In this second book of the series, Nikki Hunt’s head is filled again with a bunch of questions she has to find answers to. Together with her team and the sheriff’s team they have to figure out what was going on. Are they dealing with a double homicide? A homicide and a suicide? An accident and a homicide or an accident and a suicide?
And what about the missing boy? Is there a link between the cases? Is he dead or will they find him alive?
The green eyed monster plays a big role in this story. I understand it’s hard when you were treated differently than you sibling, but how far are you prepared to go to prove your point? Aren’t you forgetting who you are hurting and exposing to danger by acting the way you do?
The police does not have a lot of time to take a breather, because as usual the clock is ticking. Nikki’s private life has to play second fiddle for a while. The only person she really takes some time off for is her daughter, but she knows she has to make some decisions in order to move forward and that’s what she does as soon as the bad guys are locked up and the key is thrown away.
A very good book that kept me guessing the whole time. 5 stars

A slow burn FBI thriller that as the story progresses unravels more shocking finds and a crazy conclusion.

Special Agent Nikki Hunt who has been helping the town of Stillwater, Minnesota try and locate a missing boy is shocked when not only his body is found frozen by a lake but also that of his mother who was the FBI's prime suspect in his abduction. The ME's report shows this leans more to homicide than suicide.

The deeper Nikki and her team dig into Dana's life more questions and suspects arise. While they are investigation that thorn in Nikki's side journalist Caitlin Newport come to her to report another child is missing and she thinks its tied to the double murder.

Now Nikki is not only in a race to find our who murder a mother and her child but also look into the other missing boy which end up blowing the whole case wide open.

I really enjoyed this second book in the series. Nikki is a fascinating character and I cant wait to see what's next.

This is a police procedural, and like in real police work, the pace isn't always very fast. But the last half actually has a very good pace and some action as well. Excellent storytelling and characters make this book very entertaining.

This is the second book in the Nikki Hunt series. Nikki is called to the crime scene with two victims:Kellan, a boy she was searching for the past few days, and his mother Dana. Initially everything suggests that Dana killed her son and then took her own life. But very early on Nikki and her team find evidence suggesting that Dana was actually murdered. To complicate matters, a reporter with whom Nikki has a complicated relationship, Caitlin, believes that another boy was taken on the same day as Kellan and that the two cases are somehow connected.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I expected to at least enjoy the second one. But I ended up loving it. This was such a good book. I will say though that the mystery itself wasn't very complicated and I figured out the whodunit quite early on. But it didn't matter because I loved the journey so much. I pitied Dana so much, her life was a struggle and I just wanted to reach into the book and give her a hug. Nikki is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. She is smart and caring, but also has a cool had on her shoulders and is able to think clearly even in dire situations.
The romance had some development and I want to see where it goes next.
All in all I really loved this and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Nikki is called upon when two bodies are found in a open grave as it turns out to be Kellan and his mother Dana. Nikki has been looking for Kellan who been missing for two weeks and she suspect his mother and when crime looks like she kill her son and then herself Nikki sees she was victim as well.

As she investigate their deaths when reporter Caitlin tells her another child gone missing and the case are link she realize the killer seems to target people in a custody battle but she reluctant to work with Caitlin after everything that happen between.

As she deals with this case her relationship with Rory is becoming more but she still feels guilty from putting his brother in jail for her parents murder only to learn he was innocent although Mark doesn’t hold grudge and understand it wasn’t her fault his parents are another story.

This was fast paced thriller. I really enjoy following Nikki as she investigate I could have done without the romance part of the story but other then that good read.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
