An unexpectedly enjoyable book that I very much enjoyed. I'm glad I picked it up. I was expecting something different, though.
This book is perfect. Give it to kids. Adults can read it too. The art is beautiful. The stories are fun. I hope these two write a million more of these books. Thanks to DC and Net Galley for the ARC.
I had a lot of fun reading this book. We met many famous villains, and some were shocked they even had fans. The questions didn’t always make sense to them, but this didn’t stop them from giving each fan an answer to their question. As the book moves along, it seems this group of baddies is planning something big. Yet as this story comes to a close, things end up not going as any of them hoped things would. Fans of Dear Justice League will want to check this book out.
Dear DC Super-Villains features many of the popular DC Comics villains along with some lesser-known characters. Children will enjoy reading stories about Catwoman, Lex Luthor, Harley Quinn, Gorilla Grodd, Giganta, Sinestro, Katana, and Black Manta. Each chapter contains a short story along with answering a question emailed to them by a child. The result is often hilarious and at times actually quite heart-warming.
The author, Michael Northrop, knowns his audience well. Northrop does not talk above the children he is writing for, nor does he talk down to them. He knows that kids like silly but can also appreciate serious moments, too. The writing is snappy and has appropriate references to vernacular and things kids currently enjoy.
This graphic novel is for kids ages 8-12, though I do think kids a little younger with help from a caregiver or teacher would enjoy it as well. There may be some concern about the subject matter as far as if kids should be getting advice from villains, but the book itself is very sweet and positive. These characters have some good life lessens even if they are a little rough around the edges.
Dear DC Super-Villains is a book that kids would definitely enjoy. There are silly and fun moments, but with some insight from characters for kids who are dealing with things as well. There’s something for every kid to enjoy. I think it is also a good book for kids who maybe don’t like reading so much to check out too. There isn’t a lot of words, but the writing is funny and smart. Overall, it is a very enjoyable read and I’m hoping this is not the end of this particular series!

As a huge fan of the DC Universe, I am always excited for a new iteration of my beloved heroes and villains. This book does not disappoint! With character introductions (and puns galore) no lack of prior knowledge of these famous foes will keep readers from laughing at their antics.
This book missed the mark for me. Upon reading the other reviews, I realize this was a sequel to a book with the same format. Maybe that's the reason. The question and answer format was repetitive, and the jokes largely stale (even considering the age demographic). It did pick up near the end when the actual story unfolded. Definitely not a terrible book, but definitely the best one out there either.
The follow-up to Dear Justice League follows the same format as its predecessor; that is, each chapter follows one DC super-villain answering a question they've been asked, all combining in the end to one big showdown against the Justice League. The super-villains are comically silly during the whole thing, which just makes the eventual showdown even better. The art is lovely and colorful. Dear DC Super-Villains is a must-purchase for libraries where the first volume is popular and is highly suggested for all libraries in general.
This is the sequel to Dear Justice where kids would write letters to their favorite supers. Now kids are writing the villains to ask about life on the dark side.
The big splash pages in between stories by Gustavo Duarte are so good. I loved the way they introduced the villain. It created instant excitement when it was one of my favorite bad guys. The book is super silly just like with Dear Justice. Wes Abbot changes the lettering style for each villain. It changes based on how they are responding to their letters and I loved it. None were difficult to read and they all fit the story so perfectly. This creative team made a wonderful book. Everything fits together and nothing seems out of place. I cannot wait until April when I can get my hands on the physical copy of this book.
Creative Team:
Written by Michael Northrop
Illustrated by Gustavo Duarte
Colors by Cris Peter
Letters by Wes Abbot
This work follows up and follows a similar format to Dear Justice League. Kids ask Supervillains questions, including "have you ever considered just being good?" The letters open up a memory, or even something that is actively happening, and the Supervillains answer the questions in their own style. Lex Luthor talks about whether or not he likes being bald. Some children are inspired to do good thanks to the letters. The twist that comes in is absolutely perfect. I hope there are more in this series as they are a blast to read.
Dear DC Super-Villains is a sequel to Dear Justice League. My 13 yr old and I thought it was great. We both really liked the illustrations and the funny quips throughout the whole book. According to my 10 yr old "Even though the art is pretty good, I think it wasn't that good." He thought there was only one funny joke and said that he was confused as to what was going on until the end of the book . So maybe it went over his head on this one and we are going to take his review with a grain of salt.
Michael Northrop brings all the humor and animated style he used in the first book in this series for an enjoyable sequel. I know many young readers who enjoyed the first book and who will enjoy this one greatly, as well.
A hilarious and fun sequel to “ Dear Justice League”, it can be read as a standalone. This book features letters written to super villains and their responses. Featuring some of our favorite DC super villains along with their shenanigns. The artwork is amazing and I had so much fun reading this! I would definitely recommend this for anyone who enjoys DC heroes or villains. It’s an easy ready for kids too!
*Thanks Netgalley and DC Entertainment for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
