Joanne Thorncroft has come from America to British shores in hope of finding her mother’s ring and then discover the secrets it holds. She discovers that she will need help and hires the British private investigator, Thomas Kincaid. Thomas really does not want to help her find the stolen family heirloom; since his heart is still hurting from the last beautiful women he helped. Regardless, he takes the case and finds that Joanne is strong, opinionated and does not back down from a challenge. The characters are great, and we were introduced to others that hopefully we will read about in the next book. I enjoyed reading and found the plot clever and it held your interest.
Bewitched by the Bluestocking by Jillian Eaton is a little different take on a Victorian novel, taking place in about 1870. It tells the story of a young woman named Joanna Thorncroft who had a ring stolen from her when she had visited Boston to sell it. Yes, she was an American, now in England looking for her lost ring. It had been her mother's and she desperately needed to sell it for the money would sustain she and her sisters for years. Moment after she left her grandmother's jeweler, she had been pickpocketed and the only thing taken: the ring. She and her sister scraped together the money they could and left for England. Joanna was now in the office of Thomas Kincaid, investigator, negotiating with him to take her case in exchange for her services as a secretary: a service for which he was in dire need. She told him the story her grandmother had told: that she was not her father's daughter but rather the result of a love affair, which had taken place in England years before. Could her please help?
Wonderful and very different story with two people not looking for love, but of course, finding it in the oddest of places. She was far out of his league, the daughter of a nobleman, even if not legitimate. He had soured on woman after have been taken advantage of some years earlier by a married woman who had toyed with him and then lied to destroy his career. She was not interested in marriage at all. She had never met a man who interested her. It was an enjoyable journey, both the falling in love and recovering the ring. She had adored her father, and still did despite the fact he was not really her father. It was touching in so many ways, and such a clever and rewarding plot: hopefully the beginning of a terrific husband and wife detective series. An extremely enjoyable book with a good mystery and wonderful characters. Good job, Ms. Eaton. I recommend it.

This was such a wonderful story!! It was about a heroine whose parents had died and her, her sisters, and her grandmother had to sell their mansion, fire the servants and live in a shack on the outskirts of town. Her father has been a prominent and prosperous doctor in Massachussets when he went away to the Civil War and passed away. They were going to pawn a family heirloom when it was stolen. They saw the thief board a ship to England, so they followed it. The hero is a disgraced policeman-turned-private-investigator. The heroine has hired him to locate the ring, but what he finds out something quite different.
I enjoyed this story. It was a smooth read. I was captivated from the first chapter and it just kept getting better and better. Then disaster struck! There is no ending. The story just stops. Bam, and then nothing. There is so much more the reader needs. So I guess this is part of a serialized story where you need to read every part. I, personally, hate stories like these. You can have a series of stories where there is a correct ending to the current book. Authors do it all the time. So this ending turns a 5 star book that is so well written and lovely and should be on my keeper shelf into a 1 star don't waste your time reading because the story just stops.
Desperate and at the end of their resources, three sisters determine to sell a ring belonging to their mother, thereby exposing a mystery when it is stolen shortly after they speak to a jeweler. Following its path, the two older sisters to go Britain where Joanna approaches Tomas Kincaid, a highly recommended detective. The start of a new series, this novel left me with more questions than answers, although Joanna and Thomas' story does come to a happy conclusion. I found it difficult to get into this romance until I was about midway through, as the first half of the story was taken up by bickering between the sisters and Thomas Kincaid's inner ruminations which for the most part were fairly inappropriate. As the plot gains ground more than one mystery emerges, although the answers were not to be found in this book. Whilst I loved Joanna's exuberant character, I found Thomas frustrating due to his obvious poor self-image as well as the mixed messages he sent Joanna. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I snagged this book bc like many I've watched Bridgerton and I couldn't get enough of it so to sweeten the wait I dipped my toes into the historical romance part of the book universe and I was pleasantly surprised.
I thought it was funny, witty, smart and entertaining and a true pleasure to read.
I love this author and I loved this book!!!
British private investigator, Thomas Kincaid, had his heart crushed once by a beautiful woman. Now, a gorgeous, soaking-wet American shows up at his door and demands he help her find a stolen family heirloom and she isn’t about to take no for an answer.
Joanna Thorncroft has to find her mother’s ring and discover the secrets it contains. Secrets that have brought her all the way across the Atlantic and onto the doorstep of a sinfully handsome detective.
But as the scandalous truth about the ring’s history is unveiled, Joanna and Kincaid can’t stop the blazing passion that soon threatens to consume them.
This book is really really good! Our heroine is smart, brave and feisty. Kincaid is strong, intelligent and has an iron will and the moral strength of a warrior. He desires Joanna like no other, but he can´t allow himself to fall again for a client. They fight their attraction all the way, but lucky us, they are not succeeding. There are a lot of funny dialogs, great side characters, lots of kissing, mystery, action and great romance.
I highly recommend it!!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to Dragonblade Publishing for providing me an arc via Netgalley!
There was nothing exceptional about this book or anything that really captivated me. In addition to that, I like more development in my romances, and this just felt really rushed and shallow.
Overall wouldn't recommend it.

