I LOVE the idea of a chapter for every day in December!! This book gave me all the holiday romcom feels in spades!! The story was so engaging and each chapter was so perfect that I found myself unable to put the book down this week!
This is the kind of book that leaves you with so much hope and positivity for the future. I love imagining how Belle and Rory could possible top their December and only wish that there was going to be a continuation or an epilogue to give me a little bit more of the story! Nonetheless it was actually quite perfect the way it is and I'm feeling ready for the holidays in the middle of Summer and excited for everyone else to read this lovely book!!
I really loved this book and couldn’t put it down! I enjoyed the relationship Belle had with Marsha and felt it really allowed us to get to know Belle. I loved that she was such a hard worker, things hadn’t just fallen into her lap. I loved Rory’s mum too. The only part I didn’t really like was how awful Belle’s family were to her and she kept on going back for more!
How wonderful this book is.
Full of festiveness and a thoroughly enjoyable plot it’ll tick all your boxes for a great Christmas read.
I really enjoyed this book, felt it had a slow start, I loved that it was in days and in chapters and we got each characters perspective on how they felt, the characters were likeable and well written, I look forward to more from this author
2.5 stars
This is the first Christmas book I've read in a bit and it did make me miss the season. I love cold weather and snow, plus the lights, food, and good spirits people are usually in. Unless you're Rory, who lost someone five years ago and now cannot stand Christmas. Luckily he keeps running into his old friend Belle and she absolutely adores the holiday and makes it her mission to show Rory what he's missing.
The story was pretty cute and I liked the friends to lovers plot. Belle is a fun character who keeps a positive attitude even when things aren't going well for her. She's great with kids and her enthusiasm is infectious. Rory is a bit of a downer, but he's a nice guy and tries to help Belle with getting her dream job started. They're playful together and have some sweet moments and I liked seeing Rory open up.
I thought the pacing was much too slow and this felt like a longer book than it actually was. I needed more romance or maybe not to read about each day of the month, since some didn't have content that furthered the plot. I was also pretty upset with one of the characters for saying terrible things. It was hard for me to forgive that and I wanted more of an apology.
The last thing that bugged me was Belle's relationship with her family. They treated her horribly, saying she was worthless and stupid. None of them ever apologized, yet Belle kept forgiving them and letting her family be in her life. These people were so toxic and I was disappointed that nothing was resolved there.
I thought this was an okay holiday story and it did it's job of getting me in a holiday spirit. I just wish some of the problems were resolved in a better and healthier way.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. Thank you to Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for the copy
I adored this story. It’s the perfect mix of romance and all things Christmassy.
I want Belle to be my new best friend - her zest for life and love of Christmas obviously makes her the brilliant choice. She has such a great personality and needs to give herself far more credit than she does for inspiring everyone around her. I loved her relationship with Martha, so wonderful and warm and I loved how she opened up when they’re together.
The use of the whole month of December to build the friendship between Rory and Belle was very clever and allowed us to see first hand how they got to know one another again. A brilliant story and one that I’ll look to reread each year at Christmas time.
Every Day In December was so so warm and brought so much joy. I first thought it was going to be just a light hallmark book but it turned out to have so much more depth to it. Belle and Rory each had flaws but we’re still endearing characters who really came to life. Their difficult family situations added some darker tones, but made it that much more interesting.
The only but I didn’t like was that I wanted a little bit more of the sweet ending.

This NetGalley review is given of my own free will in exchange for an early release reading for an honest review. This is the perfect love story to restore your faith in humanity and healing. We follow MCs Belle and Rory as they are both trying to overcome things- Belle with self doubt and Rory with survivor’s guilt- while bonding together in friendship. Belle vows to help Rory find joy in Christmas, whilst Rory assists Belle with her true passion of Shakespeare education. There is a happily ever after in this tale and it is worth your time to read!
V-e-r-y slow build🙄
This romance started out well and with a good deal of humor, in large part thanks to a five-year old munchkin with decided views named Marsha. But I found the story very slow going and by mid-December I was sort of dreading another two weeks of internal debate from Bella and Rory and yes, yes he will (ah, no he didn't). Rory, the male lead, was just too wrapped up in his head for way too long. And the ending climactic encounter just did not work for me. So much anticipation and I felt left down.
There were good, fun, winter moments as Bella shares her joie de vive and love of the Christmas season with Rory and young Marsha, but on balance the story had too much cerebral action and not enough romance for my taste.
