An amazing, captivating page turner! a must read.
I look forward to reading the rest of this gripping series!
Book #1 in a series is meant to build our sense of the characters and the community in which they live. It's meant to be slower paced. Someone forgot to tell Leslie Wolfe that.
THE GIRL FROM SILENT LAKE starts out with a murder and a memory. It builds tension, suspense and speed as you quickly turn pages to see what could possibly happen next. When you reach the "what in the world could happen next", you are just getting started. And the ending.....
I have been in a reading slump for a while, and this was the first book I laid my hands on to try and break it, and I totally devoured it in one sitting, and couldn't wait to read number 2. The second one was even better, and now, having finished book number 4 in the series, I only have one question - why isn't there a book 5 yet???
The series features detective Kay Sharpe, and even though she is just human, she tries to be there for everyone, and solve every one's problems. The books were really well written, and honestly, I haven't read something so thrilling, gripping and entertaining in a very long time. This series is highly recommended, I promise you, just do it!
I will post this same review on all 4 books, as this is really applicable to all.

Kay Sharp was an FBI profiler and she takes leave when her younger brother was sent to jail for a six months. Returning to her home town she gets pulled into investigations of murder. She also learned a woman’s body had been found and began to look into it.
This was a solid start to a series and I look forward to reading more.
Thank you to netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoy reading the stories written by Leslie Wolfe and The Girl from Silent Like was no different. Wolfe's writing style gets the reader's attention from the beginning and kept me wondering what would happen next all the time. The story is fast-paced, suspenseful, and full of mystery. A must-read for the lovers of this genre. Great entertainment!
Oh how I loved the idea of this storyline as it would be right up my street. It’s told from the point of view of several different characters with some past and present timelines thrown in. Where it was a great storyline idea it was such a trudge to get through it as it was extremely slow paced. I felt I was reading a lot but not really getting anywhere. I was waiting for the action, excitement and edge of your seat speed reading but it just didn’t come. It got interesting towards the end but was so rushed and just ended. Other running storylines were just left hanging with no explanation. I did really like the characters and found they were well developed but for me the read didn’t work and it feels I’ve missed something.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this ARC that was published on the 19th of Feb 2021.
The Girl from Silent Lake by Leslie Wolfe is the first book in the new Detective Kay Sharp series and what a great start to a new series! I loved it. I was hooked from the start to the finish. This book was fast paced throughout with great twists and turns.
I highly recommend this new book and looking forward to Leslies next book in Detective Kay Sharp series.
Big Thank you to author Leslie Wolfe, Bookouture and Netgalley for the digital copy of this addictive new crime thriller, for an exchange for an honest review.
I just picked this book by the cover. It looked amazing. But did it meet my expectations... Well... to an extent yes.. A very good read from start to finish...
This is a new to me author, and I’m currently obsessed with all things crime thrillers I decided to try.
I really enjoyed this book, and the killer really stressed me out. He was brutal and smart. I feel like we are just scraping the surface with layers on Kay. I’m looking forward to diving into book 2.
This was an intense and gripping read. It held my interest throughout and im looking forward to reading more
Loved this book so much I’ve bought other books - great story plot and characters had a great flow to them . I found it hard to put down to do housework and kids but so enjoyed this book writing style and imagination
This is a well written story and credible characters. Once I started reading I didn't want to stop. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.
A great book to start a new series. I was intrigued to find out why an accomplished FBI Agent would drop everything, leave the big city and return to her childhood home. It was all beautifully explained in this fast paced page turner.
I liked the story being told from different perspectives as you really got a feel for what was going on in people's heads.
Kay and Elliot are great characters and I look forward to reading more about them.
A forensic psychologist helping the cops in a missing and murder case. This was my first book by this author, and I soon found myself quite embroiled in the plotline as Kay was quite dynamic who was single-minded and relentless. I found myself egging her on. A fast-paced mystery where the killer was always one step ahead forcing Kay to think just like the criminal. Overall, an entertaining read, thriller along with a police procedural.
