This was a quick read, with relatable characters and a pretty chill romance between the two main characters. It was not angst filled which i appreciated, because there was other drama happening around the couple that impacted them in some way.
I enjoyed the friendship groups and the family dynamics of both main characters; they were supportive and loving, and contributed to the building of the couple's relationship.
It was a cool read.
This is my first book by the author. It’s part of a series but can be read as a standalone. While I enjoyed the story and characters, it felt like it could have gone deeper. For a book that has a motorcycle club, murder and anger issues, it felt very fluffy. I kept expecting there to be angst, and while there were intense moments, everything got resolved very quickly. And all the romance issues were resolved after a love language conversation?!
I was really hoping to read an angsty book but unfortunately, this wasn’t it.
3.75/5 stars!
The heroine has a childhood crush on the hero that she thinks will remain unrequited and thus decides to move on. Her action to do that makes the hero realize that he heroine is not only his cousin's best friend but a beautiful woman. As the two begun dating, they have to handle family, personal issues, and more as the two fall in love.
I liked this book, even though I hadn't read any of the previous books in this series. It was nice to see that the playboy hero has a heart of gold, fully committed to the heroine and his family, with the exception of a certain member that the whole family have bad past with. It was also nice to see the heroine grow stronger as life and her relationship with the hero taught her new traits about herself. I also liked the dynamics between the heroine and her parents as well as the closeness in the hero's brotherhood, flaws and all. I did wanted more details in certain parts of the story but that's a personal preference of mine. Overall, this was enjoyable book and I look forward to reading more Gillian Archer books in the future.
**Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.**
I really enjoyed this story!
It was a fast paced book that kept my interest from the start through to the brilliant ending. The book had everything that I look for in a good read, it was well written, had an additive plot and strong, well developed characters who had some brilliant interaction.
I thought that it was an interesting storyline, well developed and I loved the little twists as the book progressed. It was a wonderful read and one that I thoroughly enjoyed! It is part of a series but this one is fine to read as a stand alone.
It was fast, furious., sexy and romantic – and after all, doesn’t everyone loves a handsome biker! It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!
Since I already had read a Bad Boy book of Gillian, I was very happy to see another of the Burns brothers falling in love. With his little sister’s best friend no less. The bantering between the Burns brothers is hilarious and of course the B@dass bikers series which is recorded at the garage is funny as hell: with the job interviews for the new receptionist and their fans. And now Nathan has finally realized that his little sister has grown up, just as her best friend Maddie, who is certainly looking very apetizing in her ienieminie bikini.
Trying to stick to the ‘your-sisters-friends-are-off-limits’ code of honor, is getting more difficult by the minute. Especially since Maddie is currently camping on Nathan’s brothers couch, since her appartment was vandalized. And when Nathan finds Maddie’s profile on a dating app, all bets are off: he will teach her the dangers of online dating. Because nobody is good enough for Maddie. Not even Nathan himself.
Just as Maddie has decided to get over her lifelong crush on her sister’s big brother, he decides to finally make a move. But for how long? So, Maddie decides to take advantage of the situation, but to avoid losing her best friend, she demands that Nathan will keep their affair quiet. Well…. nothing ever is simple at the Burn’s brothers… So, this will explode for certain. But not in the way that Nathan and Maddie had expected. Fun, suspense and sparks flying! Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc. And I will be going back fo the other Burns Brothers stories!
I was so excited to see another book in the Burn brother's series was releasing. I can't get enough of these guys!
Maddie has been in love with Nathan since they were kids, but to him she was just another little sister. Then his eyes are opened and they start dating and fall in love. It wasn't that easy though. There's family drama...lots of family drama...works issues, friends, but it all works out in the end with a little help from Shakespeare.
This was another exciting, fun addition to the Burns Brothers series. I have loved getting to know each brother a little more in each story. I would definitely recommend to others.
This is book 4 in this series about the Burns family. The first 3 books are about how Austin, Ryan and Sabrina get their happily ever after. Austin is the oldest, Ryan is the peacekeeper and Sabrina is the only girl in this brood. This is Nathan's book.
Maddie Roberts is Sabrina's best friend. She has been in love with Nathan since she was six and her family moved down the street from the Burns kids. She is now 26 and is a librarian, but is having some issues with her job and living situation. She ends up sleeping on the another Burn's brothers couch. Which happens to be right next door to Nathan. And this is how Nathan finally realizes that Maddie has grown up and he may be interested in her.
Usually in this type of storyline, the heroine has either grown out of her infatuation or has a moment where she says "I'm moving on, he is not into me." But Maddie never has this moment, and for some reason this feels less satisfying for me. I love the beginning when Nathan realizes he is interested in his little sister's best friend, and I loved the last 40% of the book.
