Not Without My Sister by Marion Kummerow is a must read for any lover of historical fiction set during WWII. Ms Kummerow is a new author to me, and I was most pleasantly surprised at how emotionally engaged I became in the plight of the Epstein sisters. Beautifully emotive, and a story that will long linger in the conscience, this is one to add to your TBR immediately.

It is 1944 and Rachel and Mindel Epstein are taken from their family farm and transferred to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. It is an horrific time for the sisters, who have been taken from their parents and separated from their two brothers, but there is mercy in the fact that they are together. Until seventeen year old Rachel is taken to a work camp, tearing her away from sweet four year old Mindel, who has always relied upon her older sister to take care of her. What follows is a harrowing story of survival, and two sisters whose love for each other will keep the light of hope alive in the very darkest of times. Highly recommended. 4.5 stars
