I really enjoyed the writing and how the plot in this one played out. It had twists that were fun to see play out and the ending was satisfying!
Didn't love it, but I liked it. It started slow but picked up the pace. Lots of twist. Some took me by surprise. One was a jaw dropper. It was just a bit over the top
Wow, what a read! This is the first book I have read by Sarah Alderson and it definitely wont be my last! This book really sets the scene perfectly and is very enjoyable to read.
Liam and Laura are going on their honeymoon to a remote Scottish island that is completely deserted, or so they think! They get warning from locals about going to the island, but they still go anyway. They have no way off the island until they are due to be picked up, the tension in the book is amazing. It makes you feel deserted, claustrophobic, anxious, it really transports you to the island with them.
It was so expertly written, I didn't want to put it down. As the story unfolded it really kept you guessing and kept you wanting to know what was happening next.
I really liked the ending of the story, it brought everything together and was a great way to end the story, I don't want to give any of it away, it is worth a read and I highly recommend it.
What would happen when a newly married couple decides to have their honeymoon is a desert island where is only the two of them for a week: a) they will have too much fun and it will be something they will never forget or b) they will be stalked and tormented by a murderer. Unfortunately for them, their beautiful honeymoon turned into a nightmare and they must face different situations to get out of that island alive.
Main characters
Laura Carrington just got married and lost her mother, so she's very depressed, I liked her character, she's the only one who knows how to use her brain but unfortunately, she's not strong enough to confront her husband.
With this, Liam is a stubborn and strong man, who only wants to protect his wife, however, he wasn't a character that I liked, he's too hateful and despite being a policeman he doesn't seem to have a sense of survival. Since their only plan is to counterattack the stalker, but from the conditions they are in, it's more than obvious that he doesn't have the advantage in this situation.
Plot
Now, let me tell you why you should read this book, the first 50% was very good, not original but interesting, I liked the concept and above all the tension, the author knew how to handle it very well, since it was unpredictable to know what would happen in each moment. BUT after 50% the plot twist was so awesome and unpredictable, I honestly took a few minutes to process it, it was so well done, I loved it.
The ending was so satisfying, I loved it in every sense of the word, I haven't liked an ending like this so much for a long time. To be honest I was going to give it 3⭐ but the plot twist changed everything. This is definitely a book that must be read once in a lifetime.
Final thoughts
I wasn't expecting much from this book but I was completely surprised, I loved it, it has a good plot and interesting characters, I definitely recommend it.

My thanks to the author Sarah Alderson, Avon Books UK, and NetGalley for the opportunity to get this ARC for an unbiased review.
The first book I've read by this author, I was alerted by a glowing 'book of the month' rave review from the founder of one of the best Facebook book groups.
Liam and Laura are arriving for their honeymoon on a remote Scottish island. The locals said the island was haunted, but Liam and Laura will be alone for a week, staying in a luxury cottage. What could possibly go wrong?
Very quickly they get the feeling they are not alone and are being watched. The presence of The Stalker is confirmed very early on, and from that moment the book accelerates into a nerve-jangling thrill ride, full of threat and tension right to the very end.
There are big shocks and twists, very clever writing and audacious plotting.
Overall a very smooth, tense and satisfying psychological thriller.
Highly recommended and I'll definitely be looking out for more of Sarah's titles.
Thanks to Netgalley and Avon
Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
What a book. Couldn’t put it down, had me read in into the night.
Liam and Laura Carrington are newly weds about to spend their honeymoon on a remote island in Scotland after they had to cancel their original plan of a Greek honeymoon after Laura’s mom dies. Things are not all they seem and things take a turn for the worst and the honeymoon ends up turning into a nightmare. Will Liam and Laura manage to survive the week. Kept me guessing all the way through about what was going to happen.
It’s always difficult to review a book like this with out giving anything away but I did find The stalker by Sarah Alderson a good read, the story flowed really well jumping between the present and the past to give an insight of the background of the main characters and the building suspense set on the isolated Scottish island between newlyweds Laura and Liam was great and the pace never let up and the ending although a bit convoluted was satisfying.
