Brina is a widow who has no intention of remarrying. When she helps Zane out of a sticky situation she has no idea she will ever see him again. Bachelor Zane has just inherited an earldom and has no time to think of marriage. He cannot, however, stop thinking of the beautiful Brina. He will do anything to get her attention even making a ridiculous bet. Who will win? I received an ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for my honest review.
I really liked the sound of this book but in reality I found it quite boring. The characters didn't captivate me and I didn't find anything of interest in the plot. It wasn't badly written, I just didn't connect with it and found both main characters to be irritating.

A refreshing new storyline for this regency romance. The plot was hard for me to figure out which had me hurrying to read. All of the characters were just the right addition to the story and I was swept away with the love between Zane and Brina. Book provided by NetGalley.
3.5 Stars!! This is the 3rd book in the ‘First Comes Love’ series. I’ve read book 1 & this book but missed book 2. They can all be read as standalone books. This was a good book. Not great or especially memorable but still, enjoyable. I didn’t get any real romance between the 2 main characters but it was still a decent read. I was interested in finding out what would happen next and that kept me reading. I really like how unique this story was. I’ve never read a book with ‘crimping’ in it before. And I loved the ending!

What a lovely book. While this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. Brian has been a widow for five years since the death of her husband on the Salty Dove. He managed to save many people before he died. Brian and two other widows have begun a school for the daughters of the crew lost on the ship. She has immersed herself in helping others and her reputation is equal to none.
Zane, on the other hand, is a bin vivant gamester and rake until he is forced into the title of Earl due to an unfortunate accident involving his uncles and cousin. Zane and Brian first meet in a verb unconventional way, and their interest in each other never wanes.
Once Zane returns to London to take the title, he encounters Brian and makes a whopper of a bet. Brian challenges him as well, and their love story is a sweet tale. Thoroughly enjoyed!
I enjoyed this historical romance. The heroine is a mix between all things proper and a hidden minx. The hero is a typical romance Rake with very keen observation skills. I really enjoyed reading this story and watching these two figure each other out! The twist at the end was a great surprise and I learned something! This book is in a series but can stand alone!

This was my first read by Ms. Amelia Grey and I liked it. How to Train Your Earl was a decent, solid read. Not great but not bad. Solid 3 stars in my opinion. It was just a little too long, with not enough happening in it for my taste. I found myself skimming pages and I hate doing that. There were no highs or lows in this romance. The hero and heroine are likable enough, but something pleasant isn't enough to evoke a strong response from me. Much more of a lukewarm romance. The start was a little slow (even though, I have to say, the opening scene was just amazing) but at the end the story picked up (a little too late for my taste). And I liked the ending a lot. Also, I didn't feel the love connection between the two main characters. They had, in my opinion, no chimistry whatsoever. But the plot/story was enough to keep me turning pages. Over all it was cute, just the fluff piece I needed in the moment. No great scenes, no bad writing, just a quiet enjoyable book.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC to read and enjoy! I always enjoy Amelia Grey she writes a sweet story with lovable characters perfect for a cold and rainy weekend! Zane is sexy and sweet, rake though he is. Can he change in order to win Brina’s hand in marriage? She’s sworn off love and marriage after losing her husband several years ago. No one needs that kind of pain again! But can she resist falling in love with this man who she is instantly attracted to after a chance meeting during a masquerade ball? That opening grabbed me from the beginning! I think it could have used a little more excitement and conflict, hence the 4 star rating. But still worth the read!!
Amelia Grey is fabulous. I received "How to Train Your Earl" from Netgalley and voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Zane Howard Veldon Dormer Browning, also the eighth Earl of Blacknight, is tied up to a chair when Brina Feld stumbles into a room during a masquerade fleeing a drunken man and unties him. They later meet again in London where sparks fly between them and wagers are placed by Zane himself courting and marrying Brina, and then Brina rebutting by saying only the success of making him a gentleman and him not participating in certain vices will lead to her accepting his proposal and then their marriage. Their nearness to ensure spoken rules aren't broken, while teaching Zane the etiquette of being a gentleman leads to magical mutual attraction. A beautiful love story of redemption and sacrifice.
Surprised me from the very start!
This was my first book by Amelia Grey and I was not convinced it was the book for me after the blurb. However I grabbed a cup of tea and settled in because I'm not one to quit a book before I even try.
And oh how lucky I am that I kept reading. This book is one of my top five historical romances I've read; the author on par with Kerrigan Byrne and Julia Quinn. Ms. Grey expertly paired Brina Feld and the new Earl of Blacknight, Zane Browning together. I loved everything about their relationship, his utter devotion to her and her spunk.
The books plot flowed like a steady stream and every subplot had a reason that wasn't forgotten! It came together perfectly. All I can say is yes, this book is for you. Read it. I can't wait to reread this book!
This was good....really good! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the characters. I could have done without the uncles and would have liked to kick them to the curb but I know they meant well! lol
As for Brina, she is such a sweetheart and even though she's not proud of how she handled things in the past when her husband had died, she's happy helping others and staying a widow. When she first meets Zane while he's in a compromising situation, little does she know how he would completely upset her quiet life!
I adore Zane even if he is a rake but then I love bad boys! He loves gambling, drinking, women and swearing but when he makes a wager that he can persuade Brina to marry him by the end of the London season, she turns the tables on him and wagers he has to stop gambling, drinking, swearing and women until the end of the season!!! In return she would teach him how to be a proper earl, easier said than done!
There is also the fact that each have a young cousin that have gotten into trouble and I enjoyed how that was all handled in the end. All in all, a great story leading to a wonderful HEA!!

An enjoyable story! I loved their introduction but I admit that I struggled with his arrogance at not listening to her when she was embarrassed and upset by the wager and forced attention upon her. She stood up to him admirably but it still bugged me.

