The premise had sounded good, but the characters were overly dramatized and I wasn't able to get into the book.
This was a great young adult book filled with magic, mystery, and romance. Overall it was a very fun listen that was performed brilliantly by the two narrators. Immediately the mystery regarding the main character's origins draws you into the story. This book would be perfect for fans of dark academia.
I loved the concept of the story and how the main characters paths intertwined. It was really fascinating magic system and the setting was gorgeous

Thank you to @NetGalley for gifting me a copy of the audiobook in return for an honest review. About half way through I downloaded the ebook from Amazon and followed along there also. I was very addicted to the book, audiobook, characters and plot!
This book lures you in to the plot and the characters. You began fighting each battle with them. This is one of the best fantasy books I have read. It holds you captive. It is a very well written book.
Slate is under a time limit in a live or die situation. Four tasks have to be completed by four different people or he dies a slow painful death.
Cadence finds herself at odds with her father as she is caught in between the battle between her father and Slate.
That's all you are going to get from me on this book. It is phenomenal and should be gone into blind. Let it weave its magic and captivate you!
The narrators did an amazing job also. They along with the plot lured me in. They also get a 5 ⭐️rating.
Read this book! I'm off to read the second book!!!!!
The Whispering House was a wicked interesting read! It was one of those books that kept me captivated from start to finish and was really fast paced. I’m also a sucker for a good gothic vibe.
"Of Wicked Blood" by Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz, narrated by Holly Fielding and Thomas Locklear, presents a paranormal adventure with a mix of curses, magic, and complex relationships. The dual narrative follows Slate and Cadence, both entangled in a dangerous curse-laden treasure hunt. The concept of curses and magic is intriguing, and the small-town backdrop adds depth to the story. The characters, notably Cadence, offer a fresh perspective on magic and personal struggles. However, while the world-building has potential, the execution falls a bit short. The narrative occasionally feels disjointed, and the pacing lacks consistency, making it difficult to fully immerse in the plot. The romance between Slate and Cadence is a central element, but at times it feels forced and rushed. The profuse cursing, as warned, might appeal to some but could be off-putting to others. Overall, "Of Wicked Blood" offers an interesting premise and characters, but the execution and pacing hinder its ability to fully captivate the reader.
Of Wicked Blood is the first book in The Quatrefoil Chronicles by Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz. I never read anything by Katie but I love Olivia's books so I really wanted to read it.
Of Wicked Blood is about Slate, who stole the Bloodstone from the De Morel's crypt, and Cadence, who sees wearing a ring he stole from my mother's grave..... she calls him a monster. Then she meets real ones.
I really liked Of Wicked Blood. It was very well written and I can't wait for the second book.
I also really liked the narrator
I enjoyed it. This story isn’t one that stayed with me for a long time after. In being a book that I won’t constantly think about then it’s just good.
New author to me, and definitely can't wait to dive into more. Gave me magic and adventure, and honestly sometimes that hits exactly what I'm needing. .
What an amazing experience!
The writing was great and the dialogue even better. What really did it for me though was the setting. I loved this particular take on magic and fantasy - the world building was done well and explained better, the world of magic coming alive through Cadence and Slate's eyes.
Speaking of Cadence and Slate, the characters in the book slightly irritated me at times. All the men in Cadence's life sometimes went all alpha male and tried to prevent her from entering into certain situations. I understand that you only want to protect her but you gotta let the girl make her own choice.
Other than that, this was a great read!
This is a suspense paranormal romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This was my first book from either of these authors and it was amazing.
This is the type of book that makes you feel like you’re inside it and actually living everything that is happening.
All the action, the characters, it was all so good written. It’s kind of a mix between Throne of Glass and Shadowhunters (of my favorite books ever) It was impossible for me to get anything else done,, I needed to keep listening, I needed to know what would happen next.
The characters were so easy to fall in love with and to connect with them.
I loved the book, I’m going to get it on physical because it might become one of my favorites.
