Sarah Alderson's The Stalker is a chilling thriller with spectacular scenery, with an unexpected twist turning everything you though you knew on its head and inside out! I was admittedly almost at capacity for the very effective creepy, freaky and disturbing stalking phase of this book when the masterful reveal came, but my attention was well and truly restored by the dramatic revelation and ending. A really interesting exploration of control, power and manipulation.
Many thanks to NetGalley for a digital ARC of The Stalker for review, I will definitely be putting Sarah Alderson's earlier work The Weekend Away on my to-read list!
It was good in the beginning, but got boring quickly. Nothing really happened until the end.. There was a "twist" that I thought was obvious and then another one that was kind of ridiculous. If you like slow-burn thrillers with nonsensical twists, then you might like this.
Another excellent book by this author. Thank you for giving me to opportunity to read this. Kept me is suspense and on the edge of my seat! Could not put this book down
This novel was terrific! It was nothing like I thought it would be and everything I needed it to be. It takes true talent to write such a psychologically charged novel where you are completely blown away at the element of surprise! I don’t want to give away anything other than go read this book by the extremely talented Sarah Anderson. You’ll think you know where this is headed but you couldn’t be more wrong. The atmosphere of the novel with the remote deserted Scottish Island was the best setting. Beyond thrilled to have received an ARC from Avon and Netgalley.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ -- That twist 🙌🏻
This is a hard book to review without giving away spoilers. Let's just say that I loved it! Exceptional writing. Well paced (I finished this one all in one go). Atmospheric setting. Interesting characters. Intriguing plot. Although, I will admit I had one aspect figured out almost from the start. 😉 That said, the twist at the end pushed this one into 5-star territory. I literally jumped up and started yelling...well I can't say what I was yelling because "spoiler" but if it doesn't have you jumping up, fist pumping the air, you are dead inside. 😂 I know Netflix has picked up another of this author's books (The Weekend Away), and man would I LOVE to see them make this one into a movie as well. 🤞🏻

Newlyweds Laura and Liam are spending their honeymoon on a remote island off the coast of Scotland, after a slight delay, where they're supposed to be completely alone. It's not long before the couple begins to suspect that they aren't alone on the island after all. Told in Laura's point of view and someone we do not know at times. A chilling, suspenseful, anxiety filled read. Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.
A slow burn of a novel set on a wild and remote Scottish island where a couple are spending their honeymoon. The premise was a bit unreal and I am not keen on novels which feature animal cruelty. Three stars.
I received an eARC of The Stalker by Sarah Alderson from Avon Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
5 stars! This was quite the page-turner! Attention-grabbing from start to finish, this book was creepy and twisty. Fantastic book!
Newlyweds Laura and Liam are spending their delayed honeymoon on a remote island off the coast of Scotland where they're supposed to be the only inhabitants. It's not long before the couple begins to suspect that they aren't alone on the island.
The story is told from Laura's POV with occasional contributions from an unknown person. The location is very atmospheric and the author's descriptive prose will give you chills. I liked Laura who is full of anxiety and rather despondent following the death of her mother but I really didn't like Liam. He seems very self-absorbed and controlling and I feel like Laura is afraid of him. The chapters are nice and short and the writing makes it an easy book to read pretty quickly. I was definitely feeling the fear and had to stop reading a couple of times because I couldn't handle the tension.
I drafted the above at about the 55% mark, then at 70% the author threw a spanner into the works and shattered everything I believed. From that point on I thought the plot kind of dragged and there was too much explanation although I did enjoy the ending. I still recommend the book and I'll definitely be looking into other books by this author.
My thanks to Avon Books UK and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this novel.

What an absolutely FANTASTIC psychological thriller! And what a total shocker the ending was. Didn't see it coming for sure.
Newlyweds Liam and Laura are spending their honeymoon on a remote island off the coast of Scotland. Told mainly from Laura's perspective, Laura has been struggling with depression since the death of her mother. However, she is determined to get her life back on track and celebrate her new marriage with the love of her life. But she quickly learns from the locals that the island is supposedly haunted and has seen more than its fair share of deaths. Then shortly after their arrival on the island, Laura begins to suspect that they're being watched...
I really enjoyed this book. It was gripping, atmospheric, and fast-paced. The plot seems pretty straightforward. A couple enjoying their honeymoon becomes the target of a madman. But don't be fooled, nothing is as it seems in this story. If you like thrillers with the unreliable narrator trope, then I highly recommend this one. Props to the author, she got me! I never saw that twist coming, didn't even suspect what was really going on.
Will definitely read more books by her.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was right up my street. It was full of twists and turns and a lot of things I didn’t see coming. A very good read. Would recommend it
Ok, all I know is that if I was staying on a remote island off the coast of Scotland (I am Irish so I understand the wilds of this!) without WiFi, without phone signal, I'd be anxious from the get go. I felt that the whole way through this book. It creeped me out, twisty turny plotline drawing me in for the whole book!
Not sure about the ending one bit but I was so hooked for the whole story!
I really like this author's style, and this novel sets the ambiance extremely well. You feel like you are there with the characters, surviving like they are.
The plot is cleverly put and the twists are solid and, even tough I guessed part of the reveal, I was still really taken aback by the entirety of the revelation. Greatly done.
I strongly recommend this book.
I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
Having previously read and loved a book by this author, I was totally prepared for a wild ride. Unfortunately however, things never got going the way I had hoped. The writing was solid, but the premise of the story seemed a bit too far fetched, and the pace of the book moved too slowly. By the time things picked up, I was less invested. A decent thriller, but not the edge-of-my-seat read I was hoping for.
Thank you to NetGalley, Sarah Alderson and Avon Books UK for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.
I was really excited for this one! Even though this seems to be the year for spooky island novels, this one was definitely unique from the others that I have read and I enjoyed it. It was a fairly quick read with a good pacing to it. I loved the creepy island vibes and how they were completely alone and anything could happen. The history of the island really helped with the story and kept it creepy long enough to start to guess what could be going on. The second half was definitely the better half of the novel as there is a ton of action and different twists that for me were quite jaw dropping and I was totally unsuspecting! I really enjoyed this one and it will go down as one of my favorite surprise endings!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon publishing for this e-arc for review. I honestly didn’t know how this one was going to go for me. I loved the sound of the premise and I definitely enjoyed the other book I read from this author, but once I started reading I didn’t understand how the premise was going to support a novel length story. Luckily, I was wrong but this book definitely has a slow start. Some of the characters made very frustrating choices but knowing what I do now, it makes complete sense. I loved where this story went and how Alderson tied the storylines together. Will definitely be reading more by her as this is the second book I’ve very much enjoyed.
The Stalker is a spine-tingling thriller! The plot was very suspenseful and I kept reading because there were so many twists!
Thank you for providing me a copy of this book.
I run out of time so sorry I wasn't able to finish this.
This was a thriller and a half! Atmospheric, claustrophobic and SO unsettling I read this in one sitting and then . couldn't sleep afterwards!