Book one of a new series with another strong female protagonist who joined law enforcement due to a horrific event in her past. Is Detective Kay Sharp different from all of the others? Short answer: sort of. She’s tenacious and feisty and doesn’t like to follow the rules, which gets her into trouble a lot. The author did a good job of illustrating the tensions between local and federal law enforcement. That rang true. It also added to the distrust between Elliott and Kay (or is there more to that…hmmmm). The plot was good (although the subject matter might be a bit much for some people) and the characters were developed enough for me to look forward to seeing how they progress in the series. The Girl from Silent Lake is a great start to a new mystery thriller series following profiler Kay Sharp.
When her younger brother lands in jail for six months, Kay Sharp takes leave from the FBI to head back to her hometown to keep an eye on things while her brother is gone. After she reads an article in the local newspaper about a murdered woman, Kay can't help herself and sends a few of her ideas to the local sheriff's office. Soon Kay finds herself drawn into the case and quickly discovers they're dealing with a serial killer. After Kay and her partner Detective Elliot Young realize another woman has been missing for several days, it's a race against the clock to find the killer before it's too late.
The plot in this book was intriguing with just the right blend of mystery and suspense. Kay becomes involved with the investigation very quickly after arriving in town and it doesn't take her long to discover a serial killer is at work. It was interesting watching Kay work with Elliot and the rest of the sheriff's office as they're all initially resentful of her involvement. Kay is very good at her job which causes the others to feel inadequate as she thinks of things they don't. I was happy to see though that everyone became accepting of her judgements as the book went on. Throughout the book we get chapters from the killer's point of view which ups the creepy factor significantly. The killer in this book is sadistic and as we spent time in his head I was getting more and more creeped out. I thought the final confrontation with the killer was well done as it was fast-paced and suspenseful.
Kay was a great main character. She's intuitive, dedicated to her work, and doesn't let small-town prejudices get in her way. We learn how good she is at her job throughout the investigation and I liked her methods of investigating. There are some flashback scenes to Kay's childhood which give some insight into her present day reactions to stuff that comes up during the case. Elliot is an interesting character and I enjoyed the dynamic between him and Kay. Elliot hasn't worked cases like the Silent Lake murders and I liked that he deferred to Kay and her expertise. There were a few bumps along the way while the pair got integrated but overall I thought they worked well together.
Overall The Girl from Silent Lake was a solid start to the series and I will definitely be continuing and picking up the sequel, Beneath Blackwater River.
A new profiler (to me) on the hunt for a serial kidnapper/killer in her home town. Most reviews for this are 4/5 stars yet I could get into it. Moving slowly for me with a dialog that seemed stilted kept me from immersion.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc
I raced through this book and I'm so glad I have the next book in the series ready to go. This is such a good first book of which looks like a very promising series. This is the first book I've read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Kay works for the FBI as a criminal profiler but when she has to return to her childhood home she finds out that there is a serial killer targeting women, Kay meets the local sheriff and helps out on the case. This Is a brilliant thriller!
FBI profiler Kay Sharp gets the call from her brother no family member expects to get. He is in prison with a sentence of six months. She knows she has to go home to take care of things. She takes a leave of absence from the FBI and returns home to memories best left in the past.
Once she is there she learns about a body found at Silent Lake and she quickly starts her own investigation while avoiding her family home as much as possible. She is asked to help out by Elliot, a local detective. Soon more bodies start to turn up and it becomes obvious they have a serial killer in their midst.
This was another fabulous book by Leslie Wolfe. I have read many of her books and I love each one. I am glad to see that this will not be a stand alone but more to come.
This book had me from page one, I could not turn the pages fast enough!
A well-thought-out plot with complex and developed characters. A fast-paced thriller with plenty of mystery, suspense, twists, and turns.
A compellingly good read that keeps you invested from start to finish.
I would definitely recommend it.
