This was kind of a fun read. Not the best or most interesting, but still enjoyable. I don't think I would recommend it, but I'm not sorry I read it.
3 Stars!
I was really looking forward to devouring this one. Trophy Wives and murder? Yes, please! The plot fell apart for me. The substance wasn't there and it wasn't exactly believable.
The writing is stellar and the setting is amazing. The story line just didn't do it for me.
A special thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, and Kristin Miller for providing me with an ARC.
The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives was made for fans of Desperate Housewives essentially. The story is dark, twisty, and set in San Francisco's most exclusive neighborhood. I love stories about rich people with murder. Add in excellent writing and a well-crafted plot, I'm hooked. The story is soapy with plenty of secrets behind everyone's perfectly manicured lawns. The story follows three women - Brooke, the newest wife on the block with a 22 years older husband. Erin, famed news anchor and head of the HOA who just wants to make sure her husband doesn't leave her for a trophy wife. And Georgia, known as the "Black Widow" because her two previous husbands died and she cashed in. The rumors are swirling when Georgia's third husband goes missing. This is one addictive thriller! Highly recommended!
#The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives is a fun novel with mystery also. Author # Kristen Miller introduces you to the wife's of Presidio Terrace. San Francisco's most exclusive and deadly neighborhood......
Thank you for the advance copy,
#Netgalley, #Kristin Miller, and # Random House-Ballantine 💜🐾🐾
DNF - Did not finish. I did not connect with the writing style or plot and will not be finishing this title. Thank you, NetGalley and Publisher for the early copy!
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives introduced you to three friends: Brooke, Georgia, and Erin. One is new to the neighborhood and writes mystery books, one is a rumored black widow, and the other is a famous news anchor and a strict rule follower. Each person intrigued me in their own way. Especially when it came down to their marriages.
Now this book definitely screamed Desperate Housewives to me. It also seemed like every person had their own dirty secrets. Which made it hard to figure out who to trust and who to not. I was definitely suspicious of every little thing throughout the book. Mostly because it just didn't seem like things happen coincidentally.
One would think once things started to slowly reveal that I would be less confused. Well, no, that didn't actually happen until I was almost at the end. All the action and twists in the second half of the book just kept messing with my head. Definitely in a good way because it kept the pages turning and I had no idea how it was all going to end.
In the end, this was definitely entertaining like the TV show I mentioned earlier. I also liked how everything tied up into a pretty bow within the last few chapters too. I'll definitely be on the lookout for another one of Kristin's books!
I enjoyed this book! The interplay between the women getting to know each other was fun. I recommend to people who enjoys prime time dramas, soap operas etc.
This book was…DELICIOUS! I know that’s an odd word to describe a book, but oh what fun I had with this one. The books is written from the POV of three different wives and I loved that so I could read what each character was really thinking/feeling. Story is Brooke is the new one to move onto the prestigious neighborhood of Presidio Terrace. She becomes friends with her neighbors Georgia and Erin but soon discovers not everything or everyone is what they seem. This a perfect beach read but it would also make such a fun and twisty mini series! Netflix, you’re up!!
This is one of the rare books that threw me for a loop. There was a surprise twist at the end that I definitely did not see coming.
It's never easy being the new person in town. Not knowing anybody can be stressful in and of itself, but moving into a neighborhood riddled with trophy wives is another world entirely.
Brooke tries her hardest to fit in while still being the wife that Jack expects. Her new friends seem nice enough, but soon after Brooke starts to suspect that some if not all are harboring dangerous secrets. Secrets that not only intrigue her, but also her muse as well.
Trying to fit in Brooke tries to help where she can. Tries to be the good neighbor that is expected in Presidio Terrace, but is it really worth the risk?
Another delicious suburban thriller.
This was such a fun read and totally not what I expected. Brooke and Jack move into a mansion in an exclusive gated community. Brooke is a mystery writer, and wife #2 to rich Jack who expects perfection. Brooke befriends besties Erin, a news anchor quite full of herself married to a handsome plastic surgeon and Georgia, dubbed ‘Black Widow’ because her first 2 husbands have turned up dead and is planning her wedding to #3. Who did it? Will it happen again? Are these women for real? Sucks you in from the beginning scene in a hospital room till the ending.
