolutely love it.
This book took "I'll do anything for love" to another level, a crazy one. This one was really creepy. The suspense and mystery was superb, that I just can't stop once I start.
This book is full of characters that kinda hard to love with all of the madness they bring, especially that "ONE" character, but they definitely leave a mark for me, definitely will remember these characters forever, because they're all such a strong crazy characters. Definitely not your typical characters, there's so much craziness inside that I don't know wether to hate or admire them.
This is the kind of book that I can't really talk about much in review because I don;t want to spoil it. You have to read it to really know what the madness is all about. So....READ IT!!!
I love the ending of You Will Remember Me by Hannah Mary McKinnon because I do not see it coming. With a limited cast of characters, this book is not a mystery. It is all about how twisted the villain can get and how far it will go. Let's just say that it goes pretty far, and that makes for a suspense filled story all the way to the end.

Any book by Hannah Mary McKinnon deserves 5 ⭐️. She masters thrillers every time. I have so many theories while reading her books then I get blindsided by another plot twist
A man wakes up on a deserted beach in Maryland with no memories at all. As he tries to find out who he is, he starts to discover a past he might have left behind on purpose. Lily Reid thought she knew her boyfriend Jack, but then she finds out after he disappears that he had been lying to her from the moment they met. Maya Scott had been trying to find her stepbrother Asher since he went missing, and finding him again seems like a miracle, even without his memory. But there are secrets that no one realized, and he wanted to forget.
I feel so bad for Lily, who got hit with a double whammy of missing boyfriend and then that her boyfriend had lied to her throughout their relationship. Maya is supportive of Ash from the moment a glimmer of memory has him calling her number. As Ash, he went through an incredible amount of loss in a short period of time, and the mysterious running away of one girlfriend and death of another might have been what drove him to leave. All three have incredible amounts of pain in their pasts, and I felt bad for them all.
Things slowly shifted in time, and the pity soon turned to dread. It's masterfully done, and I was sucked so hard into the story that I lost track of time. The ending is not what I expected, and the way everything kept twisting back and forth had me on edge. It's a wonderful and dark look at love, obsession, and the way it can warp people. Definitely a fantastic read!