I wish I had read the first two in the series before starting this one. It is not necessary, I still understood what was going on. I am a person who likes things in order, and I know I missed some of the little inside jokes between the heroine and her besties because I did not read the first two. Here is your warning, start at the beginning of the series.
That being said, this book grabbed my attention from the first page. How could it not? The opening is quite dramatic. I was instantly interested in the characters. Brina is a proper widow that needs counseling and to loosen up a bit. Zane needs to settle down, but he's working on it. It is fun and shenanigans from page one.
This story is pretty heavy on the angst, but not in a bad way. The attraction between Zane and Brina is sizzly. I quite enjoyed it. The story is (for the most part) well written. I will be going back and reading the other two. The concept of three women who meet because of such tragedy becoming best friends is amazing. Them each going on to find their happily ever after is even better.
Zane is a great hero. I adored him from the start. He is patient, witty, a bit of a rake, and ready to settle down. That is 100% a recipe for a great hero. He's also pretty, added benefit.
There were a few moments throughout the book where I was forced to roll my eyes. I absolutely loved the rake falling head over heels for the proper wallflower widow. I could have done without some of the drama. For example, when the inevitable happens and there is a moment of contention some 80% of the way through the book, Brina IMMEDIATELY thinks the worst of Zane. She freaks out and will not hear his explanation. She has had no reason to doubt him. She just flies off the handle. I guess that is how most women might react, but it annoyed me. It also was not just a knee jerk reaction. This fit went on for days until someone else explained the situation. I can see why the author wrote it this way, but it made me dislike Brina. Making the reader dislike the heroine with only a few pages left to redeem her is not the best idea.
The story, of course, ends happily and everyone is pacified. Ms. Grey would never let us down in that regard. I encourage anyone looking to fill a pleasant weekend to grab this book. It will keep you entertained.
I can't let this go without my customary St. Martin's warning label. The title of this book is horrendous. I know St. Martin's doesn't usually let authors pick their titles. I am once again, screaming into the void. St. Martin's, if you read this, please, dear god, get a new title picker. Better yet, let authors name their books! This title is ridiculous. If I was not reasonably sure that this book would be better than the title, I never would have picked it up. The only reason I was willing to overlook the title, is because I knew it was a St. Martin's book, and therefore, the title was sure to be ridiculous. I also have a reasonable amount of trust in Amelia Grey. I consistently get a good evening's enjoyment out of a book of hers.
I found this book to be a good, quick read. I have read this author before and she did not disappoint. I will continue to read books from this author.

Cute enough. Didn’t sizzle. Characters were sweet.
This is Zane and Brina's story, the third and I believe the final in this series about widows whose husbands died in a sunken ship. I really liked that Brina loved her first husband which often isn't the case in Historicals. Zane was a good natured man who unexpectedly inherited a title and now has to change his lifestyle. Their courtship is touching as Brina struggles with her fears of loving and losing again and the guilt which goes with grief. I do think the reasons for her guilt was dragged on longer than it needed to be and when I found out it felt anti climactic. This was a well constructed story of two people finding their happy ever after.
This is the third book in the First Come Love series by Amelia Grey. I enjoyed the first book and loved this one as well. The story is about Mrs. Brina Feld, a very young widow who lost her husband at sea and who has resigned herself to never remarrying again but helping others. At the urging of her aunt, she attends a ball in Paris where she could let down her hair as she believes no one would ever know that she has given up her widow's garments for just one night of fun. Running from a drunken lord bent on having her, she seeks out a hiding place but comes face to face with a very handsome and virile man bound and gagged. It is not until she returns to London that the man she allowed the libery of kissing her that night was none other the Earl of Blacknight, a well-known rake of the ton.
Zane, the Earl of Blacknight does not want the title that has been pushed upon him due to the deaths of his line of successors. He'd rather live his life and enjoy everything that goes along with his bachelor status. Unfortunately, while in Paris trying to stop his cousin from making the biggest mistake of his life, he meets Brina. For his gratitude with her assisting him from his bondage, he leaves her with a kiss that she has never experienced by any man...not even her deceased husband. One fated night that they meet, they kiss, and they never forget the passion and heat that ran throughout every part of their intimate acquaintance.
Now being pushed by his family to carry on the responsibilities of the Earldom, Blacknight sees the enchanted Mrs. Feld dressed in her widow's clothing and knows that beyond the persona that has been painted of her by society, there lies a woman full of passion that he would love to awaken. How to do it? Place a bet in the books at White's that he will marry the infamous Mrs. Feld by the end of the Season of course. In addition, to take advantage of her prim and proper character, he solicits her tutelege in making him the respectable Earl to hold up that title in order to appease his family.
But wait, not liking the proposal and especially the bet layed at her doorstp, Brina and her friends devise a plan to ensure that Blacknight will never win the bet. What must he do to have her? Give up the most valuable things that a rake requires to retain his status (i.e. gambling, women, alchohol, and swearing) a very hard task to accomplish and one he knows he must do to have her as his wife and in his bed. Thus starts the sweetest attraction between the two where one definitely has no intentions of remarrying.
I truly enjoyed this third book by Ms. Grey and found Zane and Brina delightful in between their competitive banter. Although the book started off a bit slow, I did become drawn into the story and wanted to see how the end turned out. It was well-written and entertaining plot with the HEA I anticipated. I would love to listen to this one in the series on audiobook and recommend the read.

I really enjoyed this book. It reflects that Love can heal and change people. Zane is my favorite character, his a good person that a lot of people think he can’t change his roguish ways. Brina is afraid to love again and thinks she needs to atone for something. The book is well written and the characters are enjoyable, I highly recommend this book.
