This is the prettiest graphic novel I've ever read. It's a magical story about sprites, and the art style /feels/ magical. From the bright pastel and neon colors to the bubbly roundness of the figures, this is so so so cute. there really is no other word for it. It's just the cutest short graphic novel.
Pretty, short, and lighthearted, this was a fun little read in between working.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an advanced reader's copy.
This is a work of art. Stunningly beautiful. Adorable plot. Short and sweet. Absolutely lovely.
This graphic novel follows little garden fairies that used to grow plants and flowers in the past before the humans. A new fairy arrives and, instead of hiding from humans and watching the gardens die, the new fairy attempts to fix up the worst garden in the area and befriend a human gardener.
I would recommend this one if you need a smile or just want to enjoy some beautiful artwork in the form of a story.
Big thank you to @onipress for providing me with an e-arc of this graphic novel via @netgalley
This graphic novel by Joe Whitt and Rii Abrego is so magical and beautiful 💫🌿
We follow a young garden sprite, Wisteria, who's new to the neighbourhood as she rediscovers her magical touch with plants - which has long been lost due to the garden takeover by humans. She takes a trip to a local garden which has been neglected by the home owner, well... their young daughter, Elena, is try her best to make it nice but she doesn't have the gardening knowledge to grow anything. So Wisteria takes it upon herself to tap into her magic and make Elena happy and proud. What follows is a short tale about teamwork and friendship wrapped up in a wonderfully illustrated package.
I've never experienced such a whimsical, magical, spring vibe in a novel before and this one is perfect. My only issue is that it was too short! I would happily eat up an entire series in this world 😊 It's making me itch with the want to get back into my garden and work with my own sprits and spirits who hang out there 🧚♀️
Firstly, one of the most beautiful art styles I've ever seen! I love that it has both pastel colors and these darker hues on the characters that pop so greatly. The storyline itself should become a short film, it was so sweet and loving. I really enjoyed the time spent reading this.
This story was so adorable and magical and the artwork is everything you could dream of in a story of garden fairies!
Sprite and The Gardener was a wonderful story about spirits and humans living together in modern day. The pretty pastel illustrations were soothing. I enjoyed this graphic novel.
Thanks Netgalley and Oni press for the graphic novel.
I wanted to read this because of the cover being just super adorbs. But this is such a cute story too!! And so short too!! Seriously, can I have a sprite?!?! I’d take super good care of it!!! Really!!! Lol
This graphic novel is for the green thumb in all of us. Well, I guess it’s for those with black thumbs too. Cause I accidentally kill all plants that are in my possession. No good.
Anyway, the art is super sweet and I flipped back through to gaze lovingly at these sprites!!!! The plot is also cute and honestly, this would be a great book to read to kids. I think my boys will like it. Basically I recommend this to all gardeners out there along with those into cuteness. Cause there’s an ton in this book!!!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Oni Press for allowing me to read this for my honest and unbiased opinion!!!
It will also be posted to Amazon shortly.
The Sprite and the Gardener is a sweet little story about a new sprite named Wisteria who finds herself longing to go back to the good old days when sprites were the caretakers of life. She finds a struggling garden and uses her magic to help it thrive, but she has to keep her work secret both from the human gardener and the local sprites. The garden comes to mean much more than anyone ever thought it would as the project grows from a single sprite's work of pride to a community of skilled and caring individuals.
Overall, the graphics were cozy and the story line fun. The authors took great care to carefully name all the fairies and make it obvious who was speaking, a common problem in graphic novels that was deftly avoided without loss of continuity. With themes like peer pressure, independence, dependence and friendship, this is a lovely little book for middle-grade audiences.
This was super cute, I loved the story, I loved the world, and I really liked the art style as well. I loved the colorful sprites, their facial expressions were adorable, and I loved them so much. If you're looking for a cute graphic. novel, you need to check this book out! It's adorable! It was a nice solid. graphic novel!
I absolutely loved reading this graphic novel! The art style is filled with magic and energy. The colouring on each page pulled me into the story and brought the magic to a whole new level.
The story is about a faerie named Wisteria who starts to help a human tend to the garden when their mother is unable to take care of it. In the past faeries were in charge of taking care of all flowers, but it has been years since humans took over.
This comic had me smiling from beginning to end. I loved how the faeries bonded over learning something new and scary but were brave enough to try together. The human helped make them feel welcome and safe. This was an adorable story about learning, building communities, and growing friendships. I can’t wait to share this story with my coworkers. Looking forward to more work by this artist.
I've been a fan of Rii Abrego's art for years. Their art is so, so lovely and compliments the sweet, light story well. I adore this comic.
The Sprite and the Gardner follows a new sprite, Wisteria, that is having trouble fitting in with the other sprites. She wanders into an unkempt garden and decides to use her powers to help the garden thrive. However, she's having trouble managing it herself and must learn how to work with others and ask for help.
I really enjoyed this little story. The art was beautiful with good diversity. I personally feel like this for a younger YA audience because the story is pretty straightforward and nothing too unique or exciting. It is cute and the art is beautiful but this is not memorable to me.
