Instead of watching a soap opera on television, I felt like I was reading one. This book contains a little bit of everything, treachery, drama, murder, jealousy, betrayal. The book jumps between the lives of the three women in the storyline. Overall I felt this was a good book, but not a great book. I would recommmend it though because I know not everyone enjoys the same writing style.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher Ballantine Books, in exchange for my fair and honest review.

This was a great summer read. It kept me turning the pages and I enjoyed the plot twists. The characters were deliciously sinful and a bit over the top. Thanks to #netgalley and the publisher for a copy of #thesinfullivesoftrophywives to read and review.

When I first picked this up I was expecting some "Real Housewives" sort of stuff, but instead got "Desperate Housewives'. Either way I was not disappointed!

Review of The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives by Kristin Miller

Wow. I binged this book in a day. It would complete and pure entertainment to me.

At the opening of this novel, Brooke (who is a novelist) moves with her husband Jack to the coveted, private neighborhood of Presidio Terrace, where all families are extremely wealthy. She immediately befriends Erin, a tv newscaster who is struggling to make her marriage to Mason work, and Georgia. Georgia is known as The Black Widow, and her first two husbands suffered sudden, untimely deaths within a year or marriage. And now Georgia is engaged once again. Brooke immediately becomes entranced with her new friends and their lifestyle. She becomes very curious about Georgia in particular and discovering if she, indeed, has anything to hide. And as is standard, Brooke herself may have a few skeletons in her closet.

As I said above, this book was just so much fun and an absolute page turner. You will be in for a few surprises along the way and I recommend you pick it up. It just released two days ago.

Thank you so much to @netgalley, @penguinrandomhouse, @ballantinebooks for an advanced digital copy of this amazing book.

The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives by Kristin Miller revolves around three friends who appear to have marital troubles with their respective husbands. Georgia is about to marry husband number three after her first two have died. Erin is convinced her husband is having an affair and is intent on uncovering who it is with. Brooke is the newest member of the friendship as she has only recently moved to the neighborhood. Her husband seems to be a distant spouse leaving her on her own for most of her time. All three discover that not everything is as it appears on the surface. Twists and drama abound in this novel. Read and enjoy!

A Dangerous Quest to be a Better Wife

This mild escape into a bizarre mystery combined with eccentric drama was too contrived. Told from the point of view of three narrators: Georgia, Erin and Brooke, their voices meshed together into one angry and devious trio.

It’s sort of a “poor man’s” Desperate Housewives in terms of character development and plot. The three trophy wives, hard-driving beautiful women are introduced in the beginning of the plot. We never really know the whole story until the epilogue. I would have appreciated one of the characters more, if I knew her background.

There is Georgia, who is famously called the “Black Widow,” because her two former husbands died mysteriously leaving her wealthy. There is Erin, recently a news anchor who is trying to be the best. She is also chair of their overreaching private community board, where you cannot leave your garage open for more than five minutes. Really. She is married to Mason, a plastic surgeon, an insulting husband to an extreme. And then there is Brooke, the new girl on the block with an older husband and some secrets in their perfect marriage. Of the three of them, I’m not sure why Erin is a trophy wife, she is a Stanford graduate and a high achiever.

All goes awry when they team up to bestow their charms and intelligence as Georgia is about to marry her third husband. I’m not sure why many incidents happen along the way, and I did not like any of the characters. For some reason, they trusted each other at least in the beginning. It is a fast-moving book where there is much “talk” about designer clothes. However, Louis Vuitton shoes do not have red soles, they belong to Christian Louboutin’s. (I’m not sure why I knew that)!

However, I believe this novel could be a scintillating diversion for many readers.

My gratitude to NetGalley and Ballantine for providing me with this pre-published book. All opinions expressed are my own..

When mystery writer Brooke and her tech husband Jack move into the posh neighborhood in San Francisco, she is immediately befriended by neighbors Erin and Georgia. Though Erin (a newscaster and a stickler to the HOA rules) and Georgia (known as the Black Widow who's two previous rich husbands died) seem a bit odd, Brooke finds comfort and solace with her newfound friends. At the night of Georgia and her fiancé Robert's engagement party, things take a turn for the worst when something tragic happens. With everyone acting strange and out of character, Brooke wonders what secrets everyone is hiding. After all, she has some of her own.

I thought this was a good read. With so many twists and secrets throughout the story it was hard to tell who was really genuine. Eventually loyalties and trust are tested when one of the women discovers a betrayal. Overall I enjoyed reading this and look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the opportunity to read this book.