Thanks to Harper Collins UK/One More Chapter and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Thanks Harper Collins UK for the gifted copy.
Every Day in December is a cute friends to lovers holiday story. Belle loves Christmas, Rory doesn't. He tries to help her with her Shakespeare project, and she tries to help him love Christmas.
It's a slow burn, and I'm not sure if it's because it's the middle of August, or if the story is just SLOW, but I ended up skimming about 60% of the book.
Not my favorite, unfortunately. I might try to read it again around Christmas.
Belle and Rory, who knew each other from their student days, meet up again by chance. Both suffering for different reasons, can they help each other? Belle loves Christmas but Rory doesn't, will the Christmas magic help them find happiness? I loved the fact that each chapter focuses on a different day in December. Real friendship develops between them and you can't help but be excited about what might happen. A truly lovely Christmas read.
I loved this book! I thought the characters were great, especially the main character, Belle. The plot was engrossing and fun. I was so eager to see what would happen next. I just couldn’t put it down. Belle is a single thirty something who has not quite found her pathway in life. She has a huge project that she works on about Shakespeare. It is her passion, but she has no idea how to use it to make a living. She meets an old college friend, Rory. Belle hasn’t seen him for years as he has been living in Australia, but she knows he has a tragedy in his past. The friends reconnect right before Christmas. This novel has everything I love with a great sprinkling of Christmas cheer. I enjoyed every second of it. Thanks to Harper Collins UK One Moe Chapter and Netgalley for an ARC of this novel.
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Every Day in December was a pretty cute Christmas book to dive into. After meeting Belle, it was pretty obvious that her family life sucked Dominick the donkey's balls. I was not a fan of any of them for the entire book.
For example, the way her dad talked like she wasn't even in the room pissed me off. Then there's the way he talked down to her and her mother. Constantly. Yeah, no - he needed to go. I will say that I give her props for finally standing up to this douche canoe but it also took way too long in my eyes.
It could just be me though.
Then there's Rory, who hurt my heart by hating the month of December. I mean who hates a whole freaking month? A season? Maybe - I'm basing this off of my own dislike of Summer (blegh the heat!). People born in December? Sure, that seems possible as well. BUT A WHOLE ENTIRE MONTH? No. Just no. I don't accept.
It's my birth month people!
Of course, we learn why he doesn't like this month but I also liked seeing how Belle could get him to eventually like it. They were pretty cute together and their friendship just put a smile on my face. Eventually we get hints of a potential romance blooming between them but then drama came to ruin it. Ugh drama.
In the end, it was a cute book that definitely got me in the mood for winter. Seriously, it needs to come soon.
This book came with rave reviews but the constant Shakespeare references are just not for me. I felt I wanted to keep skipping them. The main character wasn't that likeable so didn't draw me in.
I know, I know... It is too soon to think about winter! (it is 12th August) BUT this comes out in eight days, and you definitely need to mark this as a Christmas purchase for yourself or a gift for someone who loves to read all things Christmassy!
A warm, snowy, and feel-good romance brings together adorable fighter-against-all-odds Belle and a reserved mourner-of-the-past Rory. As you have probably guessed from the title, it takes place during December. Chapters are written in day-by-day format switching between two main character POVs.
When starting to spend time together, each has their agenda. As time passes, characters become friends and reveal a pull they did not want nor thought was possible. With snowy winter adventures planned, the help of loving side characters, drama from horrible parents and sad circumstances, cute Christmas-themed romance that will not leave you indifferent blossoms. Of course, it ends with a hilarious and perfectly humiliating grand gesture!
Definitely, a reread during Christmas time for me! 😇🎄
Thanks to NetGalley, Kitty Wilson, and the publisher for providing an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. 🤗
This was a DNF for me about 1/3 of the way through. First, I think this is one of those British books that doesn’t align with my American sensibilities. It’s a quiet book with few obstacles and low stakes. Second, I just couldn’t get past the premise that the heroine thinks the hero should fall in love with December after the horrible trauma he’s experienced. He’s got real problems, and she just thinks a December miracle should make things better. Life doesn’t work that way.
This is the story of Belle and Rory. Belle ever the optimist who loves all things Christmas. Rory who no longer likes the month of December because of a loss he suffered. This pair each has their own reasons why they deny the growing attraction between them.
A great escape from all the things wrong in the world. I read this in August in the middle of yet another heat wave. The talk of December and snow made me feel slightly cooler.
