This is an adorable take on a pen pal romance. I love heriones that believe the ultimate happily after, and unaplogetically find it. This is a fun feel good romance.
When Grace Cooper’s fathers dies after a cancer diagnostic, she have to quit her dream of becoming an artist to run her family’s business, a small champagne shop called 'Bubbles'. She had signed herself up in a blind dating app hoping to finally find her prince charming... and she ends up meeting, the lovely, 'Sir', who she has never seen the face before but shares some similar interests and instantly felt connected and slowly begins to fall in love with him. Lately the store is struggling with some financial problems and for the past three months the corporation of the unbelievable handsome Sebastian Andrews had been making offers to buy the store but Grace isn’t ready to throw in the towel so easily. She also has no clue that the guy who she’s in love with is her “rival” in real life.
To Sir, with love is a light and fun romcom but it is far from my favorite book by this author, but if you are looking for a quick, ease read, a VERY slow burn and an insta-love story, this book is definitely for you.
Grace and Sebastian were nice... nothing out of the box but definitely enjoyably characters, of course I felt more ""connected"" with Grace than with Sebastian seeing that the whole book was in her pov and maybe that’s the reason why I didn’t enjoyed this book as much as I thought I would, because I felt Sebastian’s character a little bit distant, I mean, he was almost a side character (???) if at least we had a dual pov and one of them was in third person like in Walk of Shame, my rating would be higher.
I REALLY liked the side characters especially Lily (Grace’s sister) and Alec (Lily’s husband) they were so cute and made me wish for a whole book about these two.
Overall this is a simple and cute romance, as I said before, nothing out of the box, not boring but not memorable either, I will probably forget about him in 2 weeks, but, of course, I highly recommend that you read and make your own conclusions.
• TO SIR WITH LOVE •
As with all of the other Lauren Layne books I've read, this was a delight from start to finish. I really enjoy Layne's stories and writing - so much fun, great chemistry and banter. This was such a great opposites/enemies to lovers romance with an adorable meet cute and I thought the messages at the start of each chapter were such a nice touch. I also really loved how we saw both characters' personal growth and searching for what they really wanted in life (outside of the relationship).
The one small thing I would have liked to be different was the pacing/timing of some events in the story, but that's just a personal preference, and overall it was a super charming, quick read - perfect for summer!
Thank you so much to Gallery books and Netgalley for letting me read an eARC of To Sir, With Love! This book was everything I wanted from a summer read and I definitely think y'all should go grab it now (especially since it's out now)!
To Sir, With Love 4/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads:
Love Is Blind meets You’ve Got Mail in this laugh-out-loud romantic comedy following two thirty-somethings who meet on a blind dating app—only to realize that their online chemistry is nothing compared to their offline rivalry.
Perpetually cheerful and eager to please, Gracie Cooper strives to make the best out of every situation. So when her father dies just months after a lung cancer diagnosis, she sets aside her dreams of pursuing her passion for art to take over his Midtown Manhattan champagne shop. She soon finds out that the store’s profit margins are being squeezed perilously tight, and complicating matters further, a giant corporation headed by the impossibly handsome, but irritatingly arrogant Sebastian Andrews is proposing a buyout. But Gracie can’t bear the thought of throwing away her father’s dream like she did her own.
Overwhelmed and not wanting to admit to her friends or family that she’s having second thoughts about the shop, Gracie seeks advice and solace from someone she’s never met—the faceless “Sir”, with whom she connected on a blind dating app where matches get to know each other through messages and common interests before exchanging real names or photos.
But although Gracie finds herself slowly falling for Sir online, she has no idea she’s already met him in real life…and they can’t stand each other.
I really, really liked this book! Contemporary romance novels set in Manhattan make me so happy for some reason (probably because of my romanticized vision of the city) so I loved everything about this! A brick and mortar champagne store, a rich business mogul trying to get the building that store is in back, the owner of the store having ridiculous chemistry with the business mogul? Sign me up for sure! I really liked Gracie as a main character. She was so relatable to me- doing everything she could to keep her family happy and together, living in her daydreams, talking to men (or well a man) online without having ever met him before. I also really liked her siblings and all of the employees at Bubbles and More. Even Sebastian Andrews was great and so much more than the evil businessman. Pacing and plot wise, this book was relatively short, but it seemed like the perfect length for a great summer afternoon/weekend read or a vacation read. I never felt as though things were dragging or I was bored- I really enjoyed every part of this book. I definitely recommend To Sir, With Love as a fun, easy summer feel good contemporary romance!
