Loved reading this book. Amazing story and the characters lend to the charm of this book. I would highly recommend this book. You would not be disappointed.
Due to personal reasons I have altered the genres I am reviewing and I will not be finishing this book. I'm sure it is an enjoyable read however it is not for me.
I received the book from netgalley for my honest review. I have never read books from Loree before. This book about Amish man looking for help in more mays then he knew. This was a delight to read.
Beautiful story of finding love again. Widowed father of 3. A sweet woman comes to help him and his family. Absolutely beautiful story. God sent her to help him when he needed it most.
I absolutely loved this book. I’ve read many Amish fiction books and this is one of the best I’ve read. The main character, Bethel Mast, gives this story both heart and hope. Bethel has faced some difficult, unfair situations in her life. She hopes that her marriage of convenience to Aaron Bontrager will give her a life of peace and a place to belong. Aaron is a widower with three young children who help and stability in the home. Aaron goes into the marriage with Bethel with the intentions of treating her in a kind, respectful manner. Neither of them is expecting any more than that from this marriage, but love has a way of slowly knitting two hearts together. The children in this story are adorable and add some extra depth to the story. If you love Amish fiction, don’t miss this one!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Loving Mrs. Bontrager was a wonderful story! I loved the way Bethel put everything into caring for this family. Her sweet attitude toward her husband and children and the way she worked hard to be there for them and turn their house back in to a home endeared her to the entire family.
Through conversations peppered within the story, the reader learns what Aaron’s life with his first wife was like, as well as the horrible situation that Bethel had been rescued from. This information made both of the characters even more special to me and made the fact that they were beginning to fall for each other very sweet.
This story was so enjoyable to read from the first page to the last. I had not read any other books in this series, yet I had no problem jumping in and reading this one.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Loving Mrs. Bontrager by Loree Lough is a heartwarming Amish novel. Bethel Mast arrives in Pleasant Valley, Maryland to become Aaron Bontrager’s wife. Aaron has been struggling since the death of his wife to run his business, his home, and to take care of his three rambunctious children. Aaron’s brother-in-law suggested Bethel to Aaron as the perfect solution. Aaron made sure that Bethel understood that the marriage is an arrangement only. Bethel soon restores order to the chaotic Bontrager household. Her sweet, gentle nature soon begins to make changes on the children’s hearts. Bethel wonders if Aaron could ever find a way to love her as well. Loving Mrs. Bontrager is the third book in A Little Child Shall Lead Them series. While it is part of the series, it reads as a standalone. Loving Mrs. Bontrager is one of those stories that you do not want to put down. I started reading it before bed and I found myself staying up late because I did not want to stop. I thought the characters were developed and realistic. My heart went out to Bethel and Aaron. I was amazed at Bethel’s sweet nature considering what she has experienced. We never know what really goes on inside a family’s home. We only see what they let us. In Loving Mrs. Bontrager, we get a peak behind the doors. The children were great characters as well. The three kids were so different, but they were similar in their need for love and acceptance. It was a great touch that the author had the sibling’s bicker. She made them like real-life siblings. I wish I could accomplish a fraction of what Bethel managed to get done in a day. She is a whirlwind who does great things with very little. I thought Bethel had the patience of a saint. I do not know how she held her tongue at times. Loving Mrs. Bontrager is special, wholesome Amish novel with great life lessons. I had two phrases from the book that I wanted to share. The first is, “What Englishers—what anyone else thinks—is unimportant. He is the only being we need to impress.” The other phrase I wanted to share is, “With the right mindset, a person can accomplish much.” Loving Mrs. Bontrager is a heartfelt tale with busy boys, a demanding mill, a massive mess, colossal amounts of laundry, a sweet story, a startling lodger, and one good-natured woman.
Let's start this off with, I loved this story and couldn't put it down once I started it. The characters walked off the page and touched my heart, from Aaron's three children, to the featured couple, Aaron and Bethel.
Aaron Bontrager has been doing his best for the last two years to care for his grieving children and to run his successful sawmill. His community believes that what he needs is another wife, but his experience with his first one wasn't all that positive, so he isn't sure he wants that. When his brother-in-law recommends his cousin, Bethel Mast, for the position, Aaron is desperate enough to finally see the wisdom in the suggestion. A few letters, and a couple of phone calls later, and Beth is on her way to Maryland with a proposal of in-name-only marriage on the table.
For her part, Bethel needs to escape both her father and her brother's abuse. Because of a crippled leg, she doesn't have a lot of hope of finding a husband and having a family in her home community. Aaron's offer seems like it was God-ordained. She's been treated like a slave by her own family ever since her mother died. Can she make a place for herself in the Bontrager family, by showing them the love she's kept bottled up for years?
Loree Lough has crafted a story of both love and redemption. It was a little jarring to find an Amish community where driving a truck, or using electricity were normal, but I know from experience that there are as many interpretations of the Amish Ordnung as there are communities. Aaron's New Order Amish was just as foreign to Beth, who grew up Old Order. Aaron's children were easy to fall in love with, except possibly, for Sam who was determined not to like Beth. She learned early on that love was what all of them needed to break down their barriers, and she had plenty to give.
I gave this one all the stars because I felt the story was well-worth the time I spent reading it. Lough has long been a favorite author of mine, and this story did not disappoint. Readers of Amish fiction will learn something about the differences between New and Old Order Amish sects. Readers of Amish romance will enjoy the slow build of Aaron and Beth's love story. I highly recommend!
I received this book free from the publisher via NetGalley, but every opinion here is MINE!