This book brought a whole new fantastic fantasy world filled with magic, curses and mystery! During the story you get to know each different character, with their interesting backstories. There is also the enemies to lovers troupe, which is one of my favorites! This new, magical world will have you running to grab the next book in this duology!

Nice to meet narrators Holly Fielding and Thomas Locklear. They allowed for me to fall deeper in to the world created by duo Wildernstein and Hayoz. Slate and Candace do not have the most conventional way of meeting. Their story is one that you will remember. This ya science fantasy romance had it own set of challenged for each character. Seeing them unfold will be the journey. Spend an afternoon getting to know Slate and Candace and their story Of Wicked Blood.
A magical adventure begins in this first book of the Quatrefoil Chronicles by Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz. A thief learns about a family he never knew about living in a magical land. He travels to the Village of Broom, only to make a dire mistake. He finds and steals a ring of dark power. Together with the daughter of a mysterious contact, they start a great adventure of mystery, magic, love and a lot of humor.
The storyline was interesting to follow. It kind of reminded me of a mix of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments and Sarah J. Maas’ Court of Thorns and Roses series. What with the theme of a main character entering into a world of magic and adventure. Mixed with undertones of family and romance. Of Wicked Blood is very well written. I liked the humor and amazing creepy feeling you got in certain parts. The romantic aspect was a bit so-so. The reader could kind root for the duo. Yet at the same time I have a hard time seeing it lasting. The development of the characters was fantastic. The way they grow and change throughout the story was interesting to see.
I listened to the audiobook version of this title. Not to say that the audio version wasn’t well done. The narration of the audiobook was well done. Both narrators performed their parts nicely. Thomas Locklear’s voice was exactly what I can picture the male main character’s being in the book. Though, Holly Fielding was voice was nice to listen to, but was a bit too softly spoken for her character. Yet, despite the book being satisfactory it felt like it took forever to get through. It was interesting but just not interesting enough to for me to concentrate on the story for very long. I can see this book either being addictive for some readers, yet just not connecting with other readers.
This is such a fantastic story, the audiobook was absolutely great and I could feel everything with this book, the story developed really good and was interesting,
Of Wicked Blood was a fantastic audiobook! It was a suspense filled quest with side of romance. It was so much fun!
*I received an audio ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.*
Of Wicked Blood is a great start to a new series. It takes place in a small town in France, that has a history of magic. The book starts with Slate Ardoin receiving a letter that invites him to a prestigious college and a chance to learn more about his history. Having grown up in the foster care system, Slate reluctantly goes because he’s been promised a hefty inheritance. Once there he makes the mistake of stealing a ring that turns out to be a piece of ancient magic that curses him. Now with the help of Cadence de Morel and two other locals, they must race against time to bring magic back to the world or Slate will die.
This book alternates chapters between Slate and Cadence’s perspectives. While this book was slow to start, it soon picked up pace and moved fast. It read like a cinematic experience. There is plenty of action in this book as each member of the group has to complete a task to help break the curse.
I mostly listened to the audiobook while reading this and I enjoyed it. This audiobook is very well produced. Each perspective has a different narrator, and they do a great job of bringing the characters to life.
I would recommend this book in any format and I look forward to reading the sequel.
Really enjoyed this adventure of slade finding out who he truly is and finding out the family he never knew about. Add in a race against time and this book had me excited from the beginning. Gave me tomb raider and indiana jones vibes. Really recommend
This was a well written romance brimming with adventure, mystery and magic. I really enjoyed listening to this and I’m excited to continue the series.
Great audiobook.
It was a fantastic our story that had twist and turns. I immensely enjoyed how the dual narration was done by two different voice actors that gave me a real sense of who's the point of view I was currently seeing the story through. What's a great start to new series. It did a fantastic job of Twisting. The mundane history of the was unavoidable, along with the magical secrets that laid Within. I didn't drag and dump its world-building. It was sprinkled throughout to give the correct information you needed without feeling too down with remembering things that were told to you before. I'm excited to continue with the series. I just reviewed OF WICKED BLOOD by Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz. #OFWICKEDBLOOD #NetGalley