Thomas Kincaid private investigator & former police officer thinks he’s seen it all until a gorgeous, soaking-wet American shows up and demands he help her find a stolen family heirloom. Having had his heart crushed once before by a beautiful woman, Kincaid has no intention of tempting fate a second time. But Joanna Thorncroft isn’t about to take no for an answer. Joanna has to find her mother’s ring and discover the secrets it contains. Secrets that have brought her all the way across the Atlantic and onto the doorstep of a sinfully handsome detective. While falling in love is the furthest thing from her mind, fiercely independent Joanna can’t help but find herself drawn to Kincaid.
The first book in a new series & what an engrossing start it is. I loved both Kincaid & Joanna he’s the growly, dour investigator, she's a breath of fresh air who happens to be as stubborn as a mule. I loved the verbal bantering between & also the chemistry, which sizzled. I also really liked some of the secondary characters who I hope some will find their HEAs. There's a couple of ongoing threads that need to be resolved so I can't wait for future books. I read this page turner in two sittings & loved it
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This book was so freaking good. This is probaly one of my favourite historical romance book i have Read. Joanna was such a fun and fierce character. I loved that she was stubborn and did everything to Get what she wanted. And the hero was so hot

Fun and dangerous times for two young women who brave British shores in search of a stolen ring.
Both Joanna, our heroine, and her sister Evie, are American born and travel to England following their property, a ring belonging to their dead mother, stolen from them days before.
Needing help Joanna hires a Private Investigator to find out exactly what’s happening and who the thief is.
Will she finally find love in his arms?
Will she also find out about the secrets her family kept and exactly why that affects her ?
Good read and fun dialogue, a little too much of the thoughts of characters for me, I felt it messed with the flow, but I enjoyed the storyline and the ending.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Joanna Thorncroft is the eldest of three sisters and sees it as her responsibility to look after the others. Since the death of their father it's only been them and their grandmother. When money gets really tight her grandmother suggests selling their mother's ring. That will lead to a journey to England and adventure.
Thomas Kincaid has been a private investigator in London since a disastrous affair ended his career with the Peelers. When a beautiful American woman turns up on his doorstep he tried his hardest to get rid of her.
This historical romance is lots of fun. The characters are refreshingly different. With mysteries to solve and secrets to uncover.
Great fun.