⭐⭐⭐💫
Pick up To Sir, With Love if you are looking for a light-hearted, charming, and feel-good romance. You get invested in the characters and they are all likeable. While I wish there were some steam scenes, it didn't take away from the story. It is a fast and easy read. I was able to read this in a day. This would be a perfect pool day read!

Thank you @netgalley and @gallerybooks for providing me with an earc in exchange for an honest review!
While Gracie has always wanted to be an artist, her fathers dying wish was that she and her siblings keep the family business alive. Since her siblings have stepped back, it falls on Gracie to take over the Champagne shop. When the landlord wants to buy out their lease, Gracie feels conflicted but cant talk to her family about it. Luckily she has Sir, the faceless man she met on a dating app.
This book was just so cute. I read it in one sitting and loved every second of it. I think we all have a little bit of Gracie’s fantasy life in us! This book also really made me want to break out my watercolors and do some painting, its been a while! Sebastian was the perfect hate to love him character, and their connection just made my heart so happy! So a book about champagne, painting, amazing friends and family, and love to finish it off? I don’t think you could ask for more! If you need a lighthearted, happy, romantic read, look no further!
What is it about LL's books that just are unputdownable!?! Some kind of magic that is for sure!
Her books ALWAYS bring a smile to my face and tears to my eyes... they are feel good romances, that I devour in one sitting, then make me want to go back and start again.
I remember loving ‘You’ve Got Mail’ when it first came out (I mean who doesn’t love a sassy Meg Ryan), this took that idea and made it even better! Honestly, someone please make this into a movie!
I love Sebastian and Gracie’s story... I love the idea of falling in love twice... I love love! Sebastian is broody and abrupt but as he and Gracie get to know each other, he’s so thoughtful and kind! I love how in turn Gracie, who was already on the path to changing her life, just got a little push in the right direction from him and it changed her life!
This book is so good… it’s so delightful that I’ve read it twice already! Thank you to @netgalley and @gallerybooks for an ARC.
Lauren Layne is an author that writes books I will always enjoy. To Sir, with Love is on the shorter side but I read it in one sitting and it was fun! It's a new spin on the classic Shop Around the Corner (or You've Got Mail) where Gracie Cooper has been talking with 'Sir' for a while on a dating app that doesn't have pictures. She's starting to develop feelings for Sir but they've never met. Meanwhile, she is butting heads with Sebastian Andrews who wants to buy out her business location. She is as stubborn as can be because she's running the family business and wants to follow her dad's last wish before he died.
This book is a classic tale of enemies to lovers! It's completely adorable and you can help but get hooked into the story from the beginning. Gracie is headstrong and determined to get what she wants while Sebastian Andrews is right on her heels. He's cold at first but once you get to know him, you can't help but root for him. It may seem like an obvious storyline and ending but it's the journey in getting there that makes this book so fun. The writing is great, the characters have personalities that make you love them, and the supporting characters even have storylines that you get invested in. This is another hit for Lauren Layne and I would recommend it to anybody looking for an easy and fluffy romcom!
If you enjoyed the 90s Meg Ryan movie, You’ve Got Mail, you will love the updated take in To Sir With Love.
Ms Layne does an excellent job of crafting likeable characters with Gracie and Sebastian plus an entertaining supporting cast. It was a pleasure to watch things evolve from Gracie’s point of view.
Full of good life lessons, Gracie shows us the importance of being true to yourself and that sometimes to get the ending you want, you have to take control of your story.
"To Sir, With Love" is constantly compared to the beloved rom-com, "You've Got Mail." While there are clear similarities in the online vs IRL relationships, this book doesn't do as well as the movie when it comes to balancing the two. A key point of the movie we know and love is that our heroine is conflicted because both her online and IRL love interests are equally pulling at her heartstrings. Within "To Sir, With Love," The messages with "Sir" didn't occur often enough for him to seem like a viable romantic candidate. The romance in general was also lacking. You will not find a single steamy scene anywhere in this novel.
There's still plenty to like or even love about this book and it will still appeal to die-hard rom com fans and even some Nora Ephron devotees.
This was such a fun spin on You've Got Mail! For an enemies-to-lovers trope, it was surprisingly sweet. Plus, I loved the added family dynamic and the interactions between them.
It's been a long time since I've laughed this much reading a book. I am now a fan of Layne's work and hope she writes more books along the same lines as "To Sir, With Love".
