Thanks to the author and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.
From the very first chapter, this storyline had me hooked. Young newlyweds ventured to and island for their honeymoon…. But they weren’t the only people there. A story with twists and turns when I least expected it, I couldn’t put this book down.
This one kept me on the edge of my seat. Unsure what was happening or who was doing it. I was riveted. The fear was palpable and just when you think you know what's happening, you don't
I had a hard time getting into this at first, but once I got further in the book got better and better. It had several twists I didn’t see coming. Overall an enjoyable read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.
4.5/5
What should be a romantic honeymoon on a remote Scottish island turns into a nightmare for Laura and Liam. They are supposed to be the only ones on the island so why does it feel as if they are being watched?
A great gripping tale. Plenty of twists and a shocking ending.
I only have one word for this book...WOW
The story starts with two newlyweds, Liam and Laura spending their honeymoon in a remote Scottish island all by themselves--a cottage and a castle that was ruined by a fire years ago. Yet what seemingly a quiet honeymoon soon turned to a nightmare when both of them realized that someone else is also in this remote island with them. And there's a dark forbidding history lurking in the island...
Let's start with the plot--the plot of the story was great! Intriguing, engaging and for a moment, I thought I was reading a horror story--I had the feeling of horror when I was reading the book and felt like watching a horror movie! The story was intense, the author did a good job hooking the reader into the story that for a moment, I simply couldn't put the book down as I was so hooked into the book! Then towards the ending, the story got more and more intense with the moments of OMG moments and then comes the most unexpected and twisted ending that I didn't even see it coming! Really, the ending was so good and unexpected! I did not see that twist coming in the end.
The story was also short, fast paced and quick to read, and has all the qualities of a good thriller book I usually would find in a good thriller! This author did not disappoint me and I am looking forward to read more of her books!
Overall, this book gave me a rollercoaster horror ride that kept me awake at night to finish the book--unputdownable and fast paced thriller with a twisted unexpected ending you didn't expect--worth five stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Avon publishers for the ARC. The book is based on my honest opinion only.
"The room is dark as a tomb thanks to the fact the curtains are still drawn, and so I move to open them to let in some daylight. As I do, I let out a scream...I point at the window...They're letters. And this way around it's clear what they spell. DEVIL."
Newlyweds Laura and Liam arrive on a remote and unoccupied Scottish island for a rearranged honeymoon, following the sudden death of Laura's mother. With a refurbished cottage, beaches, forests and a ruined castle and chapel, it should be perfect for a week alone. But they soon discover they're not alone. They're being watched and it looks like someone is camping in the ruined castle. Who is on the island and why are they interested in Laura and Liam?
The isolated and rugged setting, time running out and the characters' inability to contact the outside world anchor this psychological thriller. Laura is the main protagonist and the grief for the loss of her mum is clear. Liam's determination to confront whoever is stalking them on the island leads to the situation rapidly deteriorating. There are red herrings and a serious twist to this tale that I won't spoil. I was beginning to suspect some of what unfolds, but that didn't impact my enjoyment. Fast-paced and tightly plotted, this is a seriously tense and atmospheric novel that fans of thrillers will absolutely love.
This. Book. Is. Brilliant. This is the perfect storm of a book. The writing, the location and the story have all come together to create the perfectly chilling thriller. I haven’t read a book quite like this for sometime. This book had me seriously freaked out along with the main characters.
I really enjoyed this book, the suspense was building, who was the other person on the island? Why were they stalking this seemingly happy newly wed couple? Then came the twist and everything that you thought you knew wasn’t as it seemed. Very well written, the story moved at a good pace and I enjoyed reading it.
Laura and Liam have gone to a remote Scottish island for their honeymoon but when strange things start happening it soon appears their lives are in danger.
Oh damn was this a goody! Honestly it took me a little while to get into it and then when I did I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Note to self: never, ever book a holiday where you are completely isolated and unable to contact anyone.
After a whirlwind romance Laura and Liam Carrington get married but the honeymoon in the Greek Islands is cancelled when Laura’s mother dies on her wedding night. A couple of months later she is ready to try again only this time they go for a remote, private Scottish Island where they will be the only guests. It has all the makings of a romantic getaway. There is no mobile reception and the cabin is only accessible by boat. The boat will return to collect them in a week. What could possibly go wrong? Quite a lot as it seems!
After the first day the dream honeymoon starts to turn into a nightmare as the couple starts to realise they are not alone on the island. They catch fleeting glimpses of a stranger and when they explore a burnt out castle on the island they discover that someone has been ‘camping’ there. And that someone has a gun! The stalker’s interventions get more and more creative and disturbing the couple realise they still have days to spend on this island cooped up with an unknown entity. How bad can it get?
I thought this story would follow traditional lines but I was pleasantly surprised. For one thing it wasn’t just the woman who was ‘seeing things’ and being told she is imagining it by her husband/partner. And then there was that neat little twist that I should have seen coming, but didn’t!
