Metropolis Grove is not my favorite of Brockington's works, nor is it my favorite of the DC graphic novels for kids, but it is a fun read nonetheless. The colors are a bit more muted than normal for a superhero graphic novel, but I wonder if that was because the characters live in the suburbs and not a main city. I also loved that Bizarro is the character we get here. He's certainly not unknown to kids, as he is in other kids media, but I don't know that he's a character that many are familiar with. It's a fun little twist that kids will enjoy. Overall, a solid addition to collections where kids superhero comics circulate well.
A comic about three friends building a fort in the woods. Two of the friends don't believe Superman is real while Sonya who just moved there from Metropolis is a huge Superman fan. When they find a mysterious person living in the woods, they think it may be Superman. The story was kind of goofy and it felt unrealistic that kids in the DC universe would think Superman is fake. The art was very cartoony in that way that only works for children's books.
I received an e-book arc of Metropolis Grove, by Drew Brockington from DC Entertainment group on Netgalley. This is my honest review. I ended up giving the graphic novel a 3 out of 5 stars. It comes out May 4th, 2021. The cute story of friendship is adorable. Alex is my favorite character, she is hilarious and kind. Like in the beginning of the book when her friends were busy in a conversation about if superman is real, and she was having a conversations by herself - it was relatable and funny.
This graphic novel is for young readers, so it's a pretty simple storyline, but it was still enjoyable to read. The art style is adorable. And it was a good length of pages, they didn't linger on any parts for too long.

A fun DC-adjacent graphic novel that is at its heart about friendship and trust and believing in your friends. I liked the plot, the art was a bit rough, but I enjoyed the story well enough.
A fun DC graphic novel for younger middle grade readers. The main characters are charming and very relatable for kids. I did find it a bit odd that so many people in the novel were skeptical about Superman and superheroes in general.
Story is fun but seems too simplistic for the target age group. While the angle that kids in Metropolis Grove think Superman is fake news is interesting, why do they think that in a suburb of Metropolis? Does Superman never go outside the city limits, or the kids never travel to the city? Would make more sense to set the story in a more rural, remote location..