Told in the voices of all 3 women, not necessarily likable characters. This is what a summer read is all about. Absolutely a fun read!
This book told the story of Trophy Wives-- that is women who may or may not have a job, and are often much younger than their spouses. They are super rich, and super elite. Our main character, Brooke, is the new wife of a tech billionaire, and a mystery writer in her own right. They move to the super exclusive neighborhood, and befriends Erin and Georgia, two women shrouded in mystery themselves. Brooke becomes fascinated, especially with Georgia, who is rumored to have killed her previous two husbands. On the bring of marrying her third husband, he disappears, and the rumors swirl about what may have happened to him as well.
This book is very dark, and has a lot of twists and turns that are completely unexpected. The twist at the end is definitely one that I would not have ever guessed, and was pretty shocking. I really enjoyed reading this book, and have recommended it to my circle of friends and beyond already.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Presidio Terrace is the place to live.. especially if you are a modern day housewife.. Brooke Davies is the newest neighbor and she happens upon a neighborhood with quirky rules and even quirkier people. They all seem to have secrets & they seem to know each other’s business.. Brooke is a writer and even she couldn’t come up with these characters. Of course she has her own secrets and no one is perfect.. But. Will she be able to keep her private life private? She meets Erin King a famous newscaster and Georgia St Claire, an apparent Black Widow. These woman let a Brooke right in and show her the tricks of the neighborhood. Their husbands each have set their expectations and each wife tries her best to keep them happy. As the story progresses we see just how each woman is living their best life. Georgia has had two husbands both who passed away. Most people think she had a hand in it but no one could prove it. Now she is engaged again and everyone wonders what will happen to him.
Brooke’s marriage is strange to say the least and she finds her new friendships are helping her deal with it. Erin is trying to keep her impressive news casting job but things just keep coming up and she can’t seem to stay on track. Overall this was a four star read for me. My only complaint is that their was so much going on and I had a hard time keeping things straight. But the characters and the story were good and I enjoyed the authors writing. I read this quickly to see how it ended and I wasn’t able to figure it all out. I want to thank Netgalley & Kristin Miller for my copy for an honest review. It was a pleasure to read and review this book. I hope you enjoy it as well…
This book started out fun, but as the story developed, it just felt unrealistic. It definitely had a real housewives vibe, and fans of that type of drama may be able to better engage here. This one just wasn’t my cup of tea.
This book was enjoyable. It was a little cheesy at parts but also suspenseful and kept you guessing. It wouldn’t be my first suggestion but would recommend it.
If you like shows like The Real Housewives, you will most likely like this book. There area lot of secrets, snipping, and wealth to go around.
Don't expect much character development or seriousness. This is a good juicy and fun book.
This is perfect beach reading.... fast paced, quick witted dialog and psychologically suspenseful in a lush setting that really begs for scandal, drama and dirty little secrets. I enjoyed the story, the characters and I was drawn into their intrigue from the get go. I would recommend this read, would look for more from this Author and absolutely enjoyed & would suggest it to my reading group. Thank you for the opportunity to read in advance of publication.
“Secrets are heavy things to carry.”
“If you’re going to be two-faced, at least make sure one of them is pretty.”
“You know what they say: love and money get people killed.”
“If only I had all the time in the world to focus on what really matters: me.”
This book was so deliciously devious and sinful and I truly loved it. I feel like I can just leave these awesome quotes here and have that stand as my review 🤣🤣.
I heard this compared to The Real Housewives so I was skeptical because I don’t watch reality TV. I especially don’t watch The Real Housewives. No judgement for people who do, but that is just…ya, just no. But this book? So entertaining and so very fabulous!
Thank you to Netgalley, Ballantine Books, and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Loved how juicy this book was. The characters are all suspicious and you can't be who to trust. I was sucked into their world immediately and couldn't put it down. Definitely a fun ending to the novel and one I would recommend to any thriller lover.
Kristin Miller has written quite the dark, twisty psychological thriller. Part suspense and part soap opera, with with all the juicy gossipy goodness of an episode on Real Housewives, The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives is perfect for fans of quick, fast-paced reads and lots of red herrings.
The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives is a very quick read. Perfect novel to throw in your beach or pool bag and revel in the scandal of the characters' lives. The book is quick paced and enjoyable but not memorable in my opinion.
Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for my copy of the novel.
