Although this is the seventh book in the Fox and O'Hare series this is the first book I have read in the series. I enjoyed the story, it was a quick read with action from the beginning to the end.
I love Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series and I am looking forward to adding the Fox and O'Hare series to my reading list. Now to read books 1 through 6.
I read this one sitting much into the wee hours of the morning - much to my dismay as I sit here falling asleep at my desk. It was that good.
But.... it also wasn't. My attention was gripped, but I rolled my eyes at the implausibility of many of the scenes. The plotting was fast paced, but there wasn't as much cheeky humour or banter as I had hoped. It did make me want to head to Europe and read all the Fox and O'Hara titles I've missed. (Quite a few but I also didn't feel like I was missing something in the current plot because of this oversight.) I did think it could play out as a good action movie and I wanted to know "what next..." but also found it slightly formulaic and unbelievable.
4 stars... for entertainment value but perhaps not as a literary masterpiece. This is definitely what I consider a consumer-oriented read - quick and fun, but not necessarily impactful.
I received a complimentary copy of this title via NetGalley from the publisher. Opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I’ve read all of the Stephanie Plum books, and although this book wasn’t as funny as the Plum books, it was more thrilling and suspenseful. I very much enjoyed it!!
“The Bounty” by Janet Evanovich is the newest addition to her Kate O’Hare and Nick Fox series. For those of you (like me) who are/were unaware of this series, O’Hare is an FBI agent who is paired with the handsome ex-con Fox both professionally and personally.
The bounty is bars of gold that are hidden treasure from Nazi Germany. In order to try and locate one of the biggest treasures in the world, our couple must traverse different locations across Europe while enlisting the help of their respective fathers, a German Literature scholar and pieces of the treasure “map” that are hidden in various tourist spots. In order to start their trek, they must retrieve a small piece of paper from the very top of the Eiffel Tower, during which they encounter a group of individuals who are looking for the very same treasure but for far more personal gain.
Full disclosure that I am a fan of thrillers, That said, I rarely wish a book would become a movie as I’m reading it, but The Bounty had me doing just that. I think the casting would be intriguing, the stunts eyeopening and in particular the last few stops along the search mindblowing to see.
Evanovich sprinkles in just the right amount of humour to season the plot, and the pace in which she writes makes for a perfect weekend read. Highly recommend you pick this up.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for providing a copy for review,
This has got to be Janet Evanovich’s best book yet.
I just finished reading, my adrenaline is pumping, and my mind is blown. The writing is superb as always, but this storyline is next level. I can’t recommend this book highly enough.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a free copy for review.
This book was n awesome read. I just love anything Stephanie Evonovich writes. I highly recommend this book to all Stephanie lovers.
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. The Bounty by Janet Evanovich and Steve Hamilton is the seventh book in their fast paced Fox and O’Hare series. You could read it as a stand-alone. Kate O’Hare and Nick Fox are on the run searching for Nazi Gold in order to save the world from The Brotherhood a white supremacist group planning on taking over where the Nazi’s left off. Joining forces with both Kate and Nick’s fathers this is an edge of your seat race to find the maps and solve the puzzle before the bad guys catch up with them. With the sparkling banter and physical comedy that Janet Evanovich is known for this is a nice little escape read that will keep you reading long past your bedtime.

Everyone thinks Nick is a con man and thief and Kate, an FBI agent, is trying to catch him. But in reality, Nick had been caught and is now secretly working with Kate and the FBI. Only a handful of people are aware of this.
There is going to be a robbery at the Vatican and Kate and Nick are dispatched to roam to be part of the team to stop it. Imagine their surprise when the robber doesn't seem what they thought he was going to steal AND it turns out to be Nick's father, Quentin. Nick protects his father and in turn, Kate protects Nick. It seems that Quentin was stealing part of a map that would lead to $30 million dollars in old Nazi gold. There are different pieces of the map which takes Kate, Nick, Quentin, Jake (Kate's father) and a professor all over Europe to find them because they land in the wrong hands, a group called the Brotherhood.
