A hot one-night stand, a surprise baby, ASL, jewish characters and the shenanigans that ensue give you all the feels. Single mom Izzy has been trying to find her son's father but didn't catch his name. Now, when she heads to work she'll discover that the man she's been looking for is now her new boss. Is there something there after all this time? If only there wasn't a strick no dating policy at work they might be able to figure it out.
Will they find a way around the policy and try to re-connect? Through detailed and seamless writing readers take a journey with two people as they communicate with ASL in a way that you can easily understand, each scene moves with ease as we watch the challenges they face and progress in finding love.
It's not often you can find a great romance story where the main characters are jewish and it's not "over-the-top" and shmaltzy. This organic story is a journey of faith, family, and growth. Both Nolan and Izzy have obstacles to overcome as they navigate challenges and expectations with each other, the first being no office romances. If they can figure out how to re-connect without getting fired they might find out that there is something so amazing and worth fighthing for.
This second chance romance is sweet, fun, delightful and has a bit of spice to it. Great read with a bit of spicy. Can't wait for more!
I was incredibly surprised to find that I was reading my first romance book with a deaf leading man. I had honestly not come across any romance...actually ANY books with a deaf individual at the center of the story. Or, really, ANY part of the story. I had asked to review this book wayyyy back when and recently found it on my Kindle app.
I love romance books, this is no secret. However, I do have some things I do NOT like in my romances (usually). I do not like babies to be in my love stories. There. I said it. I don't usually like any kids in my romance books. I have liked stories where there happens to be a cute kid that is probably used to move the plot along. So, see? I'm not completely immune to liking something with a child in it. So, I was pretty skeptical going into this story (let's choose to ignore the part where I requested this book to review).
To say I enjoyed this story is a true understatement. I loved all of it! I loved that Izzy and Nolan show us another side of what might happen from a one night stand. I love that Izzy is a strong-willed character who is unafraid to realize that just because she is strong, does not mean she wouldn't love someone by her side. And Nolan. Aw, sweet, oblivious Nolan. He tries. He tries SO HARD. I cannot fault a character who tries as much as him.
Overall, what is enjoyable about this story is that these characters are flawed. Deliciously, sweetly, heartbreakingly flawed. And I loved them for it.
Wow I'm just stunned with how good this title was. I just had so much fun reading this title and getting to along for the ride with these amazing characters. I'm so excited to see what's next from this author.
About That Night is a sequel to the Matzah Ball Surprise- which was a wonderful and inclusive book with a Deaf and Jewish lead. This book is very similar- it features Izzy, a hearing woman who has a one night stand with Nolan, who is deaf. They lose track of each other until they are thrown together at her new job..... and surprise, they have a kid together.
The story is sweet, about Nolan learning to become a father and figuring out what he wants in life; and Izzy showing truly what its like to be a working mom.
Highly recommend this fast read.
About That Night is an entertaining and well written romance. A great plot with good character dynamics. I recommend this book.

Izzy found herself pregnant and mystified by her one night stand. Only the one night stand has her up at night making bottles and changing diapers. Never knowing his name, Izzy moved on but still remembered the man she will never forget until she sees him face to face. He is her new boss and she must tell him about their son. This is a cute romance that is good for those wanting a light read but also those that would like to see some of the day to day living in the deaf communities.
Single mother and recent college graduate Isabel (Izzy) Fineberg found herself in a very awkward situation as the story began. She had just landed her dream internship with an agency providing services for the deaf community and hoped that it would turn into a permanent position, but when she arrived for her first day of work, she discovered that her new boss, Nolan Holtzman, was the man with whom she'd had a one-night stand 18 months earlier, leading to her accidental pregnancy. Izzy had always hoped to find her son Archie's father and tell him about the baby, but the circumstances were far from ideal given their working relationship and the fact that their employer had a strict policy in place prohibiting employees from dating each other.
Despite her misgivings, Izzy did eventually tell Nolan the truth about baby Archie, though they had to continue keeping the secret from their co-workers. At first, Nolan struggled with the idea of becoming a father because of his own rough childhood, but I appreciated that he didn't run away from his responsibilities, instead making a sincere effort to do the right thing. Archie was a super cute, happy baby, and it was fun seeing Nolan learn how to interact with and care for him. He made his share of mistakes along the way, but he did a good job of making up for them, and I loved seeing his love for both Archie and Izzy grow.
The author did a good job of portraying Izzy's struggles as a single mother before Nolan came back into her life; I don't think she would have survived without the incredible support of her sister Gaby and future brother-in-law Levi, who often helped her care for Archie. Gaby and Levi were featured in the first book of this series, which I haven't yet read, but it sounds as if their love story was every bit as interesting as Izzy and Nolan's. I plan to pick it up as soon as I find the time.
Overall, I enjoyed "About That Night" and recommend it for all contemporary romance fans. It was the first book I've read by this author, but it certainly won't be the last.