The only thing I missed was some more atmospheric weather go along with it.
Thanks to netgalley and and One More Chapter for the arc
Such a lovely Christmassy story. I loved how it followed day by day through December from both perspectives. Belle is a sparkly, energetic, happy girl despite her challenging family life. I loved her relationship with her goddaughter. Rory is the sensible man with the difficult past he hasn’t moved forwards from. Seeing their relationship develop was really lovely and kept me hooked til the end. Perfect Christmas read
Every Day in December was an interesting and enjoyable novel. The story starts in a prequel-like flashback to five years ago on New Year’s Eve where the main character, Belle Wilde, is escorting her best friend, Luisa Fischer, to the hospital to deliver her first child, Marsha, as Luisa’s husband, Remi, is still on the way. While she is walking through the waiting room, she spots a devastated figure that turns out to be Rory Walters, who Belle first saw at university, but lost touch with over the years. Due to his emotional state, she does not talk to him, thinking that she would not see him again, but life had other plans.
The story returns to the present-day on December First where the reader gets an introduction into Belle’ current life. She is now 31 and working on her passion project, the Shakespeare Project, which takes all things Shakespeare and makes them accessible to people from all backgrounds and of all ages. She still close with Luisa and is godmother to Marsha and their youngest child. Unfortunately, the company that she currently works for files for bankruptcy and she is now without a job and no savings. Not only does she now have to figure out how to earn money again, she is not looking forward to the holiday portion where she has to spend time with her family. Her famous father, Nick Wilde, has many issues and her mother, Cyndi, is not much better to offer support. Her younger sister, Rose, who is married to 27 year old politician, Jack Sharp, is the clear favorite child. However, she is determined to not let all of her life obstacle damper her Christmas spirit.
Rory Walters is back in town for a month to work with a new client for his reputation management firm and to visit his family for the holidays after his mother, Allison, faces some upsetting news. He reunites with Belle as his new client is Nick Wilde. Rory remembers the initial attraction he had to Belle all those years ago, while Belle is set on helping Rory share her love of Christmas, so the two of them begin to spend time together. The story follows them each day in December all the way until December 31. The novel is told through the perspectives of both main characters, Rory and Belle. I love duel-perspective stories as it is not only nice to know what is happening as the characters are apart, but I enjoy seeing their inner thoughts as it helps me further connect with the characters.
There is a lot happening in this story as the tragedy that Rory faced five years ago is explored. Belle’s job, family, and her Shakespeare project are explored on her side. There is their shared experiences together as Rory plans to return to his home in Australia at the end of the month plus the growing attraction between them. The romance aspect of the story was very well done in this story. The attraction is not automatically told to the reader for both characters and instead the two of them begin slowly forming a friendship. The attraction grows naturally and there are many obstacles before they could start a romantic relationship. Not only are both characters dealing with their own romantic traumas from the past, but also they each have realistic fears that any attempt at a romance could ruin the friendship.
Overall, they are an excellent opposites attract pair as Belle has a lot of chaos in her life and Rory helps bring some stability and support. In turn, Belle takes Rory out of his comfort zone and shares new experiences with him. While Christmas is included in the chapters, the story covers all of December. I loved this element as it shows that the joy and difficulties that surround the whole month, not just the actual day. There is a lot of character growth for both characters that happens naturally over time. Both characters have a lot going on in this story, so many mistakes and learning experiences occur. While I loved many aspects of this story, Belle’s passion for Shakespeare was a standout and I wish her site was a reality as I love the idea of modernizing the themes and stories to make them relatable to everyone while also showing an appreciation for the original works. This was a lovely and heartwarming novel and I will definitely have to try out some more Kitty Wilson novels in the future!
**I give a special thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and the author for the opportunity to read this enjoyable novel. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.**
Belle loves Christmas and believes in its magic. Despite losing her job and a family who don’t appreciate her, Belle isn't down and looks forward to a month of celebrations.
Rory isn’t so keen on the festive season. He is haunted by the past and just wants all the festive frivolities to be over.
As Rory returns home to visit his sick mother, a chance meeting with Belle, who he knew from University begins a friendship between these two opposite characters.
As they help each other through the month of December, will their friendship blossom into something more?
I liked the way this story was told through each day of December. It was a slow burner, but a very cosy, feel good, Christmas read.
I would have liked a little more from the ending, but ultimately this is a fabulous Christmas book.
A festive four stars from me.