I've read books by this author before and really enjoyed them so when this came up on NetGalley I was so grateful that they let me have a copy.
We meet Laura and Liam, newly married and off on their honeymoon to a remote Scottish island, this is their second attempt at a honeymoon so it is well needed. What should be a seemingly perfect and relaxing honeymoon turns to be somewhat of a nightmare for the newlyweds. Laura sees a figure and this sets off a string of events that is really scary and harrowing. As a reader, the author really draws you into the story and I could not wait to find out what was really occurring in this novel. There are questions that the remote island is actually haunted and the reader wonders is this a ghost story? The story is told mainly from Laura's point but there are chapters from The Stalker.
I really recommend reading this book if you love a good creepy, harrowing and scary read that will keep you up until the early hours of the morning.
Thanks to Sarah Alderson, NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to have a copy of this well thought out novel in exchange for my review.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
This story centres around Laura and Liam, who are newly weds going on honeymoon to a remote Scottish island. No one lives there and there’s no tourists. There’s only one big house on the island that the newly weds are renting for a week. There’s no way across except by boat, and no phone signal. But the boatman reassures them that there’s a satellite phone in the house to use in emergency. Laura and Liam love the first couple of days on the island, and enjoy exploring an abandoned castle, and the beach. But Laura is sure she keeps seeing someone out the corner of her eye, and she has lots of times where she feels someone’s eyes watching her. Things start to get really creepy and her new husband also starts to realise there’s someone else on the island. Liam is a detective so is full or bravado about being able to protect her no matter what, and works out a plan to make sure he gets himself and Laura to safety.
I really enjoy all this authors work, and have read all her previous books. This one was a slow burn, and it took me til nearly the end to work out exactly what was going on. The characters were exactly how you’d imagine them, Liam the cop hero with Laura being a weak, vulnerable woman. And it was good to see Laura is actually a really strong woman, who can take care of herself when the situation requires it. The story flowed really well, and was really descriptive, you could really picture the island in your minds eye and feel the creepiness. I enjoy the turn of events and the ending was really satisfying. I would recommend this book.
This book started off strong for me, then turned a little ridiculous and unbelievable, and I was not thrilled with the new storyline that became the ending. Just wasn’t a great read for me.
I loved this book. "The Stalker" had a great location-an isolated Scottish island in a huge restored castle that has a ghostly past (spooky) and very riveting characters in Laura and Liam. They are newlyweds who think they are being stalked but all is not what it seems. I will leave it at that. Twists and turns that will leave you dizzy all the way to the very satisfying ending that left me breathless. I highly recommend and look forward to reading more by Sarah Alderson.
Thanks so much to Net Galley and the publisher for the chance to read and review. .
I do love a good thriller novel and this one had me on the edge of my seat right through to the very end, I did not expect the twists and turns throughout this book at all! It is fast-paced, the suspense is just immense and it is certainly a page-turner. Cleverly written the characterisation really helps to engross the reader into the story.
Even though the book is about two people (well three, including the stalker) who are on an island for a week, every word and every page just encourages you to keep reading on. The ending had my head spinning, I was so shocked and couldn’t believe how clever this was.
The Stalker is one of the best books I have read this year and I will be talking about this book for a very long time and have already started to recommend it to fellow thriller readers. I haven’t read any previous books by Sarah Alderson but after reading this novel I have added some of her other titles to my list to purchase in the future.
A huge thank you to the publishers for letting me read an advanced copy of The Stalker on Netgalley. It is always nice to discover new authors.
You can buy this fabulous book from all booksellers, online and of course using any independent local bookshop.
The Stalker story is about a young couple going on a honeymoon on Shura, a small beautiful Scotland island. Haunted island - but this is not so important. During their seven days stay in a cosy cottage, they are being watched. Who was following them? Why? What will happen on the island? Are they in danger? How they survive the upcoming storm?
