I loved how Zane and Brina met! So funny! The entire novel was very entertaining to read and I enjoyed all of the characters and their wild season.

Brian and Zane are wonderful together! She's known for her charitable works since being widowed and Zane is known for being an irresponsible rake. A chance meeting leads to them both remembering the other. When they meet again, Zane places a bet that he will win her hand by the end of the season. Brian, overwhelmed, counters with her own wager that he cannot go for that time period without gambling, drink or women. All London is abuzz with the news. Which one will win, or will they both lose? The chemistry between them is off the charts and I got to the end of the book before realizing there was no sex in this story! Steamy, yet clean and so well written, there's no need for explicit detail. Beautiful story! Highly recommend!

How to Train Your Earl by Amelia Grey is an interesting tale of a young man, Zeke, a younger son of an Earl, who inherits the title when his grandfather, his father and his brother are killed in a tragic accident. Having inherited the title, Zeke, also gets to deal with decisions concerning family members and running the estate. The biggest problem is that Zeke is not Earl material, he is a rogue, who now needs to learn how to be an Earl. Having been told, by his uncles, he needs a wife to help him, Zeke actually makes a bet about marrying the woman he has chosen to help him. Now the story begins to get lively as the reader tries to figure out who is teaching who. There's a lively romantic relationship and the interaction of Zeke, the Earl, and Brina, the Lady, is fun, exciting and action packed. The ending is quite satisfying with both parties winning. I am giving this honest review after receiving this ARC.

I have previously read the first 2 stories in this trilogy and really enjoyed them. How to Train Your Earl was just as good. I mean really how can a book where the hero and heroine are participating in a wager where she will marry him if he can go 4 weeks without drinking, gambling, swearing and other women not be a very fun read. Zane and Brina are great characters who at first glance don’t seem to have anything in common at all, other than an attraction not one another. Zane a new Earl who never in his life thought he’d rise to this position, after all an uncle and 2 cousins perished for this to happen. Zane is also the black sheep of his family prone to doing what he wants and not following the common protocol that he should. While Brian is the widow of a sailor from a ship that went down several years ago. She does her best to help others and to always act properly. Zane and Brina bring out the best in one another, and the chemistry between the 2 of them makes a great story. It was one that once I started I could not put down. The ending while predictable, did take a turn that I really enjoyed and did not foresee. If you like regency romance novels this would be a book you should read.

Loved book 3. The young widow and the newly appointed Earl meet in a dimly lite library what could possibly go wrong. Well he’s tied to a chair and she’s fleeing an over zealous drunk. Well developed characters was a great weekend read.

Zane is the new Earl of Blacknight he met Mrs Feld one night in Paris where she had to rescue him. When they met again Zane’s family despair he will ever be respectable. A wager will be made at White’s that Zane can win the hand of Mrs Feld before the end of the season. This is a lovely romance between two people who have to overcome past lives and learn that their love can overcome any obstacles. I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for this ARC.

I STRONGLY recommend reading this entire series as it provides some great background. I thought this was a great story with some really interesting twists to the normal "formula" for these types of books. Very fun and the characters had a lot of chemistry. Perfect weekend or vacation read!

3.5 stars. This had a good plot with the wager between Brina and Zane, and Zane seemed to have a fun personality. I liked Brina initially but she became increasingly frustrating as the story moved along. There was a certain excitement missing at the end that would have made this a better story.

Thanks to NetGalley and St Martins Press for the arc.

Of all the stories in this series - I liked this book the most. Brina is a young widow who lost her husband when the ship he was on sank shortly after they married. Her husband was hailed a hero for saving many of the passengers who survived. Since that time she has struggled to find her way - the only place she has found for herself is in working on the school she and two of her friends have started for girls orphaned as a result of the shipwreck. During a visit to Paris, she ran into Zane, soon to be the Earl of Blacknight, at a masquerade. She found him in a very compromising position and shared a memorable kiss.

Now Zane, having unexpectedly inherited the Earldom, is back in London and struggling under the weight of his new responsibilities and very large family. He sees Brina on the street and immediately recognizes her. Then, instead of doing the normal thing and wooing her in a traditional way, he makes a bet at Whites about securing her hand in marriage. That starts an avalanche of gossip and other bets. Zane definitely still has some maturing to do - and adjusting to a role he never expected to be in.

Watching him and Brina navigate their relationship was lovely - and you could clearly see that they each very much needed what the other brought to the table. I will say - the final drama was somewhat predictable. You could definitely see it coming a mile away - as was Brina's reaction to it.

Overall - this is a lovely regency and a nice conclusion to the series!

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

First...I love Amelia Grey's books. So I was already predisposed to enjoy this one. It actually didn't keep me engaged for the first third of the book. I think it was the back-and-forth between the hero, Zane, and the heroine, Brina. One small thing also? I found the names to feel modern. I don't know that they ARE modern, but they felt like it.

The wager between the two was inventive in that it was done so publicly. I wish we'd found out who had been following them, but that wasn't revealed.

The tension of the bet versus the tension between the hero and heroine for other reasons was nicely increased page by page.

The two young men in the story weren't developed for me enough to want to read their stories. Perhaps they were just tools for the plot. I don't know.

After all that, I just want to say that this book wasn't my favorite but it certainly didn't make me think less of the author. She's still on point and one of my personal faves.

