Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me a free advanced copy of this book to read and review.
Gloria Naylor is someone who I wish I had found much sooner. This is my second work of hers. I read Mama Day earlier this year. While that is seen as her masterpiece, this debut work spoke to me on a deeper level. In a page or less you are sucked into a character and care deeply for even the most flawed people. As each character unfolds, they intertwine with the others who live in the enclave of slums that is Brewster Place. Naylor was intersectional before the term existed (I *think*) and does it seamlessly. If you've never experienced this classic author, grab this book. Your heart will go through the wringer in many ways; it is not sunshine and roses in Brewster Place. Roaches and loss figure much more prominently.
A gorgeous new edition of a spectacular classic. I’m overjoyed to see this title rereleased for new audiences. Loved it!
I absolutely love this mini series and couldn’t wait to read the book. I’m so happy this is being re-published. This collective stories of African-American women living within a community is so important and rich in story telling. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