Sarah Alderson wrote an extraordinary novel, and nothing is so simple. While reading, I tried to understand why the couple is together, I couldn't find any links between them. Do they behave like a newly married couple? What is their story? I was also surprised about the layer of the story, and firstly I thought I could arrange it differently - what a mistake! An author set the story to catch the reader by surprise! I was shocked by unexpected twists I found towards the end of the book! The Stalker took me by the surprise as I didn't listen to my guts. The narration has several points of view, slowly encrypting the chilling details from the past and introducing the reader to the hidden truth.
I enjoy the reading. Sarah Alderson create a creepy, claustrophobic and shocking thriller - well done! If you think that the book is only about an overprotected husband and a susceptible wife, you will be surprised by what is hidden behind the scene. Recommend that book, a great plot with a surprising ending that you will not expect is coming!
Thank you, NetGalley and AvonBooks UK, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I just reviewed The Stalker by Sarah Alderson. #NetGalley
A honeymoon getaway at a romantic island in Scotland. Is it paradise or a nightmare? While I always enjoy thrillers, I felt that this just wasn’t pieced together very well.
I definitely can understand where all her anxiety and depression was coming from and I felt the author did a great job at portraying how that feels at times. However, I thought the husband was very inconsiderate of her feelings which was frustrating.
And the choices they make when they find out someone else could be on the island helped me choose to only give 3 stars.
Seriously, if you find evidence of someone watching you at night, why would you:
1. Stay on island
2. Decide to go exploring the island for this stranger
3. Not room up in the safe, locked house?
All in all, not a fan. Glad I was able to try it though.
Really clever! A well written, gripping story that I devoured in a couple of sittings! Nothing is quite as it seems in this dark, tense thriller. The penny dropped for me just as the twist was revealed but it was better than I anticipated! Brilliant!
Wow. What a great story. This author is one of my favorites. This story turned out to be completely different from what I expected. I enjoyed this story more, the more I read. It had plenty of twists and shocking revelations. Excellent!
Just a day after their wedding, Liam and Laura had to cancel their honeymoon in Greece when Laura's mother is found dead after falling down the stairs. Months later, they making up for lost time and going on a romantic island get-away to Scotland where they will have the whole island to themselves.
Before dropping them off on the island, the locals give Laura a bit of a scare, telling her that the island is haunted. But she begins to think that maybe it's not all just local legend as strange things begin to happen. Slowly, the history of the island, the owners and even Liam and Laura begin to be revealed.
A fast and entertaining read that leads the reader to peek in one dark corner while the truth is sneaking up behind them.
Liam and Laura begin their honeymoon on an isolated Scottish island. It is only accessible by boat and seems such a romantic location to begin their married life. However they are being stalked by a mysterious stranger. The whole island becomes a very frightening place. Who has scored Devil on the outside window pane? When their gas and electricity is cut off and the emergency phone does not work who they can blame and why are they being subjected to this.
The story moves on to Mia’s part of the story and this makes a similar observations as well but what is the link and why is it happening? This is a brilliantly told thriller that you have to read twice to pick up the clues you didn’t spot first time. This is the best thriller I have read in a long time and Sarah Alderson never disappoints but gets better and better.
After reading the synopsis for this book, I was really intrigued and couldn’t wait to read it. I thought it started out really well and the author did a great job of building up the suspense factor, but the further I read, the more annoyed I became with Liam. Liam worked in law enforcement, yet he seemed to grow more paranoid and unhinged about the stalker, and the qualities he exuded didn’t seem to match up with his profession.
The end of this book is what really sealed the deal for me. It was so well planned out, and I didn’t have any inkling of how the truth would come to fruition, but my jaw literally dropped when it was revealed. That alone made this book worth reading.

This is an entertaining thriller about a couple whose honeymoon on a deserted island off the coast of Scotland goes badly awry when it appears they are being watched. It’s a quick, straightforward read with enough unanswered questions to keep you wanting to turn the page to the end. I didn’t find it as spine-chilling as I hoped but it is well-written with a satisfying twist.