I found Maddie to be really annoying at times while I was reading the book. She kept insisting she was an adult and telling her parents to treat her as thus, but she would treat her mother really mean! You don't get to get away with that when you are 26. But what I found really ingenious was how the author gave her a realistic flaw and provided an opportunity for growth. Maddie allows what her friends tell her about herself and any possible relationship she might have with Nathan to influence how she behaves. In the middle of the book it was frustrating to watch her spiral, but at the end it felt very realistic and fullfilling. It was quite lovely.
It was a bit slow in the beginning and a lot of insta love on his part.
I read this without reading any of the other books in the series. I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything on that front. Instead it felt stand alone. Now I may go back and read the other ones.
Overall it was quite the story with lots of drama but not between the couple. They were solid from moment one.
I was super happy to get a copy of this Book through NetGalley in exchange for a review, which I am happy to provide.
I have been a fan the series and Gillian Archer from the beginning and I could not wait to get started on the latest creation. I love the Burn brothers and now its finally Nathan's turn, though he has known Maddie for some 20 years he never saw her in a romantic light, but that is all ready to change. In a perfect world I would have liked for that process to take a little longer, not just one look and now she is GF material, but they have good chemistry, perhaps the book was a bit predictable but it was still a fun read for me. You don't have to read the books in order, but I would still recommend it since this way you get to meet the whole family and see how it all got started. I can't wait for Dylan's story.
You get your typical bad boy experience a bit here, hot-headed biker guy and everything. BUT Nathan is actually one of the most adorable MCs I've ever read about. He is really good to Maddie, and for Maddie. Some of these "bad boy" romances can get very toxic but not this one. There's a hearty dose of the "misunderstood bad boy" trope here and it works well!
AND, AND, the topic of love languages comes up! The MCs misunderstand each other and some of the other characters point out that they may have misunderstood each others' Love Language and that the actions in question were not meant how they seemed. I did not expect that from a book like this, tbh I was just looking for a quick and gritty romance to read as a light distraction but this book delivered more than that and I was pleasantly surprised!
There's some family drama of course, so much fluff and supportive pep talks from Nathan to the very anxious Maddie, and ~spice~ as well. Loved it!!!
Burning Hot! Nathan Burns finally opens his eyes and sees the girl that has been in his life for years, his sister's best friend, Maddie, as a woman, a hot, sexy woman he is enamored with.
Maddie is one you fall in love with in previous books in this series; therefore, I would recommend reading this book as part of the series rather than a standalone to get the enter emotional feel of this book. Maddie is a rat hole apartment and moves in with Nathan's brother, Dylan, rather than with Nathan. Nathan doesn't get why Maddie would rather stay on a couch than in his spare room, but he hasn't quiet got it yet that Maddie is in love with him and has been for years. His constant rejection of her as anything other than a faux sister is heartbreaking to Maddie, until he finally SEES her.
This one has all the fun, family, angst and anger of the Burns Brothers Series. This gang of brothers are rough, tough and big old softies when it comes to finding their true loves. Trouble with Dylan comes to Maddie's doorstep and Nathan's handling of the situation puts a rift in the couple that may not be fixed. Loved the drama, the tension, and the HEA.
I've enjoyed the other books in this series but this one is probably my least favorite. It didn't seem to have as much of a backstory to it as the others did. Nathan realizes that his best friend's little sister, Maddie, is all grown up one day and they can't get enough of each other. Nathan's relationship with his brothers is complicated and when Maddie and Nathan reveal they are together it puts a strain on some long term friendships. Enjoyable romance but thin plot.
Maddie has loved Nathan for practically her whole life. As his little sisters’s (really his cousin, but raised as siblings) best friend Maddie has been there for all the good and bad times in his life, almost as if she too was part of the family, even to the point of going to the weekly family dinner, but what happens when he realizes there’s more to Maddie than meets the eye. Maddie has just about given up hope that there’s ever going to be a chance for her and Nathan when a chance date opens up opportunity. But will Nathan’s alpha male, always have to be in charge lifestyle overwhelm Maddie, or give her the freedom to finally find happiness. The heat between these two leads starts with a slow simmer before quickly reaching a boiling point. Nathan’s attitude can be overwhelming at times but given his history his take-charge nature is understanding. This is book four in the series, and while you don’t have to read the other Burn’s siblings stories to enjoy this one you will have a better understanding. There’s a nice blend of heat and tenderness making this a nice quick read. 4.5 stars. I received an arc copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review.
This is a DNF, skimmed to the end , for me. I tried several times to get into the book but had a hard time with the characters. They both seemed very immature to me Despite being friends for 20 years they didn't have a connection. They were afraid to open up and had too many secrets.