This is the seventh in the Fox and O'Hare series ... I've them read all and liked them but I didn't like this one. It was very far-fetched and had Nick climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower, Kate climbing to the top of a castle, Nick and Quentin searching a polar bear exhibit, the team climbing a rugged mountain and more ... with hardly a scratch. All the while fighting off the bad guys. I've liked Kate and Nick and their interactions and banters in the past but in this book there weren't many. It was more action-packed and cold, perhaps due to the change in the second writer. I hope the next one in the series is better.
Thanks Netgalley for an advance copy. What a fun intensive read! It really reminded me of "catch if you can" The characters were great, the story was a fun global adventure. The adventures of Kate and Nick get better novel after novel!
As this series continues the plots, action and stunts are just too silly to believe and that is a shame because the characters are fun, the dialogue is is great but the action is just so out there and the story in this case a bit convoluted.
Beyond excited for the gift of reviewing one of the year’s most anticipated books, “The Bounty.” What a treat; a rare teaming of two such prolific writers. Janet Evanovich has written 26 #1 New York Times bestsellers and sold nearly 100 million copies and Steve Hamilton is author of two NY Times notable books of the year and has either won or been nominated for every other major award in crime fiction. “The Bounty,” is book 7 in the Fox and O’Hare series and will be published on March 23, 2021. This collaboration is outstanding; therefore, it’s not surprising that there’s a Fox and O’Hare TV show in the works. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one on the silver screen one day.
Evanovich debuted the Fox and O’Hare series (think Flemming’s 007 series) in 2013 featuring the unlikely partnership of FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare and international thief and conman Nick Fox. In this novel, both Kate and Nick enlist the help of their fathers as they race across Europe to find the biggest treasure of all time; a lost train loaded with $30 billion in Nazi gold, hidden in a labyrinthine maze and untouched for over three quarters of a century!
My friend introduced me to Evanovich’s work over ten years ago, and I’ve caught up to read all her novels. Evanovich seems to get my sense of humour; her’s is not only sarcastic, but it’s well timed. There’s always just enough chemistry between Kate and Nick to balance out the full throttle action. I love to travel and Evanovich appealed to my sense of adventure with a hair-raising tour of major European cities. It was a perfect armchair travel in pandemic times. Evanovich’s son, Peter, an author in his own right, is to thank for the plot. Like me, he is interested in history and imagined a fantastic pairing with his mother’s series. Lee Goldberg has co-authored the previous 6 novels in this series, but I understand that he wasn’t available to co-author #7 and Evanovich reached out to Steve Hamilton. As I suspected, it’s impossible to tell who wrote which parts as the story blended so well. I wouldn’t expect anything different from two prominent, gifted and experienced authors with world class skills.
The concept of an abandoned train car filled with 300 tons of gold would pique anyone’s interest. I’ve followed stories of countless attempts to recover the ‘Nazi Gold Train,’ to no avail. Is it still out there? Is it a myth? Evanovich explores this possibility in a perfectly executed adventure mystery worthy of every accolade.
Thank you to Janet Evanovich, Atria Books and NetGalley for the supreme privilege of reading this advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was a different type of adventure than the rest of this series. I loved the new take it’s a cross of Indiana Jones with National Treasure. Amazing
I enjoyed reading this book. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. I have read other books by this author and liked them too. I look forward to her books coming out, for sure.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I read a number of other books by Janet Evanovich over years in her Stephanie Plumb series which were easy fun reads that were quick to get through.
I expected this would be similar but I was actually surprised this was more suspenseful and thrilling. It had a bit less humour with some interesting travel locations. Since we are in lockdown is nice to read about different places.
I enjoyed this book and it exceeded my expectations.
FBI agent Kate and her "it's complicated" partner Nick are racing against some very bad, well connected people in hopes of reaching lost treasure before they do. This is a fast moving story, with bits of humor sprinkled throughout.
This is the first book in this series I have read. That said, I didn't feel at all lost with the stories. I do feel that had I known more of the backstory I would have been able to appreciate the characters more.
Overall the story was well written. Everytime I thought I had it figured out, something would change and I would realize I was wrong. The action was fast paced and engaging. The characters were well developed. I am going to be going back and reading the first 6 books as soon as I get the chance.
Fans of Janet Evanovich may miss some of her trademark steamy scenes, but this book has everything else. Because of those missing scenes, I would feel comfortable letting people 12 and up (depending on reading ability) read this book.