How To Train Your Earl is the final story in Ms. Grey's trilogy of the widows of the Salty Dove shipwreck. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Mrs. Brina Feld is determined to remain a widow following the death of her husband when the Salty Dove went down five years earlier. She occupies her days assisting her friends with running the school they started for the daughters of the men who died in the maritime disaster, teaching them to be seamstresses so they can find employment and independence when they grow up. During an excursion with them, she is spotted by Zane Browning, Earl of Blacknight, whom she rescued in Paris a few months earlier while she was visiting her aunt. He never forgot her, and announces to her (and the ton) that he has placed a bet at his club that he will marry her at the end of the Season. She is intrigued by him and, after placing conditions on him that she knows he won't be able to meet, accepts his bet.
I enjoyed this story until about 75% of the way through, when odd punctuations (and lack thereof) forced me to re-read several passages again for clarity. There were also some sections where phrases were repeated in the same sentence. I hope this is corrected before publishing, as this affected my opinion of the writing, which is a BIG deal with me.
There are mild sensual scenes that do not end up being the climax (forgive the pun) of the story.

I loved How to Train Your Earl. The characters were well written and the storyline holes enough drama and interest.
Zane and Brina worked so well together. I loved that he was himself and threw away the stuffy society rules to make Brina his. Brina was caring, selfless and strong willed herself. I loved how she turned the tables on the rake. His courtship was unique but perfect to gain her hand.

I received a copy of this for a honest review.

In HOW TO TRAIN YOUR EARL, Amelia Grey includes all my favorite pieces of historical romance played out amidst the English ton.

We have a hero who was never to inherit the title. Our heroine, a young widow whose husband died a hero. Mix in meddling relatives, all of those pesky society rules and the sparks fly from the beginning.

Zane is driven by his family to learn how to be a gentleman earl with all the inherent responsibility. He decides that Brina, a respectful widow who already has captured his attention, should be his tutor.

I enjoyed watching both of these characters grow both individually and together as they sorted out their dreams and how to achieve them.

How to Train Your Earl
3 stars

This book had so much promise, but for me never really took off. It was a fun, quick weekend read that hints at a passion between the main characters but never really explores it in depth. Brina, a saintly widow, and Blacknight, the newly appointed Earl whose rakish reputation proceeds him, seem an odd couple but opposites attract. I wanted to be captivated by this book but never found myself really identifying with the characters.

I believe this part of a series, but does well as a standalone.

This is my honest review. Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC.

Brina Field has lost her husband at sea and vows never to love again. Zane, Earl of Blacknight isn’t interested in marrying and wants to continue to live the life of a bachelor that is until he meets Brina.

I loved the banter between Brina and Zane. This is an enjoyable, cute romance.

I received an advance reader copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I enjoyed so much reading this story that marks the end of the series “First comes love”. The author’s writing is very elegant and discreet. She has perfectly highlighted the vices and the virtues of an historical environment where the story takes place. I was completely captured by the allure of Zane, aka Lord Blacknight who made it a mission to conquer Brina’s heart since their first encounter in Paris. Both characters may initially be mismatched owing to their different features but as the reader goes deeper into the story he/she will realize that they are simply perfect for one another. A pleasant book to read while sipping a nice cup of tea.

This was an amazing story. The characters and the plot were incredible. Brian was a very great character being widowed and doing everything she could to help others. But the earl of blacknight comes back into town she can’t help but want him. But he has a problem. He wants to change his ways and find a proper lady but he made a bet that he would wed before the end of the season. I really enjoyed this story.

How To Train Your Earl ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Having read the first book in the series awhile ago, I can say that this can be read as a stand alone book without the reader feeling like they’ve missed anything.

Brina Feld has settled into a life devoted to helping others since the sinking of the Salty Dove left her widowed. She has no need for a man in her contented life. But when the notorious and handsome Lord Blacknight returns and awakens her desires, her peace and serenity vanish. If she agrees to an alliance with him, she knows she will have to battle her heart to keep from being snared under his spell.

Zane, the Earl of Blacknight, was never supposed to inherit the earldom, so he didn’t much care to lead a respectable life before then. Fistfights, card games, and drinking are the order of the day. Now he’s determined to change his rakish ways and he knows the proper lady who can help him. There’s just one problem: He's already bet he’ll win her hand before the Season is over. With her resolve to out-scheme him, how can he show her that his love is true?

A quick weekend read that starts slowly and except for a few brief parts never really takes off. The story hints at a passion between the main characters but never really explores it in depth. Will he or won’t he live up to her expectations of how an Earl should behave. After he places a bet at White’s Gentleman’s Club, will she or won’t she accept his proposal at the stroke of midnight?

I received this ARC for free in exchange for my honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you NetGalley, Amelia Grey and St. Martin’s Press

I started reading this story and it was about a man and woman who ket at a masquerade. She is trying to escape a drunk and slips into a closed room and locks the door. She looks over and there is a man tied to a chair. She dithers around, I mean there is no other way to describe it. It takes her forever to decide to untie him and he kisses her and goes off into the night, chasing his cousin who is about to marry the wrong woman. I should have stopped there. This book just d-raaggss on. I think their first meeting in London until she sees him again takes a third of the book. She supposedly is a wise who works at an orphanage. But she goes to the orphanage rarely, and the head mistress of the orphanage is described as a pinch-face, stern older woman. I wouldn't hire a stern woman to watch over orphans. It sounds more like a sad book and not a romance. But we have a dithering heroine. The hero is a rake.turned earl. He likes to sleep around a lot. He is known for it. But he can tell by one kiss with the widow that he will want her for the rest of his life and proposes marriage because she is so upstanding, it will make him look good. He places a wager and she places a counter wager.
This book just dragged on so much, that the quick action scene was just as dull as the rest of the book. And this is a shame because I usually enjoy this author so very much.
It hurts me, but 2.5 stars and no recommendation to read.
