4.5 I finally got around to reading this book after having it on my TBR for years. Why did I wait? The touching story of Isabelle and Dorrie's road trip is beautiful. Highly recommend it for everyone.
Normally I'm not a huge fan of southern women's fiction, but the juxtaposition of Isabelle's story of a forbidden interracial relationship from 1939 and Dorrie's present day family challenges as well as her need to learn to trust in a new relationship drew me in. A satisfying read.
It was a good read, think the style of DRIVING MISS DAISY. An elderly white woman asks her black hair dresser to driver her to a funeral, and as they go their life stories are revealed.
Calling Me Home is a not-t0-be-missed tear jerker that I suspect many die-hard readers will put into their annual 'must read again' list. Isabelle and Dorrie's story will stay with you long after you finish the book. The only reason you won't be handing it off to friends to read immediately is because you can't stand the thought of someone else having it when you want to re-read it. I look forward to more by this author!