Can’t get enough of the Burns brothers! After getting to know Maddie in the previous installment in this series, I was so excited to see her finally get what she has always wanted as she’s been in love with Nathan Burns since the day she met him. Nathan is truly an explosive individual, which is understandable knowing what he went through at a young age but has met his match in Maddie when she puts her foot down and doesn’t give him what he wants. Always looking to immediately fix things, Nathan doesn’t realize how grown Maddie is until she right in front of him, and when he finds her on a hookup app, he decides to take his shot. It’s comical how Nathan thinks he’s being stealthy trying to conceal his identity, but Maddie has been so in love with him she knows who he is right away and decides it’s a sign to shoot her shot. While I loved that these two finally got together, I found myself more intrigued with Dylan and what’s going on with him as his trouble and problems are what’s causing trouble for Maddie, which brings Nathan to the rescue. While we get most of those answers at the end of this book, I am eager to see what happens in the next installment to Dylan and the backlash it causes. In regard to Maddie and Nathan, I found myself so excited that she got her HEA with the boy of her dreams and that all the heartache was worth it in the end. Can’t wait for the next book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
ARC read on Netgalley for honest review.
What happens when you finally notice your younger sister's bestie who happens to of had a crush on you since she was five? This is book 4 in The Burns Brothers series, I haven't read the first three books but found this worked well as a standalone but now want to know more about everyone else's background so will be picking them up soon.
I read book three in the Burns Brothers series nearly a year ago now. When I saw that instalment number four was available to read and review, I jumped a the chance. I enjoyed the last one so much and although these are part of a series, you don't have to have read the other books. In fact, I haven't read the first two (yet).
Torque deals with second oldest Burns brother, Nathan. His little sister's best friend has been in love with him since she was six years old, but he hasn't a clue. When he suddenly notices that she's not a kid anymore and takes notice of the woman that she's become, he soon begins to see her in a different light.
Nathan is one of those characters who is both loveable and annoying. He seems completely clueless to the effect that he's had on Maddie all these years. His brothers can clearly see how they both feel about each other, this isn't a one-way thing, he just hasn't realised it.
I really enjoyed reading about their growing relationship and how they both come to terms with expressing their feelings for the other. Nathan has a tendency to be overbearing and combined with Maddie's attempts to people please, it could be a recipe for disaster. This is a couple that clearly works well together even if they have a few outside issues to deal with too first.
Having enjoyed this book and the previous one so much, I've gone and downloaded book one in the series. I'll be enjoying that one too soon. Overall, another great instalment in an enjoyable and entertaining series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I was the younger sister who always had crushes on my older siblings' friends so it is not surprise that I am drawn to romances where the little sister grows up and finally gets her man. There wasn't a lot of push and pull in this one. Nathan just looks at Maddie one day, realizes she is hot, and is all in. The real conflicts in this story come from Maddie's insecurity and trying to figure out what the heck Nathan's brother has gotten himself into. It doesn't make for a super satisfying plot but it was still a read in one sitting book. It was fun being back with these characters, especially now that they have grown up some. Not my favorite book in this series but I am still planning to read the next book as soon I can get my hands on it.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I liked this book a lot, even without reading the first two stories in the series. I assume they are all about the different brothers each getting their own romance and having missed out on Austin and Ryan's story I'm not really that upset. Sometimes I like walking into a story with established couples as the side characters.
I did like watching Nathan fall for Maddie, even if it did stem completely from lust. That's the only thing that I wish had been slightly different, but when you've known someone basically your whole life and only seen them one way I suppose there has to be something that sets you off on the track of seeing them romantically. I also appreciated the use of love languages and the fact that something when you and your partner have differing love languages it takes some getting used to to completely sync together. It's rare to even find mention of love languages in books, let alone an author making the characters work through them.
I'm looking forward to Dylan's story.
I’ve plowed through this series in a matter of days. That’s how much I’m loving the Burns brothers and their family. And I couldn’t wait to see how Nathan and Maddie finally manage to get together. I was absolutely not disappointed in their story.
Maddie’s luck just keeps right on giving lately. The only problem? It’s all bad. And since she’s clearly never going to be seen as anything other than a little girl in Nathan’s eyes, it’s time to move on. Or so she thinks. Because Nathan finally clues into what his head has refused to acknowledge and decides he’s DEFINITELY going after the woman he wants. Once Nathan convinces Maddie to take a chance on him, the hard work really starts. Nathan has to respect Maddie’s wishes to remain low-key to avoid drama, when he really wants to shout from the rooftops that Maddie is his woman. And Maddie needs to figure out if she’s really the doormat her friends apparently see her as and if she can withstand all that is Nathan’s love. So when it all hits the fan, watching both of them try to make sense of the problems, how to solve them, and how to make it right with each other is interesting, to say the least.
I love how this series just keeps giving me relatable, lovable, frustrating characters. You know, like a family really is. And now I can’t wait to see what’s up Dylan’s sleeve, because I know it’s got to be something good.