I also thought the author did a great job ramping up the atmosphere. It wasn’t creepy per se but it was very unsettling. Then the sense of dread got more and more menacing as we got a few thoughts from the stalker’s perspective. I was starting to dread what was coming. I had visions of…nothing pleasant I can assure you. And just when you think you had better wait until morning to keep reading - the story changes gear and you realise nothing is as it seems.
I really enjoyed this little break from reality and I commend the author for giving me shivers which doesn’t happen very often. This will appeal to those who enjoy an atmospheric psychological thriller. I received an advance review copy for free from Netgalley and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The book starts out slow with not a lot going on. It is atmospheric and chilling though. This book wasn’t anything earth shattering.
I had so many feelings reading The Stalker. First, I felt like it was moving a little slow, but knew it had a lot of potential. Creepy Scottish island with no one else living there? It already sounds like the perfect thriller setup. The story built slowly for the first quarter. You're slowly discovering what a wonderful couple Liam and Laura are. They seem perfect for each other.
And then the story starts to move fast. The Stalker shows up. They discover they aren't alone on the island.
Around the 65% point book, comes the twist I never saw coming. Who Liam and Laura really are, their real back story, why they ended up on the island, and so much more,
While on the surface this is a thriller, in many ways it's also a story about women's empowerment and survival.
If you like a fast-paced thriller, check this one out.
This book had me gripped from start to finish. The writing regarding the scenery was beautiful, and the character development was so good. I didn't have a clue where this book was going, but when it got there, just wow. My first experience reading anything of Sarah Aldersons, but definitely not my last. Sensational!
I usually enjoy Sarah Aldersons books but this one was just ok. I found it a bit predictable and i wasnt really into it. The ending totally shocked me but thats about it
I thank NetGalley and AvonBooks UK for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this eArc!
A Scottish stalker thriller! Very spooky (especially when you’re on holiday in scotland whilst reading this haha!! A very unusual way I tried to immerse myself). It throughly creeped me out!
I am new to this author and was soon glad that I choose to read this book. The story centres on 2 newlyweds Liam and Laura. When Laura's mum dies suddenly on their wedding day it meant that the honeymoon didn't happen. A while later Liam booked a honeymoon on a remote island with them being the only occupants, or so they thought.
Is Laura seeing someone or is her mind playing tricks. It soon becomes apparent that all is not as it should be on the Island.
The ending of the book was totally unexpected and i loved it. It is nice when you can't predict the storyline. I would highly recommend this book.
Liam & Laura are spending their honeymoon on a remote island Scotland, where they are meant to be alone. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. They are being stalked.
The synopsis of the story is intriguing. Who could be stalking this couple? And for them to be stalker on a remote island is even more enthralling. You expect the atmosphere to play a major part in the story, which is exactly how it goes, making this book a page turner & a quick read. Despite all this, something in me is not content with the story. I don't know how to explain this without spoiling the book. There are many twists in the book. But all I can say is that the climax was not as awe-inspiring as I expected. It was good for the characters, paving a path for their new lives which seems to be a lot more hopeful. But the execution fell short in some way, because once I figured out the crux of the story, it was difficult to keep going through the big reveal and discovering no real surprises.
If you are looking for a story that creates a chilling atmosphere, you will like this book. But if like me, you figure out twist sooner, you might end up feeling underwhelmed.
The perfect honeymoon on a deserted Scottish island becomes a fight for survival when the happy couple find themselves staked and hunted by an unknown assailant.
A claustrophobic story with plenty of menace and mayhem.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for my e-copy for an honest review.
As a Sarah Alderson, I was prepared to love this book. Unfortunately it didn't all quite come together for me, as I felt the way she was able to execute her twist heavily relied on manipulative writing techniques. I loved the setting and the mystery and characters were all intriguing. I tore through the book.
However, when it came time for the big reveal, I just felt it was sloppy. It's not a new twist for the genre, but I felt the execution in this particular case really fell short. I ultimately liked the ending and the fates of our characters, but would have preferred if the book had been told from a third person POV instead of first. I don't want to give too many spoilers away, as most people don't seem to mind how the twist played out, but I was definitely underwhelmed.
4 twisty stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Laura and her new husband, Liam, are celebrating their honeymoon on a secluded island off the coast of Scotland. They’re supposed to be alone: no other guests, no communication with the outside world, and no way off until the boat returns in a week. But what was meant to be a quiet and romantic getaway quickly becomes more sinister when it’s apparent that they are not alone on the island… and whoever is there with them wants them dead.
This is one of those books with a twist you won’t see coming! Part one really sets the stage and hooks you, but it does drag just a little bit… But then you get to part two. And I think the twist makes it worth the wait! There’s a lot more to the story than you think. ;)