Izzy and Nolan had a one-night stand. Unlike some one-night stands, neither of them could forget the other. Nolan couldn’t forget Izzy because something about him stirred something in him. Izzy couldn’t forget Nolan because he had given her a son.
A year and a half later, they meet again when they find out that Nolan is Izzy’s new boss. Is the old connection still there and how will Nolan react when he finds out that he has a son?
When I first heard about this story and how it has Deaf representation, I knew I immediately needed to get my hands on it. There aren't nearly enough stories like this and definitely need to be more. This one was absolutely amazing. Well-written, authentic, and everything a romance should be.
Nolan and Izzy's relationship is interesting to watch unfold. Knowing the lengths Izzy went through to find Nolan for the sake of their son Archie. I appreciated how it wasn't a secret baby scenario like it usually is, but that she didn't know how to find him and made the effort to locate him after their one night stand. Nolan doubts himself and his ability to be a good father, but he needed to give himself more credit.
About That Night was perfection. The romance was swoonworthy, the characters were fleshed out, and Deaf culture (from what I could tell) felt like it was done right. Can't wait to read another book by Laura Brown!
About That Night is the second book in the Matzah Ball Surprise series, but it was fine as a stand-alone. It was well written with a storyline that was developed. The characters were genuine and interesting. It was a short book but a sweet romance.
Izzy Fineberg found herself pregnant after spending one night with a hot Deaf man. She did not catch the man’s entire name since she was still learning ASL. Now she is starting a new job at a Deaf agency and finds out her new boss is the father of Archie, her son, and the agency has a strict “no dating coworkers” policy.
Nolan Holtzman had never expected Izzy to show up at the agency he just started working at. Learning he was a father was a huge shock, but he was determined to be there for his son. He volunteered for Archie and Izzy to stay with him when she needed a place to stay. Both needed their jobs, so they had to keep their relationship a secret.
Another amazing book by this author. I will read everything she writes. An enjoyable storyline, fantastic characters and some amazing chemistry. 5 stars.
Cute story. One night stand, accidental pregnancy , single parent, second chance at love. Lizzie had a drunken night at a ASL function. She didn’t a name so when she realized she was pregnant she didn’t know where to look. 2 years later she walks into the office of het new job and there he is. Nolan left town and started a new job in NY. Now he is back. The girl from his one night stand wasn’t far from his mind. Imagine his surprise when he sees her at his new job. A even bigger surprise, she had his son.Nolan is not you typical hero. He is good looking but a little nerdy and insecure. He is always messing something up. I love the ASL storyline. The fact that Nolan was deaf was written smoothly into the storyline. The author paid attention to details that the average hearing person would not think about. Even those details did not detract from the story. Lizzie was raising Archie on her own but her sister was her support system. Again the reality of being a young, single parent was shown in scenes. I like how realistic the author made things.
Izzy and Nolan had a one night and wouldnt you know the condom didnt work and 9 months later comes archie. 9 months after his birth she starts a new job and is introduced to the one and only Nolan. Once she told him about that night he was determined to be there for his son. He thought he was nothing but a mistake so he backed away but in the end he made sure that being deaf was never going to get in the way.
I really enjoyed this book. It included a cute baby, a second chance story. And I believe this is the first book that I have read that included a deaf character in a romance. I loved how the writer included ASL into the story.. Great writer with well developed characters!
I received an advance copy from the publisher for a voluntary, honest review!
A thrown together family faces challenges at every corner, but the rewards are just too hard to overlook. This sweet romance that was also full of angst was perfectly put together. I loved little Archie, he added just the right spice and humor. Provided by NetGalley.
A cute read that mixes some tropes. Izzy and Nolan had a one-night stand going their separate ways after it, but there are more than good memories out of it, ergo, hello baby Archie.
Well-written with imperfect characters that you can relate to, their mistakes, their strength, their attraction, and their road to a HEA.
I had never read a book with one of the MCs being deaf and it was so eye-opening the way the author gave, at least to me, an introduction to the deaf community.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book received from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Two adorable books in a row? How about YES. This was so cute! I really love the representation for the deaf community!
The child was absolutely adorable. (If ya didnt know, I love children! They are soooooo cute 🥺). Their relationship was so cute. I love how short and quick it was!

All it took was one night and Izzy Fineberg found herself pregnant but she never got the handsome man's name. She stayed in the area hoping to run into him again but no luck. Luckily her sister and her fiance, have helped Izzy navigate the last few months of being a single parent.
Nolan Holtzman thought he'd never see Izzy again, often thinking of their short time together. Now here she is the recent hire and they'll be working together. The no dating policy means he'll have to keep his distance from her. Nothing can prepare him for the news Izzy delivers about the results of their one night together.
When Izzy and their son need a place to stay, Nolan invites them to his home. And all this time together is not helping calm down their attraction.
I really enjoyed this sweet little romance. That our main characters had met before was interesting because they still had an attraction to one another, and both wanted to keep their dream job helping the Deaf community. This is a good palate cleanser between books. Definitely worth a shot.
Thanks to Entangled Publishing, NetGalley, and the author for this ARC copy to review.
Izzy spent one night with a sexy stranger and it changed the course of her life. She has now found that she was going to be a single mother and had no way of contacting the father as their sign language communication wasn’t as clear as it should have been. With the help of her family, she has finished school and is ready to start her new job only to find out that her baby’s father is also her co-worker.
Nolan has worked hard to overcome the mistakes of his past so finding out Izzy is not only his co-worker but that they have a child together is a surprise he wasn’t expecting. He is struggling to not only deal with the uncertainty that due to no role model he doesn’t have the skill set to be a father but also the fact that their relationship could mean the end of one or both of their jobs if it is discovered.
This is a touching story about the challenges that not only the people who are deaf face but those that are closest to them as well. I enjoyed seeing them maneuver not only their relationship with their son Archie but with each other as well.
This was a sweet story with a very cute baby. There are no surprises and what little conflict there is was manufactured mainly by Nolan and Izzy's overdramatic reactions. I did love the representation of the deaf community and Izzy teaching Archie to sign from birth. The story was predictable but even knowing where it was going to end up I still enjoyed the ride..