The first book in The Perks of Being an Heiress series, Jillian Eaton's Bewitched by the Bluestocking adds a little American grit to the traditionally British historical romance.
I have never read anything that featured an American-British romance during this particular period, so this book was definitely a nice change of pace. Eaton's decision to make this a detective story as well as a romance also sets this book apart from others in the genre and was part of the reason why I wanted to pick this up in the first place. I was a little disappointed to find that the mystery elements primarily served to set up the rest of the series, but the romance was still more than enough to keep me invested. There is certainly enough loose ends for Eaton to write a sequel and I will be more than happy to read it when it comes out!
Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!
Exceptionally unique, captivating story from beginning to end. Joanna has lost everything except for the most important things, her grandmother, her sisters and their mother’s ring with a mysterious inscription. This ring starts an adventure that will change her whole understanding of who she is. Secrets are shared that lead to a trip across the ocean. I am anxiously waiting for the next installment.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a decent, historical romance with a brazen, American heroine and a reluctant. English investigator.
There was plenty of sexual tension between them as the hero fought the chemistry between them. My only critic is that i wished there was more depth to their connection other than sexual attraction.
Bewitched by the Bluestocking is a fun and engaging read with lots of witty banter. A well crafted story by Jillian Eaton and a great start to a new series!
What could go wrong or should I say right between a surly British private investigator and a gorgeous American lady who butt heads and hearts at every opportunity. Thomas Kincaid and Joanna Thorncroft were such fun together and I loved their banter the best, and of course the scorching passion between them is undeniable.
I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
I am sorry to say I Just did not like this. Book. But do i want to trash iyt. NO!!! It Just was not a book for Me.
Joanna and Thomas make a delightful couple in this romantic story.
With a priceless ring that belonged to her mother stolen Joanna goes on a trip to England to try to recover it.
This book is humorous beyond belief. It gets serious near the end. With a murder woven into the plot it's a mystery on top.
Jillian Eaton has crafted a can't put down romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Will he let his past come between his love and a future together ...
It had been a while since I have read this author, not its fault but mine, so caught up in the many books I have to read prior their release day, I have oft to pass on others, and while I purchase them, they sadly sat on my shelves waiting a hole in my reading schedule.
So when I saw this upcoming release, I tightened my books-to-read list to be able to add this one.
And I happy to say it was not a waste of time. I just loved this book.
While it is Joanna’s story, it also introduced her middle sister Evie, a Duke, an Earl and some other intriguing characters I suppose will be featured later.
Joanna has played the mother hen to her sister since her mother’s passing, the only thing she refuses to do for them is to marry for mercenary goal. She wants love even if she does not know what the word entails.
She is opinionated, strong willed and not one to backdown from a challenge even if it means crossing half the world to track a mysterious jewel. She gives as much as she receives.
I laughed at her relationship with her sister Evie, they are two harpies when angry but so much fun when they disagree, which is well all the time.
After the revelations that bring her in an unknown country, Joanna has to learn to navigate the new perimeter of her life, she experiences new feelings and comes to question everything she has known until now.
Thomas is a broken man, damaged beyond repair by the last blow life threw on his way. The orphan he was never knew love, why he plunged deep when he thought he has found it. Alas it cost him nearly everything why he won’t make that mistake again. Until fate takes matter in hands and lands a feisty fiery miss from the other side of the ocean at his doorstep.
Despite all the alarm bells ringing, he takes on her case.
Their chemistry is from the very beginning off the charts, with a fun reverse twist as she is the pursuer when he resists her advances.
A much entertaining read which left me eager to get my hands on the second book, Evie’s story.

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 onscreen detailed foreplays and lovemaking scenes.
I have been granted an advance copy by the publisher Dragonblade Publishing, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
This was such a fun read! I loved the combo of historical romance with a slight mystery and lots of family drama.
Joanna was definitely the star of the book. I loved her character and how bold she was. I also loved her sisters and I'm exciting to see more of Evie'e escapades in future books. The scenes between the sisters were definitely my favorite and I hope there's more to come in the series!
I wasn't a big fan of Kincaid. He was too hung up in his "I was heartbroken and I will never love again" mindset which I don't tend to be a fan of. So his POV wasn't my favorite, but Joanna's scenes thankfully made up for most of the annoyance I had with him.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun historical romance!

On the brink of poverty, Joanna and her sister Evie set out from America to England. They are looking for the return of a family heirloom that was stolen from them, as well as answers to their family ties in England. Joanna hires private investigator Thomas. There is instant attraction, but Thomas has been burned by love before. They unravel the mystery while, sometimes, fighting their attraction.