Such a beautiful graphic novel. The colour palette and general cutesy vibe reminded me of The Tea Dragon Society series. Perhaps with slightly less depth, but I still thought it was a lovely, warm hug of a book. If only sprites would help me with my garden.
Thank you Netgalley and Oni Press for the advanced readers copy.
I don’t have much to say about this short graphic novel because it is quite simple: I loved it. The art is absolutely gorgeous and really adds to the cuteness of this book. I wish I was a sprite. Wisteria is just so pretty and sweet. The story was incredibly sweet too. It’s just one of those feel-good stories that make you smile through the whole read. It starts well and ends well. Moreover, it carries a kind moral and addresses the topic of finding your place in a new environment and finding your own power. So yeah, I just loved it. No negative point.
I absolutely recommend it. It’s good for all ages.

The Sprite and the Gardener is true floral sweetness, following a kind-hearted sprite named Wisteria who decides to help a budding gardener tend their struggling garden.
This is definitely an art-forward graphic novel with minimal text. The whimsical artwork is full of pastels and muted floral tones; reminiscent of Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies and old school anime & manga.
Reminds me of Thumbelina, The Secret World of Arrietty (2010), and FairyTale: A True Story (1997). Perfect for fans of Katie O'Neill.
This gentle story reminds us to take things one step at a time and the power of working together.

Sprite and the gardener is a graphic novel that hides a beautiful fairy tale inside. In the past it was the fairies who took care of the plants, but today it is the humans who do all the work, so the fairies no longer have anything to do.
Wisteria has just arrived in the village, and she finds it difficult to adapt to the group of fairies that live there, so she walks through the gardens until she finds one and starts taking care of it secretly.
In this graphic novel you can find a friendship story with a nice teamwork message. And the style of drawing is beautiful as is the range of colors used. It conveys softness, delicacy.
If you like fairy graphic novels, I recommend The Sprite and the gardener.
I initially wanted to read this graphic novel because it reminded me of The Tea Dragon Society, which I love. Both are published by Oni Press and both are soft fantasies for younger audiences about protecting our planet. But unfortunately, I didn't like this story as much as I hoped to.
The Sprite and the Gardener is about a sprite named Wisteria who helps a gardener grow her garden. Sprites used to take care of flowers and plants in the past, but now humans take care of everything and the sprites just exist, hanging out in the plants and staying hidden from humans. But Wisteria wants to take care of plants again, so she goes out and does it.
I thought the story was very wholesome and cute, but it just felt lacking. It needed to be a little bit longer and have more depth, in my opinion. I don't feel like this is going to leave a lasting impression on me like The Tea Dragon Society did, which is sad.
I also didn't really care for the coloring in this book. The drawings and outlines are nice, and the colors are soft and cheerful, but the coloring looks like someone used Paint fill to color the whole thing, every object being exactly one color without any shading or depth. It makes the art feel very . . . incomplete.
Overall, I thought The Sprite and the Gardener was just okay. It is a wholesome soft fantasy about how coming together can make the biggest difference as we can all support each other and accomplish something greater together than we can alone. I think this graphic novel would be enjoyed best by younger children as that is a good moral to teach them, but it leaves older audiences wanting more from the story, both in terms of the plot and the artwork.
This story is about spirits that were use to take care of the nature before humans took this responsibility for themselves and they don't have to do this job anymore. We have this new spirit that is coming to a new garden and end up meeting a woman that, although she really likes plants, is really bad at gardening.
The first thing I have to say about this is that the art is lovely, such a well done job. The way that they make the spirits brings a magical taste for the history, because they are so cute and they don't exactly remember flowers, but they feel like flowers. I really loved the art job.
Another thing to say is how much I liked the idea that this book brings, the idea of a strong teamwork, and how working together can make your weakness become strength. I can't say much about this book without spilling out some spoilers, so I won't, but believe me, this is the cutest thing ever!
Thanks to NetGally for the opportunity of reading such a lovely comic!
Sprite and the Gardener is an adorably magical graphic novel!
This book has sprites, magic, and beautiful art! Every detail was aesthetically pleasing, and I thoroughly enjoyed examining every page.
It was a simple and quick read with cute characters.
I think this concept has tons of potential! I would have loved if the characters and plot were developed a little more.
Overall, I would recommend this book as a fluffy, cute, read!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review!
Sprite and the Gardener is an enchanting and whimsical graphic novel perfect for kids to adults. The story followed the titular sprite as she helps a female gardener grow plants in her garden. I got LGBTQ-friendly vibes from this story, although nothing was stated outright. At first, I was worried that the story would take a darker turn a la The Little Mermaid, but I'm happy to say that this is a cute story through and through. There are no villains, and there is a happily ever after (HEA) at the end. This cute story is perfect for fans of Sailor Moon and Studio Ghibli, particularly The Secret World of Arrietty. In addition, the artwork in this graphic novel is beautiful. Look at the sprite's hair on the stunning cover!. The flowers and colors in the graphic novel were as beautiful as any art nouveau painting. I was also impressed by the artist's detailed facial expressions The bored look on a certain sprite's face was integral to her personality. I felt like I already knew her, even though she barely had any lines. Overall, if you're looking for a cute and fun story with beautiful art, look no further!