Meh.

I thought this was going to be more interesting than it was. It was written well enough. Lots of twists and turns, and surprises, but the characters just were not likable. They were all slimy in their own way and I really didn't care what happened to them.

I do appreciate the opportunity to read the digital ARC in return for an honest review. Thank you NetGalley and Ballantine/Random House.

The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives by Kristin Miller is a fun thriller romp following three women, Brooke, Erin, and Georgia. Brooke enters a new neighbor of the extremely wealthy after marrying her tech giant husband, Jack. Brooke soon comes across Erin, the perfectionist career-driven woman, and Georgia, the magnetic Black Widow famous for allegedly killing her last two husbands. However each of the women and their husbands have their own secrets that may unravel the lives of the couples and the neighborhood.

This book was a fast-paced read that gets you hooked from the get-go. The book moves at a consistent pace with secrets revealed bit by bit. I loved that by the end you realized how interconnected many of these secrets were. There were some aspects to this novel that were unrealistic and almost campy but I think that is exactly what the author was going for given the excess of the wealthy.

The three women at the center of this story were what made this book compelling. Although the book starts off with Brooke, it becomes clear Erin is the main star of the show. Erin was such an interesting character as she was simultaneously self-aware yet so deluded. Georgia on the other hand was mysterious which was befitting for her nickname the Black Widow. I do think Brooke’s character could have used some more development. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it for a beach read!

Many thanks to the publisher Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Think your favorite soap opera, Real Housewives, Melrose Place, Sex and the City, and Clue, all wrapped into one juicy and scandalous novel. I could completely picture myself watching, and thoroughly enjoying, a series based on these characters. I truly enjoyed reading this, and loved the twists thrown in throughout, (some predictable, some not). Easy and enjoyable, a perfect beach read.

While I wouldn’t consider this a literary masterpiece, it was a whole lotta fun to read. The main characters were annoying but I kept wanting to know more!!!

Presidio Terrace, San Francisco’s most exclusive neighborhood, is home to mystery writer Brooke Davies, news anchor Erin King, and Georgia St Claire who allegedly killed her first two husbands and is nicknamed the “Black Widow.” Each of these women is hiding their own secrets which goes to show everything isn’t always as great as it seems.

This book had me captivated from the first chapter. As soon as I thought I had figured out the ending, there was another twist to throw me off track. This is by far the best thriller I have read in a while. I highly recommend everybody check this one out.

*siiigh* Okay so I was REALLY enjoying this one from the get go. It’s like a car crash. It’s bad but you just can’t look away. The characters are all terrible but also incredibly fascinating and the whole thing is like a soap opera. It’s all just a little over the top and unbelievable but such a fun time.

That is, until the last 30% or so. Then everything wrapped up just a little too fast? The last chapter felt more like a Q&A just trying to get all those linger questions answered. And I was still left with quite a few questions. The last few twists I definitely saw coming and they also were also weren't really believable when you actually sat back and thought about them. So I wish this would’ve been just a little bit longer and wrapped everything up a bit better and more believably.

Plus the prologue chapter didn’t end up actually fitting with the ending....? It seemed like the author wrote it first and then changed the direction of the story but forgot to go back and edit that prologue later. And I don’t think that helped with my drop in enjoyment at the end. I spent the entire book waiting to see how the story would end up there only to be severely disappointed at the end. I honestly spent half the book waiting for Robert to come back. Plus Georgia's state in the beginning didn't seem to fit with the actual situation at the end??? I think those two chapters needed some continuity editing.

So. I think this could’ve used some good editing and a few extra chapters and it would’ve been great. But I do still recommend this if you’re looking for a good beach read or just something quick and fun. Just don’t look too closely at the plot and be sure to suspend some disbelief at the end....

Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review!

This was a juicy read, perfect for summer! I loved the whole Desperate Housewives vibe, especially seeing behind the scenes of the characters. Some of the situations were quite dark, which I didn’t expect but I liked. Overall a great read.

I was gifted a free copy of this book after reading and reviewing the author’s previous book In Her Shadow. What a ride this book was. It reminded me of the 80’s soap operas of the rich and diletante, ala Dynasty and Falcon’s Crest.