I am a real sucker for this trope, and I liked the modernization of the already modernized email (versus letter versus….) as a way to one’s heart. And as a champagne lover who gets to travel to Reims in Champagne I particularly enjoyed that the shop around the corner in this novel is a champagne shop called Bubbles! The meet cute was perfect… but somehow I was never quite willing to suspend disbelief long enough to fully buy in to this couple not figuring it out long before they did. Still a sweet and cute romance, but four stars for the attraction not quite going all the way.
The story sparkles with wit and humor as these two adversaries unknowingly start falling in love online through text messages even as they hate each other's guts. Despite their antagonism, Sebastian is there to cheer Gracie on through all her trials and tribulations with her shop even as he's proposing a much hated buyout. The sparks will really fly when all is revealed.
Ms. Layne has rapidly become one of my favorite contemporary authors who offers a sweet escape from the day to day humdrum. Her characters and not just the protagonists but the entire supporting cast have a personality that adds to the story. The witty repartee and dialog keeps readers involved and enthralled.
I absolutely loved the contrast between how Gracie destroys the letters with the buyout offers while she can't wait for messages from Sir, little realizing that they are one and the same. As much as she wants to meet Sir and see what he looks like in person she can barely avoid running over the gorgeous Sebastian every where she turns.
I absolutely love how the author puts her own delightful twist on some tried and true tropes to make them new and sparking. I can't wait for what comes next from her talented pen.
Thank you to the publisher for gifting me a free copy of this book. I really enjoyed this modern take on You Got Mail, one of my favorite movies. It's a light and perfect read for romance lovers, a great one to throw into your bag or bring on your Kindle.
Overall I thought this was a great book! I was surprised by the twists in the plot, and happy with the ending.
You’ve Got Mail is one of my all-time favorite movies - when Valentine PR reached out to me about To Sir, With Love and described it as a mix of Love is Blind and You’ve Got Mail, I was sold. Let me tell you: this was my first Lauren Layne book, and it certainly won’t be my last.
I can’t get over how freaking cute this book was. It was a really lovely take on the concept from You’ve Got Mail - it was clear that the author revered the movie and wanted to do it justice. She brought the story into the modern day by using an anonymous dating app in lieu of emails. The samples of dating app messages balanced nicely with the rest of the story - there was just enough of them to establish Sebastian and Gracie’s online relationship and contrast it with their real life one. Overall, this was a quick read, and it would definitely be hard to not get hooked and read in a single setting.
I really enjoyed the in-person relationship between Gracie and Sebastian - even though they were business rivals, they were never over the top antagonistic towards each other - they had their spats but they both were fairly emotionally mature. Online, however, they had sparks flying right off the bat. I loved how slow burn their relationship was - by the time they finally got together / had their happily ever after, their chemistry was off the charts, and it felt like they had really earned their happy ending.
If you love enemies to lovers, you should be picking up a copy of To Sir, With Love ASAP. It’s adorable and sweet and wonderfully written - best paired with a good champagne. You should check out if you enjoyed You’ve Got Mail, The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren, or Very Sincerely Yours by Kerry Winfrey. 5/5
Such a cute storyline! Gracie decides to give online dating a shot and downloads an app, and actually meets someone that she has a connection with! The bummer is that the guy isn’t really on there for a relationship but was put on there by his friends but decides to continue to message Gracie and the forage a friendship of sorts. In real life, Gracie meets Sebastian and cannot stand him, especially since he is trying to get Gracie to sell her family business to him. As they continue to have moments together, both of them realize that they are attracted to each other, but with Sebastian in a complicated relationship and Gracie feeling that she’s in a relationship of sorts with the mystery man on the dating app, things don’t progress – until Sebastian realizes it’s him that Gracie has been speaking to! This was such a cute storyline, although we already knew that Sebastian was the guy Gracie was messaging the whole time, so at points it did get somewhat annoying because it was so clear that they were one in the same, but overall, I loved the style of writing and the storyline from Lauren!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
As a fan of romance and fairytales, "To Sir With Love" gets ten stars from me! I enjoyed the terrific range of fabulous characters, especially Gracie whose kindness battled with her fear of failing at the family business and/or love, and whose attitude regularly turned to blatant, joyous sass, and Sebastian, whose classy business persona was often tempered with humor, generosity a little insecurity and deep affection. The family members and store staff were each superb and as a cast created a perfect fairytale. I laughed, cried, cringed at times and couldn't wait to read more!
I received a free ARC of this book from Net Galley for my honest voluntary review. I will recommend this book to all my friends and probably read it a few more times myself!
This was such a fun and sweet read. Sebastian and Gracie are well written characters with a great depth. Together they share a great chemistry, this is a wonderful update to classics like You’ve Got Mail. So fun and sweet. Would recommend.