In Loving Mrs. Bontrager we follow Aaron, a widower, as he sends away for a mail-order bride. Bethel is the answer to his needs. This is a wholesome book and the characters are easy to love and route for as they struggle to become a new family.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I loved this story of Aaron and Bethel. Both of them have things in their past to overcome. I hope there is a sequel because I didn’t want this story to end. I need more!!
What would it be like to leave everything you know and marry a complete stranger? Aaron Bontrager and Bethel Mast are about to find out. Struggling widower Aaron knows that he needs someone to come to his home and help with his three grieving children. Bethel realizes this may be her only chance for a family. As the months pass, this house turns back into a home. Bethel doesn't want to take Aaron's first wives place but will he come to love her quiet and understanding ways? Will she see more than just a grieving, overwhelmed man?
I love how each of these characters come together and start healing. Bethel's quiet but joyful ways start to bring healing to home left grieving. As each starts to heal will they find a life they never knew they could? I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.
When this book first started I thought that it was set in 1800, early 1900’s, however it becomes clear that is not the case. I honestly felt this book really flowed once it got going and found it hard to put down . It seemed like I was catching up with a friend. I loved the kids in this book even though right off the bat I would have like to gone toe to toe with Sam. I loved Molly’s big heart and Matthew’s sweet spirit I felt like he and Beth were kindred spirits. I had a hard time at first understanding why Aaron chose what he choose to do with Marrying Beth but it does make sense. The author choose a tough topic and she didn’t even try and sugar coat it which was so nice it was a no holding back for sure.
While Loving Mrs. Bontrager is the third book in the "Child Shall Lead Them" series, it can easily be read as a standalone novel. There are many books written with Amish characters, but this story has its own unique spin. There are several different things going on in the story, part of Aaron and Beth's story, that make the story unique. I will not give spoilers, but I want that point to be clear.
Beth and Aaron meet for the first time when Beth gets off the train in Oakland, Maryland. Aaron had been taking care of his three children by himself since his wife died. He needed help at home to continue running his own business. Beth had her own reasons for agreeing to this marriage, sight unseen.
With engaging characters, including realistic personalities for the children, you can't help but enjoy the dialogue between the family members. The storyline is slow to build but provides you an opportunity to really know the characters. Aaron and Beth have issues with trust, in the end, will they learn to trust God and each other?
One of the things that I loved about this book is that the children bickered with each other. In so many Amish novels the children get along great, and you do not feel the children are portrayed accurately. I also enjoyed the struggles that Beth and Aaron endured, not just with each other, but with the community and in-laws, again, giving the book a more authentic feel.
I would recommend this book to those who love reading Amish stories and those who enjoy marriages of convenience. I would also recommend it to anyone who enjoys light, clean romance novels.
Thank you to Kensington and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
That was my first Amish novel, and I'm sad to say i didn't like it.
I wanted more romance, more appreciation between them, they were only talking to themselves about how they feel, they didn't have the best kind of communication, too.
What made it reading Worthy for me was the kids, they were such sweethearts, i loved how Beth treated them and cared for them.
Aaron was a little bit standoffish to me, like he knew he loved Beth from the beginning of the second half of the book, but didn't tell her till the very last chapters.
Overall, it could've been better.
*Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review*
After reading many Amish novels, the Bontrager family life seemed a little too 'worldly' to ring true. The difference between Old World Order and New World Order was interesting. I loved Bethel's positive attitude and practical nature. Bethel's past could have made her bitter, so I liked the author showing her overcoming the pain.
Ms. Lough has delivered another great book. Loving Mrs. Bontrager is well written and has great character dynamics. I recommend this book.
Super sweet story of love and redemption. You’ll fall in love with the entire family. I wish there could have been a few more details to elude to the news in the final portion of tithe story (not trying to spoil it!). Overall an easy read and fun story!
The author gives us a story that is like a breath of fresh air, a page-turner for sure, and a look at everyday life in an Amish home.
Can you imagine leaving your home and going to marry a man with children, that you have never met, and having it be a business arrangement? Not only that, but you quickly see, that the arrangement is a God send to this young woman, Bethel.
Your heart will go out to Aaron Bontrager, a struggling widower with three children, desperately needing a woman in their home. He has tried everything, and now is welcoming and hoping for the best as they make room for Bethel to come, and wait until to you see what happens!
One never knows what is going on in other peoples lives, behind closed doors, and now we are privy to some here, with many surprises. With a lot of great life lessons, you won’t want the story to end, and I was left with the feeling that I wanted to continue on with the lives of these individuals.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review
This is a sweet heartwarming book that hooks you on the first page. It is full of emotions and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. I loved reading Beth and Aaron's story and you can't help but fall in love with the three children. This is a solid 5 star read! Thank you Kensington Books via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Aaron Bontrager has been trying to raise his three children alone since the death of wife. His brother in-law suggested that his cousin Bethel from Nappanee may be the answer he needs. With letter correspondence, they come to an agreement that she will leave her father and brother and care for Aaron and his children. He will give her his name in marriage. Sounds awkward at best and barbaric at worst but has your learn the circumstances of what their journey entailed, you become emotionally involved with these two.
Bethel has to prove herself to Aaron's 3 young children. Having her own mother pass away at a young age, she knows the hurts that come with a parent gone. The oldest son Sam is not totally convinced that Bethel is an answer to prayer but the only daughter Molly is helpful and becomes Bethel sweet girl. Matthew the youngest has lost his voice ever since the death of mother and no one knows why.
The family adjusts and I love how Bethel fits herself in with service and humility. Aaron responds with respect and protection. The family bonds together has they face a terrible accident involving one of the children. It becomes the pivotal point in this fragile family. Loved the honesty of emotions and the storms that they overcame to be able to say that love cast out all fear!
A special thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