The novel follows three wealthy women who live in Presidio Terrace in San Francisco. They all are married to wealthy men, or in Georgia’s case, several wealthy men (who manage to die in suspicious circumstances) and all seem superficial and obsessed with their appearance, but as they say looks can be deceiving. Georgia is marrying for the 3rd time and the joke is how long will this one last. Brooke is the newcomer to the neighborhood , a mystery writer who may find the plot to her next novel next door. Erin is the news anchor/high strung neighborhood diva. They become fast friends, or as much friends as self-involved women can be, and then Georgia’s fiance disapears, has the “black widow” struck again or are there more nefarious plots afoot?

This novel was a fun ride into the world of the rich, A fun read with a bit of mystery and a lot of drama thrown in. There was a nice twist at the end too. If you are looking for a fun beach read, give The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives a try. I think you will enjoy it.

Thanks to Netgalley, Random House/Ballantine Books and the author Kristen Miller for the chance to read and review this book.

**Many thanks to NetGalley, Random House-Ballantine, and Kristin Miller for an ARC of this book!!**

Mirror, mirror, on the wall...who is the cattiest queen of all?

Color me ENTERTAINED as the fur flew!

Brooke Davies has something to prove to the polished, powerful prima donnas who run Presidio Terrace, an extra-exclusive community in the heart of sunny CA. Neighbor Erin is a powerful and beautiful news anchor with her hunky plastic surgeon hubby...and then there's blonde show-stopping stunner Georgia, dubbed the "Black Widow" after her last two husbands died due to mysterious accidents, leaving their requisite fortunes in the hands of suspected gold-digger Georgia...and Georgia has another one seemingly on the hook, about to be husband number three. As Brooke slowly gets to know these two women and becomes entrenched in their web, her own wealthy and successful husband fears that this is a dangerous alliance she should probably leave behind before it's too late. But Brooke is a mystery writer, and the drama playing out before her seems too delicious to ignore entirely...and when Robert turns up missing, it's the icing on this devilish cake. Should Brooke have heeded her husband's warning...or has Pandora's Box opened for good?

I went into this read expecting a bit of camp, a bit of sass, and a little bit of thriller---but was pleasantly surprised that this novel delivers...in a BIG way! Perhaps the best aspect of this book is that it never takes itself seriously...at all. The dialogue can be downright silly and snarky at times, and I snickered SO many times while reading certain passages. If you're looking for a serious, buttoned-down thriller this is NOT your book. But with so many of those other books readily available, I was here for the dish...and it was piping HOT!

I also loved that the narrative vacillated between Erin and Brooke, with Georgia quiet throughout. The sense of competition between these two for Georgia's attention and approval definitely gave me some Mean Girls vibes, but this absolutely worked here. Normally, I would have wanted to hear from Georgia but in this case? Nah! These two ladies kept me so riveted, I felt like I was sharing a cosmo (or rather, a mimosa from the mimosa bar at the country club, their preferred drink of choice) with them and self-consciously looking over my shoulder from paranoia. Miller's jibes about the 'rules' of the community also made me snicker, as it's clear many of these women have way too much time on their hands...and as much as the wealth would be welcome, honestly, I'm glad I'm not one of them!

The final twist was the perfect capper to this dishy drama, and truly made me laugh out loud....but in a GOOD way! I felt properly duped, despite the fact that this entire premise is about as theatrical and soapy as it gets. So strap in, pull on your designer shades, and get your popcorn ready---this is one murderous and soapy you absolutely shouldn't miss!

4 scandalous stars!

Mind. Blown.

This story totally twisted me one way and then another. From the beginning I never knew exactly what the true dynamic between these women were or where this was all going to end. Each time I suspected one thing, this author revealed a little more and I’d realize I was so wrong.

Each of these characters pulled me into their dysfunctional lives as well as their relationship with each other, which was also dysfunctional. I couldn’t pinpoint who the villain or the good guys were because they all fit each role at one time or another. My mind was spinning and then suddenly...BAM! There it was. Yes! Of course that was what was happening. And just as I began to breathe again...I was once more tossed around to make sure I was paying attention.

This book sucked me in from the first page and I read it non-stop. I love a psychological suspense that can surprise me and this one was INCREDIBLE! I had never heard of this author before but this blurb intrigued me so I took a chance and I am sooo glad that I did. I’ll definitely be checking her back-list as well as following her for more.

Aside from romance, psychological thrillers and suspense novels are always on my TBR. The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives was filled with "wait, what?" moments and so many surprises and twists and turns- it was captivating! I found it to be a page-turner and quite clever. A bit over-the-top, but nevertheless a fun romp. I'm definitely putting it on my re-read list because I know I missed a few tidbits in my first pass.
